Silena the Spy

"Perseus! Perseus!" shouted a voice of panic. "Perseus Jackson, get up now!"

Percy turned over in his bed, groaning in annoyance as his mother kept knocking on his bedroom door. Sally kept yelling for him to get ready until Percy cut her off.

"I'm up! I'm up!" He shouted, voice still scratchy. Percy groaned, dragged his feet across the hallway and to the bathroom. After freshening himself up, Percy proceeded to the living room where Sally was already pacing around.

"Oh, good, you're up." Sally sighed. Percy noticed her distraction towards the room.

"Something wrong, mom?" He asked.

"I seem to have misplaced my keys," Sally said, adding a little chuckle towards her clumsiness.

Percy shook his head. "So how am I going to get to school? It starts in half an hour."

"Don't worry. I called Paul, he'll be willing to drive you to school –"

"What?" Percy asked. "No – I'm not showing up to school with my English teacher - " Sally responded by giving a warning glare. " – fine, fine. But what about you? How are you going to get to work?"

"I'll call in sick. Don't worry about me. Go wait for Paul outside the apartments will you." Sally instructed.

Percy rolled his eyes and walked over to Sally to give her a kiss on the forehead. Sally gave him a suspicious look. "What? I can't give my mom a morning kiss?" Percy said, faking hurt in his voice.

"The dishes better be done by tonight." Sally said firmly. Percy sighed as his attempt to get out of the garbage-dishes deal was a complete fail.

The car ride to school was awkward. Percy sat in the passenger sit uncomfortably as Paul played his classical instrumental music. Every time they reached a stoplight, Paul would give Percy a vocabulary word expecting him to spell and define it. After, Paul would continue conducting his finger in correspondence to the music. Percy stayed quiet throughout until Paul brought up a topic that took Percy off-guard.

"So, Annabeth, huh?"

"Huh?" Percy said, taking his head off the window.

"She's a bright girl. Turns in flawless work every time. It's amazing how much intelligent a young soul can have. Must be a good influence on you in terms of academics, am I right?" Paul glanced towards Percy.

"I'm not sure what you mean, sir." Percy replied hesitantly.

"Well, she is your girlfriend, right?" Paul asked.

Percy choked on his own air. "Oh – no, no. No! She's not my girlfriend. Annabeth's just my good friend."

"Hm." Paul said, eyes back on the road. A few seconds of silence passed by before Percy decided to change the topic.

"So, Mr. Blofis, about my mom…"

"Ah. Sally Jackson. I'm sorry to intrude last night. I didn't mean to cause distress between you two. I just wanted to catch up with her since college. Believe it or not, your mother and I were pretty good friends."

Percy's full attention was on Paul now. "Really? How?"

Paul took in a deep breath and paused for a moment. "I was working on a book for kids. I'm not too sure what it was about because I've given up on it before it was even finished. But whilst working on it, I remember needed illustrations and I was a terrible artist. One day, I was walking to class, and I saw this girl sitting on the bench with her sketchbook open. As I walked by, I peaked over to see what she was drawing and I couldn't believe my eyes. She was drawing a shark. But this shark had so much detail in it; I thought it was going to pop out of the book! From that moment, I knew I needed her for my book. Come to find out, it was your mother. Days passed before I reached up the courage to ask her to collaborate with me. For the rest of college, we've grown doing many projects together. Until she left with him. " Paul shook his head and cleared his throat. "But anyway, it was nice to see my old colleague again.

Percy's mind circled around questions to ask Paul but none seemed to escape his frozen lips. One question that seemed to pop up often was: Who was "him"? Could it possibly be Percy's father that Paul speaks of? But before the questions could get the best of him, the engine of the car stopped.

"We're here." Paul announced as he took his keys out.

Percy noticed that he parked behind the school even though his class is located in the front. "Um, Mr. Blofis. Why'd you park here?"

"Well if I parked in the front, people would see you coming out of their English teacher's car. I'm here to tutor you, Percy, not torture." Paul said with a slight grin and walked away.

Percy called out to him before he could get too far. Paul turned around. Percy tried to find the words to ask him about the guy that Paul was talking about earlier. "Uh-" Percy stuttered, "Um, thanks for the ride."

Paul smiled. "No problem. Now get to class, Jackson." He said with a more strict tone in his voice.

Percy entered the hallways and was greeted by the awestruck and envious eyes. But the only pair of eyes he was interested in was the grey ones located at the end of the hallway. He walked up to his locker and grabbed the things he needed for his first class. Then he closed his locker and leaned up against it, waiting for Annabeth to finish whatever she was doing behind the locker door.

"Try not to pack your whole locker, Wise Girl." Percy mocked.

Annabeth scoffed. "You better shut your mouth, Seaweed Brain, or I'll shut it for you."

"That's not a bad idea," Percy smirked.

Then Annabeth shut her locker door and there, Percy saw her with a large pair of scissors. She gave off a devilish look in her eyes and raised the scissors to Percy's lips. Percy immediately leaned back, wide-eyed. "Okay, bad idea." He said.

Annabeth put down the scissors. "Working on a project for physics." She said to calm Percy's internal panic.

"I don't suppose you're cutting up humans and using their limbs to study." A voice from behind Annabeth interrupted.

"Nah." Annabeth replied, and turned around to face a smirking Beckondorf. "That's for my biology project." Then she laughed.

Beckondorf gave Percy a look saying: she's crazy. Percy responded with a look saying: I know.

Silena soon joined in the group, giving Beckondorf a hug and small kiss in the cheek. "Hey, Annabeth." She turned to Percy and gave him a sweet smile. "Hi, Percy."

Percy and Annabeth greeted her back. "Where's Rachel?" Silena asked Percy out of nowhere. Annabeth shot her a warning look.

"I'm not really sure," Percy said with uneasiness towards the tension between the two girls. "Why?"

"No reason. I've just never met her before and considering how close you two are, she seems like a decent person to hang out with." Silena said with a soft, subtle voice.

"Well, when I see her again, I'll introduce her." Percy promised.

Silena smiled and looked at Annabeth. "Sweet."

"I have to get to class." Percy looked at Annabeth and raised his eyebrows. "See you later?"

Annabeth nodded in confirmation. Percy then left, leaving Annabeth, Silena and Beckondorf together.

"What are you doing?" Annabeth asked Silena through gritted teeth.

"Babe, how about you go on to class. Annabeth and I need to talk." Silena told Beckondorf. He did not hesitate to leave the tension between the two. "I'm investigating." Silena whispered, even though everyone was gone.

"Investigating what?" Annabeth asked.

"This Rachel girl. Most importantly, I'm finding more about her and Percy together." Silena replied. Annabeth gave her an unsure look. "Oh c'mon, Annabeth! You saw them together the other day. Something was going on and we all know that you have no intention of being the one to get into it. But I am a glad volunteer to see what those two have."

"They're just friends." Annabeth said lowly.

"That's what you think, Ms. Chase. It's my duty to prove you wrong." Silena said, excited to the fact that she has the chance to prove Annabeth wrong for once.

"This is not a good idea."

"Ah, but it is not a bad idea either." Silena smirked. "You can call me 'Silena the Spy'."
