After her third class, Rosie was seriously considering not going to lunch. She didn't understand a bunch of things Professor Dawkins had said, some which included the theory of evolution of Darwin, she kept forgetting that the creatures evolved for the sole and only purpose to pass on their genes.

It had nothing to do with the fact that Lysander was going to be there by the fountain at lunch time. No, it had nothing to do with that. Nothing at all.

It didn't have to do with the fact either, that she had snapped at Leo. Or the fact that Leo and Alexy were fighting over something and she wanted to smack their heads together and make them kiss so that it was over and she could live her life.

Nope, nothing wrong. Just a bunch of stuff she couldn't understand.

Rosaline sighed whilst picking up her things and walked down the hall. They were crowded and she had to dodge many times to avoid getting run over. Was she used to crowds? Of course she was! She had lived in a place where 7 people rode the same motorbike, where people swarmed everywhere but back then she rarely went out even when there were no big crowds.

Add to that the fact that was working for the first time in her life. Things weren't easy but then again an easy path wasn't something she didn't have. In Rosie's mind easy things came with a terrible price, like power.

Or love.

She dodged a guy with a huge poster just like several other people and bumped into someone.

"Watch were you're going!" Rosaline stepped back and apologized.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going."

"I wasn't looking where I was going." Mimicked the girl in a high pitched voice that made Rosie want to smack her. She looked at the blond girl whose hair was arranged into elaborate ringlets. She had a pair girls flanking either side of her. One was with an Asian with fake eyelashes and a brunette with a pierced eyebrow. The blond girl looked familiar for some reason. The shape of her eyes, the thin lips…

"She already apologized." Said a soft voice behind her.

A voice she recognized unfortunately. She tried to ignore the open mouths of the sidekicks of the blond girl. She turned half of her body towards the source of the voice. Trench coat with sleeves reaching the elbows, a white shirt's arms peeking out from underneath. Black fitted pants, sea green ruffle at the collar of the shirt. Silver hair and heterochromatic eyes.

Nooo, rosie didn't know this guy at all.

Apparently, the blond girl did because she pushed Rosie out of the way and leaned very close.

"Hi Lysander." She said in what she probably thought was a sexy voice. Lysander didn't recoil or swat her away but he didn't look particularly pleased to see her which made Rosie happy. She pushed down the feeling savagely down her throat.

"Hello Amber." He said politely sweeping his gaze to Rosaline. "Hello again." He said with a warm smile. She was about to say something nasty when Amber beat her to it.

"You know this one?" she said this one with a lot of venom.

"That hardly seems your business miss." said Rose. The blond looked at her with distaste.

"So says the girl that dresses like a bum." Rosie raised an eyebrow at her. This girl was asking her for a fight and she damn well wanted to have one but she had to control herself. She had to control herself. She had to control herself. She had to control herself.

"And Miss? Please, what era do you come from?" that made Rosie snap. She was about to lift her hands and crack her knuckles to start a fist fight but a voice stopped before she could do so.

"Do look at your own clothes, looks like you've been shopping on Wal-mart again Amber!" said a loud voice. Rosie turned around to look at Rosalya who was walking with Melody. Both of them looking very beautiful. Amber huffed and peeked at Lysander who was surprisingly with his jaw set, his mismatched eyes blazing.

"I don't understand why you three are going to hang out with this loser." She pointed at Rosaline who was already in the process of lifting her hands to punch the blonde's face but alas it was not to be because a hand squeezed her shoulder, hard.

"And I don't understand why you're being such a whore about it Amber darling." said another voice that Rosaline Recognized as Leo's. She set her jaw and tried to lower her hands but she couldn't, she really wanted to break the girl's jaw or give her a black eye.

Black eyes were Rosaline's specialty. Amber huffed and walked away followed by her sidekicks. Leo pulled away his hand. Rosie was glaring at the retreating figures of the three girls. Perhaps she could…

"Are you okay?" asked Rosalya putting her hand on her shoulder, Rosaline flinched coming out of her train of thought. She turned quickly, Rosalya withdrew her hands confused.

