I decided to split the chapter as I think it'd be mean to throw all dem feels together . I hope this chapter lighten's the mood. ^^
I DO NOT OWN SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN!
Three years have passed and our young recruits have trained hard for this day. Going through gruesome training day after day, facing life and death situations, some even died but those who surivied did not give up. They had their ups and downs but with their friends and their support somehow they made it this far. With that bonds were created, friends, healthy (ok maybe not) rivalry and maybe even a little romance?
"I can't believe we're graduating today!" Alice cried as she stretched her arms.
"Yeah, it felt like only yesterday Jaune got his ass kicked." Julie said only half-jokingly.
"Hey!" Jaune cried.
"I can't wait to get away from you people." Tanya said.
"Don't start fighting on the last day." Nicholas interrupted before another full blown argument began.
"All jokes aside. Time sure flies…" Alice remenecess
"It does." Julie said.
They began approaching the notice board. Hundreds of trainees have already crowded it, causing an unapproachable wave.
"Urgh, I'm starting to feel nervous about the results…" Alice said as she lurched her stomach.
"Don't worry I'm sure you'll do fine." Nicholas assured.
"Yeah! Don't worry about it." Julie followed after.
"Look at the bright side. There's no way you'll be last with Jaune here." Tanya said.
"Is it just my imagination or are all of your insults always targeted at me?" Jaune asked but got no reply. (It's not your imagination Jaune…)
"That's easy for you to say. You guys did great during our training, it's obvious you'll be in the top 10 or maybe even top 5!" Alice said.
"You did great too." Julie comforted her.
"Yeah, you have a chance to be in the top 10."
"You failed in the balance and hand to hand combat training." Tanya said bluntly. "But I guess you did do well in everything else."
"Wow… That's probably the nicest thing you've ever said to me Tanya!" Alice exclaimed.
"Probably the nicest you've ever said in your life." Julie rolled her eyes.
"Well I'll give credit when it's due. Got a problem with that?" Tanya said while her face turned red. (Oh Tanya… you're such a tsundere.)
"Alright! Thanks to you guys I think I can have a bit more confidence!" She smiled as she made a little fist pump with both her hands.
She ran up ahead of her friends and took a deep breath before turning around.
"Come on let's go check out the results!" She said as she excitedly ran ahead.
"Hey, wait up!" Julie shouted as she ran after her.
She stood there in the back of the crowd, trying to squeeze her way in. She put her hands out in a swimming like position and began pushing her way through the wave of people. Finally, her hard work gets paid off. She gets near enough to read the names on the list, only the top 50 names were posted out. She looks for her friend's names, it wasn't hard as they were all in the top 10.
"Nicholas. You got first!"
"Seriously?" Nicholas shouted from behind.
She couldn't see his face but judging from his voice she could tell that he was happy.
"Tanya got second! And Julie got third!"
"That't only expected." Tanya said.
"I can't believe I lost!" Julie cried out of frustration.
Her eyes wandered around the board.
"Jaune's… 48…"
"What? No!" Jaune cried out.
"Look at the bright side at least you got ranked." Nicholas comforted his friend.
"What about you Alice?" Julie said as she manages to squeeze in the crowd.
"Hmm, let's see."
She started searching her name in a descending order. It took a few minutes to notice but when she did she froze.
"Alice what's wrong?" Julie asked.
"My name…"
"What about it?"
"It's not on the list!"
"What? Are you serious?!"
"I can't find it!"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes! I looked for it!"
"I don't believe it! There's no way you can be worst than Jaune!"
"But it's not anywhere on the board!"
"Hey your name's over there." Nicholas pointed out as he managed to get a standing spot next to her.
Her eyes followed the direction of where his finger was pointing out to.
"You got 8th!" Julie exclaimed. "How could you have missed that?"
"… I didn't check the top 10 because I didn't think I'd get on it."
"Well you are!" Julie laughed. "Alice you're kind of an airhead sometimes you know?"
Night drew near and the proper ceremony took its place. The instructor and a few other supervisors stood on the stage in front of them. The trainees stood in neat rows with the top 10 standing at the front. The long dreadful speech began and of course not all were listening nor keen in the entire ceremony.
After all the formal stuff ended, the graduates had their part of fun. Drinking and chatter, a well deserve treat for their long and hard work.
"So where are you going after this?" Jaune asked.
"The recon corps. I decided on it before I even entered." Nicholas answered.
"What?! You're the top of the class and you want to end your life so quickly? The only reason I joined the military was so that I could get into the Military Police but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anymore." Jaune said. "What about the rest of you?"
"I'm also going to join the Recon corps!" Alice said.
"Same." Tanya replied.
"I'm joining the Military Police…" Julie said.
