Chapter 9: Seeing
Atem's POV
Atem stared in amazement at the room he was in. It looked like an ordinary room, except for the Egyptian architecture and hieroglyphs that were everywhere.
"Go away!" Atem spun around to see Yugi curled around his knees, facing a black wall without hieroglyphs, and his back to Atem. The black was spreading throughout the entire room like it had been doing to Yugi's door when they first entered into Yugi's mind. "I don't want you here!"
"Yugi-"
"NO!" Yugi screamed and covered his ears. "You're not real, your just another one of his illusions trying to break me, but I'm already broken so go away!"
"No Yugi," Atem said walking up to Yugi, "I'm really here and I'm not going to hurt you in any way."
"Don't." Yugi sobbed. "No don't tell her that, it's breaking me. Can't you see that I love you?"
"Yugi?" Atem asked, placing his hand on Yugi's shoulder. "What are you talking about? What are you seeing?" Suddenly there was a pulse of dark energy and Atem was standing in the school hallway, staring at an image of himself locked in a heated embrace with Tea.
"I love you." The fake Atem said to Tea when they pulled apart for air.
"Do you?" Atem spun around to see Yugi staring at the copycat. "Do you truly love her?"
"Yes Yugi," Atem watched in horror as the image told Yugi lies, "I truly do. Why, did you have something to tell me?"
"No." Yugi said softly, backing away. Pain was pouring off Yugi in waves, but he didn't want to do or say anything that would make the one he loved unhappy. "I just hope that she will make you happy."
"No Yugi!" Atem was again staring at the Yugi curled around his knees, covering his ears. Atem walked around until he was staring directly at Yugi, who had his eyes closed, and placed his hand on Yugi's cheeks, framing his face with his hands. "You would make me happy, not Tea, you. What you've seen isn't real, because I do not love her, I love you my Hikari"
"Lies!" Yugi screamed, snapping his eyes open and glaring at Atem. "You never would have left if you loved me and you never would have said all those hurtful things when you got back!"
"Those are the lies Yugi." Atem said, while lowering his hands to Yugi's shoulders and softly shaking him. "You have my gift of Sight. Not only can you see spirits, but you can see the truth behind deceptions as well."
"It doesn't matter, because you still left me when you could have stayed!" Yugi shouted and slapped Atem's hands away. "Shadow told me that you could have chosen to stay here with me, but you didn't, instead you turned around and walked away."
Yugi was crying by this point and Atem looked at him sadly. "Oh my Hikari, I never wanted to leave and I wouldn't have if you had told me how you felt from the beginning."
"I didn't want you to be disgusted with me," Yugi sobbed and looked away, "and I thought that you would be horrified if you knew that someone as pitiful as me was in love with you." Atem's heart stopped in absolute joy at those words, but Yugi didn't noticed and just kept talking. "I mean, how could someone like you love someone like me? So I decided it was ok if you never loved me and I kept those thoughts locked up so you would never find out. I was fine with it as long as you were still by my side even if you didn't feel the same, but then you left anyway and-"
Atem cut him off by grabbing his face in both his hands and pulling him up to meet Atem's lips. Yugi froze in shock before he closed his eyes and melted into the kiss. Atem parted his lips slightly and ran his tongue along Yugi's bottom lip trying to get a response and Yugi happily allowed Atem's tongue to slip into his mouth without a fight. Teeth clashed and bit as tongues fought for dominance, which Atem quickly won.
Atem reluctantly pulled away and stared into Yugi's bright violet eyes and smiled as Yugi tried to catch his breath, his cheeks painted a lovely red.
"Are you ready to end this?" Atem asked and pulled Yugi to his chest.
Yugi clung tightly to Atem and took a couple deep breathes to calm himself, then pulled away and replied with determination, "Yes."
A gold light flashed and suddenly Atem was opening his eyes to find himself lying on the ground. Atem looked next to him to see Yugi waking up as well.
"Yami!" Yugi shouted when he saw Atem and threw himself at Atem.
"Well if it isn't the two lovebirds." A malicious voice said from behind them. Atem and Yugi turned around to see their friends unconscious and chained to the wall. "The fun is just beginning!" Shadow yelled, throwing his hand up in the air. "So why don't you come join in with your friends."
Yugi cried out when Atem pulled him close and a hoard of darkness rushed right to them.
