Chapter 18: Good Morning, Sunshine
The next morning Pedro wakes up with a bad headache and a nauseous feeling, neither of which are helped any by Adriana's snoring next to him. He gives a small glare at her and gets out of the bed and waddles to the bathroom where he starts throwing up. Adriana wakes up not too long after him and looks towards the bathroom with a smirk. "Hungover much, honey?" She asks. She thinks a little about last night as she hears Pedro in the bathroom. "Exactly how much did you drink last night, anyhow?" She asks, curiously.
Pedro flushes the toilet and washes his face before he waddles back into the bedroom, rubbing his temples some. "Can you ask your preguntas* a little quieter? Por favor?"
Adriana shrugs. "How many drinks did you have, Pedrrrrro?" She asks, no quieter.
"Maybe five?" Pedro says and shrugs a bit. "I don't really remember…" He yawns and looks at her. His eyes widen a bit as he kind of remembers, though, what they did last night. "...D-did-did we really…?"
"Yup." Adriana says with a shrug. "Anyway, who's that?" She asks and points towards the picture on the wall. She is mostly trying to change the subject, actually.
Pedro is glad for the change of topic and looks towards the picture. "Who?"
"That girl." She says and looks at Pedro. "I saw that you had a picture of her in your wallet, too…"
"Oh, her." Pedro says and shakes his head. "That's mi hermana mayor*, Guadalupe." He smiles. "And, of course, you have met my older twin, Diego, and those other two are mi padres*."
Adriana nods and looks at the picture before looking at Pedro again. "So, she's not your girlfriend?"
"Correct." Pedro nods and sits back down on the bed.
"And you're the youngest of your familia*?" She asks.
"Yes, and what about you?" He asks, not wanting to feel like Adriana is interrogating him as it feels very awkward and wrong for a criminal to be interrogating him.
Adriana is silent for a moment. "I'm an only child." She says with a shrug. She really prefers to not think about her childhood. Pedro looks at her curiously and nods some. "And who's that?" She asks, changing the topic again and pointing at a picture of Pedro and the much larger, king penguin.
Pedro looks at the picture. "That is Bobby." He says. "We've had several missions together." He grins. "Most were much more fun than they probably should have been." He says with a small laugh.
"How so?" Adriana asks, not really caring, but she is really bored. She also wants to go back to sleep and figures that if she can keep Pedro talking, he will bore her back to sleep. She lays back on the pillows and pretends to be listening as he talks on and on about some mission in Jamaica last year. "Cool…" She yawns.
"Are you even listening?" Pedro asks, looking at her as he takes a painkiller for his headache. He noticed how Adriana had called his painful tail injury 'cool' and thinks that she must have really not have been listening to him at all. Adriana answers with a small snore and Pedro rolls his eyes. "Rude." He murmurs, shaking his head. He then gets up and heads to the kitchen and fixes himself some coffee and cereal. After breakfast, Pedro goes back to the bedroom and looks at Adriana. "I need my wallet." He says, sitting back down on the bed.
Adriana half opens an eye and looks at him. She then lazily gets it from behind her and tosses it at him. "Now, if you'll let me, I'd like to go back to sleep." She yawns.
"No problema there, Adriana. I have to go to the base anyway for training." He says as he puts his wallet away and gets his gun and holster. "Adios."
"Yeah, yeah, adios and whatever…" She yawns and turns over, waving her flipper some annoyedly.
Pedro slides out from the house. As he does this, he thinks about a lot of things. There now was a wanted criminal hiding out in his house. He has done /things/ with this criminal that he is sure that others, his friend Bob for example, would call rash and regrettable.. Pedro sighs some as he thinks about how he has lied a few times now to his best friend. It is just...He doesn't think Bob would understand.
He is afraid.
He is afraid about how Bob would react if he found out that he has fallen in love with a criminal and now is living with her, too. Pedro is worried that Bob might tell on him to the base, or force him to turn her in...Or maybe even renounce their friendship. He just isn't sure how Bob would react and so he keeps lying to him. Now, he feels even more nervous. Could he keep up with his story that he has been telling Bob? Will Bob somehow still find out and then hate him for lying to him? Should he just go ahead and risk everything and tell him the truth now, today and possibly conserve whatever threads would still be left of their friendship? Pedro starts to slide slower as he thinks about all of this. He even starts thinking about turning around and going back home, maybe call in sick, instead of continuing towards the base. He isn't sure that he can face Bob today, not after all of the lying he has been doing. Not after lying to his face like he has.
