Chapter Twenty Nine: I'll Be There

Chapter 29! Yay! My TV isn't working. I was at JCPenney today and had absolutely NOTHING to do there, so I started writing this in my notepad on my tracfone. Yeah, after being woken up at six am for a Pokemon battle, I have to say this day is pretty interesting.

Angel slowed down when she reached the camp, careful not to wake anyone up. She stopped at Tails' tent, silently going in and sitting on the ground. Ninetales saw her come in and acknowledged her by laying down next to her. Angel smiled, then turned to the fox that she had actually gone there for.

Tails was still sleeping, but it was anything but soundly. He was constantly tossing and turning, only staying still for a few seconds at a time. Angel felt his hand, which was unusually cold. She moved her hand up to his forehead, which was burning hot. He shivered at her cold touch, then relaxed a little. The cold seemed to help calm him down.

Angel scooted over to the medicine pile, taking out an ice pack. Using her powers she froze it pu and placed it on Tails' head. He shivered again, then stopped. Angel smiled, placing her hand on his arm. He seemed so innocent, too young to have to go through this. She sighed. It's wasn't all Ash's fault. She should've done a better job protecting Tails, keeping him away from the fight. She looked down at Ninetales, who seemed to be reading her thoughts. "What?" she said to the Pokemon. It made a small whimpering sound as it nudged her arm. She sighed again. "It's not like I can change what happened. What's done is done."

Tails let out a small groan, then slowly opened his eyes. "Angel?" he asked weakly.

Angel gasped when she heard his voice. "I'm right here," she said quietly. She was careful to hide her eyepatch behind her bangs. She didn't want to worry him about it.

Tails made an attempt to sit up, but barely had the energy to keep his eyes open. There was something he wanted to tell Angel, something he had been thinking about subconsciously. He was about to fall back down, but Angel caught him at the last second. "You should rest," Angel said.

Tails shook his head. He was determined to say what was on his mind. "I want to tell you something," he said, taking her hand in his.

"What is it?" Angel asked, staring in to his deep blue yet tired eyes.

"I've been thinking about us," he said slowly. "I just want to tell you…when I look at you…I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. When I talk to you…I get nervous and dizzy, and I can't think straight. And when I kiss you…" he paused, unable to put his feelings into words. Then it all came out. "When I kiss you, its like time freezes, and we're the only two in the world. It's like all of the problems in the world have disappeared, and all the hate is gone. When I'm with you I can't help feel like…we're meant to be." He looked at Angel's hand, then back up at her, waiting for a response.

Angel stared at him for a moment, unsure of what to say. After a few seconds she found her voice again. "That's the most beautiful thing anyone has ever said to me," she whispered. The two of them stared at each other for a moment, then kissed. Tails felt a rush of cold go through his body, clearing his thoughts of anything bad. He felt the familiar tase of mint, intensifying and becoming more vibrant by the second. He closed his eyes, allowing his mind to go blank.

Angel felt the opposite elements as she kissed him. The temperature of the are felt like it was getting higher and higher by the second, but she didn't care. They could have been in the blazing inferno of hell and it wouldn't have mattered; as long as she was with him. Her heart was beating faster than ever, she could feel the blood rushing to her face, her cheeks getting rosy. After a few seconds the two let go, still hand in hand. Angel was the first to speak. "I'm really glad I ran into you that day in the woods, Tails," she said with a smile.

"Me too," Tails replied. He layed back down on the sleeping bag as he let out a sigh of content, relief, and exhaustion. Angel placed her head on his chest, allowing the soft and steady beat of his heart lull her to sleep.

A few hours later, Angel was woken up when she felt the wet nose of a Pokemon nudge her. She groaned when she opened her eyes to see Ninetales staring at her. She looked up at Tails, who was still fast asleep. She stood up slowly, careful not to wake him. She looked back at Ninetales. "Can I help you?" she asked, slightly annoyed. The Pokemon pulled back the flap of the tent. Angel peered outside. The sun was high in the sky, indicating that it was almost noontime. "Sorry buddy," Angel said, ruffling the tuft of fur on the Pokemon's head. "So what's for breakfast or lunch or whatever it's called?" Ninetales took off in to the direction of the other rebels. A few minutes later it came back with a bowl of chocolate ice cream and a spoon in its mouth. Angel took the bowl and spoon in her hand. She was about to take a bite when she heard a voice in the distance coming toward them. "Hey!" Melaney yelled. "That's mine you sneaky little pest of a Pokemon!" she stopped when she finally reached them, gasping for breath.

