Ch. 16 Anything's Possible

GJSDF Houston, Texas July 22, 2017 2:00 p.m.

Kim sat down on the couch. The news she just heard from Shego had just shattered her reality. Her dad was pulling her from the force? How could he? Coming here was her decision and hers alone. Just because she got hurt, just because he's her father doesn't mean he could go over her head. She's an adult, she gets the final say. Kim took a deep breath as the reality of it all sunk in. She slowly exhaled as she felt the slight sting from her wound. She pulled her head up from her hands and looked up to see Bonnie and Shego looking at her, both women holding a concerned look in their eyes.

"He can't just pull me from the force." Kim said.

Shego shrugged. "That's what I said when I heard the news from Betty." Shego stated. "However she made it seem like he could. So maybe the old war horse knows something we don't."

"Do you think you could find out?" Kim asked. "If we can find out what exactly it is that let's my dad override my decision to join I'd like to know. There must be a way to override it." Kim suggested.

"What are you going to do?" Bonnie asked.

"I'm going to find my Dad." Kim stated. "I need him to know he can't make my life's decisions for me." Kim said with a scowl as she stood up. She loved her dad but this was inexcusable. Joining the force was Kim's dream and she had finally made it. There was no way in hell she would be made to leave.

"Oh no you don't." Shego said as she placed her hands on Kim's shoulders making the redhead sit back down. "If your dad hasn't said anything to you about leaving it means he has no idea you know. Which means we have the element of surprise." Shego said.

"But.." Kim tried to protest but Shego cut her off.

"But nothing." Shego told her. "Let me and Bonnie handle this. You just stay here, we'll let you know what we got."

"You can't just expect me to sit here!" Kim said, getting louder.

"That's exactly what I expect you to do." Shego said pointing her right index finger at the redhead. "You're injured." Shego said, making Kim look down to her injury. "We need to play this close if we're going to have a chance of convincing him otherwise."

"Well what do you expect us to do?" Bonnie said, looking to Shego.

Shego looked back at Bonnie as she turned to face the brunette a bit. " Go find Kim's friends starting with the blonde. We need to rally support."

"The buffoon? Got it." Bonnie said with a nod.

"Hey Ron isn't a buffoon!" Kim said in strict protest to Bonnie's remark.

Both women just stared at Kim with craned eyebrows. "Well he's not." Kim said not backing down from them.

"Anyway what do I do after I find them?" Bonnie inquired.

"Fill them in. But let them know to keep it under wraps." Shego told her.

"Should I find Destiny and Jacob?" Bonnie asked.

Shego shook her head. "I doubt they could help, they uh….have their hands full." Shego lied as she can't face her sister at the moment.

Shego's response didn't go unnoticed by Kim and she gave the raven haired woman a strange look though Shego didn't see it as she was organizing her strategy with Bonnie.

"Ok let's go and remember Kim."

"Don't leave the room I got it." Kim said with a huff and slight roll of the eyes as she cut off Shego.

Kim watched as Shego left to go find Betty leaving her and Bonnie alone. Kim watched as Bonnie went through her phone as she dialed a number and it went straight to voicemail. Bonnie sighed as she ran her hand through her hair.

"I'll let Shego know Betty isn't in her office since the phone went straight to voicemail." The brunette said as she looked up to see Kim staring at her.

Bonnie couldn't read Kim's expression fully but Bonnie thought back to before Shego's interruption. To what almost transpired between the two women. She broke eye contact with Kim looking off towards the door and after a few hesitant seconds she started to reach for the door and open it.

"Bonnie, earlier you said that Shego was interrupting something. What did you mean?" The redhead asked.

A nervous laugh escaped Bonnie's lips as she took a glance to see Kim staring directly at Bonnie. The brunette quickly looked away again.

"I was referring to what we were watching. We were four episodes in and I really wanted to know what was going to happen." Bonnie replied.

"Bonnie, you know that's not what I'm talking about." Kim stated. Bonnie could hear the slight irritation in Kim's voice. Was she mad at her? Or was the irritation from the news Shego delivered. Either way this situation wasn't helping either of them.

"Kim, can we focus on your situation at the moment?" Bonnie asked, still not looking at Kim.

"You're deflecting. You don't get to do that, you're not gonna use me as a scapegoat."Kim told her getting back up.

"Kim, I don't want to talk about it right now. I don't even know what that was." Bonnie said as her grip on the door became tighter.

