"Leaving?" Kyra asked. "What do you mean we're leaving?"
Boromir continued having nightmares in the days since Vanim's birth. He couldn't stand it any longer. He and Kyra had to return to Minas Tirith before Denethor beat Faramir to death.
"I meant what I said", Boromir answered. "You and I are leaving and going back to Minas Tirith."
"But your father", Kyra said. "What will he do when you tell him of me and Vanim?"
"He will have to accept you. You are my wife and Vanim is my daughter. Nothing he can do will ever change that. If he doesn't accept you or tries to banish you, I will go with you."
"And what if he sentences me to death?" she asked.
"Then I will join you in death", Boromir said.
"Do not say that!" Kyra said pulling away from him. "Please do not say that."
He watched as she walked to the opening of the cave standing by the waterfall. She wrapped her arms around her as she felt the moisture of the falling water droplets being blown in by the breeze. Boromir sighed as he walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her.
"Kyra…"
"I do not ever want to hear you say you will join me in death if that is my punishment", Kyra said.
"Why not?" Boromir asked.
"You need to take care of Vanim", she answered.
They turned to see their week-old daughter asleep in a basket by their bed.
"I want you to live for her", Kyra said. "I do not want you to join me in death, leaving her at the hands of your father. If those nightmares you have are real, then you know Vanim won't survive long without you to protect her. She needs her father."
"She needs her mother, too", Boromir said.
He held her in his arms as she sighed. What she said was true. Vanim would not live long with Denethor. She needed her parents for protection.
"We still need to go back", Boromir said. "I'm sure your mother would like to see her daughter is alive, as well as meet her granddaughter."
"I suppose", Kyra said. "But do you think it is safe to travel with a newborn?"
"No, but I will be there to protect her the entire way."
"I don't know. There was talk in Gondor about creatures called Orcs swarming the wild before we left. What if we run into those?"
"I will not let any harm come to you or Vanim. I promise. And I promise I will not let her grandfather lay a hand on you or her."
He pecked Kyra's lips before bringing her to bed.
"We will leave as soon as possible", he said.
