Ch 4~ Cage Fight
"Ladies first," Sportsmaster jeered.
"Gladly," Artemis sneered back at her archer sheathed her arrow and slung her bow over her back. She didn't need a weapon- the only way to defeat her father was in hand-to-hand combat.
Artemis made a lunge, swinging with her right fist, then left. Sportsmaster blocked the punches easily. She spun and lashed out with her foot, but the villain caught her leg. He turned, using the momentum to launch Artemis directly at Kid Flash. Wally ran forward and caught the archer, skidding backwards but managing to stay on his feet.
Sportsmaster started towards them, reaching over his back and pulling out a wicked-looking mace. Switching fighting tactics, Artemis grabbed her bow, then reached over her back and took out three explosive arrows. As Sportsmaster broke into a run, Artemis fired, once to his right, then left, then right again. The shockwaves were enough to throw off Sportsmaster's balance for a moment, and a moment was all Wally needed.
The speedster rushed forward, delivering an uppercut to the villain's chin. The hockey mask flew off, clattering as it hit the concrete. Kid Flash had milliseconds to react as Sportsmaster's mace arced towards him. He ducked, one of the gleaming points grazing his cheek before the weapon collided with a cement column, the spikes causing it lodge into the concrete.
Sportsmaster left the mace stuck in the wall and lunged for Wally, striking the hero with in the stomach with his fist. Wally doubled over, and Sportsmaster clasped his hands together above the speedster's head, ready to bring them down with full force, when a blunt arrow slammed into his left shoulder.
Wally rolled away, springing to his feet as Artemis rushed in to attack. She swung her bow, aiming straight for her father's face. Sportsmaster dodged, then spun and lashed out with a vicious kick that connected with Artemis's head.
"Artemis!" Wally yelled as she crashed to the floor, lying still where she hit the concrete.
Kid Flash sprinted at full speed towards Sportsmaster. While Artemis's father may have been a master at close-range combat, Wally had unbeatable speed. The young hero was able to zip around his larger opponent, finding and striking all the gaps in the villain's armor.
After a dozen hits, the villain lashed out, knocking Kid Flash back. He unhooked a short black stick from his belt. Before Wally had time to make a snide remark about the wimpy weapon, the metal rod tripled in length, and the once blunt ends were now wickedly pointed. A javelin.
Kid Flash clenched his jaw and rushed for the villain once more, but this time, he could only get so close without being in serious risk of impalement.
"What's the matter? Nervous for your girlfriend?" Sportsmaster taunted.
Wally glanced- only for a brief moment- over at Artemis, giving Sportsmaster enough time to launch an attack. Kid Flash barely managed to block the blows, stumbling back.
"Starting to lose it kid?" The villain jeered.
Kid Flash clenched his fist and zipped around the villain, lunging to attack him from behind. Sportsmaster grinned, predicting the hero's move. He thrust the javelin backwards, hearing the kid's gasp of surprise and pain.
The speedster felt a searing pain streak across his side. He stumbled back, his hand covering a spot just below his ribs where the javelin had punctured his uniform. Wally pulled his hand away, staring at the stripe of crimson stained his palm.
"You're lucky- that was just a scratch." Wally looked up to see a fist flying at his face. It connected with the speedsters left jaw, sending him sprawling to the ground. Before the hero had time to shake the stars out of his vision, he felt himself being hauled to his feet and slammed back first into a wall.
Sportsmaster brought himself face to face with the young hero, grinning wickedly. Wally felt a sharp tip at his throat. His heart began to pound in his ears. Was this it? Kid Flash looked past Sportsmaster's unmasked face, his gaze falling on where Artemis lay. The tip dug into his skin, causing warm blood to drip down the young hero's neck.
Sportsmaster saw the fear in Wally's emerald eyes. He let out a slow laugh.
"Relax kid, I ain't finished with you… yet." With that, the villain flung Kid Flash across the floor. Wally let out a cry of pain when his already battered body met the unforgiving concrete. The young hero rolled over to see Artemis only a few feet away, lying on the ground with her back towards him.
"Artemis…" He reached out to grab her shoulder when a heavy boot dropped down, crushing his wrist.
Kid Flash let out a shout, but was soon silenced by a knee pressing into his stomach.
"Lights out," the dark figure above him said in a rough voice, raising a fist. Wally heard a brief laugh before everything went silent.

Robin started tracking Wally and Artemis's signals after he heard the gunshots over his communicator. The Boy Wonder had donned his usual black mask, but he was still wearing his tuxedo. Even though he was wearing his uniform under his formalwear, precious seconds would be wasted if he attempted to change, and there was no time to spare- a few moments ago, their signals had gone dark.
Luckily, Robin was only a few blocks away from their location when his teammates dropped off the grid. He came to an old, unused warehouse with the door thrown wide open. Before entering, Robin rolled up his sleeve, using his gauntlet to scan the room for heat signatures. It was empty. Still taking precautions, the Boy Wonder slipped into the room, keeping to the edge wall. He didn't have to look hard for clues. Robin could see craters in the floor from small explosions, no doubt Artemis's special arrows. He looked over to a concrete pillar that had a sizable chunk taken out of it. Robin ran his nimble fingers along three gashes in the cement column.
The heroes eyes widened in shock. Robin knew there was a possibility, but he hadn't expected it to happen so soon.
"I have to alert The League," Robin said to himself. But before he could contact anyone, Dick heard a beeping sound as dozens of blinking red lights illuminated the warehouse. Robin barely had time to think before a violent blast of fire consumed the building.
AN: Yep, the end of one cliffhanger, but the start of a new one! And lease remember, I'm way more motivated to add chapters if you tell me you want them!
