Chapter 16 F: Forgotten Past (part 2.3) {6}
Night Shadow vs. Blue
-Before The Defection-
"Yesterday…I just found out the world was ending. And I didn't give a damn." Blue muttered, sitting against the fridge as Night Shadow rested on the couch in front of him.
"Why didn't you give a damn? Did you believe that was true?" Night Shadow asked,lifting a brow.
"Yes and no. I believed the world was ending for a few ponies. Lives being swept away by the tides of death while others are born to die like everypony else, but…the part of me that didn't care told me that it didn't matter." Blue said, looking calmly at Night Shadow.
"How come it didn't matter? I'm sure other ponies' lives matter." Night Shadow said.
Blue shook his head in disagreement.
"No, they mean nothing. Not to me at least. I can't feel any emotions that you have, more or less care about the lives of others or even my own."
"Then why are you alive?" Night Shadow asked, "How about you just go kill yourself to find out."
"That'll be too easy. Only the ignorant, lost, or poor fools do that. I am trying to find out, if not feel if all of this is really possible to break. This chain of emotionless crap has truly gotten to me that it causes me to make impulsive actions. Sometimes…I think they are intentional." Blue explained calmly.
"You make yourself sound like a sociopath." Night Shadow said, chuckling lightly.
Blue growled in annoyance.
"Such a foal, the correct way to put it is anti-social. It is my orders from Herus to keep you alive, if I wasn't given that order, I'd kill you now and walk away." He said, glaring at him coldly.
"Sheesh, that's pretty much being mean." Night Shadow said, folding his hooves and looking at Blue without caring.
"That's who I am." Blue said.
"So, why does it not matter with the world ending and stuff?"
"Think like this, if some God came down to earth and disemboweled himself with a straight-razor—mind you, in front of our eyes and all those religious zealots out there, what would be your reaction?" Blue asked.
Night Shadow was confused, unable to think of a possible response to such an appalling and repulse scene.
"And the old devil was eaten away by cannibals that now roam the planet as Mother Nature ventures around its desolated lands. Honestly, that's the reaction you're making that others will definitely give. I don't care much about that. My focus is, would I really care?" He said.
"Blue, what in the bloody &#* are you talking about? A god disemboweling himself in front of everypony, what the hay kind of question is that?" Night Shadow asked, seeing his partner roll his eyes.
"Basically, God committing suicide is quite a scene. I wonder...would change how I see things in life and feel towards it. I lack the key concepts you feel when someone needs help or just needs to die. To be honest, I think that's our difference out of many differences. You have emotions…and I don't when I should. Somepony special dies and I don't care much about them. The only thing that is killing me about it is simply not feeling the fact of mourning."
"Okay, so you're a sociopath!" Night Shadow shouted.
Blue remained quiet and looked to the side.
"A sociopath searches for the same thing, but still remains lost in everything he sees. So perhaps I am, it does not matter. We were born to die and there is no answer to why we are even alive."
"Perhaps something gave us that chance to live?" Night Shadow said.
Blue shook his head.
"No, that's not an answer, but your opinion. Not even our damn leader has an answer without stating an opinion. Understand this, Night Shadow. We all have opinions to why we are alive, but not one of them is a direct answer. Not one of us truly knows the exact answer or can assume whoever else does. No matter what, we all must know this…we are all going to die."
-Present Time-
"Have you found it yet?" Night Shadow asked, standing in a field of white clovers.
Ahead of him was Blue, standing next to a tree that had a wooden knife lodged into it. Blue did not answer, but simply stared off into the empty white void that expanded on and on with no end. Night Shadow grew angry from his ex-partner's silence raised his tone.
"Come on, Blue, speak!"
Blue turned to him and glared at him with his haunting, emotionless eyes. They were soulless or that what other ponies would believe, except Night Shadow. He frowned at the sight of his ex-partner and mentor standing there in deep silence.
"Have you found what you've been looking for all this time?" Night Shadow asked again.
"This tower…is a living weapon. The more I use it…the stronger my attacks get. Eventually…I will lay waste to this world and Herus will be one of them buried under the rubble of the meteors." He said calmly.
"Answer my question!"
"The future-generation will understand the curse of war and attempt to stop it, using this as the ultimate weapon, just as it was made to be."
