Chapter 15:
Back to Zero
[Still flashback]
"As I've said, you just concentrate on getting better!"
Ty's voice rang through the suite of the hotel the team currently lived in for the shooting, while he looked for something in his suitcase. Adam sat on the couch, looking through the open door of his and Ty's room, where he could watch his best friend, who had accompanied him to the hospital earlier.
"Already am," he replied with a broad grin on his face, nonetheless feeling tired and worn out. All he wanted to do was embrace his Canadian, kiss him senseless and then force either Jerome or Ty to sleep in the other room, so that he could have a rest- and peaceful night's sleep with Mitch in his arms.
"Adam-"
"The doctor's words, not mine!"
For a moment Ty tried to glare at him, but then he couldn't hide his amusement any longer and shook his head, as he excited their room again with some clothes in his hands. "I'm going to the bathroom now, do you need anything else?"
"Nah, I'm fine."
Ty was already on his way to the large room at the back of the suite, as Adam raised his voice again.
"Well, you could bring me my Canadian, please. You promised he would be here any second."
His laugh rang through the suite, as Ty's shirt landed on his head.
"Lovesick fool. Be patient, you are unbearable."
His best friend returned to pick up his shirt again, but before he could leave again, Adam's words stopped him.
"Am I really?"
For a moment both were quiet, then Ty crossed his arms in front of his chest and leaned against the back of the couch Adam was still lying on. "What exactly do you mean?"
The smile had slipped off of the usually confident face, leaving behind a hint of doubt in his big brown eyes. "We haven't talked about this relationship once and I always thought you were okay with it, but after the talk about Seto… I value your opinion, you know that, but I'm not going to choose between the two of you if-"
"That won't be necessary."
Adam stopped talking and glanced up at Ty. Uncrossing his arms he put his clothes aside and went around the couch to sit down as well. "I still don't agree with him about that topic, but I don't hate him Adam. Yes, in my opinion he made a horrible mistake and the outcome couldn't be worse, but he doesn't deserve all the hate he's receiving at the moment."
Adam's eyes darkened at the reminder of the various hate comments his lover received since the fateful video of Seto and his own. "No, he doesn't," he quietly admitted and tensed, before he half-heartedly tried to bring back the original topic.
"So you're okay with… Mitch and I?"
Ty leaned a bit forward and raised an eyebrow, as he answered, "Of course I am. He's good for you, no one can deny that." A thankful smile of Adam, a reassuring clap on his back, then Ty stood up again. "Go and make yourself look pretty for him, they should arrive soon," Ty tried to tease him, but Adam actually stood up and went over to their shared bedroom, shortly before the door to the suite opened with a click.
"…this hotel restaurant has the best stuff, no kidding!"
Jason entered the main room first, followed by the rest of the Team Crafted guys.
"I can't wait for it, sounds awes-"
The sound of his lover's voice brought a bright smile onto his face and quickly Adam grabbed a clean shirt and put it on, before he left his room again just as Ian was saying, "Hey, are you okay?"
With a worried frown on his face Adam stepped into the main room and stopped dead in his tracks as his eyes fell on the appearance of the Canadian he was madly in love with. The last time Adam had seen him was several weeks ago, after their talk about Seto. Due to their various phone calls Adam had known that Mitch was exhausted, hurt and in need of physical comfort, but never had he anticipated… this.
"Mitch?"
His pale face rose abruptly and the dark rings under his eyes were like a punch in the gut. One shaky hand clinched onto Jerome's arm, who stood on his best friend's right side and looked at him with the same worry Adam was consumed by right now. Mitch's eyes were covered by a dull layer and had lost their spark Adam was so fond of. Before he could utter another word, Mitch pulled his lips into a thin smile.
Then he slowly closed his eyes, the tension in his muscles disappeared and he dropped to the ground, before Jerome and Ian had the chance to grab him in time. Immediately chaos erupted.
Without wasting another second, Adam run around the too large couch and fell to his knees at Mitch's side, just as Jerome carefully grabbed his shoulder and turned him around. His hands were visibly shaking and again and again he called for Mitch, who showed no reaction. Something cold and heavy dropped in Adam's stomach and with fearful eyes he grabbed the motionless wrist-
The beating of his pulse was weak but steady and Adam breathed heavily, while Ian joined him on the ground. "No wonder he passed out, I was awaiting that during half of the photo shooting. Let's bring him to the bedroom, I'm sure he'll wake up in a few-"
"No!"
Even though Adam knew that he was just trying to stay calm and comfort his upset friends, Ian had chosen the wrong words at the wrong time. Adam snapped and gave free reign to his worries.
