Jayfeather walked out of camp to a old fox den that Thunderclan hadn't discovered yet. That was where he and Moonspirit met everyday after she was free of her warrior duties. Jayfeather had not yet decided if he was going to give up his warrior duties so it was just their little secret. He shoved his way into the fox den where he saw Moonspirit lying on her flank. Jayfeather trotted up to her and collapsed next to her. "Hello Jayfeather." She greeted drowsily. Jayfeather licked her cheek and mumbled, "Tired?" She nodded. "Extremely." She added grumpily. "What's wrong?" Jayfeather asked. "It's Molefoot. He has been pestering me about how he loved me and how we would make amazing kits." She explained. Jayfeather hissed in annoyance, he hated Molefoot so much. "Don't worry about him he is just a mousebrained kittypet." Moonspirit assured. "I love you Jayfeather, and only you." She added lovingly. It had been almost a whole moon since Halfmoon visited him and Jayfeather realized that he needed to decide now. Almost as if she read his mind Moonspirit asked, "Jayfeather have you decided?" "Well- err-." Jayfeather stuttered. Moonspirit glared at him. "I can't abandon my duties as a medicine cat! I love you so much but can't we just carry on meeting here everyday?" Jayfeather answered hesitantly. "What? Continue hiding our love for each other? I thought I came before everything Jayfeather!" Moonspirit hissed. "I do! You do come before everything it's just that- the clan- they need me." Jayfeather whimpered. "Jayfeather, I wanted to be mates with you! Have kits! How can we do that when we are hiding our love in the shadows? I love you Jayfeather but this- us- can't work out." Halfmoon murmured. "Moonspirit you can't make me choose!" Jayfeather objected. "Maybe Molefoot was right. I am going to be with him now Jayfeather. Got it?" She wailed. "But Moonspirit" "Enough Jayfeather! I have had enough of you. Don't get me wrong I still love you but I can't continue on like this if you don't have the same amount of love towards me." Moonspirit said as she exited the den. Jayfeather flopped onto the hard floor of the den. He forced his eyes shut and hoped he would see Halfmoon. After a few minutes he saw Halfmoon sitting in the foggy clearing he had been in almost a moon ago. "Give me one more chance Halfmoon!" Jayfeather pleaded. "I made a promise to you that I would give you one, and only one, moon to decide. In exactly 1 week time your chance is over." Halfmoon said. "I love you Halfmoon. You know what I want to choose but it isn't that simple." Jayfeather sighed. Halfmoos looked him in the eyes her hard eyes filled with love. "I know." She whispered. Suddenly in a flash he found himself in Starclan. Bluestar walked up to him and said, "Congradulations! You made the right decision by leaving her." "But Bluestar I haven't decided." Jayfeather corrected. "What?" Bluestar exclaimed. "You think that you can go around deciding every cat's destiny. Well not me. I decide mine. True love is a thing that you only find once. If it breaks no herb can heal it. If it disappears it's lost forever. I can't lose her forever." Jayfeather hissed. "You think we decide everything? Do think Starclan purposely killed Swiftpaw? Or Longtail? What about Mosskit? Snowfur? Do you really think that Jayfeather?" Bluestar cried. " I always thought Starclan would save everyone, everything. Now I just realized it's just a group of dead cats that just sit in the sky gorging themselves with squirrels." Jayfeather hissed. Bluefur gasped then said darkly, "Fine. If you love her so much then resign from your medicine cat duties. Just one thing Jayfeather." "What?" Jayfeather growled. "You're making the same mistake your mother did." And with that Starclan disappeared and was replaced by utter darkness. It felt as if his heart was hollow. Starclan had left him with two paths each leading to heart break.