"Answer me!"
"Then it will be used again, again, again, and again until a newer weapon arises. The one being known as the…"
"Blue!"
Blue paused and looked at Night Shadow. He frowned and stared at the blossoming flowers.
"Blue?" Night Shadow tone softened.
"I haven't found it yet. I thought I did, but I haven't. However, I know where it is hidden." He said, looking back at Night Shadow.
"What do you mean?" Night Shadow asked in a worried tone.
"Do you know what this tree is behind me?" He asked, turning around, facing the old leafless wood.
Night Shadow was hesitant to ask, but shook his head.
"No..."
"This tree…is the source to where all of the planet's magical energy flows through. This tree is the stem of our creation." Blue said, pressing his hoof gently against it. "Without it…our world will die." He said, resting his forehead against it.
"That tree…is the source to life?" Night Shadow gasped.
"The last of its kind." Blue added on before he turned around, pulling out his wooden knife and clutching it tight with his mouth.
"The last of its kind, so this is the tree of life?" Night Shadow asked.
"Yes, the final tree of life, since the others were wiped out by many corrupted leaders fearing others might use it to take them down or use it to reach godhood, each tree had to be wiped out. This tree was saved by a queen who used the last bit of her magic to transport it into this place right after her village went into an epidemic."
"Epidemic?" Night Shadow questioned as Blue began carving on the tree.
"This occurred when I was a colt, a village known as San-an-tani. The village was always going through some depression. Profits were low, stocks and supplies were rarely bought, and the villagers were poor. The queen struggled to make sure the entire village managed to survive for many years, but then came the day when the chieftain overthrew her, demanding she used this tree to save them. It was a sacred tree nopony was allowed to damage or use for any means necessary. It was the world or…the village's life, she chose the world."
"But why couldn't she use the tree carefully, there had to be some way in helping all the residents?" Night Shadow asked.
"There wasn't. The sap in this tree is poisonous, able to kill anypony or anything if it touches their tongue. She was trying to save her village, not watch them commit suicide on the streets like the lost city of Zion. These ponies truly lost their minds, but not their will to live. They just didn't understand why she denied them that tree. The queen used her magic to teleport it here, knowing nopony would find it or think it'll be here. Not even Midnight." Blue said, resting his back against the tree after stabbing the bark.
"So…is it the whole reason that you're able to shoot down meteors?" Night Shadow asked staring at the tree shocked.
"No," Blue shook his head, "This tower was made into a weapon but disguised as some burial ground for the honorable dead. The purpose was to keep this tree hidden." He said, lowering his head, allowing his mane to fall over his eyes. "But my purpose…is to destroy it in front of you." He said, slowly moving his head up, glaring towards Night Shadow coldly.
"W-what…are you mad? You'll doom the entire world!" He yelled.
"The world was doomed since the beginning of time. I'm just doing it a favor and gaining back my vengeance." Blue said, getting up from the ground, tossing aside his cloak.
"Vengeance?" Night Shadow muttered.
"That village that the queen saved from pure destruction turned on me along with the world. It took away what was left in me that I always held close. It coveted what was rightfully mine and forced me to wipe it out clean. Now that lies in my path is its corpse. This world must pay in suffering as I did. It must slowly die knowing that life would soon no longer exist as it slowly deteriorates." He said in a cold calm tone.
"Blue that's crazy, what the hell did the entire world do to you?" Night Shadow asked raising his tone.
Blue shook his head grabbed his wooden knife leaking green liquid.
"It forced me to kill every villager and my own sister." He said, before twirling around, swinging his wooden knife towards the tree.
"No!" Night Shadow yelled, but it was too late as Blue sliced the tree in half with one slice.
The air grew quiet before a loud rumbling burst of green energy exploded out of the ground around Blue and the mid-capitated tree. Blue slowly turned around and looked at Night Shadow as green energy began wrapping around him.
"It is all over."
"Blue, what did you do?" Night Shadow yelled, running towards him only to be smacked back by a strange green glowing shield formed from the massive flow of energy.
Blue eyes widened as he felt a sudden line of pain course through his body. His muscles burn while his eyes glowed brightly green. He released a painful yell as his body levitated up from the ground. Night Shadow began panicking, shaking his head side to side at the painful and terrifying sight before him.
