"Michael, Danielle, Dylan!"
The three Blofis kids shoved their way through the doorway, into the kitchen. Their mother, Erin, was leaning against the fridge, in the process of tying her long, red hair back.
¨Yeah?" Danielle asked, grabbing an apple from off the counter and biting into it.
"You know how Uncle Paul got married last year, right?"
Michael and Danielle nodded, while Dylan grunted his response.
"Well, his wife's got a son, and we're going to go over and meet him tomorrow, during dinner."
Groans came from all three teenagers.
"Mom!" Michael moaned. "That's so dumb, we don't even know them!"
Erin shrugged, "Too bad. That's what's happening. And I suggest you be happy about it, grandma and grandpa are going too."
When Friday rolled around, Danielle had been shoved into a dress, forced to do her hair and made to ride in a car for an hour and a half. She was grumpy, to say the least. When they finally got into the city, and drove into the Upper East side, she was ready to meet this kid, eat dinner, then leave.
Her family met her father's parents in the parking lot, and stiff hugs were exchanged. She loved her grandparents, but they were extremely uptight, and altogether unpleasant.
"Hello dear!" Her grandmother exclaimed, kissing her cheek and suffocating her in the stench of floral perfume. Danielle grimaced and hugged her back, glaring at her brothers, who were smirking in her direction.
Danielle's grandfather gave her a firm pat on the back, and a "how are you?" She assured him that she was doing well, and that her GPA hadn't budged since he'd last seen her. Her brothers couldn't say the same, but at least they had athletics to get them into college.
College. That was all her family talked about. They were a family of teachers, and her grandfather and father had doctorates, while her grandmother had a master's degree. Why they needed them in teaching, Danielle had no idea. They expected her to keep at least a 4.0 GPA, be a part of three clubs, and play softball. She was a college's dream, too bad she had no desire to extend her education past high school.
The family made their way into the apartment building complex, and eventually found the right door number. Danielle had met her uncle's wife, Sally multiple times, and had heard that she had a son, but she'd never met him.
Dylan rang the doorbell, and after a few moments of silence, the door creaked open. Her uncle's face appeared in the crack as he undid the chain, and let them in.
The first thing she noticed was that the apartment smelled like cinnamon. Candles burned in the entryway, and the best word to describe the home was 'cozy.' Sally stood behind Paul, and she appeared to have to teenagers beside her, but Danielle couldn't see past her uncle.
Paul welcomed them, and they walked into a small, homey looking living room.
"So, you all have met Sally, and this is her son, Percy his girlfriend, Annabeth Chase." The boy beside Sally waved, and the girl muttered a quick, "Hi."
Percy was tall, probably about six feet, with messy black hair and gorgeous eyes. Both he and his girlfriend had a deep tan, the kind you only get if you're outside like all the time. Annabeth was beautiful, but in an effortless way. She had curly, honey blonde hair and stormy eyes. They were an intense, calculating gray and Danielle couldn't decide if they were pretty or terrifying. Perhaps both.
Percy had an arm over her shoulder, but Danielle didn't think Annabeth was the type of girl who needed protection.
Her brother, Michael, muttered something like, "I wasn't allowed to bring friends," but no one paid him any attention.
Danielle's grandmother introduced them all, and the adults made small talk for a while, before Sally decided that dinner was ready.
Dinner was interesting, to say the least. Percy had completely baffled her family when he declared that he had no plans for college, something the Blofis family decided at age twelve. Annabeth had rolled her eyes and mouthed something to him, which caused him to make a face at her in protest. She appeared to slap his leg, but something else must've happened, because she looked like the hit had hurt her hand.
Everyone at the table was watching them as Percy gently took her hand and kissed it, giving her a goofy grin as he did.
Sally interrupted the two, and brought them out of their own little world by clearing her throat. Percy, embarrassed, made a comment on the weather, which led to teasing from his mother. They found out that while Percy and Annabeth had only been dating for a few months, they'd been best friends for years, and had had secret crushes on each other the entire time. By the time Sally was done telling them the story of "Percabeth," as she called it, Percy and Annabeth's faces were a brighter red than Danielle thought possible.
"Oh look!" Sally laughed. "We've embarrassed them!"
Once they were done eating, Percy invited them to play Call of Duty with him and Annabeth. Danielle wasn't very good, but she accepted, mainly so she wouldn't be alone with her grandparents and parents. The very idea was cringe-worthy.
It turned out that she didn't have to worry about being bad at the game, because everyone sucked compared to Percy and Annabeth. Annabeth would call out orders to her team, which was her and Percy, from her spot between Percy's legs. The defeat wasn't pretty. Danielle found herself feeling more at home with these kids she'd just met, than with her own grandparents.
Maybe, Danielle thought, this is what family feels like.
A/N: Meh. Not too happy with the ending, but oh well. I'm in history class, and this is what I've been working on all day at school, and I hope you like it! A bunch of people asked for a continuation on last chapter, so I delivered! (But, I had already finished another one, so I'm thinking of starting a little queue of one-shots to upload… May make more consistent uploads. I dunno.) We'll see. As always, leave me some prompts and ideas, because I need them like I need air! And if you read to the bottom, leave me a review with the phrase: 'Rick Riordan's a troll' in it, and tell me how long you've been following this story! :) Have fantastic days, you lovely people.