"I'm sorry."

"You surprised me, that's all." Said the dark haired girl, she smiled a little. "guess my anger makes me forget things." Rosalya felt slightly offended at that. "thank you for standing for me. You didn't have to, if she was your friend and I…" Rosalya and Leo snorted.

"Amber? Friend?" asked Leo.

"In the same sentence?" said Melody surprisingly. "can you believe that?"

"I just thought that she was your friend and maybe you fought with her or something." Rosie said gesturing with her hand vaguely. The bell rang and Rosalya groaned.

"I have class with the witch." She grumbled.

"At least, you don't have class with a professor that makes you fall asleep." said Melody. Rosalya rolled her eyes and looked at Rosaline.

"Have lunch with us?" she said politely and Rosaline after a moment of hesitation nodded.

"Where?"

"By the fountain." Said rosalya her eyes glittering like a topaz.

"I'll be there."

"And you're not including me?" leo scoffed he looked offended. Rosalya rolled her eyes.

"You don't need to ask." She looked at rosaline and smiled a gentle smile but there was a maniac glint behind those eyes, just like a madman about to discover the correct chemical to make things go boom! "see ya." She said winking to Rosaline.

"bye." said Melody waving her hand and both girls walked down the hall with Leo.

"Amber isn't friends with anyone besides Li and Charlotte." said a voice behind her and Rosaline was surprised but didn't jump because she recognized the voice. She turned fully to see Lysander still standing there a hand under his chin, while his other hand supported his elbow. He looked quite adorable.

"Why?" she blurted out and he raised an eyebrow at her. Rosie immediately looked away, it was rude to ask for truths when she never said the truth herself. She was surprised when a hand brushed away hair tucked a lock of hair behind her left ear. Her eyes found a pair of mismatched ones looking at her with unreadable look etched upon them.

"I don't know myself, nor do I care really."

"I'm sorry…"

"you have nothing to be sorry for." He replied stroking her cheek almost absentmindedly.

"but I was just rude and…"

"Curiosity isn't a sin." He withdrew his hand back to his side. Rosaline's heart was beating hard, blood was pounding in her ears. "but one should always be careful…"

"for there are things you might not like to know." Said Rosaline, Lysander did something that always took her by surprise, he smiled.

"I was going to say that curiosity has consequences." She couldn't think anything good to say so she swallowed a little.

"The bell rang and I…um, have classes." She said lamely. Lysander nodded he looked as if he wanted to say something to her but didn't instead he nodded at her turned on his heel walking away first. Rosaline stared at him for a few seconds before mentally slapping herself. She couldn't be seen by others gaping at Lysander when she didn't even like him.

Okay, so that was a lie, she did think he was hot but that was it. She didn't like him.

She didn't like him.

She shook her head a little turned away and walked on the opposite side to her anatomy class. She wasn't aware that Lysander had paused and was looking over his shoulder at her, watching her hair fly slightly as the wind blew from the open door of the corridor.

When Rosie came out of class she wasn't surprised that she ran into someone yet again. Leo. Her head felt as if it had been tossed into the microwave and left for too long there. She had had the first class with Mr. Johansson which had been easy enough (he didn't seem surprised when Leo made a show of helping her into class), then she had class with Mr. Dawkins and she was fine until Mrs. Cecily's class.

Rosie's head felt like a cauldron full of burnt syrup after the first 15 minutes. It was interesting obviously, in fact, Mrs. Cecily's class was so interesting that Rosaline forgot to write down the first 15 minutes of her speech.

Luckily for her it was just an introduction to her class which wasn't important according to her. But god, damn it! Rosie missed some parts and now she would need to go to the library to have some quiet and peace to remember what she said.

