Author's Note:

Hello all, here is the next chapter- admittedly smaller than the last. But other than meeting Pan not much happens in the book chapter. Three more chapters to go for this story.

I'll like to thank the people who took the time to review the last chapter. I have reached 300 reviews for this story, any feedback is greatly appreciated.

PAN

"This is not good," bellowed Zeus.

"This is bad," shouted Hades.

"Of course it is not good, we have to stop it," said Poseidon.

"You can't, however us demi-gods apparently can," stated Clarisse.

"We ran until we were exhausted. We had no destination, just to get away. We stopped in a tunnel of wet rock like part of a natural cave," explained Rachel.

"Annabeth had been crying the whole time we ran and when we stopped her head went between her knees and her sobs echoed down the tunnel," said Nico.

"Annabeth asked what they had done to Luke. What was wrong with him?" explained Rachel.

"Percy explained what had happened that we hadn't seen," admitted Nico.

"I couldn't believe that it was true. Luke wasn't gone he had come back to his senses when hit by the brush," stated Annabeth.

"I didn't think Luke was in control just that Kronos, wasn't completely settled in the body," explained Percy.

"Annabeth didn't like hearing that, yelling at Percy that he wanted Luke to be evil, while Percy retaliated stating that she was always defending him," informed Rachel.

"I knew him before and although I knew he was bitter towards his father and the gods…. I never expected that he would turn against his friends, especially Annabeth, she was like a little sister," admitted Thalia.

"Unfortunately we had to keep moving and we needed to get back to New York. But then Percy found a Rasta cap on the ground," said Nico.

"Is that Grover's?" asked Katie.

"Percy noticed on the muddy cave floor footprints like Tyson's and smaller goat hooves prints leading off to the left," reported Rachel.

"Percy wanted to follow and I quickly agreed, I had just lost one friend, I wasn't going to neglect the chance to find my other missing friends," admitted Annabeth.

"I thought that they had passed through recently and we followed the tunnel which was treacherous. It slopped weirdly and we spent more time slipping and sliding rather than walking," said Percy.

"It's been ages since we got out the slip and slide," exclaimed Travis.

"You do remember what happened last time?" asked Chris.

"No," responded Travis and Connor.

"There were so many arguments and fights that Chiron banned it," said Will.

"Because the Hermes campers refused to have their turn of carrying the buckets of water," said Clarisse.

"But we had to carry them up the hill," whined Connor.

"Because the start was up the hill," commented Katie.

"That was the best part of the slip and slide," stated Clarisse.

"Well now we don't need to carry buckets. Percy can use his water powers," said Travis.

"I will not, do you know how much effort that would take?" asked Percy.

"What is a slip and slide?" asked Nico.

"You have never been on a slip and slide?" questioned Thalia as Nico shook his head.

"You put a plastic tarp on a slope and run water or soapy water down it and then you slide down it," explained Annabeth.

"Sometimes you stop in a body of water," explained Chris.

"That sounds like fun. Can we do that?" begged Nico.

"It is really fun, but I can't be expected to move gallons of water up a hill," argued Percy.

"We could always do the buckets and hoses again," said Katie.

"Or we could give the Hephaestus cabin the plans for the slip and slide plumbing system we developed," responded Annabeth.

"You developed a plan…" questioned Clarisse.

"Yes but Chiron had banned the activity before we could implement it," grumbled Annabeth.

"That was because a certain daughter of Ares threated to blow up a cabin," said Will.

"She also threatened to chop certain appendages off," admitted Chris.

"Chris and Luke didn't want to risk that threat being true," dobbed Travis.

"So when we get back to camp, can we break out the slip and slide?" asked Nico.

"Yes, we'll ask Chiron," said Chris.

"Let's let Percy, Nico and Rachel ask…. More chance of it occurring," admitted Will.

"Why don't you ask Dionysus?" asked Zeus.

"Why should I let the brats have fun?" grumbled Dionysus.

"Because we have a better chance of Chiron saying yes than Dionysus," admitted Katie.

"If we have to as Dionysus…. Maybe others would be better to ask than Percy," laughed Rachel.

"We should get back to the story," said Annabeth.

"We finally found ourselves in a room with an underground river and on the banks Tyson was cradling an unwell Grover," explained Percy.

"They had come across many monsters and men with swords but had escaped. When they had come across that room Grover got excited stating that they were close… before passing out," explained Annabeth.

