Chapter Two - Building the Tension – Part Two

1560 days ago we went on our 'first date' as I like to call it. After a long case, where both our respective dates didn't go as planned, we decided that a trip to Remy's for burgers, fries and a shake would do us both well. It sort of became a tradition after that night. Our tradition.

1547 days ago I discovered another one of Beckett's little secrets. She was a major baseball fan. So much that she actually fangirled when she met Joe Torre in the midst of our investigation.

1519 days ago we found ourselves in the dominatrix world. While following the investigation we found our way to a bondage shop. For some reason she knew a lot about handcuffs and bondage. From that moment I knew that she had a kinky past.

1505 days ago a case with a serial killer found its way to us. He killed in the name of Nikki Heat. Due to the nature of the crimes and the threat against her, I refused to leave her apartment that night.

1504 days ago I first made her pancakes. A small sediment to show that I truly cared about her. Our morning was sadly ruined when a body landed on her doorstep. I liked to say that would be the last time a body drop would ruin our morning, but I would have no such luck.

The killer was allusive and engraved his bullets with letters, spelling out Nikki will burn. Kind of poetic I thought. The evidence piled up as a story unfolded and our killer was caught. It wasn't till later that night that I became fixated on one small detail, the man was shot with the wrong hand. I put everything together realising that the real killer was still out there. Then it hit me. The message on the bullets, the bomb in the apartment…

1503 days ago I thought I lost her forever. I ran to her apartment, frantically calling her phone in an attempt to warn her. I watched from the street as her apartment burst into flames. I didn't even have to think twice before I ran in, kicking the door down to reach her apartment. Luckily she was safe. That was not to be the end.

1502 days ago she stayed at my apartment for the first time, upstairs in the guest room of course. We made hot chocolate that night and sat by the island and talked. That is one of my favourite memories that we have shared at the loft.

1491 days ago I thought I was cursed by a mummy, the evidence was overwhelming I must say. So in light of my panic Beckett, Ryan and Esposito decided to take it upon themselves to mess with me. I'm thankful I wasn't cursed to this day as the future was definitely worth sticking around for, no matter how short it would be.

1484 days ago the jealous side of Kate came out once again. After appearing on Bobby Mann's talk show I became acquainted with Ellie Monroe, who I started a romantic relationship with in the following days. Beckett became a little better at hiding her jealousy this time but she stated plainly that she knew that Ellie was just using him to further her career. Why was Kate always right?

1477 days ago saw Detective Demming make his way into our lives. Demming, or Schleming as I later referred to him as an unpublished character in Naked Heat, was a robbery detective that was brought up to homicide as a consultant. Demming and Esposito go way back to the 64th precinct while Demming and Kate were sparing partners.

1463 days ago one of Beckett's old friends, Madison Queller, found herself in the middle of our investigation. Maddie was a restaurant owner who invited me out to the opening of a new restaurant. Cue jealous Beckett. Beckett interrupted the date and hauled her former 'bestie' away for questioning. Beckett went into the interrogation alone, knowing that she would probably get more out of her. This might have been one of my favourite investigations of hers to watch. Maddie stood tall as Kate walked in and said 'You're hot for Castle! You wanna make little Castle babies.' Of course I heard the whole thing from behind the mirror.

1456 days ago Demming returned to consult on the case. Tom and I fought to prove our own theories right, but it was more than that. We wanted to see who could win Beckett's heart.

1455 days ago I walked around the corner to find the two of them talking. I stopped in my tracks, watching the interaction. It was then I saw them kiss and in that moment my heart broke into a million pieces. It hurt seeing them two together. It was at this time that I realised my true feelings for her, that this wasn't just a little crush. I truly cared about the amazing woman before me.

1448 days ago I was a coward. I left for the Hamptons with my second ex-wife in tow. I just needed to escape. I couldn't stay around and watch her start a new relationship with another man when had been waiting for my chance to be with her for an entire year now. So I left, with the pretence of finishing my novel, but I left not knowing whether or not I'll return.

This began the second longest summer of my life.

Please let me know what you think. Ill hopefully post the next chapter by early next week.
