Rosie woke up earlier on Saturday, which was saying something because she was usually up at 5:00 in the morning. That particular day she had gotten up at 4:00 which was an indication that something was wrong. Today, at 8:00 she was supposed to see Lysander at the park and she was very, very, very nervous. It wasn't her first time meeting someone outside, she had done it 2 times, when she was 16 but that time it had been with her friends.
Not. .
Especially a boy that is hot and has read my notebook and who makes me... thought Rosie and then immediately starting to shake her head like an idiot. We are supposed to work. That was what she kept repeating to herself.
Work.
Work.
Work.
But for some reason (which was not obvious to her) Rosie felt utterly nervous, as if she were going to pee at any moment. Finally she decided to work out earlier, she got up from her bed and put on her trousers, a loose shirt and a hoodie. She padded to her closet barefoot, she took out a pair of socks neatly folded and put them on along with her brand new blue and grey sneakers.
The moment she stepped outside she started running, running as if the devil himself was chasing her. She was listening to Lego House which was her favorite ballad of Ed Sheeran a great contrast to the speed in which she was running. In fact, she wasn't aware of anything else except the adrenaline pumping inside her. That is, until she crashed into someone, falling on her bum painfully. Her headphones were yanked from her ears painfully. She looked up doe eyed because she had been very concentrated and she had been snapped out of it abruptly. The person in front of her was wearing red work out clothes.
It was Bianca.
"Well this is awkward." said the raven haired girl. Neither girl had bothered to get up, they were looking at each other. The raven haired girl feeling envious of the brunette's gorgeous almond shaped eyes, full mouth and the thick eyebrows and the curves, especially those curves still visible beneath the loose shirt. She wasn't aware that Rosie was marveling at her physique too, her thin, wiry build and intimidating electric blue eyes but with hint of girlishness because of their round shape. She was especially envious of her beautiful aristocratic nose.
Finally realizing that they were staring at each other they got up, Bianca got up first and offered Rosie hand which she ignored.
"Thank you for offering me your hand."
"You didn't exactly take it." Snickered Bianca, Rosie shrugged.
"I like to stand up by myself." Bianca's lips twitched she reminded her of herself when she first came to Sweet Amoris. Unflexible, unmoving, proud. She was sure that this girl was in for the same thing she had found when she had first come into sweet amoris.
Love.
And she was sure that the lucky one was going to be Lysander. It had to be because Lysander of all people deserved to be loved and he had already set his sights on her. But! She had to check if this girl was the one because not anyone could be for Lysander. The one for him had to be basically a person that loved him back and was a good person. This girl didn't look much like her but she was like her (except maybe for the fact that she acted shyer)
In other words she was hiding something.
Rosie took a step forward but she winced and touched herself just above her right hip.
"Ow."
"You okay?" asked Bianca concerned.
"No." and Bianca surprisingly laughed which made Rosaline curious, why did everyone laugh when she said the truth? Bianca stopped laughing and noticed the brunette observing with her head cocked to the side, her lips parted at little.
"Let's sit down." and so they did in the nearest bench which was incidentally near the fountain in the middle of the park. They didn't say anything because neither of them felt the need to say anything. Rosie didn't even know what to say. Blame it on years of being alone and having your thoughts as your companions.
"So how are you liking Sweet Amoris?" asked Bianca.
"I'm liking it so far, the weather's nice."
"Nice? At this time of the year there are only gray days." Rosie looked at the sky squinting a little.
"I like gray days, especially windy ones."
"You're weird." said Bianca playfully punching Rosie on the shoulder. The brunette gave her small smile as if she couldn't help it.
"I was born this way."
"You like Lady Gaga?" Rosaline shrugged.
"Sort of."
"What is your favorite singer?" Rosie shrugged again.
"There are so many that are my favorites."
"Like?" Bianca pressed.
"Um…Ed Sheeran? Do you know him?" Bianca did know him and that was because of a certain romantic experience she had had….
"Yes." She said and a blush appeared on her cheeks. Rosie raised an eyebrow but didn't ask.