"No, forget it! You are going to get a doctor asap! I'm not gonna listen to you again, saying we're worrying too much! I want a doctor to check him out now, or I'll drive him to the hospital myself!"
"Agreed," Jerome muttered and sat on Mitch's other side without looking up.
Instead of feeling hurt by Adam's words, Ian simply nodded, glanced in Jason's and Ty's direction and then stood up. While he made a beeline for the still open door, he threw over his shoulder, "Nonetheless you better put him into a bed."
Five minutes later the rest of them stood around the bed Mitch was lying in, while Jason told them of the photo shooting and Mitch's behavior with a shaking voice. Adam was sitting on the edge of the bed and watched Mitch's too slim frame in the too large bed, barely following the conversation of the others.
He should have known.
Mitch's personality was usually a carefree and optimistic one and never had Adam seen him sad or depressed. Sure, during their phone calls he had talked about the comments he received and the lack of sleep, but every single time he had simply waved it off while talking about their upcoming reunion.
But the edge in his voice…
Silence-filled seconds…
A sigh, short but with so many emotions…
He should have known.
A groan silenced them all, thoughts and conversations alike, as Mitch screwed up his face, took a deep breath and then wearily opened his eyes. If possible he looked even more tired than before, while he blinked confused at the ceiling. Relief flooded Adam's veins, with a sigh he stretched out his right hand and stroked the pale cheek tenderly.
Immediately Mitch's eyes searched his own and as he finally laid eyes on his boyfriend, a tired but gentle smile spread on his lips.
"Hey."
"Hey," Mitch replied with a hoarse voice and licked his dry lips, as he took another deep breath and unconsciously pressed his cheek into Adam's touch. In the back of his mind he knew that the others had to be watching them still, but he couldn't care less as the affection for Mitch overwhelmed him. Adam leaned forward and smiled as Mitch closed his eyes in joyful anticipation of what to expect.
Mitch's lips were softer than he remembered and with a content sigh the Canadian melted into the slow kiss, while Adam took his time to deepen it, enjoying every second of it due to their long separation. Instead of losing himself in the kiss, he stopped it and pulled away from the red and swollen lips of his still weak boyfriend. It wouldn't help anyone, if Mitch fell unconscious again, because Adam couldn't control himself.
Before Mitch had the chance to complain about the too short kiss, Adam's smile disappeared from his face and he asked with a tense voice,
"Remember what I told you, when you had this horrible coughing fit?"
Mitch's confusion on his face was obvious, as he replied with a question on his own and a voice that sounded too exhausted for Adam's liking.
"…What?"
"Never scare me like that again."
Slowly Mitch frowned, but instead of the comprehension Adam had awaited to show in his eyes, the confusion stayed and only grew. "When you and the guys arrived back in the hotel, you suddenly passed out," Adam reminded him with a quiet voice, because the memory of what had happened not too long ago made his heart painfully skip a beat. Without another word he grabbed the cold hand of the Canadian and caressed his knuckles with his thumb.
In the same moment Mitch's eyes widened as he finally remembered and with a groan he put his free hand over his forehead, while he returned the caressing of his hand. "Of course I did," he mumbled darkly, angry at himself. "Couldn't keep myself together a few minutes longer, no, I just needed to embarrass myself completely in front of everyone."
"Don't-"
Adam tried to interfere, but Mitch kept on talking with a strain in his voice that just couldn't come alone from his anger about passing out.
"Why didn't I pass out at the shooting? Would have been great with the reporter for this article there! Or while taking the stairs, that way I would've broken my neck. The haters would absolutely love those news-"
Adam threw a short look over his shoulder, making sure that the others had left the room, before he leaned forward and silenced Mitch effectively by kissing him. Even though the gleam in his eyes didn't disappear, he finally stayed quiet and waited for Adam to continue.
"That's foolish and you know it. No one will be happy if something happens to you, not in the least. I understand your-"
"Do you really, Adam?"
Mitch's voice was resentful as he tried to sit up, but he was pressed down onto the bed again by Adam's strong grip. The anger was not only audible in the edge of his voice, but also visible in his clenched fists, the tense muscles and his quick breaths.
The latter made the worry in Adam flare up again and instead of continuing the discussion, which was about to turn into an ugly argument, he tried to calm the Canadian down again. Adam still didn't know what exactly was wrong with him, but he figured that upsetting him was the least Mitch needed at the moment, even though Adam was usually the first to jump into an argument because of his rather… emotional reactions.
"Let's talk about that later, alright? I'm just glad you're awake again."
Mitch's look was telling Adam enough for him to know, that his Canadian wasn't going to back down, but thankfully someone else stepped into the room, before either one of them had the chance to say anything else.
"The doctor is here."
Please be so kind a let me know what you think about the chapter. =)