"Blue, stop it! Don't let it get a hold of yourself! Blue! BLUE!"
He was soon silenced once a massive blast of energy blew him back, sending the flowers to spread out their white petals everywhere as a strong gust blew chunks of grass away. Night Shadow struggled to get up from the ground and stared at his ex-partner lowering onto the ground with long majestic, green glowing wings while five horns along with a thorn crown took place on his head. Strange symbols appeared on his chest, burning and glowing black while four more wings spread out in display, glowing black as well. The wooden knife Blue had morphed into a rapier with a shining rainbow gem in the center of the handle.
"No…what did it do to you? Blue…answer me? What did it do to you?!" Night Shadow yelled, readying his katana.
When Night Shadow took a step forward, Blue moved in a second, appearing right next to him. The red unicorn had no time to avoid Blue's powerful wing that smacked him back a few yards. Night Shadow regained his balance, sliding back before rolling to the side from a powerful beam that carved through the ground. Night Shadow looked ahead and saw Blue's sword levitating in the air glowing brightly, indicating it was able to unleash long-range attacks. The four wings closed around Blue before releasing a strong gust that tore away most of the ground heading towards Night Shadow. The unicorn gasped and was blown back, gritting his teeth when his back carved through the dirt.
When he got up, he rolled to the side from Blue's instant teleportation attack. The transformed stallion impaled the ground with his blade before pulling it out and swinging it towards Night Shadow with the help of his strange power. The stallion blocked the strike, only to feel a strong force push him back. The rapier was not strong enough to break Jack's sword, but it was able to push the wielder back. The stallion soon noticed that Jack's blade was a double-edged type of katana. He had to make his moves carefully without adding too much force that would leave him open. When Blue pointed his left hoof at the red unicorn, a strange force pulled in Night Shadow before being blown back. Night Shadow crashed into the ground, rolling in the dirt before stopping. He coughed out blood, struggling up from the ground and angrily glaring at Blue.
"All of this power…came from that tree…of all things...it came from a & ^#&$ tree?!" Night Shadow yelled in annoyance. "Whatever, I don't care where you got it but it's not enough to stop me now! Get a hold of yourself, Blue!" He yelled.
Blue made no response as his wings started flapping, sending powerful gusty winds towards the stallion. Night Shadow watched as Blue gained air into the sky and soon pointed his blade at the ground. It began glowing bright again, releasing a loud whistle that caused the red unicorn to cover his ears.
"SCOURGE OF CHAOS!" Blue roared as his wings and sword burst into long, sharp curvy lines of energy, raining down onto the ground.
Night Shadow dodged one beam, but was blown away along with the field by the destructive force. The bright explosions were loud, sending a deafening roar that rung through the unicorn's ears as he got up from the ground. The field was on fire, but instead of seeing regular fire, the flames were green. Blue returned to the ground, having his energy-like wings opened wide. The unicorn was quick to block another attack and able to swing his blade at Blue, but the sword blocked it, sending him a bit back.
Night Shadow recovered from the deflection quickly and ducked from a powerful swing that carved through the air, but he had no time to avoid the cold sharp glowing metal from piercing into his shoulder and tossing him to the side. Night Shadow breathed out a soft curse before rolling to the side and swinging his blade at Blue. His levitating blade blocked each strike, but when it swung, Night Shadow dodged the blow and returned a powerful swing. The stallion was lucky enough to land a powerful blow on Blue's blade, causing the stallion to stumble back, but once he was opened for attack, Night Shadow sheathed his blade and leaped towards his transformed friend.
"Snap out of it!" He yelled, punching Blue's face with his right hoof, sending him back.
Blue steadied himself and glared at Night Shadow who took a gulp before readying his blade.
Blue looked at his right wing and transformed it into five massive blades pointing straight at Night Shadow. The red unicorn eyes widened when they fired directly at him, turning into bright beams of light. He turned tail and began running back only to be blown forward once one of the beams exploded into the ground behind him, sending him forward. The stallion was hit a few times by the beams before the last one grazed his right cheek. Night Shadow rolled on the ground and struggled up to his feet, feeling his body burn in pain as marks sizzled out of his fur. Blue's missing wing reformed into its glowing glory as his rapier levitated by his side.
