Chapter 42: Revival
Tails watched in shock as Sonic killed Galbatorix. He knew that the dragon was really pissed off because Galbatorix had murdered his mate, but Sonic had just broken his own moral code about not killing anyone! Tails shrugged it off and saw Sonic run towards them, going out of his Dark form. He looked at Saphira. A tear ran down his face as he nuzzled her.
She's dead! Sonic growled. I...I can't believe it.
Tails and Eragon looked at Saphira in sympathy. Eragon was also affected by her loss because he had been her Rider. Suddenly, Knuckles' Eldunari floated out of Eragon's knapsack and hovered in the air, glowing brightly.
Wait, it said. There is a way to revive her.
Sonic snapped his head around and stared at the Eldunari. What? How is that possible?
The Chaos Emeralds, Knuckles' Eldunari told him. They're capable of anything. Use them to bring her back to life. They worked on you that time when you died, right?
That's correct, Sonic said. But how will we do that?
The Eldunari glowed and hovered over to the emeralds. Sonic followed it and was shocked to see the Chaos Emeralds, along with the Master Emerald, glow. He looked at Knuckles' Eldunari and frowned in confusion.
How is it that the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald are charged? I thought Galbatorix removed their power. Sonic asked.
When you turned into your Super form, the energy from that form recharged the emeralds. We must bring them to Saphira to bring her back to life.
Sonic nodded. He watched the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald float over to Saphira and hover in the air. The Eldunari glowed brightly also, pouring some of its power into them. Suddenly the emeralds started spinning around, faster and faster, until they were a blur. Saphira's body began to lift in the air and a blinding flash of light shone from the emeralds. Then Saphira dropped to the ground and the emeralds stopped glowing.
The blue dragon ran over to his mate and lay down, wondering if she was alive. Suddenly, he saw that Saphira had started breathing again and he sighed in relief. Saphira opened her eyes and looked at Sonic.
Sonic? She asked. What happened?
Galbatorix killed you but we brought you back to life using the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic told her, and licked her snout. I'm so glad you're alive.
Saphira nodded and looked at him. What about the egg that's holding our baby? Is it alive too?
The blue dragon looked at her and saw the bulge in her stomach. He put a paw to it and felt something, then looked at her. I think so, yes.
Tails and Eragon sighed in relief. The Eldunari that was Knuckles stopped glowing and dropped back into Eragon's knapsack. Eragon walked over to the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald, putting them in his knapsack too. Then he looked at Shadow, who was still unconscious.
"What about him?" Eragon asked.
He'll be fine, Sonic said. Now that Galbatorix is dead, Shadow is free.
Eragon nodded and looked at Saphira, smiling. She smiled back and looked at Sonic, licking his face happily. They were together once again.