"Well when do you plan on talking about it?" Kim asked the brunette.

Bonnie shrugged and that didn't help to soften the redhead's mood. "Oh I see, you don't plan to talk about it." Kim started. "Bonnie I don't know if you realize but I was there too."

"I know that Kim but like I said now's not the time." Bonnie said as she opened the door.

"When?" Kim asked as she cut Bonnie off and managed to close the door back. Kim looked a Bonnie with a face of worry and an emotion Bonnie couldn't fully read.

"Talk to me Bonnie, Please." Kim said.

"Kim, stop." Bonnie said.

"I just want you to talk to me. I'm not asking for a lot." Kim responded.

"Kim." Bonnie said but the redhead continued on ignoring Bonnie and blocking her attempt to leave as she stood firm in front of the door.

"You can't act like the last ten minutes didn't happen. Bonnie you were about to kiss.."

Bonnie's hand was swift. Swifter than she or Kim could have realized. She blinked as she saw Kim's head snap to the right, the redhead's hair falling a bit in front of her face hiding the shocked expression on Kim's face. Bonnie's right hand held in place, she felt the sting in her hand from making contact with Kim's face. She drew her hand back to her side as she became tight lipped. She didn't mean to strike her, it just happened all she wanted was for Kim to let her leave.

"Kim." Bonnie said, her voice a whisper.

Kim stepped aside, no longer blocking Bonnie's exit but not even bothering to look at the brunette. Her red hair blocked Bonnie's view of her eyes. Bonnie tried to step into Kim's view but she just turned her head not wanting to look at Bonnie.

"Just…..go." Kim said with a small wave of her hand that motioned to the door.

Bonnie stared at her hoping Kim would look at her. She didn't mean it, it was a mistake she wanted to say, but her mouth wouldn't open. Her lips were unable to form the words. As much as Bonnie wanted to make things right she found herself opening the door and walking out of Kim's room shutting the door behind her. Bonnie looked back as she heard the lock clicking, signaling that Kim did not want her coming back in.

Bonnie placed her hand on her forehead as she shook her head in dismay. A part of her wanted to knock on Kim's door and apologize and talk like the redhead wanted. However, another part of her wanted to sweep everything under the rug. It was a mishap, just a spur of the moment. Kim's story had her riled up and she was already confused as to what was going on with her internally. Bonnie took a deep breath and she needed to go find Kim's friends and tell them the situation. However Bonnie realized she most likely didn't have any rapport with Kim's friends because of their recent animosity to each other. Bonnie sighed as she realized her work had been cut out for her.

Jacob was watching TV on the couch while Destiny slept soundly in the bed not too far from him. She often slept a lot after a major usage of her powers but she never slept three days straight. Jacob guessed it was because of the pregnancy but it still worried him. He looked over and watched the steady rise and fall of her chest and smiled. She was pregnant with his child. The realization was almost too much to bear, Jacob couldn't believe he was gonna be a father. Destiny has brought so much light in his life. He came to the force with only one thing on his mind and she came along and offered him so much more.

Jacob got up to go into the kitchen as he went into the fridge to grab a bottle of water. He was walking back into the living room when he heard a knock at the door. Jacob looked at the door with a craned eyebrow he wasn't expecting anyone. He wasn't all that surprised that Shego hasn't been by in days, Shego and Destiny didn't talk for a week during their most heated of conversations. When the knock came again and this time a bit louder Jacob decided he would answer it so as to not have Destiny's rest disturbed. Jacob opened the door to see Betty standing there with a very less than pleased look. She was about to speak when Jacob lifted his index finger to his mouth indicating that she needed to speak quietly. Jacob then stepped out of the room and closed the door quietly behind him.

"I knew I'd find you here Lieutenant Matthews." Betty addressed him.

"Uh oh Lieutenant Matthews, you only use that when I've done something wrong." Jacob said.

"Two words. Safe. Sex." Betty said.

Jacob laughed nervously seeing that Betty was now aware of Destiny's new condition. "We were going to tell you Dr Director."

"When during the gender reveal!" She yelled in a whisper poking him in the chest. " You guys couldn't wrap it up? We provide condoms because we realize the environment our soldiers are training and working in. I'm sure you're familiar with the brand Lieutenant Matthews. The ones that have our logo on them, with the face of the Mecha you pilot." She said describing the product.