"Blue…you've pissed me off." Night Shadow said as his tone became serious.
The red unicorn readied the katana and felt his body grow light. He felt startled a bit, but could feel the grand sensation Jack would feel whenever he wielded this blade. The wind picked up, blowing around them as they both made their move. Night Shadow knew Blue moved faster than him, but he could predict most of the attacks. However, he lacked the awareness of Blue's wings that were made of pure of energy and able to transform into weapons. When Blue's and Night Shadow's swords clashed, it caused the ground beneath them to shake and bounce them back. The two regain their footing and watched as large streams of energy burst out from the ground and into the air.
Eventually, the massive streams of energy started to morph into a tornado, keeping them from leaving the upward spiral. The ground beneath them started to rise; tearing away the very part of the terrae they were on. Gravity stood fine for the two, but seeing how far they were from the rising ground was surely a sight to behold. One wrong step and it was over. Blue soon roared, catching Night Shadow's attention to gasp at the sight of his metamorphosing friend. The bright green light the swirling helix gave off with pure luminosity was being covered by the enlarging streams of energy, wrapping around Blue. Night Shadow remained horrified by the painful scene as he watched Blue's from start to twist and morph. It was as if his massive form was giving off a terrifying, cruel, sardonic bravado.
Blue descended onto the floating surface and revealed himself to being more in a majestic form than the previous. His eyes shine in pure white as his energy like wings became more realistic. The thorn crown on his head next to his horns became real and was fused with his head. The rapier floating beside him morphed into a lancer bearing Phoenician symbols resembling lightning. The godly like stallion pointed his lancer at Night Shadow that backed away in horror.
"Light of Judgment!" He roared, bringing his lancer down onto the platform.
Night Shadow body was lifted off from the ground before forced into the hard rock that began splitting apart. A bright circle surrounded the stallion as multiple small orbs of light appeared from both sides. He panicked and ran forward until he was blown off the ledge once the orbs exploded into bright beams of light, tearing away the entire platform. Night Shadow landed hard on another rock, grabbing the ledge to save him from his fall. Looking up, he spotted Blue floating in the air before vanishing in a flash of light. The red unicorn had no time to avoid the quick attack from Blue as he felt the side of the steel lancer collide against his chest, launching him downward into a floating platform. Night Shadow coughed out blood before looking up, seeing Blue descending downward to the ground.
"You're really…" Night Shadow struggled up from the ground, "Starting to piss me off!" He yelled, running towards him with his blade prepared.
Blue scoffed before vanishing in front of Night Shadow and reappearing from the other side of the platform. The stallion rushed towards him before watching Blue teleport again. The process started to continue for a few times before causing the red unicorn to yell out Blue's name in aggravation.
"Stop toying with me!" Night Shadow demanded.
Blue appeared above Night Shadow with his lancer pointed down, rushing towards him. Night Shadow's eyes widened before he backed away, getting grazed in the cheek. He had no time to breathe out relief once Blue landed on the ground and bucked him back, almost knocking him off the ledge.
"He's too damn fast and strong. What the hell did that tree do to him?" He muttered, spitting out blood and a tooth.
When Blue vanished, Night Shadow panicked once the stallion appeared in front of him, bringing his lancer down. The red unicorn blocked it quickly with the sword, but didn't have enough strength from the crushing blow the lancer brought once it struck the katana's plate. Night Shadow felt his body vibrated from the sudden friction that began tearing away at some parts of his muscles.
"Blue, snap out of it! I…I believe in you damn it! You were the strongest pony out there that would not let anything control him! What the hell is wrong with you? Blue, come back to the world and snap out of it!" Night Shadow yelled, trying to reason with his former friend that made no sudden facial expressions.
Blue remained calm, powerful, and deep down through the white orbs…lost. Night Shadow managed to break the stalemate and slide of the platform landing onto another rising one, but this time it was a small one with a square rocky pattern than a circular. Blue destroyed the platform he was on and flew straight towards Night Shadow with his lancer ready. Night Shadow swung once Blue swung and when their weapons collided, a loud force of energy burst out from both sides, causing the rocky platforms all around them to shatter into pieces.
