So after all that fluff, I need to get back to the plot or this story will never end XD
He places a hand on top of her head.
"Must you fight the titans again? Aren't you scared?" Alice asked.
"Of course not." Lorenzo answers reassuringly.
"If I remembered correctly, you peed in your pants the first time you saw them." Rivaille commented.
Lorenzo nudges Rivaille's sides with his elbow.
"He's just kidding, aren't you Rivaille?"
Rivaille shoots him a glare. Lorenzo returns him an apological look, he hinted through his eyes a request, a request not to make him look bad. They turned their attention to Alice who had a sad expression across her face.
"Hey, we're going to be fine. You kno
w I killed 7 titans in the last expedition." Lorenzo said.
"Of which 6 I assisted yo-"
Lorenzo silenced Rivaille's mouth with his hand.
"So as you can see we're perfectly fine." Lorenzo smiled.
Rivaille gives Lorenzo's shoulder a light pat.
"We've got to go." Rivaille whispers.
Alice flings her arms around them in a hug.
"Be safe ok?" She whispers into their ears.
"Yeah, we'll be back before you know it." Lorenzo says.
Alice unattached herself from them and lands back on solid ground but she could not dodge Rivaille's unforeseen attack. He gave her a light flick to the forehead.
"What was that for?" Alice asked as she held both hands against her forehead.
"Make sure to keep out of trouble." Rivaille said.
Her mouth slowly forms into a smile.
"I will."
Both of them turned around and waved goodbye. Alice returns it by waving her hands above her head.
Alice's POV
I felt like crying. The thought of losing both of them ran through my mind but I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to worry them. I prayed silently in my heart that they'd come home safely.
I lost my family once, so please don't take them away from me again.
I stood there watching them leave until they disappeared beyond the horizon, even after they were out of sight, I stood there staring at the same spot. Silently, a tear slipped down my face.
Please… please let me see them again.
Lorenzo's POV
The situation on the battlefield was intense. I watched my comrades die one by one in front of me, looking at them helplessly unable to save them. I sympathized with them, they probably had family waiting for them to come home but even so, I couldn't let my emotion sway me. I had to focus on the mission or else the dead would have died for nothing. I looked over to Rivaille who was riding next to me. As usual, Rivaille looked cool, collected and calm. As expected of him, his expressionless face never wavered despite the grim situation. Suddenly, I noticed a 15 meter aberrant titan running straight for us. I knew we couldn't avoid fighting it. The left flank had been holding out pretty well but somehow this one managed to slip through the formation. I took out the red flamed canister from the pouch and loaded it into the rifle. I aimed it to the sky while covering one ear. Then, I released the trigger. The sky was filled with a single line of red smoke, soon those nearby relayed the message by firing a large wave of flares.
I called out to Rivaille. "15 meter aberrant at ten o'clock!" He looked at the direction pointed out and nodded.
I stood up and balanced myself on my horse, using my maneuver gear I landed myself on to a nearby tree branch. I looked over to where Rivaille was.
Wait, what is he doing? Why wasn't he following our plan?
Uneasiness settled into my heart.
Something is not right.
It took a little observing to realize that his gear was malfunctioning. He drew his blades out and started charging towards the titan.
Is he crazy? Don't tell me he's planning on fighting it himself like that?
I rushed to assist him. The deviant suddenly gained a burst of speed. I used more gas to catch up.
Please let me make it in time.
My heart beat along with adrenaline rush, the only thing in my mind was to save my best friend.
"Rivaille!"
Everything happened so fast, all I could remember was screaming his name. The blood and lots of it, my body went numb. Even so the first thought that came to my mind was, was Rivaille alright?
"Lorenzo!" I heard Rivaille's voice but it was filled with panic. I wanted to reply him but I just couldn't, my voice couldn't escape from the grasp of my throat. The pain surged through my body but it slowly faded, along with my consciousness.
"Lorenzo." Rivaille said as he rushed to my side. "You're bleeding! We need to stop the blood." (Way to go Captain obvious! Or should I say Corporal obvious. LOL, ok I'm not funny…) He took out a cloth and used both hands to apply pressure on the wound. "You idiot! Why did you do something as reckless as to jump head on? I could have handled it even if you didn't do that!"
"I-I guessed I panicked." My voice came out weak.
"Save your strength."
"Rivaille, thank you."
"I said stop talking you idiot!"
"You've always been helping me, you cheered me up during the painful times even if you do do it in ways that it's hard to tell."
"Stop talking like that. Where did all the confidence from this morning go?"
"Will you tell Alice that I'm sorry?"
"Lorenzo! Stay with me! You can't die on me! You've got to live! What am I suppose to tell Alice?"
"Rivaille… please live on… for me."
"… I will." Rivaille took my hand. "We're best friends after all." (Lorenzo got friend-zoned!)
"Thank you… you're the best friend I could ever ask for." My voice slowly faded. Everything turned blanked to me, my vision turned cloudy and I lost the strength to open them, slowly my body felt cold and disconnected to the world.
Rivaille's POV
Lorenzo's voice faded, I kept calling out his name but it was futile. I knew that he was no longer able to answer me. He looked at peace, his eyes were closed and he had a smile plastered on his face. Just like the idiot he was. I released his hand and they fell on the ground. I realized that my hands were soiled with blood. It made me remembered about my past, my hands trembled. It wasn't just my hands that were covered in blood, my clothes and the entire ground around us was soaked in his blood. Blood! Blood everywhere!