"What about you? Which is your favorite musician?"
"Let's see. Lady Antebellum, Katy Perry, One Direction…"
"Teenager bands?" asked Rosaline amused.
"Of course! We are still teenagers mind you, but I also like Coldplay, The beatles, Metallica and…"
She likes Metallica? thought Rosie surprised. There were not many girls she knew that liked hard rock bands. She did like Metallica but it wasn't part of her favorite bands, like Green Day. She realized she hadn't listened to what Bianca had been saying for the past minute or so and she focused her attention back.
"… so far?"
"I'm sorry, what?" Bianca didn't get angry.
"what do you think of the people so far at the University?"
"Um…they are nice?"
"Even amber?" asked Bianca with all seriousness, though she meant the question as a joke.
"I don't think she is that bad." The raven haired girl snorted.
"Yeah, right. Amber isn't bad, Castiel doesn't have black hair."
"I thought Mr. Blooddriver's hair was red."
"It's dyed." said Bianca as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Ah." Was all Rosie said.
"say…" began Bianca casually. "What do you think of the boys in the University?" Rosie merely shrugged.
"Don't know them enough."
"but surely there must be someone who has caught your attention." pressed Bianca.
"umm..." rosie shifted uncomfortably.
"it's not Castiel is it?" teased Bianca. rosie looked at her and her expression changed from flustered to serious.
"He is your boyfriend." She said as if it explained everything.
"but that doesn't mean you can't find him hot."
"He is handsome." Said Rosaline. "but he is in a relationship."
"so you do like him!" said Bianca delightedly. Rosie was surprised. Usually girlfriends were very….er…possessive of their boyfriends but Bianca was not even nervous and was even asking if she found her boyfriend hot.
"I don't. I don't think he is a bad person either." She refrained from saying that she thought he was a sarcastic bastard but Bianca seemed to read it in her expression.
"I know Castiel can be…rude but he is really nice. You just have to be yourself, no formalities and some jokes and you'll be good friends."
"okay." Was all Rosie said.
"oh and as for Lysander…" Said Bianca mischievously. Rosie felt a pang of annoyance. why?
"I don't like him." Bianca raised her eyebrow high.
"I am not in love with him." Corrected Rosie. And Bianca's face remained carefully blank.
"No? I don't see why no one falls in love with him. He is such a nice chap."
"I don't believe in love at first sight. You have to get to know a person before you fall in love with them." Bianca was unmoved, so she said.
"Then I suppose I should go straight to the point shouldn't I?" she said seriously.
"Maybe, so I can have things clear."
"Fine. Lysander is one of my best friends and he deserves the perfect girl."
"Perfection is perspective." said Rosie.
"In someone's eyes we can be perfect and don't change the subject." Rosie didn't say anything she just slumped a little back. "I don't want him to get hurt and I'm pretty sure you're confused as to what you're feeling because of him finding your notebook." Shock was visible in Rosie's face and she felt a small triumph she was getting to Rosaline but it wasn't victory yet. "Don't confuse it with love because it may not be and he may not like you. He just feels embarrassed." So that wasn't exactly true but… "So if you like him good. A little effort and I think he could like you back but if you don't, don't lead him on. Or you won't like the consequences." Rosie at the last sentence smirked lazily and arrogantly. Bianca was unnerved by how much it reminded her of…
"Is that all?" she asked lightly but her body spoke volumes. She got up and looked at Bianca straight in the eye.
"Yes." Said Bianca composedly.
"Okay." Was all she said before getting up, turning back and slipping her headphones on.
"Oh, and Bianca?" the raven haired girl was a little shocked by hearing her name come from the brunette's lips.
"yes?" asked Bainca.
"Thank you." And she started running. Bianca who had hoped to tweak her, to make her realize, was surprised. That wasn't exactly what she had hoped for and thought now she had an enemy.
But that wasn't the case.
After small talk with Bianca, Rosie ran even faster. She was annoyed of course by the words of Bianca but…she would have done the same, had it been her friend. And now she had all the reassurance she needed. Lysander didn't like her. He didn't so…she could just act politely towards him like everyone else!
