I Just Can't Wait To Be King
*Scar's POV* (Miss him?)
Here I am walking along the back of Pride Rock in the shadows and I am so ready to relax and plan how to kill my brother along with his I'll take my beautiful Sarabi as my queen. Hey, I sound like I have issues, if you don't like it then maybe I'll throw you off a cliff. If anyone of the pride protests, then they may "accidentally" fall off a cliff.
"Hey Uncle Scar, guess what?" Great! Just who I hate but needed to see, my annoying little nephew, Simba. Based on the look on his face, I am guessing he just got back from seeing the kingdom with his father and brothers.
"Oh I would be jumping with anticipation, but well, bad back you know. " I said with mock enthusiasm as I waited for him to tell me the things that I have died to brag about at his age. I sat on my haunches and listened.
"Dad told me that one day I am going to be king," He walked over to the edge and then turned back to me and said, "And this will be all mine." The pure joy in his voice obviously showed his enthusiasm to be king. Wait! Did he just say he would be king?
"You? Don't you mean you or Kopa's?"
"That would have been the case Uncle, but Kopa says he wants me to be king because he thinks I deserve it, and so does Malka." I scoffed at the thought of the false prince Malka giving this runt the throne when he had no right to it, but was surprised that Kopa would give up the throne despite his obvious enthusiasm for it at his age. Hell at any age power is enticing, and no one knows this better than myself though I tried so hard to suppress.
"Well if he is ok with it, I guess congrats little nephew." I patted him on his head and I already saw him make a grumpy face at calling him little, he never liked being called that. Best to change the subject and maybe throw in some of my plan as well. "So your father showed you the entire kingdom did he?"
I saw his face brighten up, "Yeah. He showed me everything before he had to deal with the hyenas." I saw his face fall a bit at that while I hid a small smile. So the hyenas were here eh? If I know my brother he chased them out again and so they should be mad and hungry, they'd kill practically anything for a meal like say… a cub? Oh, and I'll need to remember to tell Zira to stay away. This would be the worst time for her to get caught, especially at the Boneyard. I don't need Mufasa taking my daughter, yet another thing away from me.
"What about that area over there along the earth Pride border?" I saw his ears perk and I knew right there I got him.
"Well no, he says it is too dangerous for me." Time to milk it a bit on my part.
"Well he is right Simba! Only the best and bravest benders go there." I saw him get a little pouty and I knew I had him. This is almost too easy.
"Well I am brave and I am theAvatar! So tell me what's out there?" He got into a challenging pose and I chuckled inside. What a dumb cub. I swear he could be convinced of anything.
"I am sorry Simba, but I can't tell you. I wouldn't want you to get hurt." I half gagged as I said the last bit. I could care less if this little brat took a long walk off Pride Rock's short peak, but I will not give that away any time soon so I mocked a caring tone.
"Come on Uncle Scar! Please?" He gave me the sad angel look and I had to admit he does act a bit like me, I tried that a lot with my mother and father and it often worked, too bad I know his tricks.
"I am sorry Simba but I have to look out for the favorite nephew." I saw him scrunch his face as I put my paw on him again.
"Uncle Scar, you have three nephews and I am not that important."
"Well actually I do Simba. A Bender's Boneyard is no place for a young prince or avatar. OOPS!" I placed my paw over my muzzle in mock shock and then smiled behind it as I saw a smile reach his face as he heard the last part.
"A Bender's what? Whoa?"
"Oh my, what have I done? Well I am sure you would have figured it out, you being so clever and all. You want to hear more?" I saw him nod his head fiercely and decided to really draw him in.
"Well it goes back to the times of Mohatu. After his death, many argued that the successor to his title as king should be someone who earns it in combat. This way the king and your grandmothers mate would be the most powerful bender and be in control of elemental disputes while the search was on for the next Avatar. So many strong lions capable of bending the four elements gathered in that battleground and fought for many days and nights. Some herd creatures also wanted to make it clear that they were better than the lions and battled to prove their superiority. In the end, only four benders walked away from it alive while the bodies of many a lion, elephant, gazelle and other creatures littered the grounds. No successor was chosen and much blood was shed.
"Why was no one chosen?"