Adriana sleeps for about thirty more minutes before her phone starts ringing. She looks at it and contemplates not answering it. She knows it would not be Pedro, since he both doesn't know that she has a phone with her, or her number. She knows it could only be one penguin.
Dr. Jabez Stanton.
Against her better judgement, she answers the phone. "Adriana." She says lazily. "What do you want?"
"Good morning to you, too, Sunshine." Dr. Stanton says, slightly sarcastically. Adriana rolls her eyes as she listens. "So, have you made your decision yet?"
"I made my decision the moment you first asked me. NO. I do NOT want to be part of your gang! I work ALONE." She growls, sitting up angrily. She is frustrated that this irritating, evil doctor won't leave her the kipper alone.
"...I was meaning your other decision, Sunshine…" Stanton then says with a grin in his voice. "It's not too late to reconcile and come back to me. Luisa never has to know. Or, I could kill her, if that makes you want me any more." He purrs.
"Yeaeeeeaaaaah-no. Sorry, I just really don't want to...Plus, it's not Luisa that bothers me." Adriana says, rolling her eyes. "It's your brat."
"My brat? What brat?" Stanton says confused.
"That demon that you had with Luisa." She says, rolling her eyes again. "I hate kids. I don't want kids." She growls.
Stanton is silent for a moment. "Henry wouldn't affect you any." He then says, quieter with a shrug. "He's in-training to take over the gang when he's old enough."
Adriana shakes her head. "But, you miss the point, Jabez. He's a little chick. I would rather kill him than deal with him. Now, STOP calling me and leave me ALONE." She growls and then hangs up. She frustratedly lays her face down on the pillow. She knows that he will just try again some other day, which irritates her even more. 'Can't he just take a hint?...Maybe take a hike off a cliff and die, too, while he's at it?!' She thinks and groans.
She then gets out of the bed and waddles to the kitchen. "Now what the kipper is there here for breakfast? Nada but cereal! I don't want cereal." Adriana waddles then towards the door with the cash she had stolen from Pedro's wallet and lays her cloak on a chair near the door. She figures it may draw too much attention, since La Sombra is said to wear it all the time, and that it may be best to pretend to not be 'him'...To instead pretend to be 'herself'.
Pedro waddles into the base with a silent sigh. He wonders what he could say to convince Bob that everything is okay and that he doesn't need to get the name and number of some chick here at the base. He passes the locker room and slides to the combat training area, probably the one place he would guess that Bob would not be. But, Pedro had guessed wrong and finds Bob over at the mat practicing. Before Pedro can retreat and go to maybe a gun training or camouflage training room, Bob notices him and waves for him to come over with a smile as he also waddles towards Pedro. Pedro somewhat reluctantly nods with a forced smile and slides over.
"Hey, Ro, I wasn't really expecting you here until later." Bob says with a smile. "Figured you'd have a pretty nasty hangover." He says.
Pedro nods. "I did...But, I couldn't just stay home…Too irritating." He says with a small laugh, thinking some of Adriana.
Bob looks curiously at him, not seeing how staying home could be irritating, but shrugs some. "Okay." He says. "So...Interested in meeting that chick I talked about last night? Or do you even remember that?" He asks with a small laugh, too.
"Nah." Pedro replies with a small smile, shaking his head. "I think I should maybe spend a little time out of the dating game, you know...Just to get myself emotionally put back together." He says with a shrug.
"Sure, sure." Bob replies with a nod and then clasps his friend on the shoulder. "You'll get over her in no time, I'm sure." He says with a smile.
Pedro nods some with a return smile. 'I highly doubt that, Bobby...Seeing as how she's living in my house now apparently...' He thinks. "Yeah, probably." He says, though. He feels even guiltier about how much he has been lying to his friend. "So...Training?" He then suggests with a small wave of his flipper towards the mat.
Bob shrugs. "Sure." He says with a smile. Pedro nods back and they head back over to the mat.
