Dave lead the way through the sewers, soaking wet from the rain and the sewer water. He shook his head a bit, trying to get the water off. Dave turned and looked at John, who was shivering worse than him, even though Dave was the one without a shirt. "You getting cold?" Dave asked.
"Just a bit…" John replied before sneezing. "I'll be fine though." Dave looked John over and shook his head.
"Bull shit." Dave said, leaning a hand on John's forehead.
"I'll be fine you don't need to worry!" John said, even though his head felt warm to the touch. John looked away from Dave's glance.
"John f*cking Egbert. Look at me and say that to my face." Dave said, almost face to face with John.
"I…. I'll be fine." John said, averting his eyes from Dave's.
"Look at your leader, John. That is an order." Dave said, grabbing John's chin and forcing him to look at him. When their eyes met, Dave sighed deeply. "The first time I've lost a demon while being in some sort of control… Was Dirk. I will not lose another. Ever." Dave watched John's eyes widen as he said that.
"I… I'm sorry…. I didn't know…" John said. Dave simply shook his head.
"No… It… It was to protect you. It's not every day a demon catches an angel and makes them fall like you did." Dave said. John looked down at the ground between them.
"Yeah…. So I've heard…." Dave blinked slowly and tucked some of John's hair behind his ear.
"Sorry… That must still hurt… I mean… They did rip out your wings…" Dave said sympathetically.
"N-No… That pain is long gone…" John said before sneezing again. Dave petted his head slightly.
"Come on, let's get you home and warm you up." Dave said as they started walking again.
"Thanks…" Was all John replied with.
They finally arrived at the hideout and Dave knocked on the door. "Rose, answer the f*cking door!" Dave yelled.
Rose answered the door and smiled slightly at them. "Dave. John. Welcome back." Rose said, welcoming them in. Dave kicked his shoes off and grabbed one of his other shirts.
"Anyone else hurt? I mean besides John?" Dave asked.
Rose shook her head. "Everyone is alright. And I thought you said John wasn't hurt." Rose said confused. John grabbed a blanket and sat down in the nearest chair.
"Not too bad, just a bullet through the shoulder." Dave said, stepping over a sleeping Sollux. John yawned and slowly walked over to his bed. "Get some sleep, Egderp. It's almost morning and you've been up all night." Dave said. John nodded and laid on his bed, falling asleep quickly. Dave quickly grabbed an apple juice from the small fridge.
"So… Two hunters and a tamer, huh?" Rose asked Dave. Dave nodded and walked over Sollux again.
"Yeah. Not that bad though, seeing as there was a master there as well." Rose's eyes widened at him.
"Dave, I swear. You went through that much for him?" Rose asked, looking at John. Dave sat next to her.
"He risked his life for me, Rose. It's the least I could do… Besides… I… I love him…" Dave admitted to her. Rose sighed slightly, not that surprised by the confession.
"I see. An ex-angel and a demon. Sounds almost like a romance novel." Rose stated.
"Yeah…" Dave says before finishing his apple juice. "I know… It's stupid as hell."
Rose chuckled."It is interesting watching you two. I think he's getting used to being a demon, if even just a little bit."
Dave threw his empty apple juice pack at Eridan's head. "Yeah… But I had to order him to eat… That's not a good thing." Eridan glared at him a bit before throwing the pack away, earning a chuckle from Dave.
"Dave… He'd been a captive of hunters. He may not have had an appetite."
"I guess. Hey. Sollux is waking up…" Dave said, seeing the blue eyed demon opening his eyes.
"Hey guyth…" Sollux said. Rose smiled.
"Hello, Sollux." Rose greeted him. John stirred a bit from everyone talking. Dave pointed at John and growled a bit.
"John, go back to sleep, now."Dave ordered. John pouted a bit but laid back down and fell back asleep. Sollux grabbed his blue rimmed glasses and waved at Rose.
"Hey, Rothe…" Sollux said while standing up and stretching. Eridan casually looked at him. Sollux glared at him. "What the f*ck do you want?" He asked Eridan. Eridan simply glared back and went back to his book. Sollux sighed. "Thought tho."