But the thing was that she had to figure how she felt. Because truth be told she did feel very unsettled when she was with Lysander. She didn't realize a sigh escaped her as she was running. But it was to be expected. It wasn't as if a little bit of freedom could make her attractive to the male population. She was almost considered a man in her old school.
When she returned home the sweat on her forehead and hands had cooled down but inside her hoodie she was toasting and her legs were warm too. As soon as she reached home she took a quick, warm shower when she emerged from the toilet, she was wearing a pair dark blue shorts, a black shirt with sleeved that reached above her elbow and a pair flip flops.
Her wet hair was in tangles and a blue towel with huge flower printed on it was around her shoulders preventing her shirt from getting soaked. She padded to her room and didn't bother to use the hairdryer that Alexy let her use. Rosie preferred her hair drying naturally. When she was done she went into the kitchen and started making breakfast, even though it was 6:00 normally, Rosie made breakfast at 6:30 or so.
It took her 15 minutes exactly to have2 cups of coffee (one black for Leo and one with milk and lots of sugar for Alexy), a cup of green tea with berries (for her), a rack of steaming toast, 2 eggs, and a plate of warm brownies. Their smell invaded the house drenching the air with it's sweet harmony.
Alexy who was a brownie lover was the first one to enter the kitchen, his eyes were puffy, rimmed with red and his face was arranged into a unusually grim expression. Rosie noticed it immediately and a look of alarm crossed her face.
"Lexi? What's wrong?" she asked and almost immediately wished she hadn't bevcause Alexy's lower lip started trembling, she got up, nearly knocking the toast rack and she put her hands on Alexy's shoulders.
"lexi, lexi what happened?" she asked in a small childlike voice. Alexy pressed his lips together and shook his head, tears had started splattering his face. Rosie who didn't seem to notice that Alexy was asking for space got on her tip toes and stopped alexy's face with her both hands. He barely seemed to notice and he closed his eyes tightly trying to top the stream of tears emerging. Rosie bit her lip and pulled away from Alexy guiding him to sit down at the chair on the living room. He had started to shake, he was biting his lip so hard that there was red line in the middle of his lower lip. Rosie who didn't know what to do in these situations kneeled at the base of the chair and she tried to say something comforting in her most soothing voice.
"I there anything you need? Water? Tea? A punching bag?" Alexy choked which rosie assumed was a snort and he was rewarded by sporadic smile from Alexy.
"Do you want to be alone to cry out your tears?" she asked sincerely and she looked at Alexy whose face was about to break.
"yes." He whispered and Rosie was disappointed but also glad. She felt like suffocating because she didn't know what to do so she quickly put on the first pair of shoes she found which were a pair black school shoes, she grabbed her black trench coat, her leather bag, tossed in her school work and practically ran out of the house, forgetting to grab something for the way.
Alexy was no longer in the living room, he probably had gone to his room was what Rosie thought but as she was about to put the key in the lock, she stopped outside the door. Upon a moment of hesitation she withdrew and turned back starting to walk outside the building she had grown used to since the past 3 months, to call "home". When she stepped outside she realized that her bed was undone, the dishes not cleaned and she hadn't woken up Leo to eat breakfast.
She bit her lip and decided she needed a distraction. She took out her 2 year old I-pod and slipped on her headphones, starting to walk towards the park. Not because she hoped Lysander was there or something, she just needed a pretty sight.
No, not a pretty boy. A pretty background. Yes, she thought. That is just what I needed. She stepped confidently among the streets glad that she knew how to get to the park. When he arrived to the park she was glad to see the sun coming out form the valley, casting light on the park. The birds were chirping though Rosie couldn't hear it because of her headphones, the greenness of the plants seemed sharper under the light. She was listening to Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day. It was one of her favorite songs because in the moments she had felt horribly alone she listened to it and felt better.
