Chapter 26: The Return of Garmadon
"So if you were at the Blade Cup, then why didn't you stay with us as a ninja if you knew the Serpentine's weakness?" Cole asked.
I put the uneaten pancakes in a tupperware container and tossed them into the fridge. "Well I was Garmadon's apprentice." I replied to them. "I was your enemy." Everyone gathered in the kitchen after we ate breakfast to know more of my past before I went back to Garmadon. Man does everyone like to hear this. I held my hand near the sink and water poured out of the faucet to fill the sink so I can wash the dishes. I walked over to the sink to wash while Lloyd sat on the counter next to me to dry them. "So you couldn't know I was a ninja and an apprentice to the dark lord and even my father's son. But I remembered to be your friends as a way to defeat your enemy."
"Clever move, water boy." Kai complemented after putting the clean dishes from the other day away and crossed his arms while leaning against the doorframe. I smirked at him and handed Lloyd a rinsed soapy plate to dry. "So what else happened after the talent contest?" he asked. "You weren't there to save Lloyd from the Fire Temple and volcano." Volcano? What did he do to be there?
"Or when we fought in the Serpentine lair and stole all four Fang Blades." Jay added. Man I missed out on a lot that happened to them. Not to mention when I was in the coma when Laurie was on the team.
"Or when Sensei sacrificed himself to the Great Devourer." Zane added. What?! I felt a plate slip from my hands and shattered on the floor. I slowly turned to face them to see the truth and my father nodded. I felt my hands becoming clammy and shaky and grabbed onto the sink to support myself. Cole grabbed the broom and swept the ceramic shards away from my grey socked feet. "I'm sorry." The Ninja of Ice apologized. "I thought you knew."
I shook my head clear and grabbed the washrag to clean the griddle. "It's...alright." I replied. "I wish I knew before." Why didn't anyone tell me before?
"So besides Sensei getting eaten, where were you when the Devourer was alive?" Jay asked.
I looked over my shoulder to smirk at them. "Well to answer that," I began while scrubbing the burnt chocolate off the pan. "I was there. You guys just didn't see me." They all looked at me confused. How? I turned to Jay as he was leaned against the island stove counter with his hands in his pockets of the pajama pants. "Hold still, Jay." I softly demanded and held out my hand.
He looked at me confused. As everyone else did. I blew across my hand to have beads of mist spray out and flew towards Jay. The tiny droplets of water clung onto his body to have the light waves bend around the surrounding area until he was invisible from our eyes. Everyone gasped as our brother was gone. We still could see his form and movement as he studied himself in amazement. "Whoa-oo-oo!" he screamed in amazement. "This is awesome! I'm invisible! Ha-ha!" He waved his hands and we watched slight movements as I kept concentrating. "Hey Kai, how many fingers am I holding up?! Ha-ha!"
I watched everyone's mouth drop to my powers. I couldn't help but laugh at their looks and swiped my hands out and the mist dissolved off of Jay to reveal the lightning ninja behind Cole and Nay. The earth ninja and samurai jumped in surprised to his stealth. "That's how." I said with my arms crossed. "Abracadabra. What do you think?"
"That's pretty cool!" Kai exclaimed.
"Impressive." Zane acknowledge. "Perfect for stealth missions. Very clever than the time Lloyd turned my suits pink." Oh I remembered that story. That was something to laugh at. I went back to washing the dishes and handed Lloyd another plate. "So if you were invisible, then where were you?" he asked.
I handed Lloyd another plate while he put the dried ones on the drying rack. "Well," I began to collect my thoughts. "It went like this..."
...
Days and weeks have passed after the Blade Cup contest. It's now the beginning of May. Well a week and a half, but still. Work has been the same. Logan and I work on inventory. The kids play with Storm. And I play my flute to them. And I still train my body with whatever I can use to train around here. Mainly lifting heavy boxes or chin-ups on the cherry blossom tree. Home remedies basically. I can still be broad-shouldered and athletic skinny fit as a well-trained ninja. Logan even trains with me to be like me and learn a little self-defense from me. But still wishes though that he can perform Spinjitzu. I have become from being the student to the teacher. I admire the kid's spunk to work out and train like a ninja, but the more I train, I tend to wonder if my uncle will ever return...
"Traveler's Tea." a cold, harsh, dark voice demanded. I dropped my pen as I was writing in my journal because the voice sounded familiar. Could it be?
I crept over to the doorway to the front and listened carefully. "Only a fool would request Traveler's Tea." Mystake exclaimed. I watched turn around and saw the blood drain from her face. "But you are not a fool." she said nervously while tapping on the counter. "I'll simply go get some from the back."