The unfortunate thing was that she didn't remember where the library was. She cursed in her mind, she knew she should have put money on her cell that morning when she had the chance. She could have called Alexy or Leo to ask them for directions. She wandered helplessly from the north wing to the center wing in a state of total confusion. Her head snapped from side to side trying to remember the way she had come when Lysander had showed her around. But then again, that time she had been too busy trying to keep her temper in control. That's what she had stubbornly believed.

The truth was, and she wouldn't admit it that she had been too busy trying not to stare at the boy with her piercing gaze. Or not make a fool of herself, or be herself, rather said. She was still convinced that no one had to know about her because if they did, they would take pity on her. And she didn't want pity. Above all things in the world she wouldn't have pity. She didn't want pretty fake words to console her. She didn't want anyone taking advantage of the innocence she possessed. The innocence she possessed because of her lack of experience.

She tried to not to look like a lost person in the middle of the campus but she failed and anyone with two eyes could have seen the confusion across her face. Finally, she decided to ask someone she knew but as she scanned among the crowds there was no one at all.

"Lost?" inquired an amused voice. She didn't recognize it and her shoulders stiffened completely. But when she turned around she saw a boy with flaming red hair and gray eyes. Castiel.

"Yes. Do you know where the library is?"

"Maybe." Said Castiel crossing his arms over his chest.

"or maybe not." Castiel grinned and said.

"Come on, I'll show you." She followed him and they went into the South wing.

When they reached the library she realized this was where she and Lysander had been until Castiel had interrupted them. Her cheeks flamed something that didn't go unnoticed by Castiel.

He pushed the door and didn't pause to see whether Rosaline was behind him or not. She hesitated but followed him inside the handsome library. It had oak furniture, Tall and glossy bookshelves flowing with volumes and volumes of books. There were long light brown tables with little lamps at the four corners, there was a fireplace and soft looking plush beanbags beside it and a handsome Persian carpet gleamed on the floor looking soft and inviting. She looked down to see that Castiel was walking down the steps without sparing a glance at her and she walked calmly down the steps. Following Castiel to one of the tables where surprisingly, Bianca and Rosalya were with books in their hands. Rosalya looked up from her book, when she saw her she smiled.

"Rosaline! What a coincidence to see you here." Rosie couldn't decide whether to be uncomfortable or not. Rosalya had that glitter in her eyes that indicated she was up to no good and she had seen the same look millions of times in front of her in the eyes of Joe, her sister. It made Rosaline want to run, run, far away. Rosie decided to use plan A she had for these occasions: going along with the flow.

"I suppose." She peered over them to see that just in front of them was the bookshelves looking inviting. "Um, do any of you know where is the section of non-fiction?"

"Nope." Said Bianca.

"Uh-uh" said Rosalya and Rosie was kind of dismayed.

"Do you know anyone who might know?"

"Well," Rosalya but her lip. "Nathaniel may know, or Melody but I think Lys-baby might too."

"I see." She turned looking for the reference desk which wasn't nowhere were she could see it so Rosie blew out a sigh and said. "Thank you." she then walked to the section of fiction hoping there would be something there that would help her.

She thought of how that morning Lysander had told her about Nine Stories. She stopped walking and blush crept her cheeks. Why did this boy make feel this way? He was just…a boy, wasn't he?

But then again, he wasn't like the other guys she'd met so far in her life except maybe…She shook her head. No one was like the person she truly, truly loved. But that person was someone with whom she had no chance anymore. She shook her head. Her mind arguing with her gave her splitting headaches.

She didn't realize she had walked into the section where they kept bestsellers. She was pleasantly surprised to see that the bookshelves were lined with the books that had been part of her childhood and adolescence. Harry Potter, The Mortal Instruments, Percy Jackson, Shiver, The Bane Chrocnicles, The Fault in Out Stars and so many other books that Rosaline felt dizzy. It was so weird to be in a library. She had gone two times in her life to the library. One was when she was 16 and they had gone to field trip and two…well, now was number two.