You see, your Grandmother Uru ordered for the fighting to cease when she had chosen Ahadi as her mate and explained to the combatants that it would not honor her father's memory by killing each other. They say, if you go there and delve deep into the center and come out without an ounce of fear, then you are considered a full-fledged lion and/ or bending Master."
"Wow!" I saw that my actually truthful story hit home with him and I knew he wanted to give it a try.
"Have you done it uncle Scar?" I was a little humbled he would ask me that and so I was nice and answered him.
"I have Simba. I went in and came out a stronger lion almost a year ago." What this little cub doesn't know is that when I came out, I killed my father who had been unaware of my presence there. Good times, Good times, I thought as I reflected on the warm memory of my father's last breaths.
"Thanks for the story Uncle Scar." I saw the fire in his eyes and I knew he was ready for his adventure so I pulled him close.
"Well Simba, just promise me that you will never visit that terrifying place."
"Oh, Ok." I saw him get a little sad, but I knew he would be causing trouble soon. The plan is in motion.
"And Simba," I saw him look back at me as he walked away and I added "Remember, it's our little secret." I watched him walk away and I thought to myself. I hope Shenzi and her friends like cub. Finally I burst into laughter after holding it in so long.
*Simba's POV*
I am running down Pride Rock filled with absolute excitement. I cannot wait to go to this Bender's Graveyard. It sounds so cool. Only I should bring someone with me, being the generous prince I am and I know just
the cub. I kept running and then I found my friends and family. As I approached I noticed that Malka and Kopa were wrestling and Mom was asleep, so I probably could get away without a bath. Then, I saw Nala, the cub who I hoped to share in my adventure. She always made them so more exciting. Too bad she is getting a bath from her mother. I know she will love what I have planned.
"Hey Nala. hey Bros." I walked into the small area and stopped just in front of my bathing friend.
"Hi Simba." Her voice is so angelic. Like a bunch of birds singing in perfect harmony during a sunrise scene.
"Hay Simba, tell Kupa here that water always beets fire, even when we're not bending" I saw Malka say as he shoved off Kopa only to be pinned down again. When will he learn that no one can beat Kopa? I swear he will be even stronger than Dad when were older, if thats even possible.
"Come on Nala, I just heard about this really cool place.!" I immediately saw her eyes sparkle, but her face contorted with irritation. How that is possible to express two different emotions? Then again don't ask me, ask a female.
"Simba, I am kinda in the middle of a bath. A lioness must always look her best." I saw her mother clean her back side with her tongue and then I heard something behind me. UH OH, not again!
*Sarabi's POV*
"It is time for your bath too." I saw him try to run, but I quickly grabbed his scruff which paralyzes a cub's body and in Simba's case blocks his bending till he is done. I began running my tongue along his head and I noticed he got irritated right away.
"Mom! You're messing up my arrow. It is always looking proper so you should avoid that area when bathing me." Really? Does he think I would fall for such a lousy excuse to get out of a bath? I don't think so!Besides, just because he has a little marking on his forehead does not mean he it can't get dirty.
"Not a chance." I smiled as I saw him get a pouty face as I continued to lick him clean and finally after admiring my handiwork, I let him go.
"Ok Ok! I am clean, can we go now?" I can already see I hit his pride by bathing him. Well, too bad cause like it or not, Uru told me that it is practically a tradition with mothers and their sons in this pride. I intend to stay true to this quirky tradition.
"So where are we going? It better not be someplace dumb like antelope grazing area." I chuckled as I heard Nala say that, remembering the time those two were racing each other to get to those very spots.
"No, no, It is really cool." Based on the tone of my son's voice, I can tell he was planning to go somewhere dangerous and more importantly a place I would not approve of. Being the sneaky lioness I am, I decided to question my son.
"And where is this really cool place?" I saw him fumble as I asked him and I already knew he was going to try to lie to me. Let me see what he comes up with.
"Oh, it's uh… around the waterhole." I raised my eyebrows at this and then got a little skeptical with myself. Maybe he has a surprise planned for her and hopes to lure her there. I bet he found a place where they can play the games cubs play, but he will have the advantage.
"The Waterhole?" Nala already seemed annoyed and I could tell it was because the waterhole did not seem interesting, not that I blame her. She lives behind a spectacular waterfall, so a pound must seem so plain. "What's so great about the waterhole?"