I watched her walk past me and I slipped through to see if it was him. I gasped as it was him. I recognized that charcoal skin from anywhere. Those red menacing eyes. That helmet with a bone as a crown to his ruling. I looked down to gasp as something surprised me. It's impossible. There's no way. My uncle has four arms. Two more limbs underneath his other arms. How did he grow or get those? Shaking, I stepped forward as he watched the small television set on the far side of the counter. "Master?" I gasped.
Garmadon turned away from the TV to stare at me. He looked surprised to see me. "Lucas?" he questioned me. I nodded like it was the day I became his apprentice. "What are you doing here and not in the Underworld?"
I looked down at the counter while tapping my fingers on the oak wood. How can I tell him this? "I sent myself into exile." I explained.
"Why?" my uncle asked.
I sighed. "Because after you left, the skeletons tried to kill me since the ruler was gone." I replied. "They don't listen to me now."
"That explains why I couldn't find you before in the Underworld." he said quietly. Before? "What happened?" I looked into his red eyes and went into the back. I came out later with my golden sai's in hand and laid them on the counter. I looked up at my uncle and felt guilt swell up as my uncle looked angry at me. "How did you get past Sherra to obtain your weapons?" he growled at me.
I looked up to furrow my brows at him. "Because Sherra is dead." I spat out. "She tried to kill me and I killed her. That's why I'm in exile to the skeletons. They didn't care that I was your apprentice and tried to kill me. And I've been here ever since."
I looked away to the TV and blinked in surprise to the news. A giant snake with a crown hood on its head and a cartilage tail tip. What was the world coming to? I watched the ninja attempt to fight it off, but nothing affected the snake. I looked at my uncle as he glared at it as if it was here. Then I realized something. "That's the snake that bit you to become evil, isn't it?" I asked.
Garmadon looked away to stare at his arms and clenched his fists. "The very one that did." he grimaced. "Evil runs through my blood and veins because of it. Every fiber of my being." He looked at my sai's to evilly grin and picked them up. He looked to the side and I peered over the counter to see a long case at his feet. It looked like it could hold a weapon. Of what? "But now I shall have my revenge. And I'll need your help."
*I looked at him surprised. He needed my help? To help the ninja. Our enemies. "Why should we help them?" I chastised. "They're our enemy and we have to help them? They can do this on their own."
"They cannot." Garmadon retorted. "I have the power to possess all Golden Weapons and can stop the Great Devourer alone. I shall have my revenge and I need your help. And that way we can take control of Ninjago. As Master and Apprentice."
I looked away to think. Why should I help them? They're the enemy and we have to help them. Where was my uncle to have this change of heart to help them? "I think you should go, Lucas." said Mystake. I looked at her confused while her arms were crossed. What was she mad about? "I have kept your secret long enough to this point. I know deep inside you have a change of heart to help them. You even told me about your promise and I think you should do it. You can't let those entire people die. Not even your father if he was there."
I thought it over and she was right. I can't let those people die in Ninjago City. My vow made me promise to protect people from danger. Even if the ninja can't do it alone, hope was lost. I looked at Mystake and nodded. "You're right, Mystake." I agreed. "My vow said that I'll protect those in need. Even if the ninja need an extra ninja. I'll do it then." She smiled at me. I smiled back. I spun into my miniature tornado to be dressed in my grey suit and threw my mask on. I looked at my uncle as he slipped my sai's into his kimono underneath the body armor and grabbed his case. "Follow me." I said and hopped over the counter and ran out the door.
We ran down the streets to reach Storm as he sensed my presence and flew down from the cave in the mountain. I heard him roar and landed in front of us. "Storm, we need you to fly us to Ninjago City." I tell him. "The fate of Ninjago would be in danger if we don't help out. We need to help now." Storm looked at me and leaned to the side for us to climb on. I jumped onto the saddle and helped my uncle climb on and gripped the reins and gave them a whip. Storm roared loudly to have the residents peer out to see the commotion as he spread his wings. My dragon gave out a running start down the mountain and sent a gust of wind to blow dust and snow as he flapped his wings to ascend into the sky. He flapped his wings around the mountain and I directed him west to Ninjago City.
Help was on its way.
...
We flew in fast pace to reach Ninjago City. Storm flapped his wings as he was the fastest dragon I know of. My uncle grabbed onto the seat as he was behind me while I flew. I kept looking over my shoulders and kept looking at the case and kept wondering about it. What was inside? Was it a weapon? Or something valuable? Or possibly both? I shook my head to focus and saw Ninjago City ahead. This was it! "My apprentice," Garmadon spoke up. "How will you keep yourself hidden from the ninja? You cannot be seen. You have better not expose yourself as a ninja as well."
