Friends are What Makes a Plan Go Well

"We probably should held back to the Tower" I said as I finally made myself pull away after what felt like twenty hours. "Not that I'm not enjoying this, it's just, you know, we're not officially together again if we want the plan to work we should make—" Fred interrupted me with another set of kisses, It was near impossible to gain control, but finally, unwillingly I made myself stop and take a step back. Fred looked just a dazed as I felt.

"I've missed this" he said as he came over to hold my hands. "Not the making out bit, I mean, of course I've missed that too, but, you, it's never quite the same without you" he said as kissed my forehead.

"Can I ask you a question?" I asked as I stroked his arm.

"If it's going to ruin the moment, no" he said with another kiss.

"Why can't we ever just be together? Why does something always ruin it?" I asked as I pulled me into a hug.

"We let it" he said as he stroked my hair. "All of us, not just you and I; we think we're strong, we can do anything, you and Melinda have battled through competitions and destroyed a Professor, you get stuck at the Malfoys during the summer, she's stuck away from home for the year. We think we can handle it and we try and we break" he explained as I nodded and just listened to his breathing.

"You mean everything to me Freddie" I said quietly as he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and hug me tight.

"Don't know what I'd do without you" he replied.

We stayed like that for a few moments longer, finally deciding we should go when we realized it was getting close to midnight. In fact, just as we got into the common room the bell sounded midnight. "Happy Halloween Fred" I said as he nodded and headed toward his staircase.

"Happy Halloween Tamms" he said as we went off in separate directions.

I slept well that night, I didn't let myself shake Fred's comfortable tight grip or forget his wonderful scent. But I couldn't help wonder about Charity. What would happen if she found out? What happened in the past with them? I still didn't know what year she was in but I was certain she was either a sixth year or seventh. I saw her a few times last year, but I didn't remember her name specifically. She didn't stick out for any particular reason and she didn't flirt with Fred.

"You look happy" Abby said as she sat on the arm of the couch and swung her legs. I gave her a lazy smile as I hiked my bag up on my shoulder.

"Hey, can I ask you a really weird question?" I started as we headed toward breakfast, she nodded so I continued. "Would you be okay with Fred flirting with anyone as part of…a plan, of sorts?" I knew it was badly worded, she looked at me like I was crazy, but I didn't know how to explain it without giving too much away, and I didn't want to do that, the less she knew, the better.

"Does this have to do with your vision?" she asked as I shook my head.

"We're testing a theory and no, you can't help" I told knowing she was already thinking it. "By the way, Fred has made you a Weasley Apprentice. During the summers you spend many hours at their shop and learn their ways and when you finish school they'll let you run the sales." Abby's face lit up like a Christmas Tree. "Fred knew you'd be happy" I told her as I saw Melinda coming toward us. "Mornin'" I said to her as she nodded at me and then Abby.

"I'll give you two a moment" she said and then walked—skipped off.

"She seems happy this morning" Melinda started but must have noticed me smiling. "You seem happy this morning."

"It's nothing, I just, you know, spent the night with Fred" I said but quickly shook my head, knowing it came out wrong. "I mean, we walked around. I was looking for this book and he offered to come with but we couldn't find it and then were trying to hide from Flitch and his cat and we ended up making out" I explained as quickly as I could,

Well you know how danger turns him on" she said sarcastically as I swatted her arm. "Anyway, I talked to George—I don't know if Fred mentioned it, then again with all that making out—"

"Anyway…" I stressed as I tried to ignore her smile.

"He thinks we should have some sort of backup, I don't think Courtney will be very kind to us if she realizes we were purposely hurting Matt." I nodded as she finished, I hadn't really thought about Courtney's feelings.

"I'll talk to Matt" I told her as we started to enter the Great Hall but Madison was standing there talking to some kids. "C'mon, I've lost my appetite anyway" I told her as we quickly left before Madison noticed us.

"I talked to Draco too, he's on board with it, anything to make you happy, I think it really got to him when you cried" she said as we rounded a corner.

"I think it really got to him that he let me cry on his shoulder" I said trying to make light the situation.

"So, he's on board, and the others are too; Matt helped me explain to Harry, Ron and Hermione last night, he found us in the library" she explained. "I'm really trying to understand, but, I don't. I mean, I understand liking someone but, Tammie, don't get too close to him. I think he's struggling with issues within himself and I don't want you to be that person he 'needs.'" It was a sweet gesture, but something about her words made me a little annoyed but moreso a little uneasy. No, not her words, the way she said them.

"Is there anything I know about Matt?" I asked, which seemed to be a pretty point blank question but Melinda shook her head. I knew she was lying but I knew it wasn't enough to push her, so I didn't. "So, you and George again huh?" I asked as she seemed to smile brightly.

"At some point, probably after this whole plan thing" she said as I nodded. "Why did you two break up in the first place?" I asked.

"Honestly, I thought he was involved. He had been extremely distant toward me and just downright mean to you. I thought maybe he had something for Courtney" she said with a hint of embarrassment.

"As you see, you were wrong" I couldn't help but joke.

"She never Draco either, what makes us so sure she's going to be fooled?" she asked.

"Fred will be persuasive" I told her though I felt a jab to my side. "It's for the greater good, if we can find a crack in Madison's, sorry, Burnner's system we can get through and make some kind of plan" I concluded as Melinda sighed but seemed to still have her doubts.

