Epilogue: Sonic's Inheritance
Ten years passed since Galbatorix had been defeated. Sonic and Saphira were still living in the Spine taking care of their son, Spike. The ten-year old dragon had learned much over the past ten years and was very healthy. Shadow and Tails were also enjoying their lives and often visited Sonic and Saphira. They were currently in the cave, visiting the two mates, and saw the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald in the back.
So, how's Spike doing? Shadow asked.
Sonic nodded. He is doing well; Spike is out hunting now but he'll be back in a few minutes.
Tails and Shadow looked at him and nodded. A few minutes later, a young dragon flew down, landing in front of the cave with a dead deer in his mouth. He opened his jaws and dropped the animal near them.
Hey dad, Spike said.
Hi, Sonic told him. I see you got dinner.
The ten year old dragon nodded and sat down, eating the corpse of the deer. Sonic and the other dragons smiled and joined in. After they all finished eating, Spike looked at his parents, then grinned and lay down. A few minutes later, they saw someone walk towards them. It was Eragon. He had grown in the past ten years and was taller than Sonic last saw him. The Dragon Rider walked inside the cave and smiled.
"Hey," Eragon said. "How's everyone doing?"
The five dragons looked at him.
We're fine, Saphira told him. How are you?
Eragon smiled and nodded. "I'm great. The dragons are doing well, and so are the Eldunari."
Shadow and Tails looked at him.
Are the dragons fully grown yet? Shadow asked. Tails and I have been wanting mates, and we were wondering if...
"You two could be mates with some of the dragons that hatched from the eggs?" Eragon asked him.
The two dragons looked at him and nodded.
Eragon sighed and smiled. "I guess you could. Most of them are fully grown now and are looking for mates of their own."
Thanks, Tails said, and looked back at Sonic. The male dragon was looking that them with a happy expression on his face. A few minutes later, Knuckles' Eldunari came over.
I see that Eragon has come, it said. I have sensed the other dragons and the Eldunari. They are doing well in Alagaesia.
Sonic looked at it. That's great. Can we see them?
The Eldunari glowed brightly. Some are in Ellesmera right now, and others are spread throughout the land. Go right ahead. I will stay here and guard the emeralds.
Want to go for a flight? Sonic asked Saphira. Or we could just use Chaos Control.
The female dragon nodded and stood up. They walked out of the cave with Spike, Tails, Shadow and Eragon following them. Eragon got on Saphira's back and the dragon flew into the air, followed by the other ones. The flight was long but they reached Ellesmera by nightfall and landed in the forest. Their eyes widened as they saw many dragons, and walked up to them. Shadow and Tails had taken interest in a few, and were conversing with them.
Sonic, Saphira and Spike were happy that the dragon race had repopulated Alagaesia, and Eragon told him that there were more dragons in other areas too. They stayed there for a few weeks before heading back to the Spine. Tails and Shadow had already found mates, so they decided to stay in Ellesmera but would visit Sonic and his family every so often.
Sonic curled up next to his mate in the cave and looked at her. I am glad that everything is working out peacefully, he said.
Saphira looked at him and nodded before nuzzling her mate. Spike walked up to them and smiled.
I'm thankful that we are a family, he said before lying down next to them. Alagaesia truly is a beautiful place.
The two grown dragons looked at their son and smiled. Sonic sighed; he was happy also and thankful that he was summoned here. Now he had a family who loved him, and his friends were here to. He didn't regret his choice of staying here in Alagaesia; Sonic felt it was the right thing to do. He lay down and fell asleep, thinking of all the things he looked forward to in the years to come. This was Sonic's inheritance.