"I noticed at the other end of the cavern was an entrance to another cave that was flanked by columns of crystal that could have been diamonds," described Percy.

"Diamonds, did you bring any back?" questioned Connor.

"In the middle of a maze trying to get back to prevent a war…. Why would I stop to get crystals that could be diamonds?" asked Percy.

"Diamonds are a girl's best friend," said Katie.

"People die while trying to find diamonds….. Except if we had stopped it may not have been us that died," remarked Nico glaring.

"You just knew something powerful was beyond that doorway," said Rachel.

"Who could it be?" asked Aphrodite.

"This was Rachel's first time in meeting Grover and Tyson," pointed out Apollo.

"Tyson liked Rachel, he told her she was pretty," admitted Nico.

"Annabeth didn't like that," said Percy who was slapped by said demi-god.

"Oh Rachel can have Tyson," suggested Aphrodite. Rachel just managed to hide her disgust.

"Virgin Oracle …. You can't partner her up," yelled Apollo.

"That doesn't mean she can't date," argued Aphrodite.

"We had to cross the river, the current was strong and the temperature was cold," complained Rachel.

"The water came to our waists," said Annabeth.

"For you… It came up further for me," grumbled Nico.

"I hated Percy at that moment as he stayed dry," grumbled Annabeth glaring at Percy.

"I could feel the cold," argued Percy "It was like wading through snow."

"Annabeth thought we must have been in an unexplored section of the Carlsbad Caverns," said Nico.

"That would explain New Mexico," commented Athena and Thalia.

"The caves are found in New Mexico," explained Chris to the demi-gods who looked confused.

"As we got closer to the entrance of the cave we could feel the power emanating from the next room," informed Rachel.

"It felt like my skin was tingling with living energy. My tiredness fell away, like I had, had a good night sleep. I also felt like I was growing stronger," explained Percy.

"The scent coming from that cave was of trees, flowers and a warm summer day," described Nico.

"Pan, you have found pan?" questioned Hermes eagerly.

"The walls of the cave glittered with crystals," said Rachel.

"Beautiful plants grew, giant orchids, and star-shaped flowers of Pentas, white lilies and hyacinths," described Nico "What I do listen to Persephone … Occasionally," he responded when everyone was gawking at him.

"Vines were bursting with orange and purple berries and were creeping amongst the crystals," added Annabeth "The floor was covered with soft moss."

"In the middle of the room was a roman-style bed with velvet cushions. Animals roamed around the bed, but they shouldn't have been there," said Percy.

"Like birds, lizards and animals that live above ground?" asked Dionysus.

"No they shouldn't have even be alive," explained Nico.

"There was a dodo bird, a woolly mammoth, something that looked like a wolf and a tiger and a large rodent that could have been the mother of guinea pigs," explained Percy.

"I thought that was Circe," muttered Connor.

"Wow…. You saw a dodo and a woolly mammoth," said Katie in awe.

"It was a humming dodo bird. It was humming it's a small world," said Percy.

"It was not…" scoffed Travis.

"Dede did hum, he also hummed Kumbaya," reported Nico.

"On the bed was an old satyr. He had eyes the colour of the sky. His curly hair was white as was his beard. Even his goat hair was frosted with grey," described Percy.

"His horns were enormous and curved. There was no way he could hide them," said Nico.

"Grover knelt by Lord Pan's bed who smiled with sadness as he stated that he had waited a very long time for the dear, brave satyr," reported Annabeth.

"Pan was waiting for Grover?" questioned Hermes.

"Pan laughed when Grover confessed that he had got lost. When Pan laughed it was like the first breeze of springtime, filling the room with hope," explained Percy.

"Pan looked tired, his whole form shimmered as if he was made of mist," said Rachel.

"Pan explained that the cave we were in was one of the last wild places. That his realm above was disappearing and only pockets remained. That the cave would stay undisturbed for a little longer," said Annabeth.

"Why do I get a bad feeling about this?" moaned Hermes.

"Grover wanted Pan to return with him as the Elders would never believe him. Pan could save the wild," explained Rachel.

"Pan stated that Grover was so young but so good and true. That he had chosen well," explained Annabeth.

"That is great praise," said Hestia.

"Chosen well… I don't understand," said Hermes but some were beginning to understand what was occurring.

