Fate's call

Author's note: This is the grand conclusion of the first arc. I promise to answer some of the questions and make the story finally start on the grand journey part of it. So please enjoy this conclusion to the first arc: Prolouge.

(Spira: the remains of Zanarkland.)

"What?!" everyone asked Kuja.

"You didn't think he was actually your ally did you? No he is an obsessive and psychotic godlike being who is compulsively trying to destroy people who dare to defy the overwhelming crushing hand of fate. We were revived by him from death to be used as simple servants to destroy you, your friends, and all the others who have dared to defy their fates. He however didn't think that we would despise being servants to a god. We fought back against him and started taking fate into our hands. The Void is a place free of fate and of Inako. Some of our members are insane and think of themselves as gods. Others are a bit more humble. We are all however wanting to stop Inako and consume the worlds into The Void to set them free from an unjust fate," Kuja said in an elegant voice.

As Kuja spoke he moved slowly closer to Kairi. The air slowly grew cooler as Kuja came slowly closer and closer to Kairi until he was within 3 feet of her. The bright sun finally started setting as Kuja began speaking again.

"So why don't you join us dear songbirds? You can be eagles and rise against the unjust fate you have forced onto you. So will you rise against your destined fates or stay with the dark god," Kuja asked.

"You have killed billions for your own gain!" Vaan yelled.

"And you think your dark god would do anything different? He intended to destroy Ivalice and consume the hearts and souls of all the living creatures there to force their fate onto them. You all avoided the fates that were picked for you and chose to survive. And all those who died will not be gone forever. They are just gone for a short time. They can be revived even beyond the phoenix downs strength. Tell me how do you intend to keep alive when your group as a whole only has one left and there are no more phoenixs left in existence. Just one life left to live and only one chance to bring the dead back. And we all know the failures of the Arise spell don't we Ashe," Kuja said as he looked at Ashe casually.

"Arise spell? Start making sense you... guy or girl?" Kairi asked in confusion.

Kuja looked at Kairi and said in an icy voice "You can't tell little songbird? Well I could answer questions but I don't want to spend time explaining things to you. Now what if I told you..."

As Kuja was speaking Vaan thought about what Inako had told him. All Kuja's words weren't making sense to him. Why would Inako tell him about some balls that could revive the dead and the worlds yet give him a 3 month time limit if he was lying to them. Was 3 months all the time he had left to live or was Kuja lying between his teeth to gain more allies for his group. After a few moments of ignoring what Kuja was saying Vaan came up with his own conclusion. He quickly cast the spell Thundaga on Kuja. The thunderbolt hit Kuja yet didn't seem to cause any major damage. Kuja turned towards Vaan with a look of anger on his face.

"Pestilent little boy!" Kuja said before shooting a fire spell at Vaan. The spell almost hit Vaan but he quickly jumped out of the way.

"I don't believe your words Kuja. Everyone get to the Strahl. I'm going to hold him off," Vaan said before Kuja scowled at him.

"I was giving you all the chance to join us and save more lives and this is how you thank my kindness. Fine then. If you want to die so badly I'll make your life's finale as quick as possible," Kuja said as he started to glow red.

"I'm staying to help Vaan. Basch get Penelo and Kairi to the Strahl," Ashe said as she took a more defensive stance with her sword and shield.

"I'm not letting you two fight him alone," Penelo said as she took out her spear.

"Well we are all in this till the end. Sink or swim I am not going to just leave my friends and allies to die," Balthier said as he aimed his rifle at Kuja.

Fran drew her bow back and prepared to shoot an arrow into Kuja's neck. "This one bathed in the mist," Fran said barely able to keep herself from going berserk from the strong amounts of magical mist that surronded Kuja.

Kairi drew the Oathkeeper keyblade and prepared to fight with her new allies. Kuja looked at them all before a small smile crossed his face. His body turned white with red feathers coming off of him as his skin turned extremely pale and his hair turned a brilliant shade of crimson. The aura of energy around Kuja started to make all the others quiver uncontrollably out a primal fear that none of them could explain. Kuja had used the ability to go into Trance: a powerful other form brought on by strong emotions and enables incredible amounts of power to be unleashed.

Kuja looked at Basch who was the first to charge in with his greatsword. A small chuckle came out of Kuja as he used the spell Holy to blast a hole through Basch's gut. Basch stopped moving for a moment to comprehend what had just happened to him when a second blast of the spell Holy took off Basch's head. Kuja smiled as the lifeless body hit the ground and he licked his lips. Ashe charged in at the same time as Balthier fired a rifle shot so Kuja used the spell Reflect so that the bullet bounced off of him and hit Ashe between the eyes. As the second body hit the ground Kuja used Firaga to burn Ashe's corpse. Vaan managed to get in close enough and cut across Kuja's back. All he had managed to do was cause some of Kuja's feathers to be knocked off. Kuja countered Vaan's attack by using a blast of Holy to send him flying back instead of killing him.

"Die you monster," Penelo yelled as tears ran down her face from seeing her friends die. She tried to stab Kuja in the face but the spear head of the Zodiac Spear broke on contact with Kuja's head. Kuja smiled before grabbing Penelo and snapping her neck with calm efficiency. He turned towards Kairi but a arrow hit his back and bounced off. He looked at Fran and fired a cast of the spell Blizzaga at her causing her to be completely frozen. He then fired a blast of Aeroga which shattered her. Balthier ran over to Vaan and picked him up.

"We can't beat him. He's too strong for us. Come on Vaan," Balthier said as he tried to get Vaan to stand up on his own. Kairi hit Kuja in the head with her keyblade. Strangely the keyblade hit actually hurt Kuja slightly. He backed up for a few moments before Kairi unleashed the spell Holy on him which made him back up an extra step.

"So this songbird can actually put up a fight. Or is it just the keyblade? That is it isn't it? You only have the power to fight thanks to that weapon. Without it you are as strong or weaker than the others. Well I think that I'll just end this," Kuja said as he rose to the air and gathered power.

Kairi was grabbed by Balthier who was dragging along Vaan. "Come on princess we need to get out of here. Vaan said something about reviving everyone in one go and while I'm not that willing to believe something Vaan has to say right now we are running out of time so it would be best to retreat," Balthier said in an angry tone of voice.

"Farewell Spira. You were known for many things but now you will be but a memory," Kuja said as purple energy formed in his hands.

Kairi started to run with Vaan and Balthier until they got to the Strahl. Vaan was emotionally distant and just stared into the distance muttering over and over again "2 wishes to bring everyone back. The balls are needed. 3 months left."

Kuja was almost finished charging his ultimate attack to fire upon the world of Spira and completely destroy it. Balthier made the Strahl take off and leave Spira while thinking of every way he would kill Kuja when he was able to fight him and win. He was going to avenge his friends that had fallen today and he was going to get answers one way or another. Kairi sat down and looked at the keyblade she had. It had been the only thing to even partially hurt Kuja yet it wasn't a significant amount of damage. She thought to the 4 that had died on the world fighting Kuja and thought about what had compelled them to die fighting against someone that powerful. She hoped that Sora was safe and that Kuja and Zeromus wouldn't find any more world that they wanted to destroy yet she knew that it was most likely a fools hope for that to happen. She sat in silence for the rest of the flight.

Kuja smiled as he fired a variation on the Ultima spell that he had gained with access to the void. This version first scorched the world of most life and then consumed the rest of it into the Void. As the world was consumed Kuja smiled and said "In the end we will win. And you dark god will have a front row seat to watching your plans crumble into dust."