"Yeah who ok'd that. It feels so awkward wearing those it feels like I'm invading Destiny when we're intimate." Jacob pointed out.

"It's supposed to symbolize protection…we're getting off course, the point is you guys just screwed us seven ways to Sunday." Betty said.

"Come again?" Jacob said not sure what Betty was getting at.

Betty rubbed her temples with her fingers. "Fuck me." She groaned. "Have you forgotten that the secretary of defense is coming here in September? He is bringing the investors for Kiryu to see if it's worth the continued investment. Mind you it's been seven whole years since you and second lieutenant Go piloted Kiryu. Now she's pregnant and is in no shape to fly!" Betty stated.

"You make it seem like it's my fault." Jacob replied.

"You knocked up my poster child! It is your fault!" She said, grabbing him. "Do you remember how long it took you and Destiny to go through compatibility training just to take Kiryu on a test drive?" She asked with a half growl.

"A year." Jacob answered.

"Exactly and we have less than two months." Betty said releasing him. "Where in the hell am I going to find someone to pilot Kiryu in the span of two months?" She asked.

Jacob put his hand to his chin and stroked it as he thought. The first person that came to his mind was Shego and that's because she had vehemently made it known she was going to do so. When he thought about anyone else not many people came to mind. Sure there were a lot of promising first years on up but none that could match Shego. Her superhuman endurance and abilities put her in a league of her own. Then Jacob remembered one person, a certain redhead with a drive in her, not unlike Shego's.

"What about Kim and Shego?" Jacob asked.

Betty stopped to actually consider Jacob's suggestion. She looked back at Jacob and pointed at him. "You may be on to something Matthews. But there is one problem." Betty told him.

"Kim's being pulled." Jacob remembered to which Betty nodded. "Damnit I forgot about that. It's gonna be hard to find someone who can match Shego's capabilities."

"Well you better get to it." Betty said to which Jacob gave her a bewildered look.

"Excuse me?" Jacob replied.

"You put us in this mess, you fix it." Betty told him as she pointed at him. "Find someone who can be paired with Master Sergeant Go."

"Dr Director, I say this with all due respect, but in case it still hasn't registered we're expecting." Jacob said as motioned between himself and the held a sleeping Destiny. "My hands are full."

"Not as full as they're going to be if you can't resolve this situation." Betty told him as she turned to walk away leaving a bewildered Jacob behind. "Oh congratulations by the way I'm sure you'll both be great parents and I do expect an invite to the baby shower." She called as she continued down the hall.

Jacob watched as she disappeared around the corner before he let out a frustrated groan. "It's times like these where a Kaiju threat would really be appreciated." He mumbled before going back into the room to check on Destiny.

Fingers typed away at a keyboard as a screen ran several diagnostics programs and simulations. The screen displayed a cellular structure as several numbers appeared at different intervals. The fingers that typed away with so much focus belonged to Dr Anne Possible. She was running various simulations on her computer based off the data she had gained from studying Godzilla's cells. She had found that they possessed an alarming regeneration rate. Even as she was running simulations the cells under microscope were multiplying trying to reform luckily with no success, but even still they refused to completely die. If only she could find a medium to harness this power with, she could use it to bolster mankind. The pharmaceutical possibilities at her disposal seemed endless.

A series of rhythmic chimes caught Anne's attention, making her look up from her laptop. It was her phone and she could see she was getting a call from Kim through Facebook messenger.

"Hey Kimmie what's up are you feeling ok?" Anne asked her daughter as she accepted Kim's call.

"No." Kim replied, her voice dry and neutral. Anne also picked up what she believed was a sniffle and she began to theorize what could be behind her daughter's current mood.

"Talk to me. What's wrong?" Anne asked. She wasn't looking directly into the phone and on Kim's end she could see and hear her mother typing away furiously at the keyboard.

"Did you know that Dad was gonna pull me from the force?" Kim asked her mom as she tried to read her mother's expression as she continued to work. The reflection of her screen bouncing off her glasses.

"I did." Anne answered as she continued to type, not missing a beat or taking her attention off the screen.

Kim wasn't all too shocked by her mother's admission. They worked as a unit in their respective fields and at home when it came to parenting. When one made a decision the other backed it even if they weren't completely onboard with it. It was rare when they disagreed however.

"Why didn't you tell me? Warn me? Something." Kim questioned her mother.

