"It's wrong, Albus, you and I both know that." James yelled, slamming his fist down on the headmaster's desk.

"It well may be, but I alone can not over rule this injustice. It needs to go before the Wizengemnot. Cornelius must be on board," the headmaster reasoned. "You say you have an appointment with him tomorrow morning?" he looked to Remus who merely nodded his head.

"I have no pressing matters here to attend to in the morning. Meet me at the Ministry at 9. I have a few things I would like to discuss with the Minister myself," Albus continued. He turned to James who was pacing the office, "That's all for tonight, boys."

James slung his feet over the side of the bed to where his slippers lay on the floor. He hadn't slept all night, instead he had lain there holding Lily, brushing his fingers through her hair as she snoozed quietly on the brisk fall night. A few times Lily had woken up to try to convince him to either try to fall asleep or let her stay awake with him but he turned down both of her offers insisting that she needed to worry about herself and that he would be find. When she was finally awake for good this morning, she slipped out of the room after kissing him deeply first, informing his that she was just going to make them breakfast for what was promising to be a big day.

He quickly changed and rushed to the bathroom to shave, forgetting completely that he could have just charmed his growing stubble until he ran into Remus as he was walking out of the door.

"I never thought I'd see the day where you would resort to muggle tactics to achieve your perfect complexion, Prongs." Remus chuckled as he began down the stairs, both hands in his pant's pockets. "But then again I never thought you would be working a desk job."

"Picking two battles eh there Moony?" James chuckled along. "Besides, the muggle way of life took over these past 9 and a half years." He rubbed his hand along the side of his face. "But I really should get back to my shaving charms— nothing not even the best razor can make the skin feel so smooth."

"Always about the appearances," Remus teased, eye's rolling. "Say, did you ever find something in the muggle world to tame that unruly hair of yours?"

"Nothing can tame it," James said proudly.

"That's not true, Remus," Lily chimed in, "He, after all these years, is still afraid of the muggle stores."

"Am not," James whined, taking his place at the breakfast table."They have all these machines and such everywhere. It's intimidating!" He dramatically shivered for effect.

"It's nothing to be ashamed of, darling," Lily said sweetly, flipping the pancakes before settling them down on the plates. "You'll overcome your fears someday," she added, placing a kiss on his head before handing Remus his plate and a copy of the Daily Prophet.

James eyed the paper curiously, "You've been busy this morning, love."

"Not really," she grinned, taking a sip of tea. "You're leaving this morning, aren't you?"

"We have some business to take care of," Remus said between bites. "I don't know how much your husband here has told you about our plan but you are more than welcome to come along— Merlin only knows we need a brain to this operation."

"Well seeing as I don't have work and my son is away at school… I'd love to come," she said, smiling. "Just let me get changed for the ministry. Can you clean up for me?"

James nodded, his mouth full with breakfast. But swallowed quickly remembering he had to tell her something more.

"Lils?" he yelled, hoping she could hear him up the stairs. The sound of footsteps pausing and turning around signaled that she had and she appeared down the hall in the front hall two seconds later.

"Yes?"

"We're taking the bus to just outside the ministry," he informed her.

"Muggle clothing it is then," her face lighting up like she just got an idea sending her bolting up the stairs.

"And she thinks I'm appearance obsessed," James mockingly gawfed before returning to his food nonchalantly. His actions sent Remus into a fit of laughing which ended up turning into a choking fit before finally settling back down.

In a short while, Lily was locking the front door to 34 Trevor Square, and the three friends were walking towards Knightsbridge Road. James led them down a short way to the bus stop that would take them a block away from the Ministry's visitor entrance.

The bus pulled up not long after they got to the stop.

"Let's go," Remus said, running his hands together in anticipation. They filed on, but James, who had taken the lead stopped abruptly just a few steps on. Lily bumped into his back, having had her eyes on the floor as she climbed on the back of the bus, and Remus soon followed suit.

"Why'd you stop?"

Remus, who was quite a few inches taller than Lily, and therefore could see easily over James, spotted the person that had stopped his best friend in his tracks, causing his jaw to drop to the floor. Sitting down on one of the first floor bus seats was none other than their Hogwarts headmaster decked out in the most muggle attire he probably had in his closet.

"Pr-professor?" James sputtered.

"Sir, you're holding up the line, please take a seat," The bus driver said, trying to keep his patience in tack.

"Yes, right," James said, grabbing Lily's wrist and taking her to a seat across from a be speckled wizard, Remus taking a seat next to Dumbledore.

"Albus, you said you'd meet us there. What are you doing on a London City bus?" James questioned in a hushed tone.

"I've always wanted to ride one of these but never had an opportunity. I thought this was a rather fit time to try," Dumbledore responded, eyes twinkling. "Now how do you know where to get off?" His eyes roamed the bus for one sort of indication.

Lily responded first, pointing at the lit up sign at the front of the bus, an amused expression spread across her face. "That sign will tell you what road, or landmark the bus is going to next. When is flashes, 'Charing Cross', that's when we'll get off and walk the rest of the way."

"Fascinating, simply fascinating these muggles," Dumbledore said in awe.

The three friends sat there, observing the Headmaster's first bus ride, almost not wanting it to end.

They exited quickly when their stop came, and winded their way through the crowds of tourists surrounding the streets around the British Ministry buildings. Lily was the first to reach the telephone box that doubled as the Ministry's visitor entrance, shuffling the men into the tight fit box.

"Ok, now whoever is closest to the phone, dial the pin," James said, his face plastered against the window.

Remus pressed the numbers quickly and grabbed the visitors passes that were printed soon after. "Why did we not think to just go down in twos?" he muttered, the obvious thought finally coming to his head.

Lily and James both knocked their heads against the wall in response— Dumbledore just chuckling at the younger wizards antics.

"Ah, here we are," he said, suddenly pushing open the door causing them all the tumble out and lose their footing slightly.

"Haven't been here in a long time," Lily said, breathless. "It's changed so much in 9 years."

All around them, what used to be grey stone walls back in the days of the first wizarding war, stood black shiny tiled walls. A dominant red paint outlined the office windows of the various Ministry Departments. They stood tall like the skyscrapers of London at the far end from where they were. Wizards and witches bustled all around them, heads down no doubt over the latest edition of the prophet.

The four of them walked towards the visitor check-in desk, where Dumbledore informed the security wizards of their purpose there today. After receiving their wands back, they practically ran to catch one of the golden lifts that would deliver them to the floor where Fudge's office could be found.

"So what's the actual plan?" Lily questioned the boys while they whizzed their way throughout the ministry.

Dumbledore too, looked at both Remus and James, who were sharing a look of concern.

James scratched the back of his head, "Uh well, um…"

"Please tell me we came here with a plan, James," Lily said, exasperated.

"We know the facts, and what they can and can not do in this situation," Remus began. "We know that they have to give Sirius a trial and that he should be able to get off all charges if they agree to put him under veritiserum. This is where you come in Albus. Like we expressed the other night, you have an influence over Fudge and you know what will get him to agree— do that and we can basically cover the rest."

Lily pondered this over in her head, but her eyes shot up quickly to look at James before the spun and turned to Dumbledore. "Does Fudge uh, know about us?" she said, the facts about their own lives running through her head. Fudge wasn't minister, he might not know.

"He was to be informed by his predecessor, Minister Bagnold. I though did bring up your situation upon meeting him in the first few months of him gaining office. He should be well informed," Dumbledore concluded. "If not though, what a better way to start a day then by welcoming back two young faces into the wizarding world. Now come, his office is this way," he said, eyes staring at them, shining over the brim of his glasses before he led them out of the lift.

"Professor Dumbledore, sir, good to see you," the receptionist outside of Fudge's office stumbled when the four of them approached. "The-the minister is uh, uh waiting for you, please," she continued stepping aside after she opened the door.

"Dumbledore, Dumbledore, Dumbledore, how good it is to see you," Fudge said, stepping around his desk in an effort to shake the Professor's hand. "I must say I was surprised to hear you required a meeting with me. Please sit, sit. Refreshment's at all? My assistant can get you anything you liked. Lovely witch she is— just started last month. An ex student of yours I presume— she seemed to know you rather well," the minister babbled on, failing to notice the three other's in the room.

"Most of those in the Ministry have passed through Hogwarts Halls at one point or another. Minister, if you please, the matters we came here to discuss." Dumbledore said calmly, trying to settle the anxious man down.

"W-we?" he stuttered, finally glancing up at the Lily, James, and Remus. "Why… oh, oh! Welcome back," Fudge said, eagerly shaking all their hands." He gestured them towards a couch that sat against the wall nearest his desk.

"I'm sure you recall the extenuating circumstances that kept them from living here in the magical world with us for many years now," Dumbledore said, trying to inch closer to the main discussion to be had.

"Yes, yes, naturally of course. Not a person in our world doesn't know your story, James and Lily." Fudge said, his face lit up in delight. "Young Harry, how is he? Still alive?" Fudge chuckled.

Lily and James laughed a little with him as to not make the situation awkward. "He is well, thank you," James said. "Off at Hogwarts now."

"Very good. Always exciting times," Fudge said, a false smile spread across his face. His smile wavered as he turned to Dumbledore though, "I assume these three have to do with the matters you came to discuss, Albus."

Dumbledore nodded before directing the conversation to James and Remus. James caught his look, and cleared his throat to begin.

"Minister Fudge, it had uh come to Lily's and my attention that while all the chaos was ensuing around the time of the attack a man was falsely accused of some, er, rather grave charges," James began, looking to Remus to try to get him to take over.

"Sirius Black, sir, was not James and Lily's secret keeper— Peter Pettigrew was," Remus continued.

"Preposterous," Fudge said, outraged.

"I assure you this is the truth, Minister," Dumbledore said. "I too believed that young Mr. Black was the cause of the chaos, that led to what most of us presumed to be Lily and James' deaths all those years ago but I admit that I was wrong— we all were."

"Minister, Sirius may have been a Black through family but that's not who he was inside. Everyone at Hogwarts, including us could attest to that fact. He wasn't a death eater," James said confidently. "You can see my memories of the Fidelius Charm when we first enacted it…"

"Mine too," Lily chimed in.

"And they wouldn't object to going under veritiserum either," Remus helpfully suggested.

"Cornelius, Minister Bagnold made a mistake that would not be kindly accepted by the public if they knew that Sirius Black was sent away without a trial— no proof besides what was it, a severed finger of Pettigrew's that it all happened?" James, Lily, and Remus nodded in response. "You have the power to release an innocent man here, Cornelius."

They all watched as Fudge processed all this information, his head switching from nodding to shaking back in forth— an internal dispute no doubt happening inside his head.

"What were his exact charges?" Fudge asked quietly, his head still held up by his hands.

Remus quickly scrounged his jacket for the folded papers that held all their information on them. He spread them out on the small coffee table in front of him and began searching them for the very words that got one of his best mates sent away for life.

"Here, here," he exclaimed, grabbing the piece of paper and bringing it eagerly over to Fudge, who had just propped his own spectacles up onto his nose. "He was charged for outing James, Lily and Harry to Voldemort; murdering Peter Pettigrew," James cringed. "and murdering twelve muggles."

"Yes, yes, I remember now. Alright, give me a moment," Fudge said, slipping out of his office leaving the four of them a little stunned.

"Does this?" James started.

"Does he?" Remus said.

"Maybe he actually…" Lily stuttered.

They all looked at one another, hope gleaming in their eyes.

Fudge came back at that moment.

"My assistant has sent for Black to be retrieved. Dumbledore, I require you as Chief Warlock to call for the Wizengamot to assemble in the lower court rooms in 20 minutes precisely," Fudge began before turning to James and Remus. "As crazy as it seems, I believe that there is an opportunity to right a wrong, and if what you say is true your friend should be free by the end of the morning. If not, he will at least be given a proper trial and we at the ministry can say we followed procedure with his case. In my opinion we can't lose, can we?"

James and Remus nodded in agreement.

Fudge clapped his hands together. "Perfect, yes. Now you three," he said, pointing at Lily, James, and Remus, "are not technically, by law, allowed to sit in the court room during this prosecution. But since this is a rare case, and I believe that you will without a doubt have something to say, or add to his testimony, are allowed to sit for the session. Good?"

"Yes, thank you, Minister," Lily said, while she hugged James in excitement.

He hugged her back, placing a kiss on her head before grabbing her arms and saying, "we got him a trial Lils! We did it!". He kissed her and spun her around before setting her back down and giving Remus and congratulatory hug.

James and Remus both went to shake Dumbledore's hand.

"We will never be able to thank you enough, Professor," James said.

"Thanks are not needed. I'm just glad to be able to hopefully right a mistake that I too made all those years ago," Dumbledore responded.

They stood there fore a moment, smiling at their accomplishment thus far.

"Let's get down to the courtrooms then shall we?" Dumbledore said, motioning to the door that Fudge has recently just re-entered. "See you down there soon, Cornelius," Dumbledore said, addressing the Minister politely, before closing the door behind the group.

Lily, James and Remus had already started to make their way down the corridor to the lifts.

"Wait, where's Dumbledore?" Lily said suddenly, looking around the hall.

"Uh— there he is.. I think," Remus said, nodding towards a figure. now decked out in black robes with gold trim and a medallion hanging around his neck with the letters, 'C.W.' engraved into it.

"Professor, you look…" Lily began, stumbling for words.

"Ah yes, these robes. I'm rather fond of them myself. One of the better perks of being Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot. Now let's not be late for young Mr. Black's arrival."

The four of them quickly hopped onto the next lift and whizzed towards the lower court rooms, reaching them just as two dementors were leading Sirius past them.

"S-Sirius?" James said.

Their old friend appeared almost as just a shadow of himself. His face was sunken around the eyes, no doubt from the countless number of sleepless nights and lack of nutrients that the Prison would provide.

Sirius turned towards them, a flash of recognition and joy appearing in his dark eyes, but the moment was short lived as his guards continued dragging him towards the court room.

They followed him in stride, trying to stay a good measure back from the dementors, but close enough so Sirius would know that they were with him. Lily, James and Remus went down a hallway to the left when they reached the area surrounding the courtroom, while Dumbledore parted to the right to where the rest of the Wizengamot would file in when the proceedings began.

They found their seats to the left of the accused's bench, and sat there silently— waiting for it all to begin.

Lily, James and Remus stood up accordingly as the Wizengamot filed in and took their places around the courtroom. Dumbledore came in last and stood for a while, personally acknowledging all those in the room before he banged his gavel and took his place in the box reserved for the Chief Warlock.

"I have gathered the Wizengamot today to right a wrong in accordance to the charges placed against Sirius Black," Dumbledore began.

An uproar was prompted by his message amongst the Wizengamot, but Dumbledore halted it by continuing with his message.

"I would like to bring forward James Potter."

James got up slowly and made his way over to the witness box. He sat down and quickly drank the vile of veritiserum that he was handed. James rapidly answered the questions that Dumbledore and a few of the other choice members of the Wizengamot asked before he took the antidote and sat back down.

Lily, shortly after, endured the same procedure, with Remus merely attesting that they are who they indeed say they are for the few who were taken aback by the Potter's existence.

"Now that we have sufficient evidence to take away the charge against Mr. Sirius Black regarding the betrayal of one Lily and James Potter after they underwent the Fidelius Charm all those years ago, I would like to bring into this court room the defendant, Sirius Black," Dumbledore announced, signaling to the Dementors to bring Sirius forward to the defendant's box.

"Mr. Black do you agree to undergo questioning regarding your accused murder of one Mr. Peter Pettigrew and 12 muggles, on November 1st, 1981?" Dumbledore asked.

"Y-yes," Sirius responded, his eyes not leaving Dumbledore's face.

Dumbledore motioned for the veritiserum to come forward, which Sirius automatically drank. His eyes rolling back into his head before coming back into focus.

"In the early morning of November the first, 1981, did you Sirius Black track down Peter Pettigrew?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"He betrayed James, Lily and Harry. I-I thought he caused their deaths. I wanted revenge."

"So were you or were you not the Potter's Secret Keeper?"

"No, I wasn't. I told them that I was the obvious choice and that they should choose Peter— no one would have guessed Peter. Not then anyways."

"When you found Peter you were where?"

"I'm not entirely sure of where it was. There were muggles. He wanted there to be muggles."

"What happened when Peter realized he had been found?"

"He started yelling. Everyone started starring at us, looking at me with faces of disgust. He screamed 'How dare you betray Lily and James!', loud enough for all to hear."

"And then what?"

"It's a blur."

"What happened next, Mr. Black?"

"He pulled out his wand and flicked it— did something behind his back. It caused an explosion. That's how the muggles died."

"What happened to Peter?"

"He cut off his finger and transformed."

"Transformed?"

Remus and James looked between each other— knowing what was coming next.

"He's an unregistered animagus. He transformed and scurried away."

The court room erupted yet again at this relevation, but quieted down quickly when Fudge took over the questioning.

"You say he's unregistered," Fudge continued for Dumbledore. "How can we be sure?"

"Because I am one too. I can supply memories if you need."

"And how did this happen?"

"James, Peter, and I were best friends with werewolf Remus Lupin at Hogwarts, and after. We learned what he was and didn't want him to be alone during his hardest time. We taught ourselves, and after a few years we finally accomplished our goal. I am a black dog, James Potter is a stag, and Peter Pettigrew is a garden rat."

"Hand him the antidote." Dumbledore said.

Sirius gulped it down, and came back to the courtroom, more alive than before.

"Now we vote. Those in favor of convicting Sirius for the charges against the murder of Peter Pettigrew and Twelve muggles on the morning of November the first, 1981," he looked around and saw no hands raised. "Those in favor of freeing the accused of all charges?" They all raised their hands, and the twinkle came back to Dumbledore's eyes.

Thank-you so much for reading. I'd like to note that all recognizable J.K. Rowling content his fully hers and I take no credit for it. Please, if you have time review- good or bad, I like to know what you think and what I can improve on. I want these characters to be realistic for what they have been through and the lives they have led up until this point. Anyways, thanks again for reading, and I hope to update soon, now that I have some more plans for this story stirring around in my head! :)
