Jayfeather blinked open his eyes. He adjusted his eyes to the dim Star clan clearing. The starry warriors were gathered around him. Some of their faces were filled with sadness while others looked disappointed. Bluestar pushed her way out of the group of cats toward Jayfeather. "You failed Jayfeather." Bluestar said harshly. "You died because you didn't listen!" Bluestar hissed. Jayfeather stared horrified and whispered, "I'm dead?" Bluestar nodded. "You could only think about yourself when the clans needed you most." Lionheart added from behind Bluestar. "No! You can not choose what I can and can't do!" Jayfeather yowled. Bluestar's nostrils flared with anger. "I will not die!" Jayfeather said as he lay on the ground forcing his eyes shut. He felt himself leave Starclan and he returned to Thunderclan camp. He walked through the camp when he saw Brightheart. He ran up to the one-eyed warrior and said, "How is Moonspirit and the kits?" Brightheart looked at him blankly. "Answer me!" Jayfeather hissed. Brightheart started walking towards him and walked completely through him. Jayfeather realized that he was just a spirit. He ran into the medicine cat's den to see cats leaning over a body. Jayfeather approached the mourning cats to find that the body was his own. He was wrapped in bloody cobwebs and Jayfeather could tell some of his bones were broken. Jayfeather dashed over to his body and thrust himself into it. His sight disappeared and he started to cough. "He is alive!" Lionblaze shouted. Jayfeather suddenly couldn't find air. He continued to cough and he heard Brambleclaw call Leafpool. She came with herbs that Jayfeather couldn't make out. She quickly chewed some up and stuffed them down his throat. "Thank Starclan." Firestar mewed. "Never." Jayfeather croaked. "Jayfeather!" Hollyleaf mewed with happiness. She touched noses with him and licked his cheek. Jayfeather grimaced as his sister's drool dripped down his cheek. Brambleclaw walked over to Jayfeather. "I'm sorry." Jayfeather mewed. "I would've helped her but-" Jayfeather started. "No apologies Jayfeather. I know there was nothing you could have done. She saved multiple lives at the cost of her own." Brambleclaw said as he walked away in sadness. "Squirrelflight was a brave cat." Jayfeather heard him whisper as he exited the medicine cat's den. Lionblaze approached Jayfeather awkwardly. "How are they?" Jayfeather asked his brother. "Moonspirit is safe and resting in the nursery." Lionblaze answered. Jayfeather sighed with relief. "How about my kits?" Jayfeather asked. "Well, 3 of them are just fine." Lionblaze started. "What about the fourth?" Jayfeather asked through gritted teeth. "When we were fighting off the fox it carried it away. I tried to follow the fox but Firestar stopped me." Lionblaze mewed sadly. "No!" Jayfeather cried. "I'm sorry Jayfeather." Lionblaze apologized. Jayfeather tried to stand up but the pain was unbearable and he fell back to the ground. "I have a plan Jayfeather." Lionblaze whispered. Jayfeather stared intently at him. "I'll go after it. I will save your kit." Lionblaze vowed. Jayfeather nodded and asked, "When will you go?" "Now." Lionblaze said as he walked out of the den. A sweet, soothing scent replaced that of his brother's. "Oh, Jayfeather." Half Moon sighed. "Half Moon!" Jayfeather mewed happily. "Are you alright?" She asked softly as she lay next to him. Even though she was only a spirit her body seemed just as warm as any other cat. "I guess I'm alright." Jayfeather sighed. "If our kit doesn't survive, just know that I will be here for it." She mewed warmly. "Thanks Half Moon." Half Moon stood up and pressed both paws on Jayfeather. "What are you doing?" Jayfeather questioned. She ignored him and her eyes shut abruptly. Jayfeather cringed, as her paws grew uncomfortably hot. Surprisingly the pain ebbed from his wounds from his battle with the fox. He felt his broken bones align and his scratches heal. When his body seemed completely healed she removed her paws from Jayfeather's side and she sat down with a sigh. "How did you do that?" Jayfeather asked in amazement. "I've got a few tricks in my pelt." She mewed. "I've got to go." Half Moon said as she started to fade. "Wait!" Jayfeather shouted. "What Jayfeather?" She asked. "Y-y-you healed me." Jayfeather spluttered. "Indeed I did." Half Moon mewed. She disappeared completely, leaving just her sweet scent. "Looks like there is more to Half Moon than what meets the eye." Jayfeather thought to himself.
