Chapter 29: Leather Journal
Karen handed Lacey the notes she had kept over the years. The leather bound journal was Karen's way of protecting her son with the knowledge she attained.
"Read this." Karen rubbed her hand over the leather binding. "It is all I know of my son's life. It is how I know to protect him."
Lacey smiled as she opened the journal. "Thank you."
The words were written in Karen's delicate handwriting. Each word placed on the page read like an encyclopedia into the world Lacey had chosen to be a part of.
Male=vampires that can make other vampires or just kill others for food.
Females=at one time, they were also like the males but were too passionate as far as the male vampires were concerned. Therefore, males only began creating female immortals for their own pleasure. (Kind of like a male chauvinistic would be with attitude towards females)
Therefore, females became Beloved Immortals for the male's sexual gratification as well as for life long partners. In order to make a beloved immortal, she must drink from a maker's blood. After she drinks from his blood for a period of time, she can choose to go to any other immortal to keep her alive. But at first, she must drink only from her maker until she is strong enough to live off other immortals.
Immortals can NOT drink from another immortals blood or they die. UNLESS, they are the maker of that immortal. The maker must have drank from fresh blood before allowing his immortal to drink from him. Beloved immortals only drink from the male when he has fed earlier that night. That way she is getting some of the nourishment her immortal that has fed from humans. Beloved Immortals and Immortals crave their master only at first.
That is why Tyler wanted Daniel to drink of a fresh female before Regina was to be fed from him. She would get the blood from what he had drank. Daniel should've died because he had not taken of flesh blood from a human. He is unique. Why didn't he?
Daniel is a RARE case which can be explained as the only immortal to be born of a human and an immortal joining. He was also meant to be a purebred. Daniel would have been a vampire no matter what. He was simply born that way. His body inside my womb caused me to be a long life. I will age slowly and eventually die but slowly is an understatement as I will age over centuries rather than years.
Daniel should die in the sunlight, he should die if he drinks from old blood (Immortals) But Daniel doesn't. He is unique in this.
Immortal Beloved are merely female vampires that have a set of rules for them so they are not as powerful as the male vampires. It is only RULES made by a male vampire with great authority. If a female was brave enough, she could be as the males are.
Basically, a leader of the vampires set out rules for the vampires so there would be less chaos in their lives. but like law, the vampire that breaks the rule can be put to death.
Rule #1: No vampire is to be created under the age of 21 (Daniel became immortal at age 16)
Rule #2: NO female shall drink from fresh blood. She may drink only of her maker or another immortal who has drunken from fresh blood. (Regina has broke this law. She would be put to death if any knew of this.)
Rule #3: An immortal that creates another immortal is to be the new immortals mentor. He is to train the new immortal in his new life.
There are facts that I've known to be through my watching of the immortals' lives.
Fact #1: NO vampire shall taste of another Immortal's blood or death will come due to it being old blood and not fresh. The immortal beloved is an exception as she is only allowed to drink from a vampire who has came fresh from a feeding. She will die if she drinks from an immortal that has not recently killed or fed. (Daniel is an exception...thus, he is dangerous to both mortals and immortals)
Fact#2: Animal blood can not satisfy a vampire. They will die without feeding off of a human.
Fact#3:Sunlight kills immortals no matter how long they have lived. (Daniel is exception)
Fact #4: Immortals can die by burning, a stake driven in the heart, sunlight, drinking from the old blood of another immortal, or decapitation.
Fact #5: Immortals are quicker than humans. They have similar to super speed.
Fact #6: Immortals are stronger than humans.
Fact #7: Immortals have the power to hypnotize
Fact #8: Immortals have the power to seduce (Daniel has more power than other immortals with this.)
Fact #9: Immortals are beautiful creatures (Once again Daniel has more power than other immortals with this.)
Fact #10: Some of the more powerful immortals can read thoughts of others. That includes both immortals and mortals. It comes with age and power of the vampire. (once again, Daniel is stronger in this than should be.)
Fact #11: Immortals can only be created by another immortal offering of his blood to a mortal bitten. It is a seducing thing and the immortal gives his own blood as he drinks through his fangs.