This place is bigger than I thought.

She ducked and walked up to nearest bookshelves and picked one at random. She snorted and smirked as she saw the cover title of the book. Matilda.

"So you can smile." Rosie dropped the book she was holding and turned aback to see Castiel standing with arms crossed at the mouth between two bookshelves.

"Perhaps you might have failed to notice but I am a human being. I do have the capability to smile. Ocasionally." He threw his hands up.

"the girlie has nails."

"I have more than that if you test my temper." She said quietly whist Castiel raised an eyebrow.

"then why didn't you kill Lysander already? It's obvious that you are angry with him." Her eyes narrowed. She didn't notice her hands had curled themselves into fists.

"I don't see what it has to do with you."

"Well, it has. My best mate is not someone you would like to mess with." He said with equal venom.

"I have no intention whatsoever to do anything to him." She retorted in a bored voice but her body was tensed. What was with these people and that boy? Was he some sort of celebrity or something?

"Really?" said Castiel doubtfully. "How do I know that you won't hit him or beat him or hurt him?"

"I fail to see why I should have a reason to hit him or beat him." She shot back with an eyebrow raised. "as for hurting him. Let me give you a piece of advice Mr. Bloodriver. Life is short but in that short life you will hurt people with or against your will so I wouldn't bother in telling me to not hurt your friend." She cocked her head to the side. "Perhaps, I have already hurt him."

She knew that she said the last to be nasty and because she needed someone who could take away Lysander. If she could do something, anything to drive that boy far away then she might as well start with her friends, shouldn't she? Since she couldn't really be nasty directly, first she would be nasty to his friends and then she would be nasty with him personally.

Yes, this was her plan and I was going to work. She bent to pick up the book that had fallen out of her hand and brushed past Castiel with her head raised imperiously and her walk a tad bit exaggerated but her heart was aching already. She had to push away once again people. People who couldn't know the truth about her.

Meanwhile Castiel stood frozen for moment and then felt a smile tugging his mouth. This girl was definitely something. He hoped that she and Bianca would be friends and he hoped that Lysander would get this girl Perhaps, she could help him a little.

When she finally found the information desk and asked for permition to borrow the book and directions to find the books of medicine, Rosie was confused. Why would anyone put two separate libraries in one humungous campus? They had told her that the library with scholarly textbooks were in the East Wing. As she walked among the high bookshelves of the literature library she discovered that they did have her favorite books and much, much more.

Finally, deciding to go check the East Wig library later since she was tired. Sitting down at a random table, she took out some things out of her messenger bag. Which included her notebook. She started writing down everything she could remember from the first 15 minutes of Mrs. Cecily's class.

Part of the reason why the field of genetics is so important is because it can tell more about a person's health than

"May I sit here?" said a deep and suave voice. Rosaline looked up, she was slightly dazed when she looked up and the person caught her off guard so she wasn't able to mask her face with cold politeness.

"Oh?" she asked and then felt stupid for asking so she said. "Yes if you want." She said coolly gaining her composure again. The boy however didn't seem to notice her icy tone of voice instead he gave her a flirty smile and sat down. Rosie returned to her notes and focusing back to whatshe had forgotten to write. Her eyes were focused and there was a maniac glint in them, a strand of hair was coming out of her braid. She wasn't aware of the boy analyzing her face, trying to check out her body which for her luck was covered up well in a loose, long sleeved white shirt and a long black skirt. When he failed to see he decided to see if she was easy.

"so…what's a pretty girl like you doing here?" the girl looked up surprised for a moment and then upon seeing the guy's face her eyes became full of hatred.

"actually, I am almost done" she got and took her things with more force than necessary stalking out. She really hated when boys did this to her and it seemed to be happening more often.

What was wrong with her? Had she grown a third eye or something that guys had the need to flirt with her more often? She started stomping down the corridor her eyes not really looking the in front of her.