Anne sighed as she stopped typing. She took her glasses off slowly as she turned to face Kim in the screen, her blue eyes focused intently on her daughter. "I did warn you Kim." Anne said. "I told you how dangerous this military life is. I told you to take this seriously."

"And I have been mom. It's only been two months and in those two months I've made considerable strides."

"You call that injury a stride?" Anne asked Kim, giving her a stern look. "Your father told me about the debriefing he received about Japan. You're lucky to even be alive. You took a direct hit from Shego's plasma energy. If it wasn't for the kevlar you all wear you'd be dead Kim, dead." She told her daughter.

"I don't know what I would have done if I lost you. You and your brothers are my world. I've been supportive of your decisions and you know that but this time Kim…" Anne paused, she closed her eyes and inhaled before exhaling slowly, her breath sounding a bit shaky. The realization that she could have lost her oldest child sinking in to Kim as she watched her mother. "I can't, I just can't." She told her daughter as she fought back her tears.

Kim looked away from the screen. What happened in Japan was a mistake. Soldiers sometimes get hurt in the line of duty and it was the risk they knew they were taking. It came with the territory.

"Don't let him take me away from here." Kim pleaded, her eyes begging her mother for the support she desperately needed.

Anne shook her head. "Our minds have been made up." Anne told her.

"You guys can't do this to me!" Kim shouted.

"Don't you dare take that tone of voice with me, young lady." Anne said, quickly correcting her daughter. "You may be grown, but you are my daughter and army or no army you still live under my roof and you will respect what we decide."

"I'm Twenty Two years old, not eight. I don't live with you anymore. I've been gone for two months!" Kim said her fist impacted the dresser she was sitting next to. "This isn't like the time I broke my leg in middle school."

"This is worse." Anne said. "You almost died." The older redhead said. "Do you know what the definition of death is or need I remind you what that means?" Anne asked her.

"Kim shook her head. "No mom, but I'm a soldier. These risks come with the job."

"That's the thing. You're not a soldier. You're a girl with ambitions bigger than yourself. At your rank you shouldn't have gone where you did. Think about the repercussions your actions will have. Think Kim think." Anne said to her.

Kim stayed silent for a bit as she thought about her words. She was listening to what her mom was saying to her but this was her life, it was her choice. Kim was the one who got to make the calls now, not her parents.

"I'm sorry mom, I really am but I'm not leaving the force." Kim said as she looked at her with a determined gaze.

Anne shook her head. "The decision has already been finalized by Dr Director." Anne told her. The news shook Kim's determination and her gaze softened. "Friday morning you're coming home whether you like it or not. You will heal and receive proper management for your injury and then we'll figure out what to do from there. But you're done playing tin soldier, do you hear me?" Anne asked her, this time it was the mother who held the determined gaze as she stared through the screen.

Kim let out a sigh as the call disconnected. Anne closed her eyes as she punched the bridge of her nose. Kim was the culmination of her father's can-do attitude and of course Anne's confidence. Once she set her mind on something it was nigh impossible to steer her from it. Anne was just worried, this would be the second time she's almost lost her daughter. Kim mentioned middle school when she broke her leg but that wasn't the day Anne played back in her mind. She tried to banish the thought as she could hear her calling out Kim's name in the back of her mind. She could still see Kim laying unconscious in her bed, unresponsive to her mother's voice and touch as she violently shook her. Anne could remember the semi firm grip her daughter had on a pill bottle with some of its contents spilled on the floor the morning she discovered her daughter. How could Anne truly forget that? It was Kim's junior year and the roughest year of her life. So much so, that it almost took her daughter from her. Anne didn't like intruding on her daughter's life but she felt this was the right thing to do. She felt that any decision geared towards keeping Kim on the same plane of existence with her was the right decision. Anne gave herself a few minutes to gather herself before going back to her work. She needed to figure out the function of Godzilla's cells and fast if she was going to make any kind of meaningful breakthrough.

Shego marches down the halls of the force. She had gotten Bonnie's text about Dr Director possibly not being in her off and so went looking around the base for the general. When she checked her phone she saw she had several missed calls. Two were from Destiny, from the day she had that argument with her older sibling, the rest was from her brother Hego. No doubt he received the news too and had blown up her phone to talk to her about it but Shego hadn't bothered to look at her phone these last three days. She had turned the ringer silent, needing time to figure things out, figure herself out. While she still hadn't found the answer to what she needed to be doing or looking for she knew she still had time. Right now she needed to keep Kim from leaving.

