Bozeman

My phone chimed. Somehow, I knew it was Edward. Four days without a text from him wasn't out of the ordinary, but when they were the four days since you drunk texted him, it felt like forever.

There were no words, just a picture of a freeway sign to Wisconsin Dells.

I knew there were waterparks there; maybe he was letting me off the hook. The confirmation that my crush was indeed one-sided hurt. But I'd rather have my friend back than not have him at all.

Cool, have fun.

I threw myself on my bed, sobbing into my pillow.

That evening, I received another text from him. Still no words. It was another freeway sign, this one marking Saint Cloud.

Great. He was on a Midwest road trip, sending me pictures along the way. That was just the quirky kind of thing he'd do.

I wished I were with him, playing silly road games, even if it was only as his friend.

Find one that starts with a B ;)

I held my phone in my hand for hours, waiting for his reply or even a freaking sign starting with the letter "B" before I cried myself to sleep.

I pried open my tear-crusted eyes at the sound of a text alert late the next afternoon.

It was another photo of a sign, this one for Bozeman.

My heart raced as I realized two things.

Bozeman started with a "B."

And Bozeman was in Montana.

He was heading west. Edward was coming home.

I tapped his contact icon to dial his phone. It went straight to his voice mail.

Call me.

I got nothing; no calls, no text, no picture. Nothing. I wanted to throw my phone in frustration and hug it to my chest at the same time.

A knock at my door irritated me. I was trying to estimate where Edward might be, calculating his average speed based on when he sent the pictures and his carrier's cellular coverage map. I really didn't have time to deal with anyone.

I huffed, ready to tell the person behind the door that I already had or believed whatever they were selling, but they weren't behind the door.

Edward was.

He practically rushed me, cupping my face with his hands and walking me backwards until my back hit the wall.

He rasped, "We can't be friends," and kissed me senseless.

He released my lips to catch his breath and pressed his forehead to mine

"You should still be in Idaho."

His smiled and chuckled. "I had to hitchhike, so I delayed sending the pictures for a day or so. But you knew I was coming?"

"Not until Bozeman."

"God, it was perfect when you asked for that."

"I love you…I'm in love with you, Edward."

"I left because I thought I couldn't have you. I couldn't watch you and not have you anymore." He wiped away my tears with his thumbs. "Please don't cry. I love you, Bella. Always have."

A schoompy flash presented in five, one hundred word drabbles. I miss the drabbles.

Thanks to Geeky for fixing her up and maxandmo the twitter girls for cheering me on. There should be one more today. ;)