The energy tornado disperses and the two lands on standing rocks, facing one another. Around them was water rushing by as more slabs rose up from the depths. Electricity sparked around Blue as the water became a death trap if anypony fell into it. Night Shadow felt as if this was some nostalgic scene being played before him as Blue hopped from rock to rock before teleporting. The red unicorn quickly leaped onto another rock before Blue destroyed the one he was standing on after appearing behind him.
"Blue…" Night Shadow struggled to hold back his tears after watching Blue float into the air, beginning to transform again. "Blue…you're not a monster!" He yelled.
The same energy tendrils that had encased him before reappeared again, this time sinking into his body and wrapping around him. Night Shadow was forced to watch Blue cry out in agony from the painful transformation. His wings entered into his body as well as his horns. When the fused thorn crown sunk into his skull, Blue's eyes became frightening toad eyes, staring straight into Night Shadow's eyes.
"Blue…you're one of us!"
The red unicorn's words were cut short sadly once Blue cried out in agony again. Leather wings burst out from his back, stretching eighteen feet and thirty-six wide. Horns the form of a goat and bull burst out from his forehead, covered in blood and pointing sharp and high; another sets of wings the same size as the others burst out his back, but this time, they resembled hands sewn with leather skin that was purple and scarred. The most frightening piece to his transformation was the glowing symbol on his chest that formed into an upside-down cross.
Blue had the form of a terrible, sinister looking, insidious, and malevolent malice creature from whatever realm it came from. The eldritch appearance caused Night Shadow's body to freeze in terror and shake as he continued to stare into the frightening eyes of his screaming his friend. The water around them turned red, and soon, bodies of ponies and fishes floated by. A forest of burning trees formed from out of the mist on both sides from them. This realm now was void of life, but full of death. Night Shadow could hear not only his ex-mentor's screams, but the dead of many ponies he had killed long time ago. What this place was, Night Shadow knew a soul like him was not meant to be here…yet.
Blue stopped his screaming and began breathing heavily. He glared straight at Night Shadow and opened his wings, releasing a deafening roar that caused the sky to crackled thunder. Dark colored rain began falling from the sky as sparks in the water caused fire to release, burning the passing corpses.
"Blue…no…you're not Blue. You're something else. You're something that Blue would never become." Night Shadow muttered as he readied his blade.
"I am Chaos! Brother to Harmona, God of Discord, Destroyer of Peace; devourer of souls, plunger of madness and despair, and the ultimate prime force that is all in the multiverse! I will see fit that you will know true despair! Know CHAOS!"
Night Shadow was not prepared from the hot blast of fire that shot out of Blue's mouth that blew him back over the fire. Night Shadow flipped and landed on a rock, breathing heavily from the near-death experience. He knew that he would be expecting a lot of that if he tried to survive against this possessor of Blue and not take him down. Hopping from rock to rock, Night Shadow lunged into the air and swung his blade. Blue used his right lower wing to block the attack, but hissed in pain when the cold steel touched his wing. Night Shadow was blown back once he hit the wing, shocked that it felt almost metal.
"It seems you possess Harmona's champion blade. I doubt a mere mortal like you can possess such power to be her champion."
Night Shadow ignored whatever he was saying, focusing on his objective to free Blue from the monster's control. Blue or Chaos fired another blast of fire. Night Shadow gasped before leaping onto a few rocks, gaining distance from the colliding flames that exploded the standing rocks he was on. When he landed on the next one, he blocked a teleporting attack from Chaos, but felt the wind get knock out of him as he was sent flying back into another rock. The stallion flipped in a circle before crashing into another standing rock that began to fall forward into the burning-electrifying water. Night Shadow's eyes widened as he quickly climbed his way to the end of the rock that pointed straight at the raining sky. Once he reached the top, he leaped onto another rock and jumped towards Chaos. Chaos' eyes narrowed as he opened up his wings and soon flapped them forward, blowing Night Shadow back. The stallion quickly stabbed into a rock, saving his body from being airborne, and began pulling himself up.
"Your volition cannot overcome discord!"