Even though he was trying to be discrete I could clearly hear my son hiss to Nala, "I'll show you when we get there!" I then saw a look of realization hit Nala's face and I knew it was because she knew he had something else planned. Well I do not plan to let them go without a little supervision.
"Mom, can I go with Simba?" I saw Sarafina look at me and I knew she had the same thoughts in her mind about where they were going so I decided to tease the cubs a bit.
"Well…." she started. I saw them walk up to me together and I already knew what was coming.
"PLEASE?" Yep. I knew it. The big wide eyed and angelic please trick. Taka and me, we patented that when we were cubs. But since I am feeling generous, I will let them go a bit, and I must admit, adorable.
"It's alright with me…" I saw them jump up and down in victory, now to crush that victory a bit. "as long as Momo goes with you!" Me and Sarafina laughed inside as we saw them stop and droop their ears.
"No, not Momo!" It is so much fun being a mother.
*Nala's POV*
"Step lightly. The sooner we get to the water hole, the sooner we can leave. I have more important things to do than babysit two immature cubs." I swear this lemur bat is going to get it when I am full grown.
I decided to distract myself from thoughts of a boring time with Momo by talking to Simba.
"So Simba, where by the water hole are we really going?" I saw the 'Simba' smirk run across his face and I already knew it was something fun.
"A Bender's Boneyard." My eyes widened as he said those words. This is going to be awesome.
"WOW!" I almost shouted until I saw Simba give me a grumpy look. Excuse me?
"Shh!" How dare he shush me? "Momo will hear you." OHH! So he was trying to keep us off the Major buzzkill domo away from our plans.
"Sorry. So how do we ditch the flying rat?"
"Well I was thinking…" He started to tell me his plan and I already liked it until we heard Momo fly down and interrupted us.
"Oh just look at you two. A wave and gust of wind connecting here on the savannah. Your parents will be thrilled, what with you being betrothed and all." For once, Iactually paid attention to the little rodent. What did he just say?
"Be-what?" Simba asked Seeing Simba's eyes expand like a ripple water, It is clear he is also taken back. Is he thinking what I am thinking the word means?
"Betrothed. Intended. Affianced." This rat keeps losing me.
"Meaning?" I saw the little lemur chuckle under his breath and I raised an eyebrow at this. Is there something funny about my question?
"One day you two are going to be married!" I felt myself get weaker and was breathing heavily with shock. MARRIED? I at first seemed repulsed by it, after all he is my best friend, but then I looked at Simba.
I then start to recalled how much we have in common. We already spend everyday together and I have never slept better, not to forget feel more secure than that afternoon in the cave when we had to wait out that thunderstorm. Of course I moved as soon as I realized what happened before he woke up and saw me nuzzled up beside him. And certainly not least, he is sorta cute. Maybe it would not be a bad idea to marry him. But I can't let him know that, so I put my face in complete poker and mocked disgust.
"Yuck!"
"Ewww! Gross!" Though I said that, it wasn't entirely truthful.
"I can't marry her, she's my friend." And in that one sentence, I feel like I am being suffocated.
"Y-yeah, it'd be so weird." I saw a look of complete surprise hit the major domo's face. He probably thinks we would have thought of this sooner, but excuse me. In the world of cubs, you don't ever think of marrying your best friend, or really anyone for that matter. It defies cub nature, but since hearing the idea, I can't help but think it is ok to break that rule.
"Well sorry to burst your bubbles, Miss Nala and bring you down from Cloud Nine, young Master, but you two have no choice. It is a tradition going back generations." Geez, this furry bat sure is a stickler for tradition. However, I could see that mischievous gleam in Simba's eyes and I already know he was going to have a clever comeback.
"Well, when I'm king, that'll be the first thing to go." And there comes another stab to the heart. Geeze Simba I get it you don't like me that way, but you don't have to make the wound bigger. I quickly covered and gave him a smile to say I supported him.
"Not as long as I'm around." Momo is certainly not one to back down. Boy is he going to be regretting that in the years to come. All are the cubs are literally get him to quit his position of major domo by the time we are adolescents, then we can have some real freedom. I saw Simba move towards Momo and I knew it was time to enact our plan, aka comeback mania.
