Jayfeather leaped from his nest and ran out of the medicine cat's den. "Jayfeather!" Jayfeather heard Firestar exclaim from Highledge. He ignored his leader and sprinted out of camp. He breathed in the warm forest scents, trying to pick out his brother's. He finally found his trail charged after him. Jayfeather started to pant as he continued to sprint after his brother. Jayfeather suddenly rammed into a cat and they collapsed to the ground with a grunt. "Jayfeather? What are you doing here?" LIonblaze questioned. Jayfeather realized that he had hit his brother. "You were hurt…How-" Lionblaze started. "No time for questions!" Jayfeather snapped. "Let's save my kit." Jayfeather growled under his breath. Lionblaze nodded and started to run. Jayfeather ran after his brother, struggling to keep pace with him. They finally reached a small den near the abandoned twoleg nest. "I'll go in first." Lionblaze decided as he started to squeeze himself into the den. Lionblaze soon disappeared into the den. Jayfeather stared worriedly at the hole, waiting for Lionblaze to return. A yowl cut through the air from inside the den. Lionblaze scrambled out of the den with a limp kit swinging from his jaws. Lionblaze dropped the kit at Jayfeather's paws and whipped around to see the fox emerging from the den. Lionblaze fluffed his fur to make him look twice his size and hissed menacingly. "Run Jayfeather! Bring the kit back to the camp. Get a patrol to come here so that we can rid of this fox once and for all!" Lionblaze growled. Fire blazed in his eyes as he launched himself onto the fox. Jayfeather grabbed his kit gently and ran back to camp. His kit didn't wriggle or make a sound as Jayfeather ran. He sprinted into camp and yowled, "Firestar!" Firestar leaped off the highledge and approached Jayfeather. "We found the fox. Make a patrol. Now!" Jayfeather hissed. Firestar nodded and yowled, "Brambleclaw, Graystripe, and Dustpelt!" The three toms made their way toward their leader. "Where is the fox?" Firestar asked. "Near the abandoned twoleg nest!" Jayfeather answered urgently. Firestar, Brambleclaw, Graystripe, and Dustpelt sprinted out of camp, towards the abandoned twoleg nest. Leafpool appeared from her den and once she spotted Jayfeather and his kit she ran up to him. She grabbed the kit from his mouth and inspected it thoroughly. The young she-kits ginger fur was ruffled and had traces of blood on it. "She isn't breathing!" Leafpool cried. She started to massage the young kit's chest and rub her throat. A weak cough came from the kit. "Yes! Come on little one, breathe!" Leafpool cheered. After a few minutes Leafpool said, "She seems to be breathing properly now. You better bring her to Moonspirit to suckle." Jayfeather nodded and picked up his small kit. "Oh, and Jayfeather?" Leafpool started. "Yes?" Jayfeather muttered. "What happened to your injuries? They-they just disappeared." Leafpool said. "Love is more powerful than herbs." Jayfeather explained as he trotted into the nursery. What he said hung in Leafpool's mind, "Love is more powerful than herbs."
