Webby was angry at herself. As soon as she realized she was stuck in her mindscape for the time being, she quickly started to understand what circumstances had led to this happening.
She got tricked- all because she got too hooked up to something she really wanted to prove herself capable of. It was not the first time something like this happened, but, even then, it was important to her to say this wasn't like the rest as... Webby wanted to catch up with the rest. She wasn't pushing it, but she was too jumpy about it.
In her mind, she wasn't ashamed of admitting it, but rather ashamed of feeling it. It wasn't something her granny would be disappointed to hear, but it was difficult to let go as a topic. In this darkness of a mindscape as she sought isolation for the time being, Webby started to slowly spin upside down, and as she noticed the odd gravity, unconsciously thought of space.
The darkness turned into a nebulous space filled with numerous distant stars and planets. The sun was there too, but while this all was something she already experienced through meditation... nothing had prepared her to actually 'feel' the sun's warmth or the cold of distant space from any heat-generating stellar body.
The female duck looked around, beak opening in awe as she numbly gauged the sight offered by her... Mindscape? At this point, the seed of doubt had spread. Maybe it was an illusion from Jack Frost, but that didn't seem to make much sense.
Looking back at the event, her remembrance of this villain is quite scarce but still enough any potential real power. The cricket was, after all, not truly a 'Scrooge-centered' enemy. Brother to the Ghost of Christmas Past, Jack had been vilified after trying and failing to first get his brother's powers, then Santa's- it was in the latter occasion that Jack was truly set to beat Scrooge, as it had been the duck to deal him with a defeat.
As time marched onwards, the small-time villain never rose back to attention beyond Scrooge mentioning him twice in the past two decades. Webby never thought this one would ever come up to be a baddy to face but... it was now happening. And she was stuck here.
…
How do I leave?
She tried doing the same practice she would do with meditation, but, for some reason, she just couldn't snap out of that trance. It was like something else was keeping her stuck there. Webby had already ruled out this being Jack Frost, and actually blamed this on... something else.
Something that was currently... watching her!
Turning around as the girl sensed the unnatural presence, her sight went 'missing' as blinding white light came from the source- that and two feather fingers that pressed against her forehead.
Not yet. But very soon. I promise you- April~.
Within a blink of an eye, Webby woke up lying on a familiar couch. For a moment, she thought all that had just happened had been a dream- or that she had been found and brought to safety but... this was a temporary hope.
Not when the eyes of a curious duck were aimed at her from above, leaning on the armchair of the couch, the fellow girl looked familiar to her, and as she tilted her head to the side, matched by the 'unfamiliar' female duck, she understood who she was.
The shoulder-length hair, the aviator jacket, blue shirt and baggy pants. That's... Della! A younger Della at that from the looks of it.
"She's awake!" Lil' Della announced loudly, making Webby jump as she heard two different footsteps approach.
"Geez, sis, there's no need to be so loud about it!" Lil' Donald groaned loudly back at his twin sibling and-
"Yeah, how are you actually?" Another boyish voice came up, this time directing the question to Webby.
Her heart stopped for a moment, after all she had expected this to happen but... her body just couldn't be prepared for it.
This younger version of her dad was a different person altogether. The hair and eyes were the same, if not for the latter pair being 'more innocent' and less 'tired'. He still had some baby fat by his cheeks and he had no facial hair.
He… looks cute.
Not enough for her to think weird things, but enough to plan on some teasing for her dad once she went back home. But for now, she had to avoid making a mess of a first impression.
"I-I'm fine, thanks."
"Well, who are you? I mean, this is the first time we have ever seen you in town and- I know everyone!"
"Mostly-"
"Mostly everyone," Della chirpily corrected herself while her brother was trying to do that much to his chagrin. "Still, what's your name?"
"Webby?"
"Webby, nice to meet you! I am Della- that stuttering dummy is my brother Donald and that's John, he is... well, the only and best human ever!"
"I- I'm not that great," John whined softly, surprising Webby slightly at the dynamics as both twins snorted at that.
She knew her dad had a confidence issue as a child and that he told her he behaved similarly to Lena about it but- but that was so similar to her sister!
"Now that we are through with the introductions, I suppose you were running for the manor because of the Yetis, right?"
"Y-Yes."
Wait, Yetis? As in, multiple ones? She had only seen one, but if there's much more then... where's Scrooge?
"I know, scary situation," Della remarked with a huff. "Uncle Scroogie is out on a business trip. He should back in a few days, so we have to fend off the Yeti until then."
Right as she finished saying that, a loud noise of a window being broken reached their ears… and yet, Della could only sigh.
"I think it's your turn, Donald-"
"WHAT?!" The squeaky duck exclaimed. "Why me?"
"Well, you didn't come with me and John, then you skipped the first attack and now I have to... talk with Webby."
"Urgh, fine!" Donald huffed loudly, then proceeded to storm away, John calmly following while giving a quizzical look at Della, clearly picking up that something about the girl's reason to skip action felt wrong.
In fact, he was right. Just not for reasons either Webby or him would have expected.
"So, I like you, Webby. I like your outfit~," Della started to say 'sweetly'. "But eyes off John."
...What?
"I-I wasn't-"
"You kind of were, so don't do anything funny with him or I will get mad. Got it?"
"Yes."
Della smiled again. "Good. So... wanna go hunt some yetis?"
Webby shrugged, but still smiled as the idea of hunting down Yetis was still giggle-worthy despite the scary look Della had given her just mere moments ago.
AN
In another timeline, John 'happened' many years earlier. With less knowledge, awareness and a more adorable outfit. Turns out that this may have gotten Della on a high gear on 'protecting' him about it.
Will it become a story? Dunno, really, but it's nice to entertain the thought.
Still, what is going on? This is a different timeline but what is Jack Frost's plan? And what is lurking within Webby's mind? More will be shown in the next two chapters!