She started walking towards a bench in the shadow when she saw someone sitting on the same bench she had been sitting on earlier with Bianca. It was someone who incidentally she knew. Silver hair with black low tips, tall and willowy. His head ducked, his arm moving probably writing on his notebook. Rosie pushed back her headphones and stared in awe, his back was to her and she couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed and happy. She walked carefully towards Lysander, he didn't seem to notice, she paused for a moment behind his back and thought of wrapping her hands around his eyes to surprise but really? What was she? A kid? Besides, she didn't know Lysander. It wasn't as if they were close or anything. Instead, she tapped Lysander's shoulder and said.
"Mr. Ainsworth?" the boy's head snapped back and when he saw her, his eyes widened, there was a faint blush starting to spread across his cheeks.
"Rosaline?" he said and his voice indicated that he didn't really expect her there.
"Hello." She said politely, and walked to the front of the bench and sat down.
"I thought we were going to meet up at 8:00 o'clock." Rosie's face fell little and she looked away chewing her lip. Alexy had looked so distraught that morning.
"What is it? Did anything happen?" he asked touching her arm lightly. Rosie surprised by the gesture, looked back to Lysander doe-eyed. Lysander withdrew his hand back to his side awkwardly. There was silence between them and she could feel the tension coursing through her. Finally she sighed and started talking.
"It's Alexy." She didn't notice the momentary shift in Lysander's eyes. Jealousy.
"What about him?" he asked in a soft voice.
"It's just…" Rosie hesitated, she could talk to…but that would not be good. And really, who else could she talk to? "Do you promise not to tell anyone?" Lysander nodded.
"I swear. Upon my notebook." He held it up trying to get Rosaline to relax and she smiled a little but her shoulders were completely and utterly tensed.
"It's just, I saw him crying and he wouldn't tell me why."
"Perhaps he didn't want to tell." Lysander couldn't hide a bit of disappointment. She was a curious person, after all, wasn't she?
"I know but I would feel better if I knew. I could try giving him advice…" she stopped and bit back her tongue she sounded childish. Besides, she gave horrible advice and Lysander's expression though, calm and composed made her feel a little unsettled. One peek and she looked away, her lips tightly pressed together. Lysander seeing the tension in her felt a little stone in the depths of his stomach, she was worried and for a guy, Alexy was gay but still, that didn't really stop him from feeling a little…well, abnormally jealous.
"I just worry about Alexy. He always looks so happy and energetic all the time and when he worries it…makes me feel sad because he's like a sun. He always makes things so lively." She said it fondly and Lysander sighed a little in relief she liked Alexy but not in that way, rosie looked at him and misinterpreted his expression.
"I'm sorry. Me here making things sad." Lysander opened his mouth to say something but then she said something instead."If I 'm not wrong we had to discuss the story we have to summit for the contest, right?"
Or we could talk about how adorable you look this morning. Thought Lysander. And it was true though her body was mostly covered up by her trench coat and long black skirt, probably to throw of her body's good looks or to cover up from the chill, Lysander wasn't sure but her face was glowing a faint pink on her cheeks, her hair slightly wet was loose and long. It did look very soft and he was tempted to run his fingers between the strands of her hair.
"Yes." He said in a constricted voice and Rosie raised an eyebrow. He cleared his throat and said a little louder. "Yes I remember. I didn't really think much of your story." Rosie didn't seem bothered in fact she said.
"I didn't either." She leaned her head back and breathed in. For a long time neither of them said anything and they were in comfortable silence, each one in their own thoughts. Some of them of each other, some of them about books, food, problems, unrequited love. Lines blurring so fast that they were less individual thoughts and more like trains of thought. It was Lysander who finally broke the silence.
"So, should we get started?" Rosaline by answer opened her eyes.
After an hour of sharing ideas, certain scenes and some disagreements, Lysander and Rosaline had finally decided to take a main character each and develop it further. Lysander had decided to pick Maira because he strongly suspected it was Rosaline herself the main character in the story and he wanted to show some nice things about the character, Rosaline had decided to choose a new character she had introduced in the story, Micheal. A mysterious boy that was oddly quiet but very sweet boy which was "loosely" based in Lysander. And she had to be subtle about their similarities but she also wanted to put the special things in Lysander, like the little things no one else could see. Not because she liked him or anything, it was just he was an interesting person.