Her thoughts drifted back to when she knocked on the redheads door. She was surprised to see Bonnie there. The brunette seemed different ever since they came back from Monster Island and she has been meaning to talk to her about it but with everything that has happened she had simply forgotten to do so. Shego smiled because she was right about Bonnie and Kim being different sides to the same coin. Shego took note of Bonnie's outfit and how it hugged her figure. It was a casual outfit sure but it was the choice of it that got Shego wondering if her idea of pushing those two together was right all along. For whatever reason Bonnie chose that outfit to wear when she went to Kim's. Bonnie has shown off her figure before but that was when they stepped out to go somewhere. Outside of the gym Bonnie has never shown her figure off not until today. Shego laughed to herself when she realized that Kim must be that interesting of a person if she has them both acting out of their comfort zones.

Shego stopped various people around the base asking if they had seen Betty. Some did not while those who did pointed her in the direction they saw the general going. As she walked down the hall her long raven hair flowed behind her and she garnered a lot of attention as she was walking around in her sports bra and a black pair of pants that similar to Bonnie hugged her form. Shego ignored it as she was on a mission. Besides there was no one here that caught her attention other than Bonnie and…

Shego rounded the corner and saw Betty conversing with some soldiers and it broke her current train of thought. She picked up her pace as she seemed to glide across the floor of the lounge. Her approach did not go unnoticed as some of the soldiers saw her coming and stepped back. Like Bonnie, Shego has gained a fierce reputation and when she had a look on her face. A look of focus and determination like she held now, they knew to give her a wide berth.

"Betty, can we talk?" Shego asked as she caught the older woman's attention. Shego gestured with her thumb to a room in the lounge where they could conversate privately.

Betty excused herself and she and Shego walked into the other room. The room in question was a small kitchen separate from the main one where the cooks prepared meals for everyone on site. The small room had a fridge and microwave, a small countertop that the microwave sat on and next to it was a coffee pot. Next to the counter top was a small stove and next to the fridge was a water cooler with styrofoam cups that sat on top. There were three chairs in the room stacked on top of each other in a corner and Betty grabbed you to sit in. She gestured to the other chairs and Shego nodded showing that she did not intend to sit down.

"Ok Shego, you have my attention." Betty said to the Master Sergeant. "What is it that you want to talk to me about?" Betty wondered.

"It's about Kim." Shego replied.

Betty sighed. "Shego we have been over this. My hands are tied. The decision was final, she's leaving Friday."

Shego growled. Her expression twisted into one of displeasure. "That's bull shit Betty and you know it." Shego stated. "She's a damn adult. How the hell can he decide she has to go? She hasn't even been here for half a year. She doesn't know the person she could become yet."

"Don't you think I know that?" Came Betty's reply. "I'm losing out on a very promising soldier. Her career could have been just as good as Destiny's, that's the potential she possessed. However James doesn't see it that way. He seemed generally spooked about what happened. He threatened to go above my head to the higher ups, my higher ups. If they got wind of what happened, of what I allowed that got her injured in the first place they'd not only have my head but your sister's and Jacob's as well." Betty said, the statement catching Shego off guard. "Both Jacob and Destiny are being considered for promotion to the rank of Captain. With their current situation of Destiny being pregnant, did you know she was pregnant by the way?"

"I found out a few days ago." Shego said dismissively wanting to get back on the subject.

Betty shook her head. "Please tell me you've been keeping your legs closed?"

"Haven't found someone worth spreading them for." Shego said with another dismissive tone. "Why are you so interested in my sex life? As far as that is concerned it's none of your damn business." Shego retorted.

"Watch your tone Shego I am still your commanding officer." Betty reminded her.

"Look, the moment you start asking about who I let pet my kitty is when rank gets thrown out the window. Now either drop the subject or help me figure out a way to keep Kim at base that doesn't get my sister fired." Shego said folding her arms.

"I'm asking because now that Destiny is pregnant that means she can't pilot the mecha."

The Mecha, yeah Destiny gave me the whole rundown when I found out she's been shacking up with lover boy." Shego said interrupting Betty. "Did you know those two were a thing?"

Betty nodded. "Yes, wait did you not know? Nevermind we're getting off subject." Betty said trying to steer the conversation back on course. "Point is I need new pilots and you're one of them." Betty told Shego.

