Finn sat up and inspected the rune markings on his arm. He touched the markings and winced as a small pain filled his arm. He looked around himself and saw that the bonfire he had set up was now just a pile of ashes. He then recalled his dream. Suddenly it wasn't about Marceline and him anymore. This was about all of Ooo. War was coming and it was happening soon.
He looked over at Isabel and sighed. What would he do with her? He couldn't just up and leave her. He reached over and shook her awake. She groggily opened her eyes.
"C'mon, we have to go." He told her
"Why?" She murmured sleepily
"Because we have to." Finn said as he stood up
Isabel tiredly rubbed her eyes and sat up. She let out a long yawn and slowly got off the grass. Finn then began to make his way back west with a weary Isabel in tow.
Back in The Candy Kingdom..
Several princesses surrounded a round table. On the table a map of Ooo rests on top of it. Princess Bubblegum is simply watching as the other princesses start the conference. She hadn't planned on having a conference but the other princesses did as soon as word of Finn's disappearance got out and that was merely a day ago. Princess Bubblegum was chosen to host the conference because she was widely renowned for her hospitality and good faith. But now she was trying her hardest to not break those two traits as her companions began to bicker on endlessly about Finn and his absence from the kingdoms.
"We need him back! We're defenseless without him." Slime Princess shouted
"And what do you suggest we do, send a search party after him?" Flame King said sarcastically
"I know you and Finn had a falling out but this issue is of more importance than some trivial romance that the two of you had. This is about his duty. He is the royal protector and hero of Ooo and he has abandoned us!" Slime Princess told her
"You make it seem as if evil is over the horizon when it doesn't. Ooo has entered a new era of peace. There's nothing left for him to do." Flame King replied
"A declaration of peace does not cease all evils, Flame King." Princess Bubblegum stated as she leaned forward in her wooden chair
"Yes. I can clearly see that because you still rule over your kingdom." Flame King replied
"It'd be best for you to watch your tongue and choose your next words wisely." A hooded man said as he emerged from the shadows
"And who are you to warn me?!" Flame King asked furiously as her flames grew brighter
"He is my personal guard." Princess Bubblegum told her
"I thought Finn was-"
"He was," Princess Bubblegum cut her off, "But now he's not."
Wildberry Princess was sitting in her chair twiddling with her thumbs. She then sneezed loudly. Everyone stopped arguing and looked directly at her.
"Excuse me. It seems that I have a cold." She said nervously
"It's alright, Wildberry Princess." Princess Bubblegum told her
"Does anybody mind explaining why Marceline isn't here?" Muscle Princess asked curiously
"She doesn't need to be here." Princess Bubblegum told her
"Why not?" Flame King asked
"She has no kingdom that resides within the province of Ooo so she has no reason to be." Princess Bubblegum told her
"That didn't stop her from coming to Princess Day with us." Wildberry Princess said
"That's because we invited her."
"But she's Finn's best friend." Wildberry Princess exclaimed
"I know she is. She already knows that he's gone so she doesn't need to be here." Princess Bubblegum cracked her knuckles
"I don't have time for this!" Flame King said as she rose from her chair
"Flame King, please sit down. We're not finished." Princess Bubblegum said
"I have a kingdom to rule over and it needs me."
"We all do, but we have to deal with this first. Finn was the champion of Ooo and now he's gone for the time being. So that means that we have to appoint a new champion in his absence." Princess Bubblegum told her
"Do what you want but I'm not going to sit here and worry about a deserter. He's gone and there's nothing else we can do!" Flame King said as she stormed out of the conference room and down the hall
"Why does she have to be so rash?" Princess Bubblegum sighed deeply as she leaned back into her chair
"It's alright princess." Princess Bubblegum's personal guard told her as he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder
Flame King stomped down the corridors and made her way out of the castle. She quickly shot off into the sky as tears began to fall from her eyes. She didn't want to be at the conference at all. She didn't want to hear about how Finn disappeared. She had been meaning to make up with him ever since she had broken up with him. She didn't like the fact that their friendship had diminished as soon as they'd broken up.