"Well, in that case, your squirrelly self is fired." I could not help but burst into fits of laughter as Simba said that. Kings above, he is so cocky and the look on Momo's face, priceless.
"Good one, Simba! Show him who is boss!" I saw the major domo get defensive and I knew he was going mano a mano with Simba again.
"Nice try, Prince Fuzzy, but only the King can do that." I saw him flick Simba's nose with a paw and I immediately went to side with my friend. Rule number 1 of Comeback mania, Always go it alone, to preserve Pride. Rule Number 2 is my favorite, there are no rules. Time to put that to use.
"Well he is the future king and the avatar! You forget that as you congratulated yourself in that tiny mind of yours?" I saw a renewed smile appear on Simba's face and once again knew he was going for more. And now the score is tied. I bet on Simba wins.
"Yeah! So you, have to do what I tell you unless you want to lose some fur!" I could literally see smoke leave Momo's ears as Simba nudged him in the chest with his paw. Momo is ticked! How far will he go?
"Not yet I don't! And with a poor attitude like that, I'm afraid you're shaping into a pretty pathetic king indeed. Not to mention a sad avatar." We had already started walking away as he started his rant but this stopped us in our tracks. OH KINGS! Momo did not just mess with Simba's position. I looked to him, and was first had a seething face, but quickly changed to a playful one.
"Not the way I see it!" He moved in towards Momo after he used his water bending to get him all wet. "I'm gonna be a mighty King, my enemies Beware!" Yep! I knew it, Simba's secret weapon: Musical Ownage. Even though it is cool, I always get confused about one thing: Where is that music coming from? I saw Momo get up and knew he was going to try to use it against Simba. Good luck!
"Well I've never seen a king or avatar, with quite such funny hair." I saw him ruffle Simba's arrow of mine and I already knew from Simba's smirk that he was about to crank the comeback meter to then launches himself into bunch of leaves , only for his head popped through to where it looked like he had a grown mane.
"I'm gonna be the mane event, likethe great kings were before. I'm brushing up on looking down, working on my ROAR!" By now, the leaves had fallen away and Simba had mixed a mock roar with a burst of wind to knock Momo into a pond. Oh, wound to his pride!
"Thus far a rather uninspiring thing!" He had gotten up to dry himself on the nearest thing he could find and I laughed when he realized it was an elephant's ear and then got whacked away by the angry creature's trunk.
"Oh I Just Can't Wait to Be King!" I ran off after Simba as he headed for a stream and we both laughed as we saw a soaking wet Momo walk over to us.
"You've rather a long way to go Young Master! If you think, …" But he was immediately cut off by Simba. Momo going to be speechless by the end of today.
"No one saying do this!" As he said that, I gave Momo a goofy look which he caught onto while lecturing Simba. Yep, no rules so I am joining in.
"Now when I said that…" He looked at me and I quickly covered myself as Simba stuck out his tongue and then used earth bending to bend a bunch of dirt on Momo's wet fur and wings.
"No saying be there." Momo almost caught Simba, who gave an innocent look. I decided to play another prank and push some water at him.
"What I meant was…"
"No one saying stop that!" We somehow made a cloud appear over Momo with our combined water and air bending skills.
"What you don't realize…" now Simba gave me another look and he created his air sphere and jumped on while I made one of water and jumped on.
"No one saying see here!" We sung this last part together as we began racing each other on our respective elements.
"Now see here!"
"Free to run around all day." Simba is obviously enjoying this, a lot and I am really getting caught up in it. I look back and see Momo take flight after us with an annoyed look on his face.
"That's definitely out…" Obviously disagreed with our little statement. Too bad.
"Free to do it all my way!"
"Free to do it all our way!" Huh? What did I just say? Momo then started to speed ahead of us and look at us even more annoyed and I could already hear a weak scolding coming.
"I think it's time that you and I, arranged a heart-to-heart." As he said that, he missed the large body of our sky bison friend, Appa and crashed right into his backside.
"Kings don't need advice, from lousy lemurs for a start!" Nice burn Simba.
"If this is where the King's legacy is headed.