"I don't get why you want to risk your life like that! If you wanted to join the Recon you should have given me the position of being in the top 10. Do you know how many of us would kill to get into the military police?! It's useless! No matter how hard you train there's no way you can beat the titans! It's better to just stay in the inner walls where it's safe!" Jaune said.
"So what? Just because we don't stand a chance you're just going to run away? If everyone thought that way humanity is truly doomed!"
The whole room turned silent. All of their eyes were fixed on the red headed boy.
"A-ah, anyway. Let's have fun. It's our last day as trainees after all." Alice said trying to break the heavy atmosphere.
Everyone turned back and continued on with whatever they were doing before.
"T-thanks…" Nicholas said.
"It was nothing. Anyways, let's not talk about this anymore." Alice said.
"Yeah, you're right it's ruining the mood." Jaune said. "I'm sorry about what I said Nicholas."
"No hard feelings."
That night…
Not being able to sleep due to the excitement and nervousness, Alice snuck out of her bed and went for a walk. Of course not unnoticed by her friends, but they decided to leave her be as they themselves had some thinking to do.
She opened the door only to be greeted by the cold night air. She decided not to tie her hair up in her usual side ponytail as she felt that it was unnecessary to do so when she was only going out for a short while. She spotted a familiar figure not far off. She ran to take a closer look, not wanting to be mistaken and ending up in trouble.
"Nicholas!" She shouted in a low whisper.
"Ah, Alice. Couldn't sleep either?" He replied hearing the familiar voice.
"Yeah, guess I'm excited for tomorrow. You too?"
"Yeah…" His voice trailed off.
"Hey Nicholas. Don't think too much about what Jaune said."
"I'm not."
"Really?" She held on to the 'ly' just a little longer than normal.
"Okay okay fine. You got me. I was thinking about it a little."
"I knew it!" Alice laughed.
"Was it that obvious?"
"Pretty much."
"Thoughts so." Nicholas sighed.
"You know, I thought what you said was cool. I wouldn't have had the courage to say all those stuff."
"Thanks… Oh yeah, by the way. I was just wondering but why did you choose to join the Recon?"
"It's nothing special, it's a rather selfish reason…"
"How bad could it be?"
"I don't want to see anyone having the expression of losing someone. It reminds me of my old pitiful self. It makes me remember how useless I am."
"You're not useless. If you were you wouldn't have came here in the first place. But I know that feeling. When I lost my father, I couldn't do anything. That's why I'm going to make a difference by joining the Recon so I can protect my family."
"You really love them don't you?" Alice smiled.
Nicholas face reddens.
"They're family after all." He avoided her gaze.
Silence slowly sipped in as they enjoyed the cool breeze.
"H-hey you know…" Nicholas began. He scratched his head and looked away. "You look pretty with your hair down."
"Huh?" Alice said, her face turning red.
"I-I mean you've always looked pretty. It's just that you look better." Nicholas said in a flustered as his face turned redder than before.
"D-don't flatter me too much, I'll turn self-centered!" Alice said as she cupped her face.
"I-I'm not!" He turned to her. "I'm not. You really are beautiful." Realizing what he had said he quickly turned around not wanting her to see how embarrassed he was. "W-well, good night. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow."
"Y-yeah. G-good night."
Nicholas hurried off to the boy's dormitory, leaving the confused, blushing and flustered Alice alone.
The next day…
"You're enlisting in what?" Nicholas said out of shock.
"What? I can't join the Recon Corps?" Jaune asked.
"No no, it's not that. It's just that yesterday you were going on and on about dying early."
"It's my decision, isn't it?"
"I guess he listened to your amazing speech last night." Julie said.
"Shut up!" Jaune said with his redden cheeks.
"Don't be so shy about it. Well, you're not the only one." Julie said.
"You're joining the Recon too?" Alice cried.
"Don't get me wrong, I wasn't touched by your speech. I'm only joining because none of my friends are going to the Military Police."
"Julie…" Alice smiled. "That's great! That means we're all enlisting into the Recon. Now none of us will be separated."
"Hmph. Guess I'm forced to look at your pitiful faces a little longer." Tanya said.
Even though it was not hinted in her voice, Alice could tell that her friend was actually relieved to hear that.
That night was the night that the trainees were forced to choose which branch they were going to join. They were ordered to line up before the stage. A blonde haired man took his place on the stage and began by introducing himself. He was no other than the commander of the Recon Corps. He began explaining figures of how many percent the survival rate was. After that, it wasn't a surprise if no one wanted to join. Those who weren't interested were asked to leave and to no one's surprise nearly everyone started leaving. Doubt started to fill everyone's mind.
Alice began thinking.
Do I really belong there? Can I really do it? I didn't think about it this far… I might die. It's not too late to join the Military Police.
"If you're scared just ran away." A voice spoke.
Alice looked up to find Tanya standing next to her, her eyes were filled with determination.
"Aren't you scared Tanya?" Alice whispered.
