"Deadlines are approaching quickly… how is it he hasn't made a decision yet?!" Jane asked her wife.

"He's more of a Rizzoli than you think, love."

Jane glared at her wife.

"Come on Jane, I was joking. He got full scholarship offers to the best schools in the country; he wants to explore his options until he's sure he's made the right decision," Maura reasoned.

"BCU or Harvard! How difficult is that?" Jane said, exasperated.

"You are just saying that because you want him to stay here at home. As much as I'd love for Leo to stay with us, he's old enough to handle himself Jane. If the best choice for him is at a different school, as much as it would hurt me, I'd support it."

"Both Harvard AND BCU have excellent medical school programs. I should know, I've spent weeks reading through every brochure that comes through here. Besides, look at you! YOU went to BCU and you're perfect!"

Maura kissed her wife. "Thank you baby."

Jane looked forlorn and sighed. Maura came up to her and hugged her from behind, kissing her once again.

"Jane, you just have to understand; it's not up to us anymore. Leo isn't a little kid anymore. He's 20 years old, Jane. He needs to make his own decisions. We raised him well; you have to trust that he's going to make the right choice."

Tears threatened to spill. "I know, Maur. He's a good kid… he'll make the right choice…"

The two women hugged themselves as they thought of their son and reminisced about his younger years.

Just then, the front door opened as Leo stepped inside. The young Rizzoli-Isles man was every bit the handsome charmer he could've been. That's another thing that worried Jane… he was handsome, athletic and intelligent enough to have any girl he wanted… she knew it was silly of her but didn't want her son to even consider dating seriously.

"Hi mom, ma; what are you two up to?" he asked as he took turns kissing his mothers hello.

"We're just talking about your medical school options, son." Maura replied. "Have you given it any more thought? You know the deadline for half the acceptances is getting very close."

"I know mom; and I have thought about it. I have come to a decision, and I hope that you and ma are able to support it."

"Oh yeah? What is it bud, what'd you pick?" Jane asked, anxious to know.

"It was very difficult for me to come to a decision. After traveling to these schools and getting to know more about their programs, well, some of them were really enticing."

Both Maura and Jane listened carefully.

"But in the end, I've decided that I want to stay here, in Boston. I'm choosing BCU, just like mom."

"YES!" Jane shouted as she ran up to her son and hugged him with all her might. "I knew you were staying here! My baby!"

"Ma, come on, you're starting to sound like nonna," Leo joked.

"I'm sorry, I can't help it; I didn't want you to go."

"Well, that's the thing. I'm staying in town, but there's something else."

Jane instantly calmed and a worried look came over her face.

"I'm staying in town, but I want to live on campus."

Jane was about to protest when Maura stepped in.

"That sounds very reasonable, Leo." She turned to look at her wife with a knowing look. "You're old enough to make such a request. I think your ma and I should be more than happy that you've even decided to stay here in the first place when you could've gone across the country and away from us."

"Nah, you two aren't that bad," Leo said with a chuckle. "I just want to be able to really experience college life."

"I agree with you, and deep down, I know your ma does too," Maura stated. She looked over at Jane, who simply nodded, unable to do anything else. "I don't however, condone living in a dorm. I'm all for you having the college life experience son, I am. But perhaps we can get you an apartment? Med school is going to require a lot of time and concentration. I know you're smart but there are things that just take time. A lot of the courses you're going to be taking are going to require a lot of studying and I just don't think you'll be able to get the study environment you're used to by living in the dorm. Your mother and I would be more than happy to go apartment hunting with you, wouldn't we, Jane?"

Jane was thinking about everything Maura was saying as she went and really couldn't argue with her. "We'd love to," she finally said. "However, I'm sure your mom will agree with me that with an apartment come certain responsibilities."

"You two would really get me an apartment?" Leo asked incredulously.

"Of course we would bud. Your whole life you've shown us just how responsible and mature you are. There is no reason whatsoever why your mom and I wouldn't be able to trust you with an apartment. Just as long as you stick to the responsibilities and don't forget about your old moms and come visit every once in a while, that's all we ask."

"Of course I couldn't forget about you two! Thank you both so much! This is so exciting! I'm going to go upstairs; I have to reply to accept the position BCU is holding for me. Thank you mom, ma!" Leo hugged and kissed both his mothers before excitedly leaving the living room and making his way up to his room.

Jane looked like she was about to cry.

"What happened to our little boy, Maur?" she asked, sobbing.

"He grew up, love. And what a young man he turned out to be. We did a good job with our son."

Jane nodded and leaned into her wife's embrace. "We did amore, we did."
