After years of boring twists, the Capitol has had enough of the Gamemakers' attempts to entertain them. They want blood, and that's what they get when the newest twist is announced: for the 117th Games, tributes will be Reaped as pairs of siblings. Luna Brimstone hasn't spoken to her brother in two years, and she longs to see him; at last, it seems her wish could finally come true.

Direct Variation: a mathematical term for the equation y equals kx, in which "k" is a constant, 23 in our case, and "x" is a variable, standing for the number of Games, of course. It's a perfect equation, but unexplainably, there are inconsistencies. And if they have their way, there will be more. Rewritten into the third person.

Lucent Saccharyn has a lot going for her. She's ambitious, persistent, and passionate about her work. However, she's just been promoted, and her first year as Head Gamemaker will be a Quarter Quell following the best and then the worst Games in history. Whatever will she decide to do?