Night Shadow got up as the area began to morph around him. Soon, beneath them rising from the ground, was large circular metal grating platform. The sky were filled with light as massive crystals from all directions burst from the waters, rising high into the air. The sun shined bright down on the two as energy swirled around in small beams of light. Soon, the clouds covered the sun and turned it red. Small meteors rained down from the sky, incinerating into nothing but small debris.
"All must end in disorder!"
Chaos landed on the ground and roared before releasing a stream of fire beams at Night Shadow. The stallion ran to the right and left, dodging the burning beams before blocking a powerful lunge from the God of Chaos that knocked him back. Night Shadow managed to regain his footing and glared angrily at Chaos before running towards him. The monster roared, disappearing from an attack and appearing in the air.
"Your life is only a brink…"
Night Shadow gasped, seeing five glowing lancers pointing at him in all directions. They struck the ground and exploded, sending him up into the air before being bounced down by an explosive blast.
"To True Despair!" Chaos roared, appearing beneath Night Shadow.
He grabbed him from the back of his neck and slamming him into the ground. Chaos appeared in the air above Night Shadow and then fired a massive fire ball. The stallion rolled to the side, before being blown back once again. The red unicorn readied his blade and blocked a fast attack from Chaos that sent him rolling to the side. The stallion realized that hitting him would be difficult, but his attacks all had timing. Remembering what Blue taught him, the stallion quickly slid to a halt on his hooves and flipped back in the air, dodging a powerful swing from Chaos' tail. Night Shadow landed behind him and swung his sword after dashing forward, cutting through Chaos' chest.
He landed, sliding back into a halt again only to twirl around and buck Chaos' back. The god regained his footing and roared in anger before flipping into the air, unleashing powerful sharp beams of hell-fire. Night Shadow leaped left and right again, but had no chance to avoid the surprising fire ball that crashed beside him and sent him rolling to the side. When the stallion got up from the ground, he gasped, seeing the god roar again, holding a massive ball of fire in his hooves.
"Know despair, Hollow BEING!" He roared firing the ball of fire.
Night Shadow panicked and ran to the right, looking back at the beam of fire tailing him behind. There was enough power put into it that could kill him if he let it plunge him into the flames. When Chaos stopped using that move, he teleported onto the center of the platform and held his hooves in the air. Night Shadow took this opportunity as his chance to run at him and unleash a powerful attack, but he had no time to avoid the explosive beam beneath his hooves that sent him flying into the air. He looked down in pain, spotting a massive ball of fire in Chaos' hooves being lifted high in the air. Soon, smaller forms of the massive ball began firing at him, causing him to use his blade to deflect as many of the balls as he could.
"Face the ultimate! On your hooves! Fear me! This is the end!" He yelled, throwing the massive fire ball at him.
Night Shadow used his blade to hold back the ball, but it was too strong for him to manage, breaking through his guard and exploding before him. Night Shadow was severely burned, landing on the ground with a hard thud as he stared at the mighty god of discord. Breathing heavily, Night Shadow struggled back onto his hooves, clutching his katana tightly in his mouth as blood dripped down from the handle.
"I'm not finish, I won't go down...and I won't die now." Night Shadow mumbled.
"Turn your back on those you've loved. The universe is now broken and the cycle of harmony and chaos will be broken. I will make sure all know true despair! There is no mercy, compassion, or hope in the world. Embrace the chaos for in the end that is all! Now that universe lost its voice, everything you know of will be gone in a second!"
"I disagree!" Night Shadow yelled, running towards him. "I will take you down!" He yelled as the blade began glowing brightly.
Night Shadow didn't know why the sword began glowing, but his body felt light again and fast. Warmth formed a blanket around him as he got closer to the monstrous god. When Chaos roared, he also fired a few fire balls. The stallion quickly sliced them, finding the discovered strength capable of taking down the god as he mentioned the blade belonging to a champion of Harmona.
"Shiver at the power of a God!" Chaos roared as he flew into the air, causing Night Shadow to stop at movement and stare up at the air.
