Chin heard the police cars pull in behind him, but there was still no answer from the house. He could see Rachel's car and Steve's truck and knew something was wrong. He knew he could call Danny and have him call the security company and get them to open the gate, but he didn't want to worry the man. If Williams found out his family was in trouble he'd find a way to leave the hospital.

"Chin…"

"Duke, can you contact the security company and get them to open the damn gate?" Kelly asked worriedly.

"Chin!"

Kelly turned back toward the house when he heard Rachel's voice. The woman was hurrying toward him with her daughter by the hand. "Rachel, open the gate!"

Rachel nodded and quickly opened the alarm box to the right of the gate. "She's in there with Steve!"

"It's okay, Rachel, we're here to help!" Chin told her as the gate started to open. He grabbed the little girl and made sure Rachel followed him to safety behind the nearest police car. "Where are they?"

"In the house!" Rachel answered as Grace wrapped her arms around her.

"Where in the house?" Lukela asked.

"In the living room. She had a gun and I had to get Grace out of there!"

"I know, and it's okay. Is there a back way into the house?" Chin asked.

"Yes, but it's locked. I'm sorry, but I always keep the doors locked and we were getting ready to go to the park. I thought she worked for the cleaning company, but she doesn't and I think she may have killed the woman who does…did work for them…"

"Rachel, can you do something for me?" Chin asked.

"What?"

"Can you call Danny and let him know you're safe before the reporters get here?"

"I guess…but I left my phone in the house," Rachel told him.

"Use mine," Kelly said and nodded as Duke told him he was sending men into the house.

"Chin, you're still on sick leave so stay put!" Lukela ordered and knew the man wanted in on the action. "Make sure Rachel and Grace are safe."

"Danny, it's Rachel…"

Danny Williams had been dozing off when he heard the phone ring and reached for it, nearly dropping the object before placing it to his ear. "Williams."

"Danny, it's Rachel."

"Rachel…what's wrong? Is Grace all right? Where are you?"

"Grace and I are fine, Danny, but that woman…the one who set those explosions is at my home."

"Damn it! Can you get out of the house?"

"We're already out, but she's still in there…"

"Then let the police handle it, Rachel!"

"They are…hold on…Chin wants to talk to you."

"Danny, Rachel and Grace are fine. They're here…"

"What are you doing there?"

"Hold on and listen. Steve called me to say Anna Borchevsky called him and threatened Grace and Rachel. .."

"Sonofabitch! Where's Steve?"

"He's in the house with her. She had Grace hostage, but Steve made sure they got out."

"Is he okay?"

"I don't know…he was okay when Rachel and Grace left, but the woman had a gun and a knife. Did she use the gun, Rachel?"

Danny heard Rachel's answer and hoped McGarrett hadn't been hit, but knowing his partner's magnetic personality when it came to trouble, he had a feeling his roommate would be back sooner than expected.

"Danny, I need to go, but I wanted to make sure you knew about this before the reporters got here. I'm going to have an officer drive Rachel and Grace to the hospital so you can see for yourself that they're all right."

"Thanks, Chin, and keep me updated about Steve. Okay?"

"I'll call as soon as I can."

Williams closed his eyes and lay back against the pillows as he tried to make sense of what had happened. God, help him, but he was relieved that Rachel and Grace were safe and angry at Steve for bringing this trouble to their door. It was bad enough they could be in danger because of him, but this was a stranger who should never have known Grace and Rachel existed.

Danny knew Steve was not to blame for this, but that didn't make it any easier to deal with. Even Stan had put them in danger and he wasn't a cop. The world was filled with people like Anna Borchevsky, and the blame for what they did lay at their feet, not Steve or any other man or woman who stood up for what was right.

Williams looked down at his casted left and cursed the injury that kept him confined to the bed. The door opened and Kamekona and Kono came into the room carrying a bag from the deli near his home.

"I figured you might…what's wrong?" Kono asked and listened as Williams told them what he knew.

"I should go down there," Kono said.

"And do what?" Williams asked. "Stay here…Chin said he'd call. Rachel and Grace are on their way here now."

"They're okay?" Kamekona asked.

"Shook up, but they're fine," Williams answered. "Chin said Steve's still in there with her and that there was a gunshot."

"The Big Kahuna can handle hisself." Kamekona said and sat down in the chair by the window as Williams turned on the television and tuned in to the local newscast.

McGarrett knew he was fighting for his life against a woman who was as well trained as he was. If he'd been at full strength he could have overpowered her, but he'd been injured and was now losing blood at an alarming rate. He knew Rachel and Grace were safe and watched as Anna shifted her weight form one foot to the other.

"I hope you got your papers in order, Steven, because you will die today," the woman said and reached inside her bag. She brought out a remote control device with her left hand while keeping the knife in her right. A sound from the kitchen distracted her and she glanced over her shoulder.

Steve crossed the distance between them and grabbed the woman's hands. He used his body to push her backward until she came up against the wall.

