Chapter 24: Confession? Or Confusion?

Another day had passed since the wedding day, almost reaching to a week or so, and both the Pharaohs are not getting anymore better. Isis still refused to get out after the council meeting with Seth and the other High Priests, and now she's making herself suffer by watching both Pharaohs dying slowly... And painfully.

But it was her duty as a medic to stay by their side and do whatever she can to take away those pained expressions poth of them have by creating an antidote for it. Sadly, she can't.

She's afraid to take the risk of creating a random antidote for the poison in fear that she might just trigger the process and make the poison spread faster. She couldn't take it. Isis cursed to herself for not knowing what type of poison it is.

"Isis you should eat." Mahado nudged her with the food tray. She was snapped out of her trance from watching her two deathly pale friends, but it wasn't enough to make her eyes to move. Mahado sigh.

"Isis, you're not going to make it easier for everyone if you don't eat." Mahado spoke again. Isis glared at him, but it didn't quite work well as she was almost half asleep.

"Leave me alone, Mahado. I can manage without it." She said, thought there was a hint of tiredness in her voice. Mahado twitched at that, annoyed by her antics. Clearly she hasn't been eating properly, and she mostly just drink water. There are already dark circles forming under her eyes from the lack of sleep, but Isis is really stubborn for not talking care of herself.

He sigh again, "If you don't take care of yourself, then you yourself will get sick."

"Fine! But I won't sleep."

"No," he said firmly, "You are going to eat, drink, take a nice warm bath and sleep alright?" He pulled her up to stand, forgetting the food tray that's on the nightstand.

"But—"

"No 'buts' High Priestess...The Kingdom also needs you." He said gently as he pushed her towards the door and out of the Royal Chamber. Isis sigh. He was about to close the door when Isis stopped him.

"Just...Just take care of them okay?"

Mahado just smiled at her, saying of course, before closing the door completely.

Isis stared at the door for a while, before going down the hall towards the direction of the kitchen. When she reached the Kitchen, she requested a meal, which a woman gladly served her. She decided to just eat in the kitchen, where she has company. Another woman, who was busy sorting out the fruits had began to murmur to herself.

Isis only heard a few words of 'a lot has requested personally', 'the visitors', and 'Now the...' Before a palace guard came running down the hall. He spotted her almost immediately because of her shiny clothing and he skidded to a halt.

"High Priestess, a visitor is, uh, requesting for your presence to..." He didn't continue as he didn't quite know what to say about the visitor. Isis blinked, before she requested for him to guide her to the said visitor knowing that it might be important. Well, you can't just run like that for fun, after all.

When they came into the scene, Isis didn't expect the visitor to be Tèa. She was sitting on her bed, staring off onto nothingness. Her emotions are covered by the blank façade that was set on her face making it hard for Isis to know if she was up to no good.

After a while of staring at Tèa, Isis finally called her name.

Tèa didn't jump or flinch, she just slowly turned her head slowly towards Isis.

And Isis looked at her in horror.

Tèa looked at her in the eyes, her own lifeless eyes staring back at Isis. She smiled sadly at her, before a stream of tears came falling down her face.
"I'm sorry..." She sobbed.

Isis looked at her with unknown feelings, and went towards Tèa to comfort her. She asked why is she crying and why did she request for her presence, but the girl just shook her hed and went to hug Isis. She kept saying she was sorry, and she was just jealous... So alone in life.

Isis was confused.

What was this girl going on about? Then she gasped, "Is this about the poison?"
Tèa tensed up. Then her body shook harder and she repeated the words 'I'm sorry.' all over again.

Isis' hug on Tèa became tighter as the situation sank in her head. Then she suddenly pushed Tèa away like she was some dirt in act.
Tèa only cried harder and begged to be given a chance to help her find a cure.
Isis contemplated whether or not to believe the young witch because of the grave sin that she had done. But then again, their rulers are painfully close to their funeral, and they do not want that to happen. Ever.

"Can I trust you?"
Tèa nodded and sobbed again, "Tie me up if you want, punish me even! J-just give me a chance to do something good before I can be send to death."
Isis grimaced at the word death, but she knew doing a sin like this can higher Tèa's probability to earn a death penalty.

And it hurts. But she'll be the judge of that.

So Isis agreed, and she helped Tèa up to her feet. Then Isis suddenly gripped Tèa's necklace and pulled her close to her face.
"If I ever catch you doing something else I will personally kill you."

"I understand. Just please...Let me help."

Isis paused. Then she dropped Tèa on her feet. She looked Tèa in the eye before sighing, "Then follow me."

She led Tèa to her medical chamber, holding her hand as they walk through the hallway.

Tèa just smiled.
