At least this time, Percy had remembered their anniversary.
They had been having a perfectly nice dinner; he'd picked her up on time, taken Annabeth to her favorite restaurant, and had gotten a great table.
Annabeth was holding his hand across the table, her gray eyes locked on his as she talked about her art project that she was working on. She had decided to sketch a statue of her mother, and her teacher was amazed at how lifelike it was.
"Hey- it'll be good for mother's day," Percy said, making her laugh.
"I don't think I've ever sent my mom anything for mother's day… What about your dad? Have you given him anything for father's day?"
Percy shook his head. "I thought about sending him a seashell print tie once. I saw one in Macy's."
Annabeth smiled, "He'd probably like that."
He was about to reply, when someone shimmered into existence at the table beside them. She had her legs crossed, and was busy filing her nails. Her face and hair were constantly shifting, each one more breathtakingly beautiful than the last.
Annabeth turned around to see what he was looking at and bit back a gasp. She gripped Percy's hand tighter.
"Is that?" she hissed.
He nodded, "I think so."
The woman glanced up at them, and her face broke out in a flawless smile, her white teeth glinting in the setting sun's dim light.
"Percy, Annabeth!" she exclaimed, standing up and smoothing out her dress. "Hello dears!"
She slid into their booth and kissed each other their cheeks, "It's so nice to see you two!"
"Lady Aphrodite," Annabeth stammered. "It's a… it's a pleasure, but what are you doing here?"
Aphrodite placed a perfectly manicured hand over her heart. "Why, a love goddess can't just visit her favorite couple? She has to have a reason?"
Percy was about to mention that most of the time, when a god came to "visit," they wanted something more, but Annabeth dug her fingernails into his hand, glaring at him.
Aphrodite must have seen the interaction, because she sighed melodramatically. "No, I don't have a reason, other than to visit true love." Percy and Annabeth's cheeks flushed, and they avoided eye contact.
"I'm afraid Ares and I have just had a little quarrel, and I realized that I never congratulated you two in person! I've known for years that you were destined to be together, but you're even sweeter than I imagined!"
Their cheeks were even pinker than before, and Annabeth squeaked, "Thanks."
Aphrodite batted her long eyelashes, "Any time, darling. Now Percy, honey, you remember when I said that I'd be making your love life interesting?"
Percy nodded, and the goddess smirked.
"Don't think I'm done."
She faded away and soon, the only thing left of her was the smell of her perfume.
Annabeth raised an eyebrow at her boyfriend, "What'd she mean, that she's not done?"
He shrugged, but the concern was evident in his sea-green eyes, "I don't know… But nothing good."