"Steve…"

"In h…here, Duke!" McGarrett called and saw the anger in her eyes as he slammed her right hand against the wall. It took a couple of attempts before she released her hold and he turned all his attention to the device in her left hand. He knew what would happen if she managed to press the button and needed to stop her from doing that as Lukela and several other cops entered the living room area.

"Duke, get out of here! She's got a b…bomb set t…to go off!" McGarrett warned, relieved when Lukela managed to grab the device from her hand. She screamed in rage and struck out with her left heel, connecting with the inside of his knee. He didn't release his hold on her left hand, but felt something hard pressed against his side.

"Say good bye, Steven!" she whispered and shoved him away as she brought the small weapon up toward him. Steve reacted instinctively and managed to get his hands on the weapon as she tried to get it into position. He knew she was strong, stronger than a lot of men he'd fought, but his blood soaked the weapon and made it next to impossible to get a firm grip on it. He turned her wrist and heard her cry out as the weapon went off. Her body was rocked backward with the force of the bullet as her eyes grew wide with surprise. She stood, staring down at the blood on her blouse before frowning as her legs gave out and she toppled to the floor.

Steve managed to stay on his feet and saw the light go out of her eyes as she hit the floor. He felt someone grip his arm, but couldn't speak as he stared at the woman who'd done so much damage to his family and friends. Five-O headquarters was destroyed, but it could be rebuilt, yet the lives that were lost could never be returned.

"Steve, you need to sit down!" Lukela said as a cop handed him several towels.

"Is she…you ne…need to find the bomb…you ne…"

"We'll find the bomb, Steve, now sit down…"

"The ambulance is on the way, Lieutenant," a female officer told him as Chin limped into the room.

"You know Danny's going to love having you back," Chin said and eased McGarrett to the floor.

"Rachel will kill me if…if I get bl…blood on the sofa…Rachel and Grace okay?"

"They're fine. Janice took them to the hospital so you'll probably see them soon," Chin answered and tore McGarrett's shirt. The wound was nasty and blood flowed freely as he grabbed the clean towels and pressed them against Steve's abdomen. "Dr. Lewis is going to love this."

"Maybe you can fix i…it," McGarrett stammered as two paramedics entered the room with a heavily laden stretcher.

Chin stood up and moved out of the way as one paramedic moved to McGarrett and the other checked the woman. There was no mistaking the fact that the woman was dead, and he didn't feel any sympathy toward her. She'd killed several people that he knew of, and if Steve was right, she'd probably killed many more.

"She's dead," the man who checked Borchevsky said as they went to work on the injured man.

"Get a line in him," Patrick Mulder said as he lifted the towels and saw the wound that appeared to be around three to four inches and quite deep. He grabbed a sterile pressure bandage as his partner set up for an IV. "What's your name?"

"Steve McGarrett," the SEAL answered.

"Well, Steve, you're going to need stitches….any allergies?"

"Just bombs, knife wounds, and bullets," McGarrett answered, fighting to keep the pain from showing.

"He just got out of the hospital," Chin said when the man saw the healing wound. "He had his spleen removed after an explosion."

"We found the bomb in Mrs. Edwards' car, Lieutenant. I called in bomb disposal," an officer explained.

"Make sure you keep the reporters back and don't let anyone touch it until they get here," Lukela warned.

"Yes, Sir," the man said and hurried back outside.

Chin watched as the two men worked to stop the bleeding and glanced at the dead woman. It was a waste of a life, but at least now she would never hurt anyone else. The problem was there were plenty more where she came from and countless innocent lives would be lost until they caught them all.

Steve swallowed several times and felt a second needle inserted into his arm. He knew he'd lost a lot of blood and understood from experience the medics were worried about his blood pressure.

"Commander, I'm giving you some morphine to help with the pain and then we're going to get you on the gurney and get you out of here," the larger of the two men told him.

"Okay," McGarrett said and looked toward the body across the room. He could feel the darkness around him and closed his eyes as consciousness left him.

"Pat, let's get him on the gurney," Cliff Meyers ordered as his partner finished taping down the second IV line.

"On three," the man said as Duke Lukela moved to help them. "One-two-three."

Chin could do nothing to help and watched as they lifted Steve from the floor and placed him on the gurney. They strapped him down and made sure the equipment was secure before raising the stretcher and wheeling him from the room.

"Chin, you might as well go with him. I can handle things from here," Lukela said.

"Thanks, Duke," Kelly said and followed the paramedics out the main door.

"That's McGarrett on the stretcher!" a male reporter snapped and cameras were turned toward the ambulance.

"There's Kelly!" another shouted. "Lieutenant Kelly, can you tell us what happened?"

"Where are Mrs. Edwards and her daughter?" a female reporter asked as the police continued to keep them outside the gate.

"How bad is McGarrett hurt?"

"Does this have anything to do with the recent explosions?"

Chin ignored the reporters and climbed into the passenger seat of the ambulance as several officers cleared the driveway and road beyond the open gate. He could hear the reporters snapping their questions and knew they were just doing their jobs. Sometimes their job made them obnoxious and he hoped they wouldn't follow them to Queens.