Shego's Jade eyes went wide with surprise. "What?" Shego said, barely getting the word out.

"I need you to start training. We have two months to find you someone compatible to pilot that mecha." Betty told her.

Shego couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her pilot Kiryu? Her whole reason for joining the force was just presented to her. To pilot Kiryu and defeat Godzilla and make the world safe again. Shego was at a loss for words she was not expecting to hear this announcement, however reality quickly set in as it often did for Shego. She quickly regained her composure.

"I refuse." Shego said.

This time it was Betty who was stunned. Did she hear her correctly? "What was that?" Betty asked, needing clarification.

"I said no." Shego clarified. "My whole reason for joining was to pilot Kiryu with my sister. I can't do that anymore so I don't want to pilot the damn thing. There's no reason to anymore." Shego explained.

"Shego I'm afraid that's life. Your sister accepted that fact when she chose to become the pilot alongside Jacob. You've trained hard for this, I've watched you. So to hear you say no is quite disappointing." Betty said.

"I'm afraid that's life." Shego said, throwing the general's words back at her. "Besides there is no one here who can match me. Bonnie's specialty is the air. Yori is close to me in skill but we operate on different wavelengths. Everyone is beneath me." She said giving Betty the thumbs down as a sign of her disapproval.

Shego didn't want to say it because she felt like it would fall on deaf ears but the only one she believed that could keep up with her is leaving in a few days. Shego couldn't understand how but that day when they sparred she felt that there was more to the redhead but sadly she will never know it seems.

"I wouldn't be so sure." Betty said. Her words made Shego crane her eyebrow before looking in the direction that Betty was to see a group of first years. They were gathered around one soldier a male around Kim and Ron's age.

The soldier in question was a bit taller than Ron, maybe by an inch. His skin was tanned like Bonnie's and he had blue eyes. His hair was brown with frosted tips and his build was slim but more toned than some of the other first years. He flashed a smile as his female comrades fawned over him. Asking him all kinds of questions and he answered them confidently. His answers came in the form of how he was gonna lead his first year comrades to the top and all they had to do was follow him.

"Who the hell is he supposed to be?" Shego asked.

"Goes by the name Josh Mankey." Betty answered. "His academic grades may not be as high as Kim's but his skills on the obstacle and training are almost even. He's a potential candidate according to Vivian."

Shego stifled a laugh. "You think he can keep up with me?" Shego asked.

"The grades don't lie." Betty told her.

Shego shook her head. "Well I go by performance. He needs to put up or shut up." Shego countered. Shego wasn't impressed by what she saw, she refused to believe this was her only compatible person in the force.

"And you're sure there is nothing that can be done to stop Kim from leaving?" Shego asked again.

Betty shook her head reaffirming that the situation wasn't as black and white as Shego had hoped. However she was not about to call it quits yet. Not when she felt there was still something that she could do. There was a loophole to everything you just had to know where to look. Shego's dark nails dug into her arm as the frustration began to sit in. She hoped Bonnie was having better luck than she was.

Unbeknownst to Shego, up above on the second floor was Kim. She looked down to see the other soldiers surrounding Josh. Kim knew him and he also attended Middleton High School. He was good at sports even though back then he was more known for his art. However academic wise he was lacking. She was willing to bet he was getting by in his classes the same way he had in Middleton. Back then he used his charm to get by having his work literally handed to him. She remembered how he would have answers given to him for tests or his homework completed for him instead of doing it on his own. Josh looked up and saw Kim and flashed her smile. The redhead sneered at him. She hadn't forgotten how he treated her when her reputation was ruined and her name had been dragged through the mud and dirt.

She remembered how he taunted her back then. The words he said were like venom to ears and her eyes began to sting in anger as she looked at him. She pushed herself back from the balcony and continued down the hall. Her burn injury stinging as she walked briskly through the hall. She brushed passed the other soldiers as they tried to stop her and either ask her about her injury or if she was feeling ok. She had one thing on her mind and as she stood a few feet away from the door to her father's office she felt her anger bubble to the surface. She reached for the knob instead of knocking like she normally would and threw the door open, startling her father. He looked up quickly and saw his daughter enter the room trying to mask her pain as she strolled up to him.

"Kim, you startled me." He said. He was expecting Ron to be behind her but upon seeing he was not a curious expression took over his facial features. "Did you walk all the way from your room? You're not supposed to be up and moving around this much." He told her.