"Pan admitted that he had slept for many aeons. That his waking was shorter each time and he was near the end," stated Percy.

"He had tried to tell the world two thousand years ago," admitted Nico.

"Pan had announced it to Lysas who lived in Ephesos to spread the word," informed Rachel.

"The old story. The sailor who heard a voice cry out that the great god Pan is dead as he passed Ephesos," gasped Athena.

"The satyrs never believed or accepted his passing," stated Dionysus.

"Which delayed the inevitable and only prolonged his long, painful passing into dark twilight sleep," informed Nico.

"Grover was informed by Pan that he had to accept the truth," explained Rachel.

"Nico confirmed that Pan was dying and should have died a long time ago," explained Annabeth.

"What we were experiencing was more like a memory," admitted Nico.

"But Gods can't die," exclaimed Connor.

"But they can fade when everything they stood for is gone," responded Hestia.

"Pan said that the wild was so small now, so shattered that no god could save it, his realm was gone," explained Rachel.

"Grover was given the task of carrying a message to the satyrs, dryads and other spirits of nature, that the great god Pan was dead," reported Percy.

"Pan informed Grover to tell them that they had stop waiting for someone to save them. That they had to take up Pan's calling themselves," said Rachel.

"Reminds me of a self-help book," muttered Chris.

"Grover was told to be strong, that he had found Pan but now he had to release him. His spirit could no longer be carried by a god. It needed to be taken up by all, everyone, Satyrs, half-bloods and humans," explained Percy.

"Reminds me of a motivational and inspirational speaker," muttered Will.

"Pan had messages for all of us. To Percy he said that he knew he had his doubts, but that when the time came he would not be ruled by fear," remarked Annabeth.

"To Annabeth he told her that her time was coming. That she would play a great role, though not the role she imagined," informed Rachel.

"He told Tyson not to despair as heroes rarely live up to expectations but his name would live among the Cyclopes for generations," said Nico.

"Pan told Rachel that although she believed she couldn't make amends, she was just as important as her father," admitted Percy.

"That's for sure – Oracle of Delphi," stated Apollo.

"Pan told me to look for opportunities as they would come," said Rachel.

"Who is your father?" asked Athena.

"Mr Dare," answered Chris.

"My dad is a famous businessman," explained Rachel with a sigh.

"You're rich," questioned Travis.

"I was trying to keep that from the Hermes campers, they will steal my belongings and try to sell them," groaned Rachel.

"We wouldn't," stated Chris frowning with the unbelieving looks he was receiving.

"Where would we sell your stuff, we can't access e-bay," grumbled Travis.

"So that's why the chauffeur helped, you just mentioned his name," said Hera.

"I hate having to name drop," admitted Rachel. "My dad is a land developer, he flies all over the world looking for undeveloped land."

"So he buys up the wild," said Hermes.

"Yes, I hate it. He builds ugly subdivisions and shopping centres," replied Rachel.

"You can't blame yourself for what your father does," said Hestia.

"Otherwise we can blame Hades, Poseidon and father for Kronos," laughed Thalia ignoring the glares she received.

"Pan asked Grover if he would carry his message. He was the strongest and bravest Satyr," said Percy.

"He didn't always look it," muttered Clarisse.

"His heart was true and he believed in Pan more than anyone else had," explained Percy.

"The council of Elders wouldn't like to hear that," said Dionysus.

"Which is why Grover had to be the first to release Pan," commented Nico.

"That would be hard," admitted Artemis.

"Pan said that the spirit of the Wild must pass to all of us now. We had to tell those who find Pan to take up Pan's spirit. To remake the wild, in time, in our corner of the world as we couldn't wait for anyone else to do it for us," explained Annabeth.

"Reminds me of an environmentalist," mumbled Chris to Will.

"Well he is the God of the Wild," whispered Will.

"Grover released Pan, giving him his final blessing," informed Rachel.

"Pan dissolved, white mist divided into wisps of energy," described Percy.

"Weren't you scared?" asked Katie.

"No it was different than the energy I had seen with Kronos," explained Percy.

"A curl of smoke entered our mouths, but Grover got more," explained Rachel.

"The crystals dimmed, the animals turned grey and crumbled to dust. The vines withered and we were alone in a dark cave with an empty bed," informed Nico.

"We exited the cave to tell the world that the great god Pan was dead," said Annabeth.
