"Let all cat's old enough to catch their own prey gather here for a clan meeting!" Firestar yowled. Jayfeather approached the clan leader and sat down as his clan mates were also gathering. Once all the cats were in front of him Firestar announced, "As all of you know we have very eager kits that are ready to be apprenticed." Jayfeather looked over at Moonkit whose eyes were gleaming with excitement. Moonkit never told him if she was going to be his apprentice or not but she said she told Firestar her decision. "Moonkit please step forward. " Firestar ordered. Moonkit trotted up to the clan leader. "Lionblaze please join us." Firestar asked. Jayfeather's jaw dropped. He expected for her to be his apprentice not his brother's! "Moonkit do you accept to be loyal to your clan and be the best warrior you can be?" Firestar asked. "Yes." She answered. "Then from this day forward before you receive your warrior name you will be known as Moonpaw." Firestar added."Lionblaze you have proven your loyalty and leadership. You are a great warrior and I know you will pass on your skills to Moonpaw." Firestar said. "I will do my best Firestar." Lionblaze confirmed. "Moonpaw! Moonpaw! Moonpaw!" The clan chanted. Jayfeather didn't chant though; he was fuming with anger. She should be his apprentice, a medicine cat not a warrior! Moonpaw and Lionblaze sat back down among their clan mates. Firestar also apprenticed Poppyfrost's kits, Cherrykit, and Molekit. Cherrypaw and her mentor Foxleap, Molepaw with Rosepetal, and Moonpaw with Lionblaze all started to walk out of the camp. Jayfeather ran up to Lionblaze and hissed, "Can I speak to you for a moment?" He nodded and then went behind a bramble. "You must convince her to become my apprentice." Jayfeather commanded. "What? No! She is my apprentice. Why are you jealous?" Lionblaze countered. Jayfeather bared his teeth then screeched, "She has amazing knowledge of medicine! She has to be my apprentice!" Lionblaze fluffed up his pelt making him look three times the size as Jayfeather. "So she is smart, which will make her a great warrior!" Lionblaze yowled. "You don't understand." Jayfeather scowled. "Oh? I don't understand? I think I understand enough to know that you just want an apprentice so that you don't have to lift a paw! Just lay off Jayfeather she is MY apprentice." Lionblaze roared. He stalked away to Moonpaw who was gaping because she obviously heard. Jayfeather scowled than stalked back to his den. He flopped down into his nest; he needed to speak with Starclan. He shut his eyes and within a few minutes he found himself in a grassy clearing in Starclan. Bluestar trotted up to him and said, "Welcome Jayfeather!" "Why didn't she get apprenticed to me?" He growled. "Who? Oh you mean Halfmoon. I-I-I mean Moonpaw." She said. "Wait, Halfmoon?" His eyes widened. "Um no no-." Bluestar murmured. Pictures flashed through Jayfeather's mind. First he saw Halfmoon brushing up against him her silky pelt connecting to his. Next he saw Moonpaw being born. He noticed that she looked exactly like Halfmoon. Then he remembered her medicine skills that she showed him in his den. Once he made all the connections he whispered, "Moonpaw is Halfmoon isn't she?" Bluestar nodded. "I must see her!" he said as he started to walk away. "No!" Bluestar yowled. "Don't you remember the omen Jayfeather?" Bluestar asked. "Of coarse I do! But I must see her I must-" he started to say. "Remember your duties Jayfeather. You are a medicine cat not a warrior. You can not have a mate." Bluestar interrupted. Jayfeather ran up to her and stuck his face in hers. "You don't understand!" He growled darkly. "Exactly what do I not understand Jayfeather?" Bluestar hissed. "I love her!" He whispered.