Like the fact that he was always smelling like something very…odd. He always smelled like outdoors, books and Lysander.
Like the fact that Lysander could be really shy or bold when least expected.
Like the fact that Lysander was a possessive guy.
Or like the fact that Lysander fell in love with Rosaline when he first heard her sing.
All that she didn't now at that moment but would come to learn later.
Lysander had a lot of fun talking with Rosaline in fact, he felt better after talking to her. They had decided to take a break and Rosie had slipped on her headphones her head was propped on the bench, her eyes closed and Lysander wished her head was on his shoulder.
With her eyes closed, she looked almost vulnerable. Her eyebrows were not furrowed, the lines around her mouth softened, her eyelashes were long, dark and Lysander suspected that she had curled them.
Abruptly her eyes opened and she looked up at the sky, her eyes a little glassy. He turned his face quickly away from her and looked up too. It was a nice morning, sun shinning, clear sky, birds chirping.
Rosaline looked at her I-pod and sighed.
"I have to go to work."
"It's weekend." Said Lysander and Rosie surprisingly grinned.
"Some of us have to work every day." She said looking and him and her eyes widened at a spot behind his shoulder. "Oh!" she said with delightful surprise. She grabbed her bag and took out her wallet, Lysander who was confused decided to observe. When she looked at it, Rosie was upset.
"Damn it." She muttered under her breath and Lysander peered over his shoulder to see what had caught her attention and saw an old man with a little cart. Lysander was a little surprised, he was selling churros. He wasn't a huge fan if them but he knew a little blue eyed, 4 year old little girl that was.
"You want to buy churros?" he asked.
"Erm…yes. But it's alright I'll buy some other time." The truth is she had left all her extra money at home, in her saving jar.
"I'll buy you one." said Lysander looking at her. Rosie started talking in a flustered manner.
"No, no!" she flapped her hands to the sides with her eyes closed. Lysander wasn't put off, in fact, he insisted.
"Come on, it's a good way to sweeten your day." Rosie seeing he was already up, knew he wasn't going to take a no for as an answer so she got up and walked with him to the vendor. Lysander asked her which one she wanted and she, flustered said that any was fine. So, Lysander asked for a bag of 6 churros sprinkled with confectioner's sugar and one dipped in chocolate and with creamy filling. He took the packet for Amelia and gave Rosaline the big churro dipped in chocolate sauce. She took it carefully from him. She took a bite her eyes widened a little, and she gave him a full lip smile. Well, at least she likes it. Though Lysander.
They walked in silence towards the bench and sat down. Lysander kept the churro packet in his right hand. It was comfortable silence and halfway through her churro, Rosie stopped eating and said.
"Thank you." She said in a small voice. He looked and smiled at her, he had seen gone to enough double dates with Leigh, Rosalya and OC to know that most girls took things for granted, that boys should buy them whatever they asked for, that they would do whatever they asked for and they didn't even thank. Rosaline didn't. She was even blushing which Lysander found adorable.
"Thank you Lysander." he stopped in his tracks. She called him by his name, not by his last name. he didn't realize he was smiling completely now, not a smile with his lips but a smile with his teeth, from ear to ear.
"You're welcome Rosie." He said before he could help himself.
"No one has ever called me Rosie." She said cocking her head in wonder.
"If you don't like it…" said Lysander.
"No, I like it, please call me Rosie."
"Then you have to call me Lysander." She blushed even more.
"Not always." She said looking away. "Just sometimes." Lysander couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. Rosie returned to her churro and started chewing it again. They sat in silence for a while before there was a beeping and Rosie frowning took out her phone. When she looked at it, her eyes widened to the size of eggs.
"Ah, crap I really have to go."
"It's alright." said Lysander.
"Um, before I go I have to tell you two things."
"Which would be?"
"One, that I'll send you my part of the story when I have it ready through a e-mail, I'll send it in as attachment. I'll send you a text when I'm done." She waved her phone a little.