Fact #12: It has recently been noticed that my son has created his first immortal. (his immortal beloved) However, it is strange that neither seem to be craving blood of the other. This is according to his beloved immortal, who says she has only tasted of Daniel once and he the same of her. They have been together for over two weeks.
Lacey read over the words realizing that Danny was an exception to many of the rules. She realized that due to his uniqueness, Danny was in danger. Mortals would never accept the undead. Immortals would never accept his power over them. Lacey bit her lip as her heart ached for the man she loved. His years of loneliness had to be endured until he met her.
"Are you still avoiding me?" Danny sauntered up to sit by Lacey. "Mother informed me you were here. She said you were studying up on immortals."
"I am." Lacey smiled revealing her dimples. "On both accounts. It is difficult being around you and not wanting you."
"As I've stated before..." Danny winked as he leaned back. He crossed his ankles . "I see no problem with that."
Lacey nudged Danny's shoulder. "I'm sure you don't."
"What do you have there?" Danny nodded to the leather bound book in Lacey's hands.
"Your mother gave it to me to read so I could understand more." Lacey handed the leather bound journal to Danny. "It is her notes throughout the years."
Danny ran his thick fingers across the soft leather. His lashes fluttered as he stared down at the journal. "I can't believe all this time I thought Victoria and Rajah were my parents. It is strange to know all these years, Karen has lived to protect me."
"Yeah. I am kind of taken aback by all of this too." Lacey glanced at Danny. "I am centuries old like you."
A small giggle escaped Danny's lips. "At least I'm not a perverted vampire."
Danny opened the book after that. His eyes landed on a certain passage that Karen had written.
Immortal are bound to kill my son and his beloved immortal if he is the legend that all think he is.
I believe this to be true. His father, Amar, agrees. We both will protect Danny and Lacey with out lives.
However, I am not sure when the immortals will attack. I only know that they will. Vikram's death was a warning to us all.
Through her, Daniel will gain strength and power to stop immortals from existing.
Without reading anymore, Danny ran down stairs to talk to his mother. Lacey looked confused but remained sitting on the antique sofa. She breathed out slowly trying to take in the reality of what her life was. He returned to Lacey with a look of fear on his face.
"I need you to get a hold of Jo Masterson." Danny bent down in front of Lacey. "We must go somewhere."
Danny's hand slid eagerly over Lacey's back. Her body quivered at the simple gesture.
She stared over at him. "Danny, where are we going?"
"I need to keep you safe, Lace." Danny struggled as the sun beat down on him. "They'll come for you. I need to get you to safety."
"Who will come for me? What are you talking about?" Lacey stopped walking. She grabbed Danny's hand to pull him to look at her. "Tell me."
"The immortals." Danny raked his hand through his hair. "They know about you and I. They want you dead before we conceive a child."
"Hold up." Lacey rolled her eyes. "We're seventeen. There will be no conceiving."
Danny sighed out before grabbing her shoulders. "Listen, Lacey Porter. I am well over four hundred years old..."
"Would that make you a pervert for being a seventeen year old girl?" Jo stated facetiously. Both Danny and Lacey turned to peer at her. "What? Just sayin'. "
"Lacey isn't a seventeen year old girl." Danny pulled Lacey to continue walking. "Mother has made arrangements to help us. We have to hurry before the sun sets. She said she can not find Amar, my father."
Jo picked at her fingernails. "Rico was right. Isn't it funny? I'm not even afraid. I think I'm as weird as you both. Here I am with a witch and vampire letting them lead me to the woods. I must be suicidal."
"What if the immortals killed him?" Lacey questioned as her and Jo followed behind Danny. She ignored Jo's little quips. Although, it didn't make sense how easily the girl was following them. "Ummm. Did you hypnotize Jo?"
"No. I did not. They would never kill a descendant of a Desai." Danny took deep breath. "It would be too dangerous for the immortals. They would only kill you and me. Not a Desai that is not the legend. There are too many that still respect Amar. That is why they want you dead before you have my child."
"This is so ..." Lacey continued to be pulled along with Danny. "You can have children with other women if I'm dead."