Kim was breathing heavy as her chest rose and fell faster than normal. To someone that didn't know she was injured they would assume that she had just gotten through exercising. She stood up straight enduring the pain she was currently feeling as she stood before her father.

"Kim sit, talk to me, what's wrong?" James asked.

"I spoke to mom, after hearing from Shego." Kim started as she looked him in his eyes. "You're pulling me from the force? You can't, I won't let you." She said, shaking her head slowly showing that she was not leaving.

James sighed. He was gonna wait a few more days to tell Kim that he was taking her home but of course Shego told her what was going on. He had a feeling that she would.

"What gives you the right to think you can take this away from me?" Kim asked as she still breathed heavily though it was hard to tell if the cause was fatigue or her emotions coming to the surface.

"I'm your father, that's all the right I need." James corrected her slamming his hands on the table as he stood up. He was not about to have this argument for the third time. "Now listen to me and listen to me clearly." He said pointing his index finger at her. "I've let you make your own decisions, I have given you the freedom of choice and I may have not liked all of them but damnit I've tried." He said.

"My choices? Oh you mean because I like women." Kim said with an incredulous chuckle. "I know how you felt about that for the longest time. I overheard your conversation with Mom after I came out to you both."

"How I feel?" James repeated as incredulous chuckle of his own escaped his mouth. "You have no idea about how I feel. Yes I had a problem with your choice of preference at first but I got over that real quick and you know why?" He asked. "Because I almost lost you the year before you came out to us. I remember 2012, do you? You are my first born Kim and you almost died because of what someone else decided to do to you. I'll be damned before I let you repeat that mistake with this place." He said as he walked up to her.

Kim took a step back, she didn't want to be touched, not right now. She wanted to be taken seriously. "I got hurt once and that's it huh? You're just gonna pull the plug?"

"This isn't like the time you broke your leg. You received a lethal dose of radiation. Lethal as in deadly, as in you could have died." James said spelling it out for her daughter.

"Yes and Destiny saved me. That's what comrades do, Dad that's what the training was for." Kim argued.

"Oh and I suppose that makes all of this better?" He asked, with a question of his own. "Stop and think, what if Destiny wasn't there, what then? Or what if you had faced that mad woman alone. She would have cut you down in an instant. No one could stop her, not Jacob, not Yori, not even Shego and they have had years worth of experience. Now I can't tell them what they should do. I'm not their father but I am yours." He emphasized to Kim, trying to get her to understand his point of view. "As long as I provide a roof over your head, my word is law and you'll follow that law to a damn tee."

Kim tensed you a bit as he got closer, reprimanding her, she looked away for a bit feeling cornered at first, but she still stood her ground. "Then I'll move out. I'm an adult and I don't want to stay somewhere where I'm not tested like one."

"That's rich." James countered. "You'll move out and go where because in September the Secretary of defense is coming here and all soldiers and staff are required to go through a physical. When they see that." James said, pointing to Kim's injured left side. "They'll have questions. And what are you going to tell them? Hmm?"

"I'll come up with something. I'll say it was an old injury from high school." She told him. She honestly hadn't thought of that but it would be no big deal by the time September hit she would be good as new she figured.

"That may work if it wasn't wrapping around your left torso. The secretary of defense isn't a fool he'll go looking into it and once he finds out that you were sent on a mission where an enlisted soldier of your rank should not have been. A lot of heads will be on the chopping block."

"What are you saying?" Kim asked her father.

"Destiny, Jacob, Betty, hell maybe even Shego could face dishonorable discharges for allowing you to go with them to Monster Island. There are protocols that should have been followed but they were ignored. Off of that alone me and your mother could take legal action." James informed her.

"You wouldn't?" Kim said with a glare.

"No, I'm not because I'm just glad to have you alive, but I am doing them a huge favor by pulling you from the force now. Ask yourself this Kim, do you want to see them lose everything they worked hard to achieve? Is your two months worth the years of blood, sweat and tears they have invested?"

Kim broke eye contact as she looked down at the floor. Her father made a point and she didn't want to admit that, but she knew a part of him was right.

