"The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them."
-Ernest Hemingway
2 Weeks Later
TAHU'S POV
A few hours ago, I had gotten a message from Gali to meet me in Ga-Goro. So, there I was, in Ga-Koro.
I walked into the center of the village. It was a bit weird seeing the very beings we had been fighting restoring our homes, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
I stood there for a minute, until Gali saw me, and called for me.
"Tahu! There you are! I was waiting!"
"I got your message. What did you need sister?" I asked her.
"Follow me, I'll show you."
She turned around and bolted. I sprinted to catch up to her.
When we stopped, we were at the end of a newly rebuilt dock. She was peering into the water below.
"Have you gotten your mask of water breathing yet?"
My mind flashed back to a day after we became Toa Nuva. I was wondering around the volcano when I found a mask at the top of a tree, inside a bird's nest. I climbed to the top, distracted the bird, and grabbed the mask. It was actually pretty hard.
"Yes, why?" I told her.
"I'm going to teach you how to swim."
"Okay, that's-" Wait, what? "Wait, what? That's a horrible idea." I said, bluntly.
"Oh really? Then I guess you'll never get that mask of sped down there."
"Why don't you take it?" I countered.
"I already have one." She fought back.
I sighed in defeat. "Fine, I'll do it."
"Yay!" She cheered.
She hopped into the surprisingly shallow water.
"Come on in!" She called.
I waded into the a water. It was cold, but very clear. I made my way over to Gali.
"Now what?"
"Lie down on your back and float."
"That's a horrible idea! I'll drown!"
"No you won't, you have the mask of water breathing."
"I'll sink!"
"The oxygen in your body will let you float."
"Gali, that's not-"
"Tahu, you need to trust me. If you start to sink, I'll bring you back up."
I sighed, and lied down on my back. Then, I started to sink.
"Gali-"
"Wait for it..."
"Gali."
"Wait..."
"Gali!"
"Tahu! Your floating!"
I realized she was right. I screamed.
"Witchcraft! Blasphemy!"
"Science." She said.
"... ... ..."
"Turn over, and kick with your legs, while pushing with your arms." She instructed.
So I did just that. And, believe it or not, I swam forward.
She laughed. "Look at that! Your a natural!"
"I'm gonna make an argument that a Toa of Fire being a natural at swimming is not a good thing."
"Just follow me." She swam down beneath the waves. I followed her, mimicking her, to go faster.
We went pretty far down, about a kio or two. She led me to a cave, at the seabed.
"We're here." She informed. She lunged up, and me with her, into a room full of gemstones giving off a brilliant light blue glow.
"What is this place?" I asked.
"I don't know," She said. "But I do know that these are a special kind of lightstone.
"So where's the mask." I asked.
She giggled. "There is no mask."
Now I was really confused. "Then why did you bring me here?"
"To show you this place. Also, I need you alone."
Ulterior motive. I should've known. "Why do you need me alone, might I ask?"
"For this." She removed our masks.
"I see where this is going."
"Then be the man in our relationship, hothead."
I kissed her on the lips in response.
We sat down after that.
"Since were here, now about lunch?" She asked me.
"Sure." It just so happened that she had brought a lunch with her.
After that, we moved back to the surface.
GALI'S POV
"This was fun and all, Gali, but I need to get back to Ta-Koro." Tahu told me. "See you in two days?"
"See you then!" He ran off. I was about to head off to my hut when I paused. Did Tahu just ask me out?
