The Doctor was soon bolting down the stairs of 221B, quickly followed by River, then Clara, (Who was still trying to process what was going on) and before John realized it, he too was racing after them, even though his war injury made it a bit difficult.
Clara was the youngest out of all of them, thus, being the fastest, caught up first, but not before a panting John, put his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath. "Wait...Please!" He panted, and they all stopped at once, and looked back at the army Doctor. "Where are we even going?"
"Isn't it obvious?" The Doctor questioned, scratching his floppy hair. "We're going to see Sherlock!" He exclaimed with a grin, and snapped open the TARDIS doors. "
"And what? You were just going to leave me here?" John questioned, regaining his breath again.
"It's very dangerous where we're going." River warned.
John let out a slight laugh. "My dear sister, you're forgetting, I work with Sherlock Holmes."
A slight smile curled on River and the Doctors face, and they entered the TARDIS.
"Doctor?" Clara questioned him, quietly, and off to the side.
"Yes?"
"Where exactly are we going?"
"We're going to see Irene Adler."
"Who's that?" She asked her voice raising quite a bit.
River let out a low chuckle joining the conversation. "The woman." She added, while piloting the TARDIS.
And the Doctor added on to that. "Another person like him. One who's supposed to be dead, but isn't. The only woman he's ever felt anything towards."
"So she's his girlfriend, yeah?" Clara tried putting the pieces together.
But John just shook his head. "No, not his girlfriend." John added defensively, "And she is dead."
The Doctor and River chuckled simultaneously, looking at each other with a smirk curling on their lips. "Are you jealous Johnny boy?" River teased.
John crossed his arms and huffed, "I am not jealous! Last time he was with that woman, his senses were dulled." He pointed out bluntly. "I just don't want him to fall into a trap."
The Doctor smirked at him and nodded. "Whatever you say." He said in a non-convinced tone.
The TARDIS breaks squealed and jerked, before the Doctor knew they came to a halt. "We're here!" He exclaimed, jumping down the TARDIS steps to open the doors. They were at Irene's apartment. "Very nice driving Doctor Song." He straightened his bow tie, nodding to River, and River smirked at him with a teasing smile. "Thank you, sweetie."
John was the first to leave, and River and the Doctor just stood there, staring at each other for a minute.
"Ahem." Clara interrupted them, and they turned to look at her. "Are we going to see Sherlock or not?" She questioned, raising her dark brown eyebrows.
The Doctor nodded. "He needs to talk to John first, you go along, I'll be out in a minute, I have to talk to Professor Song."
Clara couldn't help but inwardly roll her eyes, but she did as he said, and went out to meet John.
As soon as the TARDIS doors shut, the Doctor looked at River with the most serious -almost angry- eyes, and then, River realized, he knew. He knew she was back from the library, and back for good. Because everyone else could see her. "Why?" He questioned, sitting down on one of the console chairs, crossing his legs, and just staring down. River thought it would break her heart. "Why didn't you come back to see me?" He looked up at her now, his eyes only slightly starting to fill. "How long have you been out of the library, River?" His voice was getting angry now, and he stood up again.
"How-Ho?" She questioned, but he cut her off.
"Your journal." He pointed to the blue book she had set on the console. "It's full. A picture is peeking out, and It's CAL. You only met CAL at the library. And don't tell me you've seen her before, because I know that look on someones face when they meet someone for the first time. You should know, you've seen it on mine, haven't you? And it killed you, so why? Why didn't you come back to see me Professor Song?"
River could see the rage in his eyes now, and took a deep breath before deciding to tell him everything. "Because you had lost me -and others you love- enough already!" She shouted back at him, then stepped back a minute, not really realizing that she shouted, and her eyes looked like a wounded lamb. "First the library, then Trenzelore. I didn't want to step back into your life if something was going to happen to me, you would break down, you already lost Amy and Rory, I thought you'd made good terms with yourself when I left, so I left it that way."
The Doctor looked at her with astonished eyes. He didn't know what was worse, losing her again, or having to live without her. He tried to find words, but his moth just gaped open, and River walked out of the TARDIS, putting a smile on her face to greet Sherlock, and the Doctor followed quickly behind.