Count Me out
Out of service, out of Africa
I wouldn't hang about…" I saw him go over the waterfall, thanks to his cluelessness that the log was floating, but as expected, he flew back up. Darn it "This child is getting wildly out of wing."
"Oh I just Can't Wait to be King!" We then started walking down a row of zebras that stood at attention as their prince passed by. Hmm, I could get used to this. As we got to the end, Momo began to walk down and the zebra's quickly showed him their rears, even I have to admit, that was a bit over the top.
Next we ran into a herd of elephants and began weaving ourselves around their stomping feet. I saw Momo flying above, as we tried to lose him, Simba stomped on the ground and the next thing I knew, we were on top of a giraffe and Simba cleared his throat to obviously start singing again.
"Everybody look left" All the animals moved to the left as their prince spoke and poor Momo was trampled.
"Everybody Look right" And repeat for optim dizziness.
"Everywhere you look I'm…" Simba was singing while somehow jumping from one giraffe head to another like stairs and I sang "Everywhere you look we're…" Oh no! I did it again!
"Standing in the Spotlight!" He rolled down a giraffe's neck as he sung this part and struck a pose as a mysterious spotlight shined down on him. Seriously, where is all this stuff coming from?
"Not Yet!" I saw Momo trying to get free from between two hippos that had crushed him but get squashed again. Maybe he should have stayed wet and then he would have gotten out. I saw a bunch of the animals start to talk to each other while a bunch of others lifted me and Simba up and began to sing.
Let's hear it in the herd and on the wing
It's gonna be King Simba's finest fling." As they sang that last part , they flung me and Simba in the air where we landed on the backs of two ostriches on top of an impossible tower of animals. Getting to the bender boneyard may just prove to be more fun than the destination itself.
"Oh, I Just Can't Wait To Be King!"
"Oh, he Just Can't Wait To Be King!"
"OH, I Just Can't Wait…" He held his note and I joined in right behind him.
"Just Can't Wait…"
"To be Kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!"
"To Be Queeeeeeeeeen!" QUEENS ABOVE! My eyes widened as I suddenly realized I had sung that out loud but thankfully Simba had not noticed as the tower was beginning to fall. We quickly improvised another element race, I formed a slide from water in a nearby pool and began sliding down to the ground while Simba thrust his paws upward and bent a slide out of earth and then jumped to rolled down. Surprisinglylanded at the same spot and began running off towards our true destination, but not before looking back and seeing Momo get crushed by Appa. Comeback Mania: Momo 0, cubs 1.
"Alright it worked!"
"Yeah you should have seen his face!" I looked at Simba and noticed he had that cocky look again. Oh what is it now?
"I am a genius!" Is he serious?! Time for me to take a page out of his book.
"Hey, genius, It was my idea!" I saw the same smirk on his face and I knew he wasn't ready to back down. It's so cute he thinks he stands a chance against me.
"Yeah, but I pulled it off." I narrowed my eyebrows and widened my own smirk. Oh he did, did he?
"Yeah, with me." I saw him crouch down and saw the earth bend slightly. This was Simba's earth pounce pose and I could also feel a slight breeze, so he was using his earth and air bending to prepare to pounce on me. Has he not learned from the last time?
"Oh Yeah?" He pounced and he moved like grease lightning and landed on top of me. Too bad I have a secret arsenal. As he put his paws on my chest and was about to pin me, his paw slipped then I used my secret trick and used my hind paws. I pressed into his stomach and… Flip! I was now on top.
"Pinned Ya'!" I said with a chuckle as I saw his grumpy face.
"Hey Let me up!" I decided to be nice and let him up only to know that he was going to pounce on me again and he added something extra. As I was about to pin him, he used his earth bending and shot a pillar softly to launch us over the edge of a small hill. Nice move. But history once again repeated itself when my paws landed on his chest.
"Pinned Ya' Again!" I looked down at him with what I assumed was a smug expression when he got a smirk on his face.
"What was it you sang during the song?" I froze. He actually heard that. I started fumbling. Trying to look for the right words when a geyser of steam caught our ears. Huh?
We both walked up to the edge of the next hill and looked out. What we saw made us only say one word in unison, "Whoa!" In front of us was a boneyard filled with the bodies of lions, elephants, Zebras, an unusual cat skeleton and numerous others. This was truly a great place to come to.