Danny stopped trying to think. He made Lacey and Jo sit on an old cobble stone wall. "I have only fallen in love once, Lacey. Of all the years spent on Earth, I have never loved until you. Can you not see that I made you the destined one when I fell in love? There is only one female that can have a pure bred child within our family. There is only one Desai that has that honor each generation. I am that guy. That is why there are few pure breds. I haven't found love until you. I am sorry to say that I made that your destiny when I decided to love you."
"What if they think I'm the one?" Jo shrugged. "They see you with me all the time. What if.."
"You're safe." Danny breathed out. "Your a descendant of my brother John Desai."
Jo laughed. "Yeah because I have the markings of an Indian." Jo pulled at a strand of her hair. "Blonde hair, blue eyes. Duh."
"My brother married my betrothed Josephine Marie Masterson. They bore two sons. Those sons bore more sons. Eventually a female named Annaleigh Desai was born. She married a distant cousin, who was a Masterson. That is where your father's family line comes from. Needless to say that most of my brothers children and grandchildren preferred blondes. Eventually, the dark features were no longer dominant. Jo Marie Masterson, you are a descendant of my brother."
"So that makes you my great..great..great..I can go on with the greats..uncle?" Jo teased. "And my dad's uncle too."
"Precisely."
"No wonders I never found you attractive." Jo grinned widely. Both Danny and Lacey stared at Jo like she had a third eye. She held up her hand. "Okay. Okay. I, like every female that breathes, find you attractive. But that explains why I never wanted to." Jo stood up and made thrusting motion with her body.
"You are a vulgar thing. Aren't you?" Danny exhaled slowly. "So much for the family line having carried on with class."
"Thanks, Uncle Danny. Makes sense why I'm not freaking out too. It is in my blood." Jo shrugged as she looked at Lacey. "Well, lets get your lover here to safety. As it seems, Lacey is the only one to keep class in our gene pool."
"Are you okay?" Lacey stared at Danny. "Do you need to feed?"
"Hold up one second." Jo crossed her arms over herself. "Ya'll don't be doin' that whole sucking the blood thing."
"I haven't taken of Lacey's blood since..." Danny stopped as he watched Lacey give him a quick look. "..for a while now."
"So you are surviving on my blood alone from when we..." Lacey lowered her voice despite Jo being able to hear. "...we made love the first time."
"Precisely." Danny pulled Lacey up. "We need to go. I have to get you hidden before night falls. The Immortals will awaken from their slumber then."
They all trudged along the wooden area making their way deeper into the forest. "Mother said it would be safe in an old cottage in these woods. There are plants that cause the immortals not to smell of my blood or any mortal's blood."
"So, do you sleep in a coffin?" Jo continued along behind the two lovers.
Danny kept walking as he held tightly to Lacey. "No. That is a myth. Why in the world would an undead want to sleep where the dead must lie?"
Jo shrugged as the made their way deep into the woods. "Who knew that Green Grove had a forest this big?"
"We're here." Danny sighed in relief due to the excruciating pain of the sun beating down on him. "This is the place Mother told me about."
"It is well hidden." Lacey bit her lip as she looked at the cottage covered in ivy. "If you weren't given directions to this place, no one could find it."
The trio made it inside as they pushed the ivy aside. Immediately, they noticed how well kept the cottage was despite the old antique furniture.
"This will be our home, Lacey." Danny pushed back Lacey's hair. "Jo will be your here to provide your needs as I try to find a way to stop the immortals and find my real father."
"I'm reduced to a servant now." Jo crossed her arms over her chest. Danny and Lacey both stared at her. "Fine. I can do that."
"I also need you to contact Rico for me." Danny made a heavy sighing noise. "We may need him to help battle the immortals."
"You're an immortal, Danny. I am supposed to be one despite not feeling like it." Lacey pushed back her hair from her shoulder. "I'm just reminding you."
"I know this." Danny raked his hand through his hair. "But we will need his companionship. Jo will have to be our link to the mortal world for a while. We can not chance ..." Danny got to his knees to stare at Lacey. "I can not chance losing you."
