Chapter 2 - Shelter for now

Eleven limped away in hopes to find some much-needed shelter. She had no clue where she was going, who was going to find her, or what she was going to eat.

All she knew was that she needed to get to safety before papa and his men found her.

She missed Mike and her other friends, she just wanted to know they were safe, eleven decided going to Mike's house was not a good option mainly because the bad men knew she was previously hiding there.

Her leg was throbbing in pain, but she couldn't stop and risked getting captured again.

Once she found somewhere to stay for the night, she could at least somewhat fix herself up as much as possible.

There weren't any houses or cars in sight which she took as a good sign, it wouldn't end well if someone found her and turned her in.

She tried to contain her tears as she swiftly limped away from the woods.

"Any sign of her?" One of the guards asked panting a little from running.

"Well," one of the guards started spinning around shaping his hands in the form of a binocular.

"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK?" He shouted sarcastically looking back at him.

"We can't just go back empty-handed dumbass keep searching, she couldn't have gone far." The guard said standing up.

"No this is obviously a lost cause; don't you think you're underestimating her I mean this is a fucking psychic child were dealing with here." One of the guards commented.

"I don't see any point in this search. All of our dogs are dead, meaning there's no way we could possibly have any chance of even knowing which direction she went in."

"What the hell do you think this is a daycare?" the guard said sarcastically, attempting to make a joke.

"No actually this is our JOB, and you aren't doing anything helpful by making shitty jokes for no reason. Brenner sent us out here for a reason we can't just stop searching." He yelled trying to get his point across.

"HEY, ENOUGH BICKERING" another guard yelled. "We aren't getting anywhere with useless fighting, get yourselves together. She's a child, she couldn't have gone far." The guard spoke.

"Spread-out, we aren't going back empty handed." The guards began separating, aiming their flashlights in different directions.

Brenners paced around in a circle at the school. "We were so close to taking her back and you all BLEW IT!" Brenner yelled at some of his agents.

"Sir we are doing everything in our power to find her, we have some of our best soldiers out there looking for her, believe me they won't come back empty handed." One of Brenner's agents reassured him.

"They better not or else I'm firing every last one of them" Brenner scoffed walking away.

About an hour later the guards returned empty handed without the dogs, the girl or any news.

Eleven panted and whimpered glancing down at her leg. She saw a wooded area that looked secure enough, it would keep her safe and protected until she was ready to go somewhere else.

She limped her way over towards the woods out of breath from all the running and walking.

Looking around the area she didn't see anything really, just a couple of squirrels which startled her at first.

Eleven wanted to get deeper into the woods just to make sure the bad men wouldn't find her very fast if they did begin searching the area.

Eleven may not be the smartest person but she was educated enough to know that bad men weren't stupid.

Once she got to a good spot near a tree, she sat back against it groaning in pain from her wound.

She closed her eyes resting her back against the tree for a couple minutes before she had to deal with her injuries.

She looked down at her leg sliding her sock down a little so she could fully see how big the injury was.

She gasped as pain struck her; she couldn't remember the last time she was ever injured this badly.

She began to take off her shoe and sock, tying it against the bite. She sobbed at the pain just wanting it to end.

All of a sudden, she felt a couple raindrops hit her scalp, she didn't exactly understand how water fell from the sky, in her eyes water was usually in the cup that papa would serve her every morning.

Being in the forest while it rained reminded her of Mike when he and the others found her in the woods and took care of her.

It was the first time anyone had ever shown her real love and affection. It was nice and she missed them, she missed their generosity, kindness, and love.

She began to uncontrollably cry at the memories of them. They didn't know each other for very long but she cherished every minute she spent with them.

Eleven grew very attached to Mike and she missed him. She decided it was for the best and that her being away from him kept him, his family and friends safe.

She snuggled into the grass shutting her eyes as she began to drift off to sleep as it poured down rain.

She would be safe… at least for now, but that was enough for her.

Thischapter is a bit short, but I think it is a perfect place to end for now. This is my first fanfiction so let me know what you guys think!