Rose rolled her eyes and looked at Dave, who had leaned back in his chair. "You need to rest Dave." Dave shook his head. "No… Now that Sollux is awake I need to go with him to get food and shit…" Dave explained. Rose shook her head.
"Eridan and I can go get food with Sollux. You need your rest." Dave stared at her with wide eyes behind his shades before he started laughing.
"Eridan and Sollux on the same team?! You must have lost it!" Dave said while laughing.
"I can manage to keep those two in line thank you very much." Rose said, matter-of-factly. "You need your rest. A leader must be at his best, and frankly, right now, you're not at you best." Dave glares at her, hissing a bit.
"You better know what you're doing. But fine. You win."
"They'll be on their very best behavior, won't you two?" Rose asked the two boys, a slight glare in her eyes. Eridan gulped a bit before nodding while Sollux simply shrugged. Dave walked to his bed and laid down.
"Only if fithhbreathe will…" Sollux said, earning a slight glare from Eridan. Rose nodded.
"Good. Now."Rose looked over to Dave. "You and John get back to full strength. You're exhausted and John's a shivering mess. We shall see you later." Rose said as she left with Eridan and Sollux.
Dave watched them leave before turning and looking at John. Dave could tell John was shivering under the blanket. He sighed before taking his blanket and tossing it over John. John woke up and looked over at him. Dave blushed slightly and laid back down, looking away from him. "Don't get sick on me." John sits up slowly.
"B-But… What about you?"
"I'm a demon of the fire element. I literally have the flames of hell to keep me warm." Dave said. John pouted but slowly pulled the blanket over him. "Now get some sleep." Dave said, wrapping his tail around himself. There was silence for a moment before Dave heard John get up and walk over to his bedside. Dave looked over his shoulder. "What are you doing?"
John stared at him for a second before laying next to him, covering them with both blankets. "There." John said. Dave blushed a bit before looking the other way again. John was literally centimeters away from him, causing his heart to beat a bit faster than normal. Dave tried to force himself to calm down and go back to sleep. However, John had moved a bit closer to him, and gosh! No wonder he was shivering! He was freezing! But that didn't stop Dave's face from turning a darker shade of red. "Dave… Thanks again… For saving me back there." John said, closing his eyes. Dave sighed and slowly turned around.
"H-Hey John?"
"Yeah?" John answered.
Dave blinked a few times and took his shades off. "Can I tell you something?"
"Y-Yeah, Dave. You can tell me anything."
Dave began to shake a bit. He was gonna tell him. It was now or never. He opened his mouth, his heart beating quickening. "John… I… I love you." Dave watched as John's eyes widened and a deep blush creeped on his face.
"R-Really?" Was all John asked.
"Yeah… That… That's why I was so determined to save you… And… And protect you…" Dave said, pulling his shirt collar over his face, hiding his fully exposed flushed face and closed his eyes. He felt John's hands pull his shirt collar back down, and felt something soft on his lips. He opened his eyes which quickly widened as he found John's soft lips on his own. He blushed madly, the kiss being just as amazing as he ever imagined. John slowly moved his hand to Dave's cheek, causing him to gasp. Even at John's cool touch, Dave's body warmth spiked to a new height. John then moved his hand to the back of Dave's neck, pulling away for a brief second, looking into Dave's eyes, before kissing him again. Dave wrapped his arms around John, pulling him close, keeping down any moans that could wake up the other demons. John pulled away slowly and looked up at him. "S-So…?"
John chuckled a bit. "I feel the same, Stridork." John said as he caressed Dave's cheek gently. Dave smiled at John. Not a smirk, not a crazy demon grin. He smiled an actual smile. John's eyes widened at the site. "W-Wow…"
Dave noticed and quickly frowned. "U-Um…" This caused John to pout.
"You should smile like that more often!" John said, looking up at him.
"Y-Yeah I guess so…" John smiled at him and snuggled closer to him. Dave held him closer.
"You're warm."
"Get some sleep, Egderp."
And with that, John closed his eyes, feeling warm at last.