Shego was walking back to Kim's room. She needed to formulate another strategy. One that doesn't get her sister fired. She hadn't spoken to Destiny yet or Jacob for that matter since the news broke. She was still angry and she knew she'd be a liar if she tried to say that she wasn't. She had been lied to after all. She felt deceived, like her purpose meant nothing to her sister. All Destiny had to do was sit her down and talk to her, Shego would have understood. Instead she let the lie persist, and fermint for years, when she could have been dedicating herself to a different cause entirely. Instead of training for Destiny she could have been training for someone else and sure that may have meant she wouldn't be getting to pilot Kiryu but she could have at least found somewhere else in the force to make her talents more applicable. Now not only was she stuck in the position of being runner up pilot because she wouldn't know if she earned the spot herself honestly but she was going to be paired with a narcissist. There was something about Josh that bothered her. He seemed like he knew it all, a self absorbed creep and the way he would flash his smile to girls made her skin crawl. She swore if he tried to hit on her she would fry him.

She rounded the corner that led to Kim's room and knocked on the redhead's door. When no reply came she knocked a bit harder. "Kim." Shego called out in case the younger woman was sleeping. Shego checked her phone and there was nothing from Bonnie yet and Shego didn't want to disturb Kim if she was sleeping. She decided to check the door if it was unlocked she'd peek her head in to check. Shego grabbed the door knob and twisted it slowly to find that it was unlocked. She slowly pushed the door open. "Kim, it's me." Shego said, announcing herself as she entered the redhead's room.

When no reply came, Shego peered into the room to find it empty. There was the bowl of popcorn from earlier that had been spilled onto her couch and the TV was still on with the words Netflix floating around the screen. "Kim you in here?" Shego called out again just in case Kim may have gone to the bathroom or something. Her room was quiet, not a sound to be made anywhere. She knew Kim could move around but the redhead wasn't exactly supposed to be taking leisurely strolls as of right now, so she wondered where Kim could have gone. She stroked her chin as she thought about it and her eyes went wide.

"Fuck!" Shego exclaimed, as she turned to leave Kim's room in a hurry closing the door behind her. She quickly unlocked her phone and dialed Bonnie's number. The phone rang a few times before the brunette picked up irritation in her voice as she answered. "Bonnie, where are you? Is Kim with you?"

"I'm outside near the obstacle course, and no why would she?" Bonnie replied through the phone.

"Shit." Shego cursed. "She wasn't in her room when I just went by to check on her. I think she may have gone to confront her pops."

Bonnie cursed through the phone. "Why would she do that?"

"I'm going to go find her. Meet me there if you can." Shego told Bonnie. The brunette agreed and the call was disconnected. Shego needed to get there before it was too late, before she could be talked into leaving. Shego bolted down the hall trying not to knock over everyone else as she made her way to where Kim was.

Kim hadn't considered the possibility that everyone else could be in trouble just because she got injured. She wanted to argue it wasn't her fault, she didn't get injured on purpose but the fact of the matter is that it did happen and she was injured. Her father was right and that fact alone didn't sit well with her. Now there was a real possibility people could lose their livelihoods because of her, because she was careless.

"It's not fair." Kim said, her voice a whisper. She had clenched her fists and as she began trembling and tightened her fists as if that would stop the trembling. She had just barely begun and now she had to leave. Her friends were here. Ron, Zita, Brick and Felix. She would have to leave them behind.

"You gave it your best shot, Kimmie-cub." James said, trying to reassure his daughter.

Tears fell from Kim's cheeks and stained the floor as she started to hyperventilate. Her career was already over, her hopes of making the world a better place would be just that, a hope. Everything she went through to get here felt as if it was all for nothing.

"It's not fair!" Kim yelled, her head still lowered.

James came closer and embraced his daughter wrapping her up in a hug as gently as he could so as to not cause her injury any pain. His hand ran through her red hair as she began to cry harder into his chest. He could feel her tears soaking through his shirt as her cries grew worse. He rocked her gently in his embrace as he held her a bit tighter telling her to let it all out. It hurt him to see Kim in this type of pain, he understood full well that her dream had come to a crashing halt.

Outside the door stood Shego as she listened to Kim's cries and watched as her father tried to comfort her. She could feel herself hurting a bit. She sympathized with Kim after all her world came crashing down around her days ago too. She wanted to enter the room but she knew her presence wouldn't be appreciated, at least not by James at the moment. After all this was happening because Shego told Kim what was happening, she felt responsible for the redhead's pain. Shego slowly backed off and walked down the hall feeling defeated yet again as Kim's cries echoed in the halls behind her.