"At least it's a better idea than last time" she decided on saying as we headed into Transfigurations.

We made it through the entire class without talking, much to my surprise but then again, if anyone could keep us on point it was Professor McGonagall. Professor Snape was good too, but, he was also a jerk. I respected Professor McGonagall and not just because she was the head of the Gryffindor house, though I fully admitted that was a large part of it.

"See you later" Melinda said as we parted, her off to her class—Ancient Ruins I believed—and me to Potions. Draco was waiting by the door as I approached.

"You're not going to start crying right?" he asked, a little reluctance and uncertainty crossing his face.

"No, I'm okay, but, Draco, thank you. I mean it" I told him as he relaxed and nodded. "I promise I will never do that again" I added as we headed inside.

"Good, you should've seen that water spot on my shirt" he said indicating the size with his hands. "But honestly, if he makes you cry like that again, I will obviate his ass" Draco in a casual relaxed tone.

"Anyway, have you heard about the plan?" I asked as he nodded. "Oh, here comes Matt" I said as Matt strolled in, started to take the seat next to me but decided to sit on Draco's left. Draco gave me a questionable look but I shrugged. I hadn't seen Matt in what felt like days, even though I knew it wasn't that long.

"Everyone's heard the plan Matt, we just have to work up to telling your sister," I said as Matt nodded but didn't seem like he had thought that part through.

During our Potions break Draco walked down the hall with me, we talked about random things, at least until we headed back, I could tell Burnner had been on his mind but he didn't seem to know how to approach it. "So, let's say we're right about this, Burnner does want to affect sibling bonds, why?" he asked.

"We didn't let her raise her sister from the dead, she's pissed, what other kind of relationships are stronger than blood?" I told him.

"I don't know, something still seems off about it, are you sure you heard her correctly, you can't bring someone back to life, if anything you get the ghost" he said as if I didn't know that.

"Well then I don't know, Draco, maybe her great great grandmother died while she was trying to kill us and blames us for not being there to say bye…" I suggested with half annoyance. "Anyway, you're okay with this?" I asked.

"She got us to bond and caused some sort of rift between the Weasley twins. She needs to go, so, why not test your theory and cause a little chaos?" I wasn't sure if it was my imagination or the lighting but I could've sworn Draco Malfoy was smiling as went back inside.

Later that evening after studying with Hermione and chatting with Ron and Harry and Matt I started up to the common room to tell Fred again that Draco was on board—but mainly to just be around him—but was quickly stopped by Lee. "Hey, can we talk later?" I asked but he grabbed my arm.

"We're talking now" he said in almost insistent tone. I squinted my eyes at him but he just shook his head. "Fred is the happiest wizard in Gringotts and I know the only reason has something to do with you. What are you doing?" he asked.

"I thought you wanted us together?" I said feeling slightly hurt.

"I do, but if you're just doing this—"

"No, I'm doing because I want him, a lot, Lee, please, I really do, I mean, I know you're concerned but, I'll take care of him," I said as Lee continued looking over me, deciding if he wanted to believe me.

"Okay, then, one question, what is all this whispering about Courtney and Madison?" he asked as let out a heavy sigh.

"You know about her being Burnner, yes?" he nodded. "Okay, well, wanted to make this plan…but, I don't think you should be involved."

"I'm already involved" he said giving me a little smile.

I sighed, realizing there was no way around it. I nodded and started to explain but then Matt came over, careful not to interrupt but leaned against the wall to listen. When I finished Lee happily agreed and we headed inside to find Fred to tell him his big role.

"She's going to know something is up" George said who had been listening from the other end of the couch.

"Not if Tammie is with her brother, she'll do it just to spite him" Fred said as turned to look at Matt who seemed more impressed that Fred said it.

"What does she have against me?" I asked but Fred was quick to continue talking so I had to listen.

"She hangs out with Charity a lot, so I could easily 'pretend' my interest has gone from Charity to Courtney" he started. "Charity won't mind if someone like Courtney, as long as it's not Tammie" he said shaking his head.

"I find it ironic how all the chicks are blonde" Lee said as I stifled a laugh.

"Anyway, this means we can't let her know we're…you know" Fred said nodding at me as his ears went red as he looked at his hands.

"You know what?" George asked looking from me to Fred.

"You know" Fred said as he gave his brother some sort of signal or sign.

"What…? Oh! Oh yes, that, yeah, no, don't do that in public" he said looking at me as I felt like my face was on fire. "How long should it take to woo her?" he asked trying to sound dramatic.

"About two weeks, three if you're really unlucky" Matt said as we nodded. "Toward the middle of November" he concluded.

"Alright, so you two go on about your thing" Fred said pointing at me and Matt. "Wait, besides Melinda, Draco, Hermione, Ron and Harry does anyone else know about us?" he asked.

"Abby, but, I'll talk to her. She won't be happy about it though…" I said.

"She's practically in charge of her own shop, she'll be fine with it," Fred insisted. I gave a reluctant sigh but nodded and listened to the boys talk about various things. The biggest surprise came when George suggested to Matt he should try out as a Beater next year for Quidditch. Matt seemed overly delighted about it, which I could understand, I was happy for him, I was happy George was coming around. Maybe him and Melinda did deserve another go. Plus I was with his brother again, the tense and stress surrounding the breakup was over. We were all okay now; with that thought I said goodnight to Matt, Lee and George, and then an awkward goodnight to Fred before running to my room and pretty much passing out.