Which was the reason why she bumped into someone for the second time the same day, she stopped her eyes focusing into the person in front of her. She froze when she saw Lysander, something that seemed to happen to her only with this boy. With others she would be surprised, angry, happy…anything but with this boy she was simply frozen and not in a good way. It like fire staying still before starting to blaze. He opened his mouth to say something but a voice shouted.

"Hey, wait!" rosie was glad that they were interrupted for a moment but her relief vanished because the boy form before was racing towards them. He stopped shocked when he saw them.

"I think you fail to notice that we are in the library." Said Rosie poiletly trying to drip her voice with as much as sarcasm humanly possible. "yYu should keep your voice down." The boy was looking at Lysander with curiosity and realization dawned upon him, which surprised Rosie who failed to see what was surprising the boy so much.

"No wonder you're such a bitch." He said in a low voice that unfortunately Rosalien and Lysander heard. Lysander stiffened. How could someone call a girl a bitch? He took a step forward to say something but Rosaline beat him to it.

"Oh, Really? Am I the prostitute? I wasn't the one who was trying to see my breasts." The boy stiffened and Lysander stood still momentarily, anger was starting to boil inside him. How dare? "Oh, I did see you trying to see them." She walked a little closer to the boy and leaned close. "Do you know what happens when you know the exact vein you have to slash to kill someone?" The boy stood there surprised and then quickly turned and went away from the same path he came from. She took a shaky breath and unclenched her fists.

"I'm sorry for that." She said without turning around. Lysander was surprised.

"For what exactly?" he asked calmly.

"For losing my temper."

"You had a right to, he insulted you." He said with a hint of edge in his voice. Rosaline was surprised, before she could have been insulted and back at home it was expected that she wouldn't retort and leave quietly, like she pretended and people idiotically believed. They would have expected her to be indifferent but here they don't know you. She reminded herself silently. Finally, she turned around and didn't say anything for a long, long time.

"I see, so you wouldn't have minded if I had said something ruder?" she finally broke the silence, tossing her head to the side.

"I think you had the right to anything to the young man. Especially after he insulted you that way." Rosie felt oddly touched.

"I don't really understand why, though." She said looking at him thoughtfully, no, past him thoughtfully. Lysander did know but if he said it then…there would be an awkward silence between both of them and surely, she was joking right?

She wasn't that…unaware? Or was she?

He looked at her back but she didn't seem aware of him looking at her intently until her eyes focused again and when she realized, blush started appearing on her cheeks.

"Umm…it seems I am bumping into you quite often." She blurted out and then she cursed herself mentally, she wasn't supposed to be friendly at him, she wasn't supposed to be nice to him, she was supposed to be nasty or evil or something so that he would hate her but everything she seemed to be doing was the opposite. In fact, it was almost as if she was flirting with him, which she was doing and Rosie didn't seem to be aware of it.

"Perhaps it is a coincidence." Rosie would have liked to believe that, If only things were coincidences when it came to her life but she wouldn't say something like that out loud. Well, she would but not to Lysander so out loud she said.

"Maybe." When she saw there was a book in his hand she felt the need to ask. "What is that?" she pointed at the book. Lysander lifted the book and looked at her vaguely surprised.

"This? It's Nine Stories." blood rushed to her cheeks with more force.

"Oh." She said in a small voice. "I was searching for it."

"Were you?" said Lysander stared impassively but he was as surprised as Rosaline was embarrassed.

"Um, yes but… if you are using it…"

"No, if you need it you can have it. I have other places where I can find books." He reached out the book towards her and Rosaline looked from his hand to his face. Her features contorted in a conflicted expression. Lysander would have never guessed it but Rosaline was thinking deciding whether she could trust this boy. Finally, hesitantly she took the book from him carefully, the way one might handle something rare and precious.

"Thank you." She said very softly her cheeks completely and utterly red. Lysander smiled, he thought she looked adorable.

Neither of them was aware that that was the start of their love story.