"Melaney?" Angel said in surprise. She handed the bowl to the Yoshi, who lightly hit the Ninetales with the spoon. "Now that I have my ice cream back," she said as she glared at the fire fox. She looked back at Angel. "A little birdie told me that you kissed Tails last night," she said teasingly. "How'd you wake him up?" she questioned.

"He woke up when I was in there," Angel replied, then did a double take. "Wait a minute. Who was the little 'birdie'?" she looked down at the Ninetales, who was slowly trying to sneak away. "Is that why you brought me the ice cream? You little foxes are always too smart for your own good." The Ninetales saw that it was in no real trouble, then took the opportunity to run away. She looked back at Melaney. "How did you even understand what it was saying, anyway?"

"Yeah…" Melaney said. "It turns out the emerald tracker has this translator thingy on it. Sonic told me that they used it when they were trying to save the wisps or whatever, and then I tried to use it on Ninetales and it worked!"

"But how?" Angel questioned. "It's written in binary so only Tails can read it!"

"Oh please," Melaney said. "The thing looks exactly like Windows XP. You go under Options and click-"

"Yeah, yeah, I get it," Angel said, not wanting to hear the whole process.

"How did it even happen?!" Melaney asked.

"Hey, I don't have to tell you," Angel said with a smirk.

"Please?" Melaney begged. "I want to know everything!"

Angel sighed. "Fine. I was in there with him and Ninetales, and then he said some stuff, we kissed, and he went back to sleep. Plain and simple. And you better not being telling anybody."

"I won't," she promised. But at four in the morning?" That seems awfully suspicious."

"I just got back from telling Sonic that I was part of Team Plasma-"

"You told him you were part of Team Plasma?!" Melaney exclaimed in surprise.

"Could you say it any louder? I don't think they heard you in Australia!" Angel shouted back. At this point Sonic and Brock had arrived, curious about the commotion.

"What are the two of you yelling about?" Sonic asked.

"Angel kissed Tails last night," Melaney blurted. Angel hit her on the side of the head with her spear.

"You realize that by doing that you put both yourself and Tails in danger, right?" Brock said.

"What do you mean?" Angel inquired.

"While you were talking to Sonic about Arceus knows what last night," the other three exchanged uneasy glances as Brock continued, "I found that Tails has a fever that could be contagious. Not only that, but the cold aura that an Ice-type such as yourself gives off is dangerous to the average being."

"Is there a point to this?" Sonic asked.

"Yes," Brock said. "I'm saying that she should stay away from Tails until he has fully recovered, regardless of the circumstances."

"Says who?" Angel challenged.

"Says the DOCTOR," Brock fired back. "And if you care for your own health and whether or not Tails makes it through this, I suggest you listen."

Angel growled and rolled her eyes, but said nothing. Brock walked away from the three of them, feeling that he head made his warning clear.

Angel kicked a tree nearby, letting out a few curse words. She turned to Melaney. "Did Ninetales tell you what I thought about Ash last night?" The Yoshi nodded. "Be sure to tell it that I take it all back." She sighed as she hit the tree with her fist.

"Man, that sucks," Sonic said sympathetically.

"'Suck' doesn't even begin to describe it," Angel said in quiet rage. She looked up in to the sky, then took off without saying anything, leaving Sonic and Melaney behind.

Icirrus City, Lake

Angel was flying high above the lake, forming her spear in to multiple throwing knives. She chucked a few at the trees around the lake, beginning to calm down.

"Hey," a voice said from the ground. Angel spun around at high speeds, chucking a knife at the voice, who moved out of the way just in time. It was Ash.

Angel stared at him, pissed. She hadn't talked to him since the two of them fought. She saw that his eye was covered in bandages too, and in much worse condition than she was. Nevertheless, she was still angry. "What do you want?" she growled.

Ash paused for a second, unsure what to say. "…Melaney told me about you and Tails."

"Dammit!" Angel groaned. She squeezed one of the throwing knives, causing her hand to bleed. She cringed as she realized what she had done.

"Is your hand gonna be okay?" Ash asked.

"Oh, as long as I can still strangle a Yoshi, my hands are fine," she said. "What's it to you?"