"Alright, but you don't have my e-mail." said Lysander gently. Rosie who was holding her notebook in her left hand propped it and fished a pen out of her pocket.
"Um, would you mind giving it to me, then?" she said shyly. Lysander took the pen and scribbled his e-mail.
"Thank you."
"I have better idea though." said Lysander.
"What?" he took out his kindle from the bag that was slung over his shoulder.
"You said you needed to see some plays of Cheknov and stories of Maupassant, didn't you?"
"Well, I did but isn't that yours?"
"I don't always use it, and it seems you could use it."
"Oh, okay. Thank you again for everything." She said looking at him directly in the eye, this time without blushing or anything just observing him carefully. There was a silence and she finally said. "I should get going, bye Mr. Ainsworth." When she called him by his last name again Lysander felt disappointed and Rosie saw so. She felt her heart contract a little. It was too soon to trust anyone yet.
Her heart ached a little.
After Lysander saw Rosie leaving safely he decided to head to Bianca's house where his little godchild would be there.
When he arrived to the front porch, Amelia was playing with demon. When she saw him she squealed and ran towards him, Lysander opened his arms and lifted Amelia throwing her into the air, she started laughing and he caught her again.
"Are those churros for me?" she asked batting her eyes innocently. Amelia only batted her eyes for her godfather Lysander. For a 4 year old kid she was bright, she was serious and didn't usually play around, unless it was Lysander, Demon, Castiel, Bianca, Mrs. Potts and Iris occasionally. Even in kindergarten she was quiet.
Lysander handed her the packet and demon came barking too, the smell of the sweets making him happy. Demon was a picky dog when it came to food (he only ate premium dog food and biscuits) but if it was churros he could drown on them, which had happened before, literally. Bianca had even taken a picture.
"Careful there sweetie don't want Demon to eat your candy, don't you?" Lysander looked up and Castiel was standing by the garden, restraining Demon by his collar without much success really. And Amelia being the sweet little child she was went to Demon and gave her half of her churros. Castiel picked her up and pecked the top of her head. Lysander smiled without knowing. Castiel used to be a deadpan sarcastic asshole. Well, he still was. Btu not so much since he had gotten together with Bianca. Honestly, those two were perfect for each other.
And every time he saw them together Lysander felt happy because it reassured him of the decision he had made 2 years ago. Letting Bianca go.
"So you're here to steal my daughter." said Castiel. This was a popular joke between them.
"I think that is little Matthew, not me." said Lysander throwing his hands up in surrender. At that Castiel's eyes got a maniac glint. Yep, the same one a father got when their daughter started dating or Rosalya when she planned getting two people together. (Which incidentally Rosalya was doing right now with Alexy but Lysander didn't know that.)
"Papa, Lys-kun brought me churros!" said Amelia delightedly. Castiel smiled from ear to ear and gave brilliant smile to Lysander.
"Ah, grinning like idiots in the morning, I see. May I join the club?" asked an amused female voice from behind, Bianca. She was wearing work out pants and a light blue tank top… Castiel's smile got even more brilliant which made it hard to look at him. He reached and put his nose on her hair, Bianca smiled and leaned her head on Castiel's shoulder.
"Ah, lovebirds even in the morning?" asked a voice behind them, Iris. She walked with her hands tucked in her shorts and gave Lysander a smirk. "quite sickening isn't it?" she said in a mock serious voice.
"Yeah, you two should just get a room." said the boy holding the hand that wasn't in her pocket, Jade.
"What about you two?" asked Bianca jerking her chin towards the couple.
"Ah, well not all of us are in lovey dovey." said Lysander lightly. The two couples felt a little sad and Amelia who was loved her godfather said.
"Then I'll be lovey dovey with you Uncle Lysander!" said Amelia making move towards Lysander but Castiel stepped in.
"I think you can't sweetie." Said Castiel conspirationally. "He'll also be lovey dovey soon with Rosaline."
"Who's Rosaline?" asked Jade and Amelia and Bianca smiling a Cheshire cat smile said in a mischievous tone just like her boyfriend.
"Lysander's future wife." Lysander choked on his own saliva.