The god teleported and reappeared outside of the arena in a massive form with four lancers floating beside him in the same titan sized form like him. One lancer flew down, crashing into steel grating platform, sliding straight towards Night Shadow that flipped over it. When he dodged the first lancer, Night Shadow quickly rolled to the right and leaped into the air, dodging another lancer. Chaos flew to the side and brought down two lancers at once that released a powerful blast of lightning and fire in an X-pattern formation. Night Shadow managed to dodge the powerful attacks, but he gasped in shock when the lancers flew in separated directions before coming to a stop and pointing at him.
"You resist in vain, so breathe your last…" The lancers at the same time flew forward.
Night Shadow leaped into the air, dodging them by a thin hair. However, once he looked down, his eyes widened in shock. The lancers were glowing bright light before unleashing a powerful beam of bright light combined with lightning and fire that struck him.
"PERISH!"
Chaos returned to his normal size and landed in the center of the platform after his lancers vanished. Night Shadow crashed into the ground, coughing out blood. The god of Discord gritted his fangs, and summoned a lancer beside him.
"Your life is going to witness true and utter annihilation. Prepare to die!"
"Not today!" Night Shadow yelled, ignoring the blood coming down his forehead as he clutched the blade tightly and swung forward.
He felt his body moving fast as the wind was cut clean by the by the sharp katana. Chaos used the lancer to block the blade, but stunned to see it pushing him back.
"I am going to get Blue back!" He yelled.
"Is that all you are thinking about. Do you not see that your friend has sold himself to the abyss of chaos? He has become one with discord and there will be nothing to get him back. He is my host as I am the embodiment of Chaos! I am a god."
"I don't care what or who you are, I am going to get Blue back from you no matter how long it takes! ." Night Shadow said, angrily glaring into the God of Discord's eyes.
"Even if I gave your precious friend back, the outcome would not be so expected. You will truly regret it. You will remember it as your cold memory that your mind will do its best to not remember. Giving Blue back would be the last thing you ever want in this pathetic world."
"The last thing I want is none of your business!"
Night Shadow was blown back, nearly falling off the ledge of the platform, before glaring at the beast before him.
"PERISH!" Chaos roared, unleashing a diving fire attack, crashing his hooves into the ground and sending chunks of metal towards Night Shadow.
The red unicorn gasped, dodging the sharp chunks but almost falling off the ledge again….no like seriously, this has happened how many times now?"
"GET ON WITH IT!"
Ok, ok…
He got up from the ground and ran towards Chaos, swinging his blade in a 180 degree angle. Chaos caught on quickly from the attack and blocked it with his lancer, glaring down at the mortal before him.
"Foolish creature! What you seek is nothing more but a pit of despair!" He growled.
"Oh shut up!" Night Shadow yelled, pushing him back, managing to unleash a powerful swing that cut against the god's right foreleg. Chaos leaped back, growling in pain and anger from the attack.
"I will end this game!" He yelled slamming his hooves onto the ground as fire began to swarm around him.
Night Shadow covered his face from the hot fire that emitted off of the dark god, but he was soon taken back from large omni-directional beams of fire heading straight towards him. He had no chance to avoid its powerful blast of heat as it tossed him over the ledge, knocking him off the platform. Oh now he falls off!
…..
I'll be quiet now...
As he plummeted, he yelled in terror, finding nothing to grab onto. Light was below, shining brighter than he could imagine as he fell into the abyss of light. Chaos' dark voice echoed in his ears.
"Even darkness runs in you. I shall spectate you for now on, along with this world and their false worships."
-Flashback-
Blue and Night Shadow rested inside of a hotel room after their assassination mission. Night Shadow was busy resting under the covers of his sheets while Blue read a small book that was found on the counter next to their lamp. The stallion grew restless and soon turned to his friend, lifting his brow.
"What you reading?"
"Some old mythological book, it's called The Children Of Existence: Life and Death.
Back then, ponies used to believe that Existence, a female entity, gave birth to the entire universe and created two beings to establish an order. Life, or Harmona, goddess of harmony and peace that grants light as well as controls it for the others; and Death, or Chaos, god of discord and atrocities that casts darkness and pain to everything. Seems alright, sucks for those that worship Harmona though."
"What happened to them?" Night Shadow asked, rubbing his eyes.
"Religion and faith, Night Shadow, religion and faith. Other religions were born back then and most nations fought for power and belief. This belief was the most persecuted. It is said that all of those that believed in this were crucified and murder, but not one gave up their belief. So, as the books of "written" history may say, they are all gone."