"I just want to say…I'm sorry," he looked down at his shoes as Angel stared at him in surprise. "You're right. I shouldn't have gone with you guys. My curiousity killed the cat…or in this case…it almost…uh…never mind." He looked back up at Angel, who was still staring at him.

Angel landed back on the icy water, a frosty platform forming under her feet. She looked at Ash. Her voice was quiet. "Even if you do apologize, I can't accept it. You almost got us all killed."

Ash nodded. "I get why you would be angry," he said.

"I highly doubt it," Angel said. The two stood there for a moment, then Ash walked back to the camp in silence, leaving Angel behind.

Icirrus City, Rebel Base

A few minutes later, Angel had decided to head back to the camp. At the moment she was in a large white tent where Doofensmirtz kept his "incredible inventions". She sat on one of the boxes, unsure what to do next. Then she noticed a small box covered in a white towel. Curious, she walked over and removed the towel, revealing a small Casio keyboard. She stared at it for a moment as she wondered what it was there for. She placed her fingers on the keys and automatically began to play. "You and I must make a pact," she began to sing. Her voice was flowing and melodious, like honey being poured. "I'll be there to protect you…" she stopped, then sighed. "Irony," she mumbled.

"Wow," a voice said from behind her. Angel whipped around in surprise. It was Tails, shivering at the door of the tent. He sat on the box next to her. "You're really good," he said quietly. "Why'd you stop?"

Angel sighed. "I was just thinking about something," she said, looking down at the ground. She gave him a small smile. "It's nothing you have to concern yourself with though." She leaned over and kissed him, making his tails spin involuntarily. Soon he had lifted them both off the ground and in to the air. The two didn't notice until they stopped, then fell to the ground below, Tails on top of her.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

Angel was laughing, unhurt by the fall. Her hat had been turned backwards and her eyes were sparkling with delight. Tails smiled in relief. After a few seconds, her laughter died down, and her expression became disappointed. "We should stop…" she said sadly. The two of them stood back up.

"What's wrong?" Tails asked.

"I'm not really one to listen to what other people tell me," Angel said. "But when Brock said that we shouldn't be hanging around each other until you get better, I think he was right."

"But-" Tails began to say. He sneezed, proving Angel's point.

"I just don't want to see you getting hurt any further," she continued.

Tails shook his head. "I don't care what Brock says. I almost lost you before, and I don't want it to happen again. Just stay here a little bit longer, please?" he looked at her pleadingly.

Angel sighed, then smiled. "Fine," she said, giving in. "But we don't tell anyone, understand?"

"Got it," Tails said with a smile. He playfully tackled her to the ground, but she saw it coming and pinned him down, a grin on her face.

"You have to wake up pretty early in the morning to beat me," she said with a laugh. The two of them stared at each other for a minute, happy in each others' prescense, unaware that they were being watched.

"They seem pretty happy," Ash said to Misty from outside the tent. "She turned her hat backwards…things must be getting serious."

Misty nodded. "The two of us could be like that someday," she said.

Ash nodded back, then did a double take. "What?!"

"Nothing," Misty said quickly. She turned to walk away, her face turning red with embarrassment. Ash followed her after a few seconds.

Angel and Tails continued to stay there until the others began calling for them.

"Tails!" Sonic called from outside. Angel kissed Tails' nose, then stood up.

"I should get going," she said. She ran out of the tent, almost running in to Sonic. She ran around him without saying anything.

"You okay, buddy?" Sonic asked, helping Tails up. "She's acting funny," he said, looking back at the door. "What's up with her hat?"

Tails smiled. "She's finally come around."

Chapter 29's done! Yay! And yes, this was my not so amazing attempt at romance. Meh. Everyone's got their strengths and weaknesses. Interesting fact: I sprained my right ring finger, and it hurts when I type the letter o. Ow. I was in gym, and I can't catch and basketball, and…yeah. It was all swollen and…just weird. It's in a splint now, and it's hard to type- my WMP has fallen from 62 to 43, which sucks, but it's okay! 'Cause I got this done! Speaking of broken hands…did you see the Sonic Lost World reference I put in there? The 'As long as I can still strangle…" line is one of my favorite Eggman lines, tops. I don't know. Eggman's grown on me the past couple games. Anyway, I really need your opinion on this romantic shiz. I'm no shipper by any means, so I wasn't really sure what I was doing here. Please leave a review! Thanks! Oh, PS, we finally reached 50,000 words! Yes!
