A/N: Emily and Beca getting a cat with a cool name 2: electric boogaloo

"Road Work Ahead!"

Beca sighed and looked up from her laptop, running her hands through her hair. It wasn't that she was annoyed, it was just that she couldn't believe she and Emily had gotten another cat that had an anything but normal name, and Emily insisted on calling him his full name every time she wanted to see him or feed him dinner.

She looked up just as Emily walked by the room, calling their new kitten's name again.

"Em, you can just call him 'Road', don't you think that'd be easier?"

At the mention of the shortened name, Beca heard the light tinkle of a bell, and looked down under her desk to find the aforementioned kitten looking up at her. She hadn't even been aware he'd been in the room, no less a few inches away from her.

"Hey," Beca said, pushing her chair back. "Come here, Road."

The tiny black kitten slowly got up, stretching his little limbs as Beca offered her hand, and sniffed at her fingers.

"Hey, buddy," she said, letting him finish smelling her before reaching to pick him up and placing him in her lap. She gently scratched his back, ruffling his fur. "Good boy."

She heard Emily call the kitten's full name somewhere from the apartment again, and chuckled, still petting the kitty in her lap. "He's in here with me, Em."

A few moments later, Emily appeared in the doorway, her eyes lighting up when she saw the kitten in Beca's lap. "There you are, Road Work Ahead! Hiding from me in your other mom's work room, huh?"

"I didn't even know he was in here until I called him," Beca said, as Emily came to her chair and plopped herself down right in front of her. "You know, he answered when I called him 'Road', so..."

"His name is Road Work Ahead and we have to address him as such," Emily said, offering her fingers to the kitten like Beca had done. The kitten moved his head to sniff her fingers, while Beca was still petting him.

"I'm just saying, he seems to answer to Road better," Beca said with a smirk. "Try it."

Emily sighed. "Fine. Hey, Road."

The kitten licked Emily's fingers, headbutting them with his head. Beca smirked down at Emily, who just shook her head.

"That's just coincidence because he missed me," Emily responded. "It doesn't mean your theory is right."

"Mmhmm," Beca said simply, still smirking. "Well, I hate to cut this short, but can you take your baby? I need to get this paper done without kitten distractions."

"With pleasure," Emily said, gently taking the kitten from Beca's lap, and bringing him into her arms. "Road Work Ahead and I are gonna go watch some funny cat videos. Good luck with your paper."

"I hope you and Road have a good time," Beca replied. As she was readjusting herself and her chair, a tiny noise startled them both. Beca and Emily froze, looking at each other.

"Was that—"

"Did he—"

"His first meow," Emily said excitedly. "Oh my gosh, that's what that was, right?"

"I think so," Beca replied, looking at the kitten in Emily's arms. "Are you talking, Road?"

Another tiny adorable noise came from the kitten. Emily scratched his back, and got another noise in response.

"Well, we've got a talker now," Beca said.

"They grow up so fast," Emily replied. "Good job, Road."

The kitten just nuzzled into Emily's hand.

A/N: I follow the Catfinder posts on Tumblr and saw a kitten named after my favorite vine so I had to write a thing about it since I can't obtain the cat myself. Thanks for reading! c:
