Chapter 5: Digidestined Dig Though Rubble, Warriors Train, and Tamers get a Surprise
It turned out to be the very night after their discussion that the digidestined of Odaiba got a chance to go to the now wrecked train station. It had taken a bit of persuading to their parents in order to be allowed out this late, but in the end the only ones who couldn't shown up were Matt, due to him having a gig with his band that night, Yolei due to her having to babysit her visiting uncles five year old niece, and Joe, who had another medical seminar early in the morning.
The remaining teens decided to get there about an hour after police were done investigating for the day, and the clean up crews had all left.
Pulling the hood of the white jacket Kari was wearing over her head more, she gave a quick look around, then quietly walked over to the station and slipped under the police tape. Gatomon followed closely behind, disguised as a curious cat.
A few minutes later, the remainder of the group slowly sneaked in, a pair of digimon and human at a time and from different entry points to avoid suspicion.
The last group, which was Tai and Mimi pretending to be a curious couple (of course, Mimi had a sly grin all the while she held onto Tai's arm) finally sneaked in and got to the point they discussed, a small snicker being shared between the others at Tai's nervousness around Mimi.
"Right, so were all here right?" The brunette asked, checking over and seeing everyone who said they could come to the search. "Great! Izzy, if you would be as so kind as to explaining what we are looking for?" Izzy, who had his computer out, typed a few more buttons on his keypad before turning the screen to them, showing them the same image from earlier today.
"Okay. In order for the gate to be that deep underground and for Takuya along with his friends to escape through it, there had to be a large hole or stairwell of some sort. While a large hole would be too conspicuous, so it had to have been blended into the environment. Like a hidden stairwell or something.." He trailed off, getting nods of understanding from everyone.
On that note, the group split apart, going off to look for clues, or a sign of something that wasn't supposed to be here.
Ken, who had been partnered with Davis, lifted up another large rock with his help so that their partners could look underneath. "Y'know, this is kinda strange.." Ken said, voicing a thought that had been stuck in his head for a while now. "Why was the digital gate underneath a train station? I mean, couldnt they have just used a computer and open a digital gate like we do?"
Davis pondered on it for a second before shrugging, setting the large rock they were lifting back down. "I dunno. Maybe they don't have D-3's or computers." He said, making an attempt at some humor.
Ken frowned, realizing that what Davis said may be possible. But if they don't have D-3's, then what kind of digivice do they have? He wondered. It was food for thought.
Kari and Yolei moved around, searching the still intact walls for secret passages or giveaway plates. So far, nothing has been found, but it hasnt stopped Kari's determined searching.
"So," Yolei said, trying to start a conversation to end to silence between them. "you and this Takuya guy were close, huh?" She asked, getting a nod from Kari in response.
"He was my best friend." She said, knocking along a wall before moving to the next side. "My first friend, actually. He saved me from a bunch of bullies." She said, smiling fondly at the memory.
Yolei smiled, knowing how important first friends are. She herself had one as well, but the girl had moved to Hokkaido in the second grade, making it harder to see each other. She did occasionally email her, but they didn't talk as much anymore since she became friends with Kari and the others.
"He sounds like a really nice guy, he didn't look too half bad either-" she held back a laugh as the brunette stumbled, looking back at her with a small blush on her cheeks and a incredulous expression. " I'm just teasing you. I wouldnt go after him, after all Ive got my sweet Ken." Yolei laughed, taking note of the girls lightened expression. "What was he like? "
Upon the new subject, Kari got a nostalgic look upon her face. "Takuya was...different than most boys at his age. While others still thought girls had cooties and that boys were better than girls, it was like he completely skipped that part. He didn't care that I was a girl, or that I was really weird or even that I carried a whistle around and used it to get my brothers attention. He just wanted someone to play with and have fun with. In someways, he was like a mini-Tai with a bit of Davis in him." She explained.
"He was adventurous and brave, kind and strong, and made friends with the people around him like he had known them all his life. Do you know how Tai is a really protective older brother? The first day Takuya met him, he somehow ended up playing a soccer game with him and laughing like they were having the time of their lives." She finished, a silly grin on her face.
Yolei was slightly surprised. She had never heard Kari talk about anyone like that, not even her own brother. "I can see why he was your childhood crush." Kari stumbled again, this time falling over. Yolei couldn't help it; she laughed.
"H-how did you-" Yolei waved her off . "It was way too noticeable. You talked about him like he was perfect, was depressed when you thought he might be dead, and Sora kinda said it when we were all gathered together." The purple haired girl winked. "Don't worry, I won't tell a soul." At that, Kari slightly relaxed, but the blush had yet to leave her cheeks.
Suddenly Cody's raspy voice called out. "Hey guys, I think we found something!" He said, him and Izzy standing over a large slab of broken wall. The group gathered near it, watching again as Izzy typed away at his laptop.
"The signal is the strongest at this point, as well as this." At this, Cody took a stone and tapped on the large one. A large, echoing hollow noise was projected off of it. "Armadillomon, can you break it? Its way too big for us to lift it." Cody asked his turtle like partner.
The yellow rookie digimon looked at it for a few moments before nodding. "Stand back everybody, this is going to be loud." The rookie exclaimed.
"Rolling Stone!" His voice echoed, spinning into a ball and glowing a white color. Like a spinning top, he lurched forward, slamming into the stone and shattering it to pebbles. Armadillomon shook the dust off like a dog, standing in the middle of where the stone once was. " All done, Codyyyy!" He jerked in surprise as the ground he was standing on moved upward until he heard a ding.
"An elevator?" Tai questioned, looking at it working and lit up when it obviously should not be. " Guess how they got down. Anybody up for an elevator ride?" He said, him and Agumon walking inside. The rest followed short, before the door closed and the elevator went downwards.
Suddenly the elevator lurched, and speed up, causing the group to grip the bars for dear life before it suddenly slowed down, making them all jump and stumble around. "Owwww..." Davis groaned, rubbing his head where Kens had hit.
The elevator dinged again, open the door as the crowded elevator poured out, realizing with surprise where they ended up.
"Whoah..." They all breathed out in awe. While the station was in rubble, to have a secret station down this far at all was interesting.
"I don't think were getting any further.." Izzy said, looking around and memorizing as much as he could. " Look at the train tunnels. They've all collapsed." He said, pointing towards the broken exits.
Kari paid him no heed as she looked around, amazed that such a place existed. "It looks like there was a really big battle here..." She mumbled to herself, running her hands over a knocked over elevator.
Suddenly her mind was flashed an image of a young boy in a hat and goggles, trying to push the elevator over in frustration.
"He was here..." She said, looking around for any other clues. Tai gave her a strange look.
"How can you tell?" She stumbled on her words. "I..I don't know..but I can feel it, he was here." She said. He gave her a worried glance before turning back to the elevator. "Well, since we can't go any further, I suggest we go back up and collapse the tunnel, don't want the police to find this place now do we?" He said, looking up at the tall ceiling.
The group nodded, and somewhat reluctantly got back into the elevator, letting the doors close and take them back up in a slow fashion. "When we get back, I'll try to contact Gennai, and ask him if he knows anything about new digidestined." Izzy said, shutting his laptop and placing it in his messenger bag. Tai nodded, realizing that they hadn't yet even talked to Gennai about any of this. But then again, these had been a weird two days.
They may have not found what they were looking for, but at least they knew for now that the new Digidestined were safe in the digital world.
If only they knew that it wasn't their own.
Takuya collapsed onto the ground, sweating wildly as his evolution ended. Right now, Cherubimon was helping them with maintaining their evolved state for longer periods of time, since they had recently got a surprising power boost, and struggled slightly controlling it.
Apparently, the spirits amplified their stats that they had as a human to a certain amount, and since they were all older and in physically good shape, the spirits gained a very needed power-up. Relying on two digimon that combined all the spirits wouldn't work this time around. There was a whole army with six demon lord generals. They needed all the manpower they could get. Of course, there was the problems of relearning how to beast and fusion evolve. It was energy draining business.
Panting and tired, he relaxed his body, putting his left wrist to his forehead, feeling the cool steel of his new device.
Attached to his wrist was a watch like device. It was red in color, with a circular shape that molded to his hand and was held there with a black strap. It had a screen on the front, with three buttons on the bottom of the screen and the symbols of spirits outlining the sides. Cherubimon and Seraphimon called it the Digital Communicator, or D-Com for short.
The device was a way to help them stay in contact better than the strange way the D-Tector did. It allowed group calls as well, making it so that if one of them needed to relay info it could be relayed all at once. It was pretty useful. Ophanimon even talked about adding a 'jump' function that could help them go between worlds. She said it would be useful if the Deathly Sin find their way into the real world again.
Groaning as he stood back up, Takuya flicked his fractal code back into life again, standing mesmerized by it before slashing down on his D-Tector.
"Execute!" He echoed, letting the code whirl in the fire before ripping his hand away. "Spirit Evolution!" He shuddered as the familiar feeling of power washed over him, letting himself become larger, more powerful as the evolution completed.
Takuya grinned from behind the swirling fractal code, feeling the power and height difference that becoming Agunimon always brought with its form. The energy was much more than he remembered, but he knew it would just take some getting used to, as the others strugged with controlling themselves as well.
Of course it still lead to some problems, as Tommy struggled with not turning into an ice cube, and J.P frying electronics around him with his aura. He snickered at the memory as Beetlemon appeared out of the fractal code, then shouting in surprise as the light bulbs above him exploded.
Shaking his head of the memories, Agunimon jumped over the slab of rock he washiding behind, rushing Cherubimon from his right as the other warriors attacked his left. Currently the longest one to hold their evolution was Kouichi, but even now he was pushing it; The warrior of flame could see the outline of his form wavering once and a while.
"Burning Salamander!" His voice echoed, flames shooting out from his vents and dancing around his body. The flames concentrated at his hands, enhancing his power even more before taking a swing at his side. The first fist made contact for a moment before the angelic beast grabbed his other arm, snuffing out its flames and then tossing him like a rag-doll across the room.
"Y'know, if the world wasn't in danger I would say your enjoying this." Lobomon said as he dodged a punch, only for his elbow to slam into him and knock him back.
"Oh? What would make you say that?" Cherubimon chuckled, dodging a large wave of ice that Kumamon sent his say. He slammed his right onto the ground, shaking the area and causing Kazemon to take off flying to avoid being knocked over.
The warrior of wind let out a small 'eep!' of surprise when the giant celestial digimon came swinging at her like a fly, making her quickly avoid each swat at her person.
While he was distracted, he forgot to pay attention to the other warriors, turning st the realization to see Lobomon and Agunimon side by side, both gathering their respective elements to form something surprising.
'A unsion attack?!' Cherubimon mentally gasped. They had never done this before! In fact, it was suprising that it looked like it was going to work!
"Shining Burn Slash!" They echoed in unsion, spinning once around then throwing the energies in a crescent shaped slash. The two elements slowly melded together in the air, becoming a giant wall of white hot flames.
Cherubimon had to bite his tounge to stop himself from cursing every single word in the dictionary.
With a flex of his power, the celestial digimon rose from the ground to face the oncoming heat, clapping his hands together as an crackle of lightning poured between them. "Lightning Spear!" He chanted, throwing his hands outwards as a lance of electricity burst into existamce between them.
Grabbing it and throwing it like a lance, the spear came in contact with the wall of fire, keeping it at bay for a few moments before shattering and the wall coming upon him.
Cherubimon did curse this time. He shielded himslef with his arms as his vision faded away to black.
When the celestial beast type was returned to consciousness, he looked up to see the legendary warriors, now reverted into their human forms standing over him, giving him worrisome glances as he awoke. He groaned, shaking off the dirt that had landed on his body when he fell back with a thud.
"What...what was that last attack?" He finally rasped out, giving questioning looks to Takuya and Koji. The two looked at each other strangely, as if silently prodding the other to speak up before Koji sighed. "We are...actually not all that quite sure. We were charging up our next surprise attack next to you when our power just began to merge itself together." he explained. Takuya just rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
"It was really powerful though, right? I mean, it did knock you out." Takuya teased.
"That it did..don't use it on me again though. I don't want to be an egg again so soon." Cherubimon stated, dusting himself off. The mega could feel his damage repairing himself, but he would probably be sore for a couple of hours..maybe a day or two..
"I think we are done for today." He said, trudging off to his chambers. Damn kids and their ancient spirits.. He groaned again. Wondering why he thought it was a good idea to spar with the people who defeated him when he was a crazy juggernaut.
Back at the training area, Tommy's eyes were sparkling of amazement. "That was soo cool! Do you think we can do that?" He asked the duo. "Ice Cold Fire Or Shinning Ice! Imagine how cool those would be!" he rambled. Takuya chuckled, and ruffled the younger boys hair. "Maybe. It would be awesome to create a unison move!"
Suddenly, Takuya froze, his mind drawing out a picture from the very depths of his mind.
A boy, probably no older than ten standing over him. His hair was a chocolate brown, but so wild and thick if you stood in front of him he blocked a part the sun. Something shined in the hair, hidden by the shadow that covered the boys face as well.
"You were awesome Tai! That was a really cool soccer move! Hey, maybe you could teach it to me? We could use it together!" He heard his younger self say.
The older boy chuckled, ruffling Takuya's hair in a manner similar to what he has just done to Tommy.
"Maybe. It would be awesome to have a Unison Attack, Eh, Takuya?"
Takuya stumbled forward, his mind reeling at the sudden headache and memory. Tai? Who was Tai? Takuya wondered, holding his head in pain as the others watched in confusion and horror.
"...akuya? Takuya!" Kouichi said, finally realizing that the twin was shaking him. He turned, seeing the worried looks on his friends faces. "You okay Takuya? You kinda spazzed out there." He said softly.
The brunette regained his footing, stumbling for a second before giving everyone a bright smile. "Sorry guys, just a sudden head rush. I should be fine. C'mon, lets go eat!" He said cheerfully, dragging Tommy along with him who seemed to accept that his older brother figure was okay.
No need to worry them. Im fine as long as they don't keep happening. Takuya thought, letting Tommy go and follow him at his own pace, which was almost the same as his.
Behind them, the remaining four watched him run forward continuing at a slower pace. "Whatever that was...it was definitely not a head rush." Koji said, getting nods from the other three in agreement. Stuffing his hands in his coat pockets before picking up the pace, wanting to get there before Takuya ate all the good food.
Meanwhile, in an alternate version of Shinjunku, a group, formerly created to stop digital monsters from entering the human world and causing havoc, a large building which held HYPNOS was running around quite frantically.
The group, which had repurposed itself to studying and observing the now sealed off digital world, had been suddenly thrown into a frantic state, alarms blazing and scientists rushing to their computers when something that clearly should have not been possible just happened.
"Onodera! I need a report, what exactly just happened!?" The long time leader of HYPNOS, Mitsuo Yamaki, growled out while he flicked his lighter at a more frantic pace.
Whatever this is, it shouldn't be happening, Yamaki thought. We made those kids give ip their digimon, the world was quiet for the longest time, and now..
"S-sir!" Onodera stuttered, moving the strange chair parallel to Riley's up and down to examine the screen. "The digital world suddenly burst to life in activity..thats not all." She said, typing a few more things. "A layer of the digital world just vanished!"
This surprised Yamaki enough to drop his lighter, not paying the slightest attention to it.
From what the monster makers had explained, their original digital world and digimon design had evolved over the years, slowly layering itself in different areas, forms and layers. It was constantly changing and evolving, like the internet itself.
So, for an entire plane of existence in the digital world to just vanish without a trace.. It just wasn't possible.
"Find out how this happened and why. Riley, call the monster makers to get down here, they are going to want to see this, and we will weed their help." Yamaki boomed, snapping from his stupor and trying to hold on to a semblance of control.
Suddenly the screen beeped again, flashing several lines of what looked like binary code.
"Sir! This line of data was just sent from the digital world! Activating decoders now..." Riley said, punching away at her board while her mind was working a million miles and minute.
The code slowly formed into letters, forming a whole sentence before Yamaki took a step back and growled. "Damn it...Call the tamers, they're going to need to see this." He frowned, turning and walking out to his office to make the call.
For the message was only three words.
HELP US TAKATOMON
Oh yay I finished this JUST before finals week. Three updates in a year, I must be getting better at this.
Next time on Digimon:Digital Connections
"Gogglehead,I know your worried, but just relax for a minute okay?"
"Something happened to Seraphimons Castle!"
"Tai, are you sure there was a devidramon attacking new Digidestined? Because after Davis and his group, we decided if another conflict arose, there would be no new chosen children."