I looked over my shoulder at my uncle to gulp. "O-only to a few Serpentine." I stuttered to answer and heard a growl from him, but he was right. I can't expose myself as the water ninja to my father and his students. I looked at my gloved hand to see mist spray out and hit my left shoulder to see light reflecting and saw a cloud reflection. I looked at both hands and saw an idea coming. If I can create mirages with my mist, maybe I can make the mirage of us invisible. "I may have a theory of not being seen." I simply answered and held out my hands. Mist began to spray out of my palms. We passed through a wispy cloud to help cover us in mist as I concentrated harder to make it work. We broke through the cloud and I couldn't see my hands or Storm. We were nothing. I did it. I made us invisible. As soon we became invisible, we reached Ninjago City.
Sirens blared as citizens were scattering around like ants to escape the monstrous beast. I direct Storm around the city until we saw the snake climb up on a building and saw a four-headed dragon fly over him while attacking it with its elements. Lightning. Then ice to freeze by its head. Then rammed into it to break the ice for earth. And then blew fire and the snake was starting to retreat. Just as the stark white dragon was about to land, something sprouted from the ground to hit it in the underbelly and I saw it was the snake's tail and smacked it like it was bug against the fly swatter and lay in a heap. This wasn't good at all.
I heard the case being opened and I couldn't see what was being pulled out. What was it? "Lower me down." Garmadon commanded. I directed Storm to land us on the surface. "When this is over, I want you to return to the Underworld. Is that clear?"
I watched the form flicker to normal as he was no longer invisible and the mysterious object was nowhere in sight. Where was it? I caught him staring and nodded. "Yes master." I replied and Storm and I took flight. I watched the snake slither around and noticed it was bigger than usual. What was it doing? I watched Garmdon confront the ninja and argued. I noticed in the group and saw the Green Ninja. My father has found him. I noticed he looked small as a...kid. Smaller than Logan. I watched as they gave my uncle the weapons and he ran off with them. Soon after, the ninja spilt up.
I watched the Kai run down the streets with the growing snake struggling to slither through the narrow streets. He ran into an alley after jumping off a bridge to land on a bus and then Cole popped out and took his run. The black ninja ran down the streets into a narrow alley and the snake lifted his head to see the lightning ninja on the roof. I watched the blue ninja hop around the rooftops while the ice ninja was creating an ice slide to a building under construction. I saw a flash of light and saw Jay using his True Potential to levitate to the top and both he and Zane slid down the trail as the snake crumpled the building below them. I watched as they slide down while remaining balanced and saw the four-headed dragon back up and swooping down and noticed the tail was slipping away as its head was near it. I saw what their plan was on the snake. I whipped my reins to fly beside the other dragon and directed Storm to make contact to its head with the other dragon while it saves the others.
()I flew up to what we done and smiled. Wrapped around the entire block, the snake was trapped. His tail was deep inside its throat and couldn't dislodge it. I gave out a small cheer and looked around as a question formed in my head. Now where's Garmadon? Suddenly black clouds began to form in the sky above the building where the snake was trapped and I saw Garmadon on the roof. "You are the reason evil runs through my blood!" he shouted. A lightning bolt struck the weapons to have a flash of light shake the earth and purple aura wisp off the weapons. Where were mine though? "You bit me once! Now feel what it's like to be bitten back!" I watched my uncle dove down at the snake's head. "Vengeance will be mine!" and watched he disappeared in a light. The snake cried out in pain and suddenly turned into slime and spread everywhere.
The Great Devourer was vanquished.
The cheers of people filled the air as it was gone. Doesn't matter of the slime that was spread everywhere as everyone was now safe. I watched the ninja retrieve their weapons as they were spread everywhere and ran up to my father. Where was Garmadon now? I ignored it as Ninjago was safe now to let my uncle rule it without trouble. Soon I'll be able to defeat my father and unlock my True Potential. I don't know if I'll ever see my change of heart like Mystake said before this, but who knows if that'll ever happen to me or not. Destiny will take towards the paths ahead and I'll follow them to whatever the future holds. I looked at my father one last time and direct Storm back to Jamanakai Village.
It's time to go back.
Well what did you think? Lucas was with the ninja when the Devourer was awaken. Just invisible. Oh and when you noticed that in the show Garmadon escaped with the weapons, but in order for my other stories to work, the ninja received their weapons back and used them to restore the destroyed Destiny's Bounty. Just letting you know so I don't get criticized for doing it all wrong. Anyway I hoped you enjoyed it, with the soundtracks, and see you all next week. :)
