Disclaimer: I do not own Twilight! I do, however, own an adorable little kitten, Stella, the crazy plot twists and character changes I put these poor people through, and a couple more OC's I'm sure you'll meet soon. ;)
CHAPTER 8
STELLA'S POV
I released the hold I had on the family after taking a deep breath. I made sure they wouldn't be scared. The last thing I needed was for them to hate me after a good day of getting to know them. But to say they were shocked would be and understatement.
They all stumbled and looked around, confused. Nessie ran over to me and said, "What was that? I couldn't see anything. And then… Rose was…" she trailed off and backed up closely to me. I think the shock of her sobbing on the ground was starting to sink in.
I felt Jazz send out a wave of calm to the room. I looked to him and gave a silent thank you. He gave me a slight nod, but looked worried. He sent me a wave of curiousness, but I would talk to him later.
I held out my hand to Rose, offering to help her up, but she flinched at the sight of my hand and backed up into the wall. I crouched down and looked her in the eyes so she could see they were no longer black.
"Rose, I want to help sweetie. But I can't do that if you don't let me. I had to do that. They had to know, and you know that too. It's in their hands now. You can't do anything right now but change. Let me help you." I said softly to her. She slowly stopped crying and looked up at me. I held out my hand again. She looked at it tentatively but slowly took it. I helped her up and pulled her over to Emmett, who took a step back. I reached out and pulled him closer.
"No matter what was said, Emmett, you need Rose, and she needs you. Please. Take a break. Go on a vacation. Fix this. I'm sorry but I had to do this now or you would have snapped. So go pack your bags, old each other for a while, and fall in love again." I pushed Rose into his arms and they hesitated for a moment before hugging each other tight. I smiled then turned back to the family. They were all staring at me in shock except for Peter, Charlotte, Jasper, and Nessie, who were smiling at me.
Esme was the first one to snap out of it. She rushed forward and placed a hand on each of them.
"Go to the island. I'll make the calls." She said. I was a little confused but decided to save it for later. I walked over to Jasper and grabbed his hand. He sent me some comfort, and I relished in it. I didn't like doing what I had to do, but I had known for a while that I would have to do that. I overheard Peter saying that I would snap at her when I returned. I paid no attention to it at the time, telling myself I would never let myself be open to that heartbreak again.
"What just happened needed to be done. I understand it was confusing, and even though you might not like it, get over it." I said to everyone in the room. "It's what I do. I'm sorry if I have scared you. I try not to do it often, but sometimes it is needed. Many have not seen what you have seen. Whatever I tell you, I tell you in full confidence. Please do not repeat whatever you have seen or heard. I spent my entire existence protecting those I love from the people that would not accept who I am. If you cannot accept it, I will have to leave."
"Of course sweetheart." Esme said, stepping forward. "We might not understand it, but honestly, none of us had the courage to stand up to Rose and we are all happy you did."
"Thank you Esme. That means a lot."
We all kind of stood there, not knowing what to do. (AN: I honestly had no idea what to write so I'm just going to do a 180 with this right now because I feel like it)
"Jasper. I need to hunt. Would you like to take me?" I asked. His head snapped to face mine. "I'd like to learn how to hunt your way."
"Stella, I don't think I'm the best person to-" I cut him off with a look. We had discussed my feelings about him talking about his unworthiness. I would not stand for it anymore. The Major of the south should be in control of every situation, not doubting himself. "Of course." He finally answered.
"Jasper, make sure to check for any humans in the area." Esme said. She then looked to me. "You may be older than me, but you're still new to this lifestyle."
***~~~***Renesmee's POV***~~~***
I will probably never be able to think of Stella as my aunt. Not because I don't like her, it's just that she seems too cool to be my aunt. She seems really young too. Granted, my dad is 17 and Alice has the body of a 14-year-old girl. But she seems so happy. Happier than Alice? No. Wiser than Alice? Definitely. Her happiness seemed real. She was quiet, reserved; yet there was a fire in her eyes. I admired her.
"Nessie." My dad snapped. "I would appreciate it if your could keep your thoughts of comparison to a minimum, considering we just lost Alice."
"Jacob." I said, ignoring my dad. "Let's go for a run. I'm thirsty. And then maybe I can think in peace."
***~~~***Stella's POV***~~~***
"That was disgusting!" I yelled out, dropping the mountain lion. It smelled so revolting that I didn't even want to try it. Jasper had to kill it and bring it to me in order to get me to try.
"What are you talking about?" Jasper yelled. "That is like the most appetizing animal I've ever tried, right after Leopard."
"Whatever. You finish this. I want to spar." We sparred for about an hour when I realized something strange. I would always win against Jasper, but he was losing badly this time. It was like he was weaker somehow. It was almost as if a part of him wasn't there- his demon. And when he tried to calm me before I left, I was easily able to fight it. I also noticed that even from that one sip, I felt weaker.
"Jas, stop." I said. "When was the last time you slipped?"
"About two weeks before you came, why?" he answered.
"Did you feel stronger after you did?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"I think the animal blood is weakening you, and I'd like you to consider going back to humans." I decided to just rip off the band-aid and say it.
"What?! WHY?!" he yelled.
"I know you hate the emotions, but you could always hunt criminals like Peter and Char, it doesn't even have to be often, maybe just-"He cut off my rambling.
"Stella… I don't think the family will think this is a great idea. I mean, why do you even want me to do this?" He sighed and sat down with his head in his hands…
"I can't let you get hurt." I said quietly. "I would never be able to live with myself if something happened to you because I didn't help you." I knelt down in front of him. I grabbed his hands and forced him to look at me. "At least promise me you'll discuss it with Carlisle."
"Okay…I'll talk to him about it."
I sighed in relief. "Thank you."
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
We walked through the forest just wandering around, when we ran into Renesmee tearing up some trees with Jacob watching, clearly amused.
"Whoa whoa whoa…. little one…what's up?" I said smiling. Renesmee turned around and ran into my arms. Jacob immediately stood up, ready to attack if I lost control. I hesitantly wrapped my arms around her lightly.
"Sorry my dad just got me so mad! UGH! Why does he have to be so, so…UGH!" She yelled. "I get we lost Alice just recently, but I already consider you family. Is that so wrong?!" She started crying and I honestly did not know what to do. I had been near young children crying before, but this was different. I didn't know her. Jacob quickly took her into his arms. I realized they really were made for each other once she started calming down. I hoped the others were as accepting of me as Renesmee was.
