Hermione eyes opened and she shot up out of bed the sound of someone pounding on wood woke her from her deep sleep, fearing it was Lucius again Hermione snatched up the white robe by the door and made a mad dash downstairs. The tile floor making her stumble she cursed under her breath and slowed down a touch there was no point in her injuring herself it wouldn't do anyone any good if she got hurt.
Lightly jogging down the stairs she realized it was someone knocking at the door coming to a complete stop Hermione debated on whether she should answer the door, but this wasn't her house. I might as well go wake Lucius up. With her mind set she made her way to his room. The portraits grumbled as she walked past them, she was seriously thinking of complaining to Lucius, but Hermione didn't want to cause a giant uproar.
Stopping in front of the oak door Hermione took a deep breath and raised her shaking hand to the wood and gave some gentle taps of the woods surface. Everything was quiet for a second as she held her breath waiting for Lucius to come to, she figured it would take a while considering he'd been up most of the night with his strange ramblings and yelling at headstones. Shaking the thoughts away for now Hermione knocked a little louder.
Suddenly the oak door swung open to revel Lucius standing in the doorway his eyes half open with dark circles underneath. He reached up with his hand and rubbed his face. Blinking a few times, he seemed to waken a little.
"What are you doing?" Lucius asked mid yawn.
Before Hermione could speak though his sliver eyes widened and began frantically looking her up and down.
"Is the baby okay?"
She couldn't help the small smile that creeped on her face she was happy he asked and didn't immediately brush her off. Shaking head Hermione said, "We're fine but there someone at the door."
Furrowing his brow Lucius asked, "Why didn't you just answer the door?"
Scoffing she retorted, "Maybe because this isn't my house."
Lifting his hands in the air as if surrendering Lucius said, "Your right this is my house I'll answer the door."
Moving past her Hermione quickly followed the blonde but the familiar voice from a certain Malfoy relative made them both stop the sounds of the knocking were audible now for Lucius to hear but he was staring daggers at his ancestor.
"I'll deal with you later." The sound of Lucius threat reminded her of the old Lucius it sent a shiver down her spine, but she wasn't sure if she liked that tone of voice coming from him or not.
Following him down the stairs Hermione hoped it wasn't anyone that she knew the last thing she needed was rumors swirling around that she was housed up with a former Death Eater I mean it was true, but it most certainly would be taken out of context.
Lucius stepped toward the door and reached for the brass handle but suddenly turned his head to face her and pointed toward her "Get your wand out just in case."
Wait what why would I need my wand? Hermione thoughts ran rampant through her mind wondering why she needed her wand the most dangerous Death Eaters had been locked up, but she didn't want to argue so she reached in her pocket and retrieved her wand the sound of her heart pounding in her chest. Lucius satisfied to see her defended turned the knob and swung open the door.
"Ah good I'm glad you answered the door." The male voice Hermione recognized as Harry made her quickly put her wand away.
Rolling his eyes, the blonde was clearly not Impressed with being woken up even if it was by the young man who had saved them all from Voldemort. Stepping around Lucius Hermione wrapped her arms around her friend the sound of footsteps walking away told her Lucius decided to give them some privacy which she appreciated.
"What are you doing here?" Her curiosity getting the better of her.
Pulling away Harry just shrugged and said, "I was just checking up on you it's not everyday you let your best mate stay with a former Death Eater."
Moving a stray hair behind her ear Hermione thanked him for being concerned. "Why didn't you just send a Patronus I would have answered you?"
Before Harry could answer the question there was a loud crash heard from the dining room fearing Lucius had fallen again Hermione rushed into the room her friend right behind her. Entering the room there was Lucius on the floor as a masked intruder with a hood standing above him eyes locked on the former Death Eater not even giving her or Harry a second glance. Quickly Harry and Hermione removed their wands and almost in sync together they sent a flurry of spells at the stranger who quickly dodged and weaved their spells. The masked figure again raised his wand toward Lucius, but this time Hermione was able to hit him with a stunner causing him to fly backwards hitting the hardwood floor. Quickly recovering the masked intruder apparated away.
Taking a deep breath Hermione ran over and knelt beside Lucius looking him over she didn't see any marks or anything but his eyes where closed and he was taking deep breaths. She couldn't imagine what was going through his head especially since he no longer allowed a wand and if her and Harry hadn't been here it no doubt would have ended differently.
"Any idea who that could have been?'
Hermione shook her head the person kept their face hidden.
"No but when I do their going to pay, but until then I suggest you get somewhere safe and don't worry, I'll cover whatever it may cost." Lucius had opened his eyes and was now coming to a stand. Hermione stood up as well.
Dumbfounded she retorted "How are you going to do anything you don't have a wand." She felt a sick feeling rise in her stomach. Could she really be starting to care for this man or maybe it was just she didn't want to raise a kid on her own.
"Oh, don't be ridiculous Ms. Granger when the Ministry searched my house, they didn't find everything, and I forgot to relay the information to them." His lips pulled up into a smirk she looked away because of course he had a backup plan he was a Malfoy after all.
"I don't know." She felt conflicted on one hand she didn't want to leave him by himself but on the other hand she was pregnant.
"Hermione I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Lucius you really shouldn't stay here." Nodding Hermione knew they were both right she just wished she could find a better argument so she could stay she really didn't want to be alone or leave Lucius he might fall and break his neck but without a valid reason Hermione just nodded.
