For the rest of the night, they sat there in silence. Although Sesshomaru wanted nothing more than to speak to her, to tell her something, anything that would mend the strained air the followed him. Even now, he couldn't breathe. The oxygen refused to flow into his lungs, leaving him with no way to think, no way to communicate his horrid insides to her. He was sure she would want to take their Kaori and leave.
He looked down to the little bundle, who'd crawled onto his lap during her slumber.
The scars he'd left on her would always be there, they would never close, and forever would they bleed…he could not stop that pain, nor the blood that pooled through, but at least…he wanted to be the one to place the plaster over the open sores, and bruises. He wanted nothing more than to change the sullied patches of skin, to make it beautiful again, as it had once been.
He looked to his side to see Kagome, as the sleep had taken her.
She cried in her slumber.
"Nightmares," Sesshomaru looked above, wondering if she dreamt of him as she slept…Maybe even now, as she cried silently, she dreamt of him, "Dreams of a demon…"
Slowly, he leant to his side, closer to Kagome, the closest he'd ever been to her in so long. He gave a solemn look, starring at her sleeping face and touched her hair. He glided his fingers through the raven locks, noting it's length…she'd let it grow. He wanted to hold her hand, as it beckoned for his touch.
He pulled away.
Picking up Kaori, and bending over to place a feather light kiss on her cheek, he looked at her once more, touching his lips, looking at her once more.
"I'm sorry…"
He walked out the living room to set Kaori to bed…Kagome opened her eyes, tears slipping away soaking spots where her head lay.
