Chapter 18: Finding the Passage

Over a month had passed since Kina had departed from my family. I had finished all of my court visits to get her signed back over to Ayame. Souta and I were handling it fairly well, which I was thankful for. We didn't need anymore sorrow. It was December 1st, 2013 and the holidays were coming up fast, which meant winter break would be here soon! Souta and I picked a nice tree and some nice decorations. Our home actually held spirit. That's a first for us.

"Sis, let's go!" Souta shouted from the living room.

"Coming!" It was time for school and we were running late.

I bolted down the stairs and out of the apartment. Souta and I ran the distance from our apartment to the school. Once we finally reached our destination we were both panting. Our breaths came out in white puffs due to the cold. I was glad I wore my nude leggings and brown scarf because it was freeing out.

"We're over five minutes early! We're getting faster, Kags!" Souta exclaimed as he checked his phone.

Souta and I made our way into the school and basked in the heat that came from within.

"Man!" Souta stretched out his arms once we were inside, "It's a furnace in here!"

I rolled my eyes and went to our first hour. I walked alone. Souta wasn't beside me.

"Souta?" I called out.

I spotted him with Kaede Mishi (She's young in this), Kikyo's younger sister. I decided to leave him alone and I continued on my way to class. Inuyasha met me at the door to our Art class.

"Hey." He said as he walked me into class.

"Hey, Yash." We sat down in our desks and conversed until the bell rang.

"How's mommy and daddy in the jewel?"

"Mother is on my ass about training. I know I have to figure out how to get this damn jewel out of my body first. "

"Are there any books or sites that you've checked? You could find some answers."

"Yeah rig-"

'He is correct Kagome, I learned how to place the jewel inside of you from a scroll. You could find that scroll or something else that would tell you how to remove it.'

'Where the hell am I supposed to find that?!'

'In the school! The school is over my carcass and I know for a fact that there is a way to get down there. Find it and you'll find the scroll. This city was built over our feudal home, Kagome.'

"Kagome?" Inuyasha was waving his hand in front of my face.

"Huh? Sorry! I was talking with mother." I shook my head softly to gather my thoughts.

"Man, your eyes rolled back and everything, Kags!"

I quickly told Inuyasha about what my mother had told me. Once class started we told Souta and Sango as well. It was decided that we would meet up at night and search for the passage to the feudal city.

"How are we gonna get into the school, though?" Inuyasha asked as the four of us walked to lunch.

We all pondered over the question until we heard Sango gasp.

"MIROKU!" We all looked at her with confusion, "Miroku just got a job here as the janitor! He got in some trouble and they're making him do it for community service! He could let us in!" Sango told us.

"Wow, finally that dumbass has contributed to this group.." Inuyasha laughed.

Night time had reared it's head toward us. It was time to bust into the feudal city beneath us.

'WAIT!' I could hear my mother cry out in my mind.

Souta must have heard her too because he looked at me with a puzzled expression.

'What?'

'You must be aware, there are still living demons lurking down below! They know you possess the jewel and they will go to great lengths to steal it from you! Be cautious my children!'

Her warning stung my heart. I would be putting all of my friends in danger if Souta and I took them. Souta and I shared the same look.

"Our mother says that only Kagome and I can pass through the portal to the feudal city." Souta told our friends

"What?1 We can't jus-" I cut Sango off.

"No.. uh he's right. Mother says only the two of us can pass through."

"We're not letting you go alone!" Inuyasha started.

"Inuyasha, I have to. We have to." Souta and I made our way inside the school and Miroku ushered us toward the courtyard.

Our courtyard was littered with wells. One of those wells was the passage to the underlying world of feudal Japan.

"Are you sure it's one of these wells?" Miroku questioned us.

Souta ponted to the oldest looking well.

"That one."

I could feel it also. The aura that emitted from the well was exasperating.

"Let's go.." We sat on the lip of the well.

"Be careful.." Miroku whispered and then we leapt into the well.