Calm down.
I repeated those two words in my head. I stood up, and draped his arm over my shoulder. He was heavier than I thought.
I should have made him lose weight.
I whistled for his horse and it ran right over. It nudged it's muzzle against it's master's face. I patted it's head and whispered to it.
He's gone, I'm sorry I couldn't protect him.
It looked like it understood what I had said to it, it responded by licking my palm. It almost seemed like it was comforting me. I placed Lorenzo's body on top of it and climbed on top of my own horse. I held its reigns and made them throttle side by side.
Alice's POV
I sat on my bed with a book laid in front of me but in reality I was not interested in the book. My mind could not grasp a single word which caused me to re-read the same sentence over and over for the past few minutes. I sighed and laid back. My mind was filled with thoughts of Rivaille and Lorenzo. How where they? Are they alright? Are they feeling cold? Do they like pancakes? I shook my head, I shouldn't be thinking so much. I had to distract myself but reading defiantly wasn't helping. I grabbed Eren who was lying next to me. I buried my face into its tummy.
"Hey, Eren. What should I do?" I looked at him as I asked but he just stared at me with it's beady eyes. "Not answering, huh? Alright, alright. I'm sorry I left you behind when I went apple picking."
Asking him was useless. He was giving me the cold shoulders. I traced my hand along the stitches that Rivaille sewn.
"They're going to be alright, right?"
I hugged Eren tightly against my chest and closed my eyes. I don't know when but I ended up drifting off to sleep. I had a weird dream but when I woke up I couldn't remember what it was. Speaking about waking up, I woke up because I felt someone shaking me. I opened my sleepy eyes to find Nina hovering above me.
"Alice?" She called out.
"Yeah?" I answered sleepily.
"They're back…"
"They are?" I sprung up.
"Yes but…" Her voice trailed off I didn't know why but I darted outside. That's when I found out why Nina had a hint of sadness in her eyes.
I opened the front door to find Rivaille standing in front of it. Without hesitation I hugged him, I was so happy that he was here.
"You're back! You're earlier than I expected! Wait… Where's Lorenzo-nii?"
Rivaille looked away for a moment.
"Alice… Listen to me calmly."
I shook my head. No… no… I knew what was coming, I heard that line before. Tears formed in my eyes, I covered my ears with my hands.
"I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear it." I sat down on the floor and buried my face in my knees.
"Alice…" He placed his hand on my head.
"This is not happening!" I screamed as I stood up. "He told me he was coming back! I don't believe it!"
"I'm sorry. I really am."
"No, I don't believe you… I won't believe it!" I ran back in the house and darted upstairs. I went to my room and shut the hatch. I jumped into bed and buried my face into Eren. I cried.
"I'm really sorry Rivaille. She locked the door, It doesn't seem like she wants to talk to anyone right now, you must be tired from the expedition. Do you want some tea?" Nina said.
"You don't have to hold back either. It must be hard on you." Rivaille said.
Tears fell from her face. Her façade had been broken.
"He really was a good boy." Her voice trembled.
Rivaille hugged her, she buried her face.
"He didn't deserve any of this." She cried
After calming Nina down and bringing her back to her own room he went back to the stairs that led to the attic.
He knocked against the wooden hatch.
"Alice." Rivaille called out to her.
She heard him but she ignored his call.
"Alice." He called out again in a louder voice this time.
Still she refused to answer him.
"I'm sorry… I couldn't protect him…I really am. You know, he died protecting me? Even though, I didn't really need it. Well that guy's an idiot….but he cared about you and me more than anyone. So wouldn't you come see him one last time?"
No response, huh?
Rivaille turned around and made his way down the stairs until he heard pounding of feet getting louder from above. He turned back again, the hatch flew open and Alice jumped out and into his arms.
"You idiot! You could have fell down the stairs."
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry I didn't listen to you. It's just that I didn't want to believe it. I didn't want to believe that he was really gone. I'm sorry, so please don't leave me!" She started wailing in his chest.
He patted her head. For a long time, Rivaille let Alice cry her eyes out in his chest, he didn't say a word, it wasn't that he couldn't find the words to say more like he felt like there was nothing he could say ,he just stood there silently patting her head.
I hope you're in heaven with Mama and Papa. Thank you for looking after me and please continue to do it from where you are now. This is farewell until we meet again. Bye-bye, Lorenzo-nii. I'll never forget you.
I'm sorry guys I really didn't want to do this but I had to! I really liked Lorenzo, I think I may even like him more than Alice, he's the best male OC I ever created. He was an easy character to write cuz just like him, I have a sister complex with my older sister. XD It was fun writing him, he was the only person that could make fun of Rivaille without losing a tooth. D: But if I didn't do this it would mess up the future plot. Yes I already planned on killing him off a loooonnngggg time ago and i'm not proud of it.
Just a warning but sadly the next chapter is not a very happy chapter either. I feel so gloomy right now. If you need me I'll be crying in my room now with my stuffed dog named Rocky. - true fact.
And another thing that pisses me off is that I keep spelling Nina as Nani. Urgh!
