It was early the following morning that the Greencloak archers pledged their fealty to Joffrey. Taking place in the main Courtyard of the Castle, surrounded by members of court and the Tyrell's and Hightower family members who were there.
Kess was watching intently as the Archers knelt and muttered the oath to Joffrey, who was completely unaware that they were using a different set of words to the ones that the Oldtown men usually used. Of course, they had already sworn their fealty to Kess, who was standing near Joffrey on the raised platform.
Olenna Tyrell leant over slightly to mutter quietly to Kess in her ear so that no one else could hear them 'I have been to the fealty dedication of Greencloak's before. This isn't the same wording I remember'
Kess glanced around at the elder woman, her jaw clenched and she looked unsure of what to say. Olenna knew that this was a lie and she was lost for words until Olenna shook her head a little, a small smile on her lips 'I won't tell if you don't'
Kess nodded slowly, an unspoken conversation passing between the two of them until Olenna smiled again 'You play the game very well my dear'
She had no idea what that meant, but knew that Olenna knew exactly what was going on, and knew that she wasn't going to say anything.
Sansa was walking along the river when Kess found her and they walked along until no one could hear them 'well, you'll be glad to know that I am not pregnant'
The redhead nodded, looking relieved 'what would you have done?'
Kess shrugged 'I do not know. I assume this wedding will be happening soon, whilst my parents are here. Not that I have a choice in this matter'
'Do you still want to marry him?'
'Yes, but even if I didn't then I wouldn't have much choice would I. Cersei has made that fairly clear. Whether it's Balon Swann or Sandor she doesn't care, as long as it's someone in Kings Landing. As long as I do this, it distracts the stupid woman from trying to marry you off doesn't it'
Sasna nodded, looking out of the window 'what is going to happen Kess? What happens when they realize who you are? What are we going to do?'
'We'll destroy them'
Sansa blinked but said nothing, deep in thought.
Gregor Clegane was jealous. He was the elder brother. He was the bigger brother. In his eyes, he was also the better brother, in every possible way.
And now here his younger brother was, marrying the most beautiful woman in the Seven Kingdoms. Gregor couldn't even pretend not to be jealous, and it was infuriating him more and more every time that he saw the brunette, as It became more and more clear exactly what his brother had. What his brother had that he didn't.
Every time Gregor saw Kess it made him feel sick, especially when he passed her early in the morning a few days after the Greencloaks had arrived. The sun was barely starting to rise and there was no one around save for a few servants and Gregor was surprised to see anyone, let alone Kess.
She was dressed in black riding trousers and a long tunic style top with her hair in a side plait, typical of female hunters.
There was a bow in her hand and a quiver of arrows on her back, and Gregor stopped short in surprise 'Lady Hightower, what are you doing in the corridors at this time?'
Kess tried to keep her feelings of rage and hate towards the man in front of her –the man who had killed her half sister and thought he had killed her half brother as well, by slamming the child's head against a wall- and managed a small smile.
'I was hunting in the Eastern Woods with the Greencloaks'
'A Lady like yourself shouldn't be out hunting'
'Should I be sitting and embroidering a wedding gown?'. She sounded sour and turned on her heel and stalked off down the corridor. Looking pissed off.
It was later the same day that Rhonda Hightower came into Kess's rooms, looking distracted as she closed the door
'Kess, dear, are you alone?'
She nodded and motioned to Sansa who was reading on the bed a few feet away 'Well, Sansa is here'
'Of course she's fine dear. Have you spoken to your father today?'
'No… Why?'
'You and Sandor are getting married'
Kess blinked 'Yes… I know that mother'
'No, I mean today- now'
There was a long pause that was broken by Sansa 'Sorry….can someone tell me what is going on?'
An hour before sunset fifteen Greencloaks, Rhonda and Balon Hightower, Sansa, Tellen and his father were sitting in a small room in Kings Landing, watching as Balon stood at the front of the room beside Sandor, who was looking a little lost.
After a few seconds the door opened and everyone turned to look at Kess
She was wearing an intricate fine lace golden dress with short sleeves and a tight bodice that pooled out after her waist into a small train behind her. She looked beautiful, and Sandor didn't know where to look until their eyes met as she walked up towards him.
