Epilogue : Happily Ever After
January 16, 2016
"Naomi, if you don't hurry up, I swear I'm gonna leave you here!"
"Jesus, Emsy…what are you bent up about?" Katie asked as Emily finished shouting up the stairs. "She's finishing up. She'll be down soon."
Cook laughed at the twins, as walked into the lounge and he got himself a drink. "Girls, please?" He rolled his eyes, but only Jamie saw it.
"Emily's been on edge for the last few days." Jamie said, stating the obvious, smiling as a Emily followed Cook into the room.
Emily couldn't deny it, because it was true. Tonight was the launch of their video game and they were all due at the party soon. "I'm sorry, I'm just nervous, ya know?" She told them all.
"Here, have a drink and calm down, Red." Cook passed her a glass and poured another one for himself. "It's alright to be nervous, don't let Katie tell you any different."
"Hey, I'm not telling her she can't be nervous." Katie stated, adopting an indignant tone. "Actually, she should be nervous. If this game bombs, the business will lose money."
It had taken so much longer to finish the video game because Emily had put it on hold for the rest of that first year, so she could help Naomi get better. At least that's what she told people, but the truth was, she just didn't want to be away from Naomi for too long.
"Katie, play nice, yeah?" Alex said as she walked into the room, smiling at Cook.
Emily watched as he wrap the girl in his arms and gave her a kiss. "Hello, my angel." He greeted her and it made Emily smile.
Cook had fallen hard for the paramedic and it had been a beautiful thing to witness, because Alex was as much in love with him as he was with her. He had brought her home one night after they had been seeing each other for a few months and explained everything to her. To Alex's credit, she took the story very well and they became pretty inseparable after that. When it came time to face Mandy in court, Alex was right there, by his side, every step of the way, just like Katie was with Effy and Naomi and Emily had been for each other.
"Hello, my love." Alex said, before turning to Emily. "You'd better drink up, Emsy. Naomi's about come down and you're gonna need that in ya." She said with a wink and laughed as Emily gulped the fiery liquid in one shot.
The past two and a half years had been full of pain and hope. Of tears and laughter. And of love. Emily had made it her mission to let Naomi know every day that she loved her. That's not to say that she and Naomi didn't have their rough moments. There was a time during Naomi's rehab when she had been a downright bitch, so much in fact that Emily would sleep on the couch, instead of in their bed with the blonde. But no matter how much they fought or how many times Naomi would rage against feeling smothered and trapped, Emily knew that that had been Naomi's pride and independent nature talking and not how she really felt. Because after every little fight, whether it was a huge and it felt like their world was going to end, or tiny and childish and Emily had stated on more than one occasion that Naomi acted like a spoilt five year old, Naomi would always apologise and make it up to Emily. After Naomi's rehabilitation, the fights happened less often and they had settled into a state of domesticated bliss.
Once the reality of the curse being broken had set in, everyone realised that they were no longer bound to stay together anymore. Emily had gone back to work at the studio after Naomi had begged her to and Lara would come to the house to work with Naomi, who threw herself into her charity work and running the foundations that she had set up.
Gina and Kieran had decided to go on holiday about a year after Mandy finally snapped, once Gina knew Naomi, Effy and Cook were going to be alright, so they traveled to India and ended up staying to open a small research branch of the Campbell Corporation. It also helped when Naomi explained about seeing Gareth. It seemed to settle Gina's heart and mind at ease knowing that he approved of her moving on. Although, Naomi swears he was all in her head, Gina didn't think that was quite true, not after everything they had lived through the last few years.
Cook had visited his brother in New York, where Paddy was enrolled in a fancy prep school, so Cook took Alex with him and when Paddy was in school, they did the clichéd touristy things. Cook had even visited his mum briefly. He had been tickled pink when Paddy told him that was planning to apply to Uni in London and asked if he could live with him.
He wasn't even ashamed when, on their last night in New York, Alex held him as he cried over missing so much of Paddy's life. But he dried his eyes and vowed to be there for his brother, no matter what.
Effy and Katie had gone to Paris, to visit Effy's brother, as soon as she was healthy enough. It had been surreal to see Tony after all those years. Once they had gotten back to England, they bought a little cottage close to the Campbell house and moved in together. And even though both of them missed the closeness of family, they both enjoyed the time alone where they could make love in every room of their new house.
That left Naomi, Emily and Cook left at the house, but that was fine. That didn't mean that they all didn't see each other almost daily, it just meant that they didn't have to be in each other's back pocket all the time, like before. It was pleasant. Cook and Alex had one part of the house and Naomi and Emily had the other part.
It was a nice arrangement and it suited everyone, including Thelma. She'd had a rough go of it after the ball, when she realised that she had let a monster into their home. She was pretty broken up about it, but Naomi and Gina both sat her down and told her that none of what happened was her fault. It took awhile, but eventually Thelma forgave herself, but she made sure to protect her family even more.
Last year around June, they all had to go to court, when Mandy's trial had finally come around. It had been crazy to think about, Mandy had been out of their sight for a year and a half by then, locked up and under the care of a highly accredited doctor for the treatment of the criminally insane. Mandy was found guilty of three counts of attempted murder and multiple counts of computer fraud. She was also found guilty of planning the assault on Emily the six months prior to the night of the ball. Mandy was going to be sectioned to the hospital for a long, long time, with no chance of parole. Her doctor deemed her unfit to function in society and testified that if released, she would try again to go after Emily.
