A/N: I'm really sorry it took me so long to get back to writing this fic, but I hope this chapter will make up for the wait and I'll try not to take too long brakes from now on.

Chapter Six

"I have no idea how you are able to put up with this man's ego on a daily basis."

Will entered the kitchen looking even more exhausted then he had been when he'd arrived home about two hours ago.

"Here, drink this," Diane offered the glass of Scotch she'd poured for him, having anticipated this very reaction after his talk with Eli.

Will downed the glass in one go and continued where he'd left off.

"I'm serious, how do you not want to jump out the window after spending an hour with him?" He sounded more than frustrated and now she regretted that she hadn't sat in on the meeting to witness what caused Will's current state.

"I don't know, maybe it's because I'm thinking of you and the kids," she said, half jokingly, because she was unable to take his question seriously.

"Who does he think he is? Why does he think he can put words into my mouth? I know how to express myself, thank you very much." Diane had to suppress a laughter noting that her husband's ego was just as healthy as her campaign manager's.

"You shouldn't work yourself up over this, he's just trying to help," she ventured to calm him.

"When I agreed to give this interview I didn't realize it came with this kind of prep work. And the way he talked to the kids, didn't you find it over the top?" Will continued to criticize Eli, so Diane felt the need to start defending him.

"Maybe a little, but he wants them to take it seriously," she pointed out, but Will seemed to disagree.

"Now they think their mom hired a controlling, overbearing dictator," he burst out and she looked at him stunned.

"I think you are the only one who thinks that," she answered silently, hoping Will would realize it was time to stop and indeed he did.

"I'm sorry, I was out of line. He just really pushed my buttons," he apologized and poured himself another drink that he downed right away.

"I can see that," she found the situation a little amusing, but didn't dare to laugh at him.

"I just … I miss you. The office isn't the same without you." His confession was a bit confusing to her.

"You said everything's going well," she reminded him of their talk at lunch.

"It is, but no one can replace you," he admitted and she couldn't deny how good it felt hearing that. She knew she wasn't really irreplaceable and she wanted things at the firm to go well in her absence, but she also wanted him to miss her, simply because she missed him too.

"I miss you too, you know that," she told him softly, "but this is my dream and with Vicky in the race my campaign needs to be even better now. Don't you want me to win?"

"Of course I do," he reassured her with a supportive smile and she didn't doubt his honesty.

"So you have to understand why I need Eli," she brought them back to their previous topic.

"I understand," he nodded and he didn't sound tense or angry anymore, he sounded like he really meant it.

"Good, and since you said you miss me," she folded her arms around his neck with a grin on her face, "I was thinking when Sarah comes back this weekend, we could leave the kids with her for a day and go away, spend the night somewhere, just the two of us." It was a sudden idea, but she thought they really needed a treat like this after this first week apart and who knew when an opportunity like this would present itself again.

"Where do you want to go?" Will inquired and his beaming face revealed that he liked the idea already.

"Maybe we could go to a spa," she suggested with hesitation and his expression changed a little hearing the last word. "I know you are not a fan of them, but we could get a couples' massage, we'd be wearing little clothes all day. You need to relax too," she tried to get him on board with what she thought was the perfect getaway idea, and he didn't seem to need much convincing.

"All right, I'm sold," he answered.

"Now we just need to convince Sarah," she pointed out, happy about his reaction.

"I dare her to say no after we took in Mimi for a week," he declared with a serious expression.

"You poor thing, you barely spent time with your niece all week," she teased him, because it really wasn't such a huge sacrifice as he made it look.

"I was watching Ice Age with her," he tried to defend himself, but she started to laugh.

"You fell asleep halfway through," she reminded him.

"It was just a power nap," he insisted.

"Of course," she replied with an understanding smile.

"I'll go and play with her right now," he wanted to pull away, but she wouldn't let him.

"There's no need for that. She is playing some video game with Nat," she felt comfortable in his arms and wanted to stay there as long as she could.

"See? I'm not needed," he responded, a satisfied grin on his face.

"I'm sure Nat will have enough of her in a short time and he'll come screaming for help," Diane chuckled, knowing well that her son had very little patience with his cousin, but she gave him points for trying.

"So what do we do until then?" Will challenged her with a seductive look, but she brushed him off quickly.

"Aren't you hungry?" she wanted to pull away now guessing what was on his mind, but Will refused to let her out of his arms.

"I am, but probably not the way you think," he leaned closer and placed a kiss on her neck, then glanced at her face to catch her reaction. When Diane rolled her eyes, he added, "you made me imagine you in a bikini, it's your fault."

"Hold that thought until later," she kissed him on the lips, but moved away just as quickly and this time he didn't stop her.

She knew better than to risk their son catching them doing what Will had in mind. Somehow they had escaped this embarrassing moment most parents go through so far.

But she couldn't help imagining what could have happened if she had given in to him. She could have pushed him on a chair and sat in his lap and his hands would probably already have opened the zipper of her skirt by now. She would have grabbed his tie to be able to unbutton his shirt and thrown it on the floor after unfolding it. He would have pulled her blouse out from under her skirt and his hands would have wandered up on her skin to the clasp of her bra.

A noise from outside interrupted Diane's chain of thoughts, it was the sound of steps down the stairs and soon they heard Nat call for his mother.

"In here," she replied and glanced at Will, who was already sitting at the table.

"Could you please take Mimi now, she's driving me crazy," Nat begged her and Diane wasn't the least surprised her prediction had been so accurate.

"Tell her to join us, your dad offered to entertain her after dinner," she turned to Will, who nodded in agreement.

And the idea for them to spend some quality time together this weekend was even more appealing now.