"Of course I am! Who isn't? But I'm not going to run, I made up my mind, my resolve won't be broken so easily."
Alice looked down to her feet. She thought about it some more and she looked up unwaveringly. Then, she took her position and stood there firmly.
"I won't run away either." Alice said.
"You sure? You look like you're going to cry."
Alice sniffled.
"I'm not crying!"
The area was slowly cleared and the remaining few stood there with grim expressions.
"Can you die if you were ordered to?" The commander spoke.
"I won't!" Nicholas shouted in a loud voice.
Alice looked up realizing that all her friends were still standing in their spots.
"I see…" The blonde man said with a smile. "Then I welcome everyone here to the Recon Corps. This is the true salute. Offer your hearts."
He saluted. Mimicking him everyone did so too.
"Yes sir!" everyone shouted in unison.
"I did the right thing, right?" Jaune mumbled he looked like he was about to cry.
"This sucks…" Julie muttered.
"You have done well to endure your fear. You are brave soldiers." The man spoke with a serious expression. "You have my heartfelt respect."
"Salute!"
As ordered everyone stood in a straight line and did as they were told.
"I'm your squad leader Lex. Starting from today, you will be under me. Nice to meet you."
Training began for the new members of the Recon Corps. Instead of practical training most of it was memorizing long range scouting formations. After a long day of training, the recruits left the room and headed for the dining area.
"Argh, that was boring!" Julie cried.
Alice laughed.
"You were never really good at sitting down were you?" Tanya said.
"Hey kiddos!" Captain Lex called out. "Your uniforms are here!"
They handed each of them a heavy green hooded cloak with the symbol of the Recon Corps on its back.
"It looks good on me, huh?" Julie asked.
"Yeah. It suits you." Alice replied.
"It suits you perfectly, perfectly like a frog." Tanya said.
"What did you just call me?"
Just as their argument was about to start, something caught Alice's eye. She turned around just to make sure.
"Hey, I'll be right back." Alice said as she ran off.
"Wait Alice!" Julie called out.
Could it be?
She ran as she approached two persons both in full uniform.
"Rivaille!" She screamed as she pounced on him but he swiftly dodges her sudden hug attack and she lands on the ground. "Hey, why did you dodge? Is this how you treat me after being apart for so long?"
"Who are you?" The ravenette asks with an annoyed expression.
"It's me!"
"You know her Rivaille?" His brunette friend asks.
"No, I don't." He answers.
"How can you be cold? It's only been four years!" Alice said as she picked herself from the ground and dusts herself off.
His eyes widened a little.
"Could it be…"
"Yup, it's me Alice." She smiles.
"I didn't recognize you." Rivaille said. "Why are you here?"
"Can't you see?" She spins around to show him her new uniform. "I joined the Recon!"
"What?"
"The uniform fits me right?"
"Are you an idiot? The military is not a place to play."
"I'm not here to play! I'm here to kill titans."
"You really are an idiot, aren't you?"
"I'm not!"
"You're going to get yourself killed."
"I won't!" She pouted. "For your information I was in the top 10 of my class!"
Rivaille was a little shock, actually who wouldn't be?
"The Military Police would have been a better place for you."
"I came here with my own will."
"In that case, don't do anything stupid that will get yourself killed."
"I'll do my best!" Alice smiled. "Actually, I'm surprised that you're alive."
"Don't go killing me off."
"I didn't think that I'd see you again. I'm really glad."
"Are you crying?"
"I'm not."
Rivaille sighed.
"You really are still a kid."
"I'm not a kid!"
"Then act like an adult and dry those tears."
She wiped away her tears with her sleeves.
"But I'm really glad…"
"Yeah. Me too."
She looks up at him and smiles.
"But now that I think about it, you haven't changed much. You look nearly the same as you used to. Look I'm nearly the same height as you are."
Rivaille eyebrow twitched a little.
"Hoho, Rivaille's angry." His friend laughed.
"Shut up." Rivaille said.
"Ah, sorry about that was I interrupting your conversation or anything?" Alice asked.
"Oh no, it wasn't important. Are you a new recruit?"
"Ah yes, today's my first day."
"Oh, I see I see. What's your name?"
"I'm Alice Berux."
"So Alice, what is your relationship with our little corporal over here?"
Rivaille was pissed at the word 'little'.
"Corporal?"
"I'm talking about Rivaille."
"Wait, Rivaille is a corporal?"
"Yeah. Lance corporal Rivaille also known as humanity's strongest."
Alice stifled her laughter.
"Rivaille… humanity's strongest?" Alice said between her laughs. "That Rivaille?"
Everyone went quite.
"Wait… You were serious?" Alice asked.
"Berux." Rivaille said.
He had a dark aura around him.
"Y-yes sir?"
"Go run 40 laps."
Did anyone actually miss Rivaille? XD