She still wanted to be friends with him but she never really had the courage to face him. Now she would never be able to because he was gone. As she flew she could feel the tears fall from her eyes. An ache began to form in her chest as she thought about the boy. It was too much for her to take. She landed in the middle of a field and stood in silence. Painful things began to fill her mind. She looked behind herself and saw something she wasn't expecting. It was Finn's old willow treehouse except it was in full bloom. It would've been perfectly normal except for the fact that it had bloomed now when winter was just around the corner. The pink tree swayed gently in the breeze as the sound of a viola played on.
"Are you okay, Flame Princess?" A voice asked
Flame King looked forward to see whose voice it was and saw Finn standing in front of her.
"Finn?" She whispered
Finn kneeled down and wiped her tears.
"Please don't cry." He told her
He disappeared in the wind and a familiar orange bulldog now stood in his place.
"Are you alright?" Jake asked her
"Yeah. Just a bit upset." She sniffled
"It's about Finn, isn't it?" He asked
"Do you know why he left?" She asked him
"It's complicated, Flame Princess."
"What do you mean?" She asked
"Finn needed some time to himself."
"Why?"
"Because things were just too much for him."
Flame King looked down at the grass and sighed. Jake continued,
"It's not your fault that he left."
"Whose fault was it?"
"It doesn't matter. It won't change the fact that he's gone."
"I bet it was that vampire girl!" Flame King spat out as her flames grew brighter
Jake yelled and jumped back.
"It wasn't her or you!" He told her
"You're lying!" She shouted
"I'm not!"
Flame King suppressed her flames and took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't be taking this out on you." She said
Jake sighed in relief.
"I should be taking it out on her." She said as she shot off into the sky
Darkness was falling across the earth now. The moon was rising and clouds were beginning to form. A howling echoed as Finn and Isabel stopped walking in the middle of a forest.
"We can rest here for tonight." He told her as he dropped his backpack
Isabel sat down and sighed quietly. A slight humming could be heard as Finn's rune markings lit up.
"What the?" He exclaimed
Isabel looked at him in surprise.
"What's going on with your arm?"
"I don't know."
Finn rubbed the markings and felt a slight heat coming from them. His arm slightly tugged him forward. He looked in bewilderment. It tugged again.
"Why's your arm doing that?" Isabel asked
"I..I don't.."
His arm tugged even harder causing him to fall over.
"H-Hey!" He yelled
"Maybe it's trying to tell you something." She said
Finn stood back up and walked a couple of steps forward. His arm pulled him again so he followed.
"Hey, where are you going?" Isabel shouted
"Uhh.. I'm gonna go gather some firewood." He answered as he jogged into the woods
"For some reason I don't believe him." Isabel told herself sarcastically
Finn grunted as he pushed past a couple of low hanging branches. The markings on his arm grew brighter as he made his way through the forest. He could hear the faint humming increase in intensity. He started cutting away the nearby branches with his katana. His curiosity about the humming was at its peak and he was growing more and more anxious about where he was going with each step he took.
He cut away the last branch in his way and came upon a clearing. In the middle of the clearing was a lake and a mysterious female figure standing right beside it. The lake was giving off a faint glint. He looked at the figure and took a step closer. The figure looked in his direction causing him to freeze. The figure was wearing a black and red striped jacket. She had long black hair and crimson eyes. She was something he could never forget. He could never forget her face but at this moment he wished he could.
"Finn?" She whispered
It was Marceline.
Hello again! It's been a while since I've posted a chapter and I am terribly sorry. A lot has happened throughout the past month. I had gotten a job so things are more difficult. Along with that school has been a pain with me doing a whole lot of work and such. On top of that somebody special to me moved away and things have been.. different.
Anyways, enough of that. I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter so leave a review if you did.
