Chapter 7 - The Hidden Betrayals

Sometimes it's not the people who change, but the masks that fall off.

Skye

We traveled through the thick forest growth for several hours before we came upon a secluded cabin. I was thankful that Aidan had not stirred during the ride, I can only imagine what these monsters would have done to keep him quiet. Ward was tensing at every bump in the road while we drove however I couldn't hold his hand as they handcuffed them behind his back. All I could do was touch his arm and look at him in whatever way I could, whether it was fear or shock or any emotion in general, I didn't care, as long as he gave me his reassuring look back then I knew everything was gonna be okay.

At one point in the trip I asked, "Ward, do you know what's going on?"

He looks at me like he wants to know but shakes his head and said, "No."

"Shut up back there," the guy driving yells.

While the other guy in the passenger seat turns and points a gun towards us before saying, "Or I'll make you." Then he turns around as if nothing happened.

They ushered us out of the car at gun point, Ward first, to make sure he didn't pull any tricks I guess, and then me and Aidan before motioning us towards the cabin. Inside we were ushered in what looked like a living room area and were pushed towards the couch where we sat and waited for a good half hour at gun point before we heard a car pull up.

I heard the heavy footsteps as the person I assumed was behind all of this walked in. But the last person I expected it to be was Agent Garvin.

What the hell was going on?

Ward

"Agent Garvin, what the hell is going on?" I growled. "What is the meaning of this?"

All he does is motion his head to the side and the trigger happy guy beside me hits me on the side of my face with the gun he was pointing at me. I spit the blood no dripping from my mouth towards him and then look back to Skye, who let out a squeak when I got hit, to know that I'm fine and then glared back at Garvin.

"You do not get to speak to me like that," he snarls at me. "Because of you that thing wasn't eliminated with Jackson when I had him! You and your stupid team sent him running, so I never could get the job done!"

"What are you talking about? You had no idea that there was a child or that Jackson was going to run."

"Oh, really? Who do you think gave the tip off that Jackson was acting suspicious? Just think with that big brain of yours for once in you life."

"Wait? You? But why? If you wanted him so badly then why not go after him yourself?"

"Because I didn't plan it properly, it was too late when I found out that child wasn't mine and then I saw red." He states. "I wasn't able to get to them up close but you did, didn't you Agent Ward? And it seems like you got a little too close with the brat as well."

"Wait, what do you mean not your child?" Skye asked eyeing Garvin closely waiting for some sort of reaction.

Garvin was ranting on and on and now looked like he was going to snap at any moment.

"I treated him like a normal person, treated him as my friend. I brought him into my home and introduced him to my wife, I treated him like family. And how does he repay me?" He's getting very agitated now. "By sleeping with my wife! And you know what else happened, he got her pregnant"

Skye gasps almost realizing what kind of situation he was in and what that had put us in.

"I was so, so excited at the thought that I was finally going to get the child that I craved," Agent Garvin continues. "To have the family that I've always wanted but as soon as I saw that kid I knew it wasn't mine. Do you want to know how? It didn't look like me or my wife. No, it just had to looked like HIM!"

"You did all of this just for revenge?" I asked incredulously. "You can't seriously think about hurting Aidan, he is just an innocent child."

Garvin was going to lose it any second now and just as I predicted he did.

"No, it isn't. This all started over that thing and now I'm going to finish it!" He exclaimed and went for Aidan.

He grabbed Skye by her bad arm making her scream in pain and jerked Aidan making him start to cry, I tried to get up but was hit over the head again and shoved back.

Please, god don't let it end like this.

Coulson

"He's going for the baby," I state. "May, take him out. Task Force move in and breach."

From my position under the thick growth I watch as the team disbands of the men outside and breach the cabin, while May takes a successful shot at Agent Garvin and the man holding the gun at Agent Ward through the window from beside me.

I instantly head towards the cabin once the area was secured. When I entered I see Skye clutching a crying Aidan on the floor and Ward trying to comfort both of them. Agent Gavin is handcuffed and a few of his men and is being shoved outside toward the cars that are being drive up to the cabin. I can't help but smirk at the sight of his blood seeping through his clothing on his shoulder and know that there is definitely going to be permanent damage as it was a shot by May.

When Ward sees me he instantly stands.

"I should've known," he said. "But how did you find us?"

"Fitzsimmons were able to get your GPS signal up and running again," I explained. "Your just lucking they brought the car with them instead of dumping and burning it. Now lets get you guys back on the BUS. Fitzsimmons misses all three of you."