"You believe in that stuff?"
"I don't believe in any god, I am just reading this for the past time." He said calmly.
"But why?"
Blue remain silent, returning Night Shadow a response.
"I don't know. To remind myself of the madness the world is still in."
"Madness...well, the way I'm seeing this madness in this world, it's starting to grow normal to me." The unicorn said, chuckling lightly before staring into the ceiling.
Blue did not make a comment, but remained quiet and directed towards the page he was on.
'The tree of life was the final gift of Harmona before her departure to create the grand heaven to her followers of light. She prayed for assistance in this work, hoping some being would protect her children if she would ever to fail and fall from the darkness of Chaos' and his scourge spreading across the universe, infecting all with anger and malignant discord. No higher being from another universe answered, except one. Her eyes watered in joy as her ears listened to this being's calming melodious voice. The being promised her that if she were to fall…her trees would continue to live along with a chance of hope that her children would too. And so this being assisted her in making her heaven, but in the cost that was inevitable, Harmona did fall.
She used the last of her energy to grant this afterlife for her followers and became sacred tools of wonders, spreading far across the universe. The being from another universe felt dishearten by this and took a part of her, promising a world where she would heal and soon gain another chance to see her followers of light. Sadly, that was the last of the being's existence, and sadly the world was slowly becoming a part of Chaos until the followers of light used their goddess' pieces against the darkness. They managed to preserve her trees, but sadly…were wiped out from the growing numbers.
But before their death, their goddess' final words before her departure were strong and still lingered in the air through deaf ears and loyal followers…'
-Present-
Night Shadow opened his eyes, breathing heavily as he found himself in a large rocky room in which sun shined from the ceiling through a massive hole. It took him a while to realize that he was back in the original room and that the world he went through was only an illusion. However, he still suffered injuries. Staring ahead, his eyes widened, seeing Blue completely pale blue with a fading mane. The root marks on his skin was still there, but had a more decaying detail to his dying physique. He was back to his normal form, but slowly dying.
"Before I leave to our final heaven, I leave with you my words of hope. Darkness is nothing more than like you. Afraid of being alone, dying, and losing precious ones, but do not hate it for what it does; do not hate at all. Like you, and like me, we all have our limits, and feelings. We are all the same, siblings, and those that suffered. So I leave you a promise that you may rehearse over and over again in line or verbatim, I leave you a gift of my solitude, happiness, love, and…" Blue paused as he rested back against the stump of the tree, looking back at the abyss of darkness that lead further down.
He soon looks back, eyes becoming too weak to remain open and shakes his head, "my forgiveness."
"B-Blue?" Night Shadow muttered, struggling up to his hooves, holding his katana to his side.
"I knew…this day would come. When all I was trying to do was escape the predestine fate that was in store for me by this goddess and god. I've…been betrayed too many times…I don't think I can handle anything anymore. So, I did what I had to do." He said, looking at Night Shadow.
"Y-you...you had this planned all along. W-wait…that means…you knew this would
happen to begin with. We would meet…here. But why didn't you tell me?" Night Shadow asked in shock.
Blue closed his eyes and stared down.
"I…I didn't want to believe…so I didn't told you."
"That doesn't make sense."
"I know…I can't even put it to sense." Blue said, readying himself.
Night Shadow looked at him oddly before quickly moving to the side, dodging Blue's quick lancer thrust. Blue yelled, but stopped once he stumbled onto the ground.
"Blue…? S-stop this." Night Shadow muttered as his friend turned around, facing him.
"Stand and fight…" Blue's weak tone grew grim. "Son of Light…NIGHT SHADOW!" Blue yelled.
'It was that book…no…it was true. We were destined to fight each other. Our roles…even if they were switched…we will still be here fighting.' Night Shadow thought, closing his eyes slowly.
He took in a deep breath and glared at Blue.
"I…I'm sorry for everything I've done...but you gave me no choice..." He whispered as Blue moved back his right hind leg.
The two stared at one another as the silence took in its moment. It soon broke when they dashed forward, preparing to swing their weapons and end the final draw. Blood shot up into the air in slow motion as the sound of metal cutting through flesh was heard.