Emily had been numb throughout the whole trial for the most part. She didn't know that someone could be that sick and twisted, but the evidence had been laid out in front of her, day after day during the whole process. The night after the verdict came through and Mandy's sentencing had been passed down, Emily finally lost it and allowed herself to feel every emotion. Naomi held her and let her cry for hours, until dawn started to make itself know and then she sat up, dried her eyes and took Naomi to bed.
After that night things became normal, which suited everyone just fine. Effy, Cook and Naomi were left in charge of the day to day operation of Campbell Corp., whilst Gina and Kieran ran the research facility in Mumbai and Emily and Katie took over the software company that Naomi had given them, working hard to finish the video game on time.
As a bonus, the twins' new family helped with that. Millie and the rest of them worked closely with Emily and her team on the story and getting things just right with the research. The biggest surprise had been Sophia.
She had worked hard and studied for a year and a day, the length of her punishment, regaining her family's trust and showing that she regretted her youthful actions. Once she was initiated back into the coven and her powers restored, she worked with Emily at the studio when she wasn't working at her store. It had been a learning experience that would help her grow as a witch and as a person, and she treasured every moment of it and she believed Naomi when the blonde gave her the message from Ashley. It was bittersweet to hear, but needed for full closure.
Emily enjoyed the time spent with her new found family as well. She found it wonderful that her mum and Aunt Millie would spend time together, talking about Melvin and Maureen.
Now if only she could get her girlfriend to hurry up, she'd be the happiest girl in England.
Katie had set up the launch party at the same venue where Emily had met Naomi for the first time and had invited reps from software companies all over the world, not to mention people from the biggest gaming entities in the business. This was either going to make or break them and Emily was seriously praying for everything to go their way.
Effy came down the stairs and smiled at Katie, chuckling as she caught sight of Emily, stuck in her head. "So Tony just called. He says the venue is packed and that Jenna and Rob have already arrived with Aunt Millie." She informed the room, as she slipped an arm around Katie's shoulders. "Are you guys ready to go? Because Charley's got the car out front."
Emily was about to respond when Naomi started making her way down the stairs and she immediately lost her train of thought and the words stuck in her throat.
"You alright there, Ems?" Naomi asked as she reached the bottom step and gave Emily a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Um…yeah, um…," Emily shook her head and cleared her throat, anything to get herself out of the daze she was in suddenly, "sorry…it's just…,"
Naomi frowned as she glanced down at her suit. "Is something wrong? Do I look alright?" She asked, the nerves she had felt all day reared up to claw at her confidence. "Don't you like it, Ems?"
Emily kicked herself mentally as she heard Naomi's voice sound so small. "I love it, Naoms…you are so beautiful." She replied.
"So I'll do as your date for tonight?" Naomi asked, a small, shy smile on her face.
"I love you." Emily blurted out, causing everyone else to laugh. "Oh fuck off!" She playfully growled out to everyone else.
Katie stepped forward and addressed them all. "And on that note, let's get the fuck moving before we miss our own party. C'mon!"
Hours later, after the party started to die down, Emily and Naomi sat alone at a table in the corner, watching their families.
"So…how does it feel, Emily?" Naomi asked, taking a sip of the champagne that Emily had swiped off a passing waiter.
"How does what feel?" Emily looked at her in confusion.
"Being a star?"
"Yeah, right." Emily scoffed.
"No, it's true, babes. You're gonna be a big hit in the gaming world. What're you going to do next?" Naomi wanted to know, happy she made the decision to give the company to the twins.
"Well, I'm thinking of hiring Jamie as a concept designer…he's decided to do graphic arts for his A-levels…I'm sure with him on board, we'll come up with another great game, but before that," Emily let go of Naomi's hand to reach into her clutch, "there is something I wanna do."
Naomi cocked her head and watched as Emily nervously fidgeted with something. "What's that, Ems?"
"I wanna go somewhere with you, anywhere really…it's just, since all of this started and the curse was broken, everyone else has gone somewhere, visited family, started a new part of the business…I'd like for us to go somewhere too." Emily stated, feeling her nerves kick in again and holding the real reason why in her hand. She slid out of her chair as Naomi looked on and took a deep breath. "I know I'm supposed to kneel down for this sort of thing, and I would have had I planned better, but trust me when I say this dress won't allow for that, but Naomi Campbell, you are the love of my life. I want to spend that life with you, I want to have kids with you and I want to do all those things that married people do... so would you please marry me?" Emily said her speech, the one she had been rehearsing for a couple months now, as she opened the ring box she had in her hand.
Naomi felt her heart speed up as she heard Emily's words and saw the ring and she knew tears were streaming down her face, but she wiped them aside and smiled up at Emily. "Yes. A thousand times, yes!" She answered, wrapping Emily into a hug and showering her with kisses, both of them unaware that they had had an audience for the whole proposal, until they shouted and whistled and cat called all around them. Emily couldn't help but laugh at her embarrassment, as their families came rushing over to congratulate them and Naomi laughed at the cuteness of it all.
The last two and a half years had been a bumpy road at times, but that was okay. Naomi could live with that, because it was smooth sailing compared to the first four years with the curse. And wasn't it amazing that it had all led up to tonight? That everything she had lived through and done had led her to this very moment? Sometimes Naomi would think she couldn't get any happier or more content, like she didn't deserve to be, but then she'd look at Emily and feel her heart soar.
Naomi looked at the ring that Emily had slipped on her finger and knew that this was her happily ever after, because she was alive and she had Emily by her side and together, they could do anything.
Whoa! I FINALLY did it! it's done...what will I do now? Yes, I know I've got other stories to finish, but this is my epic masterpiece!
